Nice one cb4! Those are great, as I wasn't sure weather there way any pattern design on the back of the stern but I can see there is now. The link is interesting as it seems the miniture of this ship still exists and there are a few shots. I figured the ship design was a bit older then the ones most people build on here. I'll give those earlier ships a look, as I maybe able to find a good pic to help with the shape and design. Thanks DC

Hey there, as well as the pirate village Im currently working on, Im also getting ready to start a large dio based on the Goonies. It was one of my favourite films as a kid and the pirate ship at the end has allways been the classic pirate ship look for me. Ive always wanted to build the final scene of the ship trapped in the cave, as its such a great iconic scene from my childhood. Ive decided that im going to build the ship first as I will know what size the cave needs to be from it. Here's the problem, I can't seem to find any pictures pictures of the ship apart from a few from the film. I found out that it was a real full size ship that they built for the film that could sail. After filming they offered the ship for free to anyone who wanted it, but know one did and it was scraped. A shame, if it was today then there would have been lots of takers for it, but back then no. Seeing as this is a classic piraty type movie I was wondering if anyone on here knows any sites with pictures of the ship set or shots of the construction? Any info would be really helpful as I want to make the ship as close as possible and I ve only found these side views: Any other pics or info on the ship would be really helpful, or if you know what type of ship its based on as im not good when it comes to ships. I'd like to make this model as good as possible, thanks. DC

This is a great little moc! Its nice someone brought up this particular pagen god, as one point he was worshiped as the soldier god. Many warriors would worship mithras as they believed he gave them strength in battle. Ive heard that he was associated with the bull and their ceromonies usually involved killing a bull when a new person was admitted and so they would drain the blood and the new member would have to drink it. Also there was a code between warriors that if they were to kill another mithrasist in battle then they would have to honor them in death and make sure they have their sword in hand when they died, so they would be able to cross the bridge of swords and forever feast in thes of the otherworld. Anyway, im no historian. Great moc and topic!

Jolly Rodger? I thought Blackbeard's flag was a devil with an hourglass and hearts. It was ment to symbolize that you time is running out and soon the devil will have your soul, or something like that. -
Thats another nice moc from you. You have had some great entries for the JRC so far, I assume you are going for the Master Builder. Its nice to see that the window technique works well on a small window, as I tryed something similar on a larger scale a while back but couldn't get it to work, but it looks great here. Nice fort and cannons! Good luck in the JRC

Now that would be cool! I'd deffinitly prefer a large Port Royal or Tortuga set as there would be so many more useful pieces for moccing. I hope thats what they do. Well it doesn't really matter weather the Pearl is highly detailed or not, this is Lego we're talking about, so you will always be able to mod it and add whatever details you want. If not, then you can always build your own which is the best way. Either way, a cheap Pearl or Expensive one, it doesn't really matter as you can rebuild it how you want. Just hope it comes with black hull pieces! -
To be honest I've never been bothered about receiving credit. People can take and use whatever ideas from me as they want and I really don't mind if they don't credit me. After all, Im just a guy who has built something with small plastic bricks, not someone who has created a brilliant money making idea. You cant patent Lego techniques. I think every technique has been done by everyone at some point and 90% of techniques are not rocket science to figure out. I think it comes more down to style. If people copy all the techniques you regularly use then their mocs will look like yours, in which case they end up losing out because they have not got their own style. A lot of the great builders all have their own recognizable style. When you only need to look at a pic and instantly recognize who made it, that is what people should be more bothered about! That's what makes you stand out. If someone copies your style then everyone else will instantly see that they have copied you. I think that kind of makes sense. Basically, people can get ideas and techniques from me and Im totally fine about it even if they don't credit me, but, when people start telling them their moc looks like my work, then they have a problem cause it means they don't have no style of their own!

The Black Pearl had its story in the first film. They can't keep bringing up the same old story of a pirate who wants to get his ship back. And considering the mess that was the 'plot'of the 3rd film, I wouldn't put anything past the writers. -

Yes, but remember that the third film ended with Barbossa sailing off with the Pearl. In the new film he is a Privateer with the Brits, so maybe the Pearl is just docked in England somewhere. Maybe the producers wanted something new and decided they didnt need it in the film. As ships go, the BP is a bit boring compared to the Dutchmen etc. I'd rather see lots of cool new ships then the same old Pearl. And it isn't even Jack's ship, if you look into the backstory you will find that it was granted to Jack by Beckett, for some job Beckett wanted him to do. Jack betrayed him of course, and thats why Beckett says they have each left a mark on one another. Something like that anyway. -
Im glad im not the only one who used to confuse dark bley and black! As for building ritual, it goes as follows. Sort bags out into numbered groups. Empty each set of numbered bags into a box. Grab some chocolate out the fridge(at the moment Cadbury's mini eggs are my building snack of choice). Turn on stereo and put on a Megadeth or Metallica play list. Quickly turn to the end of instructions to see how many pages it has. Build set. Admire it for half hour. Take it apart and put all pieces away in their specific boxes. Then sit and wish I had another new set to build. There is just something awesome about opening and building a brand new set. Building it again afterwards is never the same.

How does the POTC theme fit into your world?
Derfel Cadarn replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well the sets won't fit in as I usually build a set then take it straight apart and build my own stuff. But the figures are really cool and Ive been waiting for them so I can finally build some large detailed POTC mocs. I will deffinitly get all the sets, maybe doubles of any that have very good parts, but probably cheaper to get the special parts off Bricklink, as I dont want to be spending a load of cash on a set just so I can get an extra bucket! Its really all about those minifigs! -

Yeah that would be great, but just not gonna happen. Besides, if you buy enough pieces you can easily make a huge detailed Black Pearl that would be better than any ship Lego releases. Just look at the ships that members build on here. Your own creations will always be the best as you can put as much money and time into them as you wish, where as the Lego company has limits, it can't really put out a 400 pound plus set. -

Maybe, but im pretty sure someone mentioned that it has a smaller piece count then the QAR. -

Whenever Lego has had 2 ships out, one of them has always been smaller and less expensive. I cant see them releasing 2 expensive ships in the same year, so I fear The Black Pearl wont be half as nice as the QAR. I could be wrong, but I expect it will be smaller and cheaper like Brickbeards bounty. Its a shame as the BP is one of the most iconic ships from the francise and deserves a large detailed model. However, if the line is successful, whos to say that they dont release a larger update in a later wave. Harry Potter virtually got a new version of hogwarts with every wave! -

Whos to say that the bit of fleshie showing on some of the torsos isnt just a flesie coloured vest that the pirate is wearing underneath? Thats my explanation for when I mix them. -

Oh no, there goes an easy Grand. Good thing I put money aside for this. From a mocing view of things, 3 london escapes, 3 whitecap's, the captains cabin and a couple of Qar's. That should do me, as the mill looks pretty bland and any other cool parts can be bricklinked. Pretty cool line though, so I hope it gets a good few years like the Indy line. -
I don't know, Ive been away from the pirates forum for a year, I come back, and everyone's gone!

Its based on the Sovereign Of The Seas, and there are links in this thread to some pictures but theres not much info to be found on it

This is a splendid entry! Very detailed and well built, even better for the fact that the 1000 piece limit makes things difficult. You have nailed the roof, its such a great shape. I always toy with the idea of that style roof on buildings but always get lazy and go for the easy route, but it really works here. The hogs head above the door is another fine detail that realy stands out. I know the 1000 limit means you have to be a bit sparse at the front, but its still looks realy good. The interior is neatly done and has a warm, quaint and cosy feel. The fireplace with light is a nice touch and the stairs look great. A mighty fine entry, well built and deffinitly worthy of a prize. Good luck in the contest, and keep up the great work! DC

Thanks for the feedback Thanks, yes the water is a bit flat at the moment, but i'm kind of just marking out where it will go. I will add the waves by using jumper plates. I must admit i'm not too keen on tiled water anymore. Thank you for your kind words If my mocs inspire some people then thats really cool, glad I can be of help. I will probably not bother with interiors on this as the techniques used to create the detail on the outside leave the inside looking a mess, which means I would have to build an inner wall to hide them which will make the inside smaller. I am planning a few larger buildings for a future moc which will allow me to do an interior as its something I really wanna try out. Well I'm not too sure if i'm gonna make it that big now, as I don't want to use some of the ideas that I want to use for another moc. Yes, the building is based roughly on that old one, its a little nod to my first port. Thanks all DC

Hey guys, after over a year of castle building I figured its about time I made a few pirate mocs as it is the theme where I started and my fav. These are 2 w.i.p pics of a large moc I have planned. I wanted to do a port, but also a tropical beach setting, so I have decided to combine the two. The part you see here is what will be the beach with the old fishing huts and boathouses. Then I hope to split it up with some rocks and have a stone port with some houses at the other end. Just 2 pics for now, I may update more progress but might just wait till its finished. Anyways, here's the pics.

Well it looks pretty obvious that they designed the Blackbeard fig with Davy jones in mind. Just look at the front-on pic of blackbeard, same hat and the fuses on the beard can easily be tenticals. Imagine that fig in different colours and you have got Davy Jones. I'd put money on that being used as a Davy Jones mould in later sets. -
Achille, a French frigate carrying 36 guns

That really is impressive! Such a great looking ship with so many great details. You really have tried to make this as detailed as possible and added in so much. The fact that it has a really nice interior just adds to the beauty, plus that's one of the best stern/cabins i've seen. Your hard work and time has paid off, this is an awesome moc. Well done, have yourself a beer, you've earned it Lets be honest, this forum has the best fleet on the web! -
Hey guys, I found this ship for sale at a local shop in my village along with some other sets that were copy's of official Lego sets. I looked it up on the net and found this picture of it. What is odd, that this particular shop is a charity shop that never has toys of any sort, but the shop owner says they now get the whole range of this particular make of building blocks on order. As I know the owner quite well, she actually let me build up the display one for their shop window. The whole build was very similar to the BSB, too similar, and I was surprised at how bad the quality was. I knew the quality wouldn't be as good as Lego's, but this was bad E.G warped bricks, very brittle, some faded colours and terrible instructions. It was a shame to hear that these are actually selling quite well at 40 pounds. Just proves that allthough Lego is more expensive, the quality and style is on another level compared to these cheaper imitations. Don't be lured in if you see this set, it doesn't come close to Lego.
