  1. These were not official sets. What he means is that he made his own modular sets that form together to make this. This is a year old though, so you shouldn't really bump it.
  2. Thankyou for your comments. Once I have finished this ship I will start on the next one and I may take a few pictures of the various stages of the build, but there isn't much point of doing a tutorial as CGH has covered all the main points of how this is built in his tutorial. Using his, you can basically build any type of ship you want. The only difference is the shape. My best advice is to find a picture of a Galleon and use that along with CGH tutorial. It's all built on the same technique, just use the first part of the tutorial and change it according to the shape of the galleon in the picture. Take your time on it and always remember to have a good look at every angle when you build, to make sure you get the shape right. There are great rigging and sail making tutorials available right here as well, so you have everything you need. I admit that galleons look more difficult, but once you get started and try some designs you will eventually come up with something that works well. Like I said, I will post some pics from the stages of my next ship, and if there really is enough call for it then I will do a short tutorial, but if you ask CGH or Bonaparte they will tell you that everything is there in his tutorial and you can build mostly any ship from that. Thanks for you comments
  3. Hey mate, wonder if you can help me. You know that part that you use on the top of the masts, it's octaganal but has handles all the way round and you use it to tie rigging to. Do you know what they are called on Bricklink? I've searched but can't seem to find them.

  4. Thankyou, Galleons are my fav too, but they are hardly built here. The most expensive part to buy are the hull pieces, and I advise you opt for the old style stern piece as it's far better for the job then the new one. I used my own pieces to work out how many of different parts I needed to buy, like the tooth plates. I had a load in silver, and used those to work out how many I would need to order in the other colours. That basically how Ive been making it, if you find out the exact number of special parts you need, then you won't end up paying more for a large estimate. The red brown is pretty cheap as it's a common colour, as is white and black. Even the tooth plates were cheap and the dark brown tiles have gone down in price too. It's a case of how detailed you want your ship to be. CGH and Bonaparte used a lot of rarer colours in a checker pattern which looks marvelous but is more expensive. The inside of the ship is done with all the old bricks I never use, which everyone has, so that isn't added in the price, nor is the rigging and sails, so you have to add on extra for those. But basically, 95% of this ship was bought off brinklink and totals about £73 so far, but I still have to order a few more parts for the bow. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Thankyou, your ship has been a great inspiration while building this. Like I said above, if you keep it simple with a lot of the parts, then you'll be surprised how much cheaper it is to build. However, once I've finished this one I plan on building the next as the flagship, which will have four masts and I'd like to do a nice rare colour design, so that will probably be more expensive. Thanks again, I will try and get her complete within the next few weeks.
  5. I finally had my first free weekend since april, so I decided to work some more on this ship. My main aim with this is a ship thats cheap and easy to build, as I plan to build a few of these. My budget was £80, which is cheaper then most official Lego ships availible. Im still under my budget, allthough I have had to make sacrifices. In this case I couldnt choose many fancy colours for checker patterns as it works out more expensive, ive also had to go with red brown as its cheaper as well. The ship itself is quite basic and simple to build, but still has a realistic sort of look. Its not finished yet, as I still have to finish the rigging, make the sails and add the finishing touches to the bow. Hopefully she will be finished soon and ready to set sail. Anyway, here are the current pics: For larger versions of the pics, vistit my flickr.
  6. Very nice! The thing that instantly jumped out at me was the stern with it's round shape, nearly a circle, and I think it looks awesome! The tried and trusted colourscheme of yellow and black always looks good and the whole ship looks very formidable. I agree with others that yellow would look better for the headrails. Excellent work!
  7. Looking good already, your doing a great job with the stern. I do agree with others that the clean grey look is a bit bland. However, that new clourscheme you tested with the tans and trans looks awesome. I know it might mean having to order parts to do it, but it's definitely worth it as the end result will look awesome! Keep it up!
  8. To be fair, the ship isn't too bad considering the piece limit. Like Kris said, try building a better one with same amount of pieces, not easy. Still, for the same price I have just built a ship and I'm working on instructions so I can build a load of them, which suits me fine as I'd rather spend £80 on one of my own sets then this. But this ship really isn't that bad and the BP is a boring ship anyway.
  9. Just a quick question, if I was to build a large town based on a movie, would a certain Deloreon time machine look too out of place, if you get what I'm saying?
  10. Hmmm... No piece limit? I'm sooo tempted to build a town. Still, sounds like a great contest!
  11. Hey mate, regarding the 2012 EB event, ive inquired at work about the time off for those dates, however they are still not sure as that period is a busy time. So i dont want to say anything concrete yet because im not sure, a similar thing happened this year with the windsor event. Looks doubtful at the moment as my work superiors can be difficult, but i shall try!

  12. Sweet build! Great scene to choose and you have done an excellent job at making it instantly recognizable. The interior has some nice details and you have shown that you don't need to use all official figs. One of the beat entry's I've seen! Good luck in the contest
  13. Battle packs were a great idea for castle as it's a great way for building armys, problem here is the figures. While it's great that they have done this, there is really only 2 figures here that ate worth having lots of and that the redcoat and the guy with the tricone. Jack comes in every set and the zombies are regular as well. Shame they didn't use this to incorporate some brand new figures we havn seen yet. Still, I expect I will buy a few, good find.
  14. That would be cool( i play a black V myself) but I would have to earn it of course :) thanks for the info on events and sub forum! It's really nice in UK at the moment and I've been doing a lot of outdoor activities, which is why I havnt built anything. Now I'm at that stage of knowing what I want to build but can't get round to committing to it. The weathers too nice!

  15. This looks wonderful! You have really captured the look and feel here. So many things to like here, and you have pulled them all off excellently. Great use of bricks on many of the details and you've even added a short story! Well done on a great moc, now I really am gonna have to get off my big behind and start building again!
  16. A very nice moc! Lots to like here, the cut away ship is great with lots of detail and action. The tenticals look very effective and it's a shame you didn't have the pieces to make them longer. The mouth of the kraken looks really good and menacing, probably my favorite part of this moc. I'd really like to see more of it, maybe you could build a complete full scale scene after the contest! Great entry and good luck in the contest.
  17. Another great entry in the competition. The bone cage is nicely constructed and looks the right sort of size, but the rock face and background is what really brings it to life and captures the scene well. Great pics and good luck in the contest, this is a great entry!
  18. How come every other country has big Lego conventions and England get none? Ok yeah we get steam, and I will be there this year, but only a few EB members go. Spose I could walk to Oz or run to the USA, but I'm too lazy. So what you working on these days? Oh and I really think you should have a tag of the new Lego minifig V guitar from series 4, I would build a whole gig just to earn it...

  19. That's a very colourful castle you've built. Quite refreshing to see instead of all the Greys, browns and blacks which are the norm. I'm not to sure about the cannons, but that depends what era you are basing thus in. Interesting build, thanks for sharing.
  20. I really liked the Viking theme, I saw the ship in TRU and had to by it. I got all the sets except for the fortress which looked interesting. From what I have read, the fortress was a really good set. Like you say, there isn't much info on the theme and it was short lived.
  21. I don't visit this forum much but this ship really caught my eye. I love the look of it, especially the front. So many neat angles and details. Plus an interesting back story! Very nice work indeed, you've made me want to build a spaceship now!
  22. This looks seriously good! As others have said, the sails look great as all the other details. Nice work on the rigging, I'm currently rigging my two ships and it's a pain! Great pics of the ship with some good old 'tallica in the background! I look forward to seeing her completed.
  23. What picture were you looking at??? Lol, I suppose it's not that bad.
  24. Very nicely done, full of detail with an interesting story. I'm going to do a moc on The Plague as well, however I'm doing the latter epidemic in 17th century London. Great job, i look forward to seeing the rest.
  25. Good job on this! Although the Vikings theme was available in England. I'm from the Uk in the south and all the shops had the sets.
