  1. Its funny how they called it 'The Black Pearl', even though it looks nothing like it and has red and white sails. Just cashing in on the whole POTC craze, naming it the black pearl just so kids think its Jack sparrow's ship. Laughable really.
  2. Seeing these two together really makes me wish we could do a classic pirates event and get as many of these fully custom sailed ships as possible and have them all displayed together, as that would really be a sight. Thanks for showing the pics, both ships are beauties!
  3. Thats a beast! Looks very big and menacing. It a challenge to make a 3 decker on pre-fab hulls, and I think you have done a good job, although I do agree that it would look a lot sleaker with just 2 decks. Some nice details all round and the stern looks very grand and impressive. Nice work
  4. When is the film released, as maybe they arn't allowed to release the sets before the film. But saying that, it would make more sense to release the sets a week before the film so they are already in full swing for when the fever for POTC toys kick in.
  5. Don't get me wrong, I love POTC and do enjoy the films. Im just a bit of a movie critic and like to pick holes Sorry, my bad for going off topic. As for the sets, some people have said they are being released in may, yet Lego store staff are saying mid april. Does this mean the Lego stores will be selling them in April and everywhere else wont get them till may? Anyone know the exact release dates?
  6. I liked this, very enjoyable. The redcoat attacking the monster robot was good. What do you need to make these films, as i'd really like to give one a go. Great vid, thankx for sharing.
  7. Yes, the plot. Well the first movie was pretty decent, the second was ok and the third was a complete mess. That's not just my opinion either, if you look online you will see that the majority of movie goers will agree with that. As far a plots go, those films wouldn't win any awards. If you took Depp and Rush out the first film you would be stuck with the extremely bad acting of Orlando and Kiera which was cringe worthy. Then what was up with that whole Calypso thing? They built it up, only for her to turn into a bunch of crabs then go back into the sea. Big letdown. Still, the films were enjoyable even tho they weren't great and thanks to the them we now have a cool Lego theme.
  8. Im sure the book is pretty good. But don't forget, this is the forth(yawn) movie in a series that is not known for actually having any sort of plot. Its a typical Hollywood movie, so don't expect it to be anything like the book. Very few films that are based on a book are actually anything like the book. The books are always better, with a few rare exceptions...JAWS!
  9. To be honest, the front of that fortress doesnt look to bad, but when you see the back it really shows how awful these sets are. The back is just an ugly mess. Nice to see what other sets there are.
  10. Oh, I missed that thread. Well hopefully it should get a bit more exposure here as ships are a big part of this forum, and this is the best clipper ive seen built. Thanks for the info, I have messaged him, so he knows its here.
  11. 112A Sorry if this has been seen before, but I havn't seen it on here and I thought this was a great moc of this famous ship. Its by Henrik Hoexbroe and its built in 1:50 scale. Check out more details on his flickr page My link
  12. Thanks for the praise, but I won't raise the bar, as these ships need to be easy to build for my upcoming display. So I cant build them to detailed. But, I am gonna start a revolution! A revolution to start getting people building galleons :)

  13. You did read it???

  14. I can't believe how many cool parts some of these sets have. The clothing and headwear on the female figs in the first pic are awesome. If only Lego had released these different figs, as I its annoying that there isn't much variety out there. The figs really do have more of a 16/17th century look on some of them which is really cool. Just think, theres probably hundreds of prototypes for different themes that never made it. Id love to see more of them, expecially the prototypes of the pirate ships.
  15. Thanks both of you for your kind words. Yes the stern width is an argument ive been having with myself. It can be made to slope narrower but 6 studs really doesn't give that much room to play about with when it comes to other details. Like I said, ive built the white walls straight up and I didnt think it would work, but It somehow looks quite nice, and like Perfectionist said, aesthetics are a factor. I think when it comes to 'historically accurate' ships built on the Lego hull pieces are always going fall short, as you lack the size and space to really build the correct details at their best. If I was to build this in minifig scale, I would really be able to get a more historical look. The main aim with this ship is for people to be able to look at it and spot instantly that its an old galleon rather than the norm that we see here. As for the dark red and green tooth plates, I did think about using checkered patterns, but I choose these as it was a different technique that no one had used. I will deffinitly use checkered on her sister ship though, or I could even change the top to darkred and yellow toothplates. Thanks for your great comments, hopefully a few more people will try their hand at these ships, as I'd like to see what solutions others come up with.
  16. Ok, here's an update. Firstly, I renamed her 'Seren' The Princess Ceinwyn (seren means 'the star' and ceinwyn is pronounced kay-win). So, Ive stripped this ship down to the basics as I need a model that I can build lots of very easily and quickly, as this will be one of 10 used for a large moc going on display for a month at Charlestown UK, more details on that as I get them. So Ive now settled on a stern design and its probably not the most accurate, but its the quickest way to build it. The space between the railings at the top of the stern is 8 studs, and it probably should be 6 as I should of sloped the top of the stern. But I havn't, although it still kinda works. I think theres a limit that you can build straight up untill it looks odd, and im up to that limit. The bow needs lots of work and will have a complete makeover so it looks right with the rest of the ship. The masts are not yet in place as they dont go straight up, they have to lean slightly, so ive still got to sort that out. As for rigging, Im lucky enough to have an uncle who builds professional model ships that sell for thousands, so he's going to rig every ship and have his workers create some realistic detailed sails. So thats a bonus as I don't have the patience Well, heres the updated pics, and would it be possible for any kind admin out there to change the tittle of this thread to 'The Princess Ceinwyn' wip, as its not the Golden Hinde, many thanks. Yes the bow needs a big change, im working on it!
  17. Yes I saw this and thought of posting it here. It looks great as its got that historical look but still has a lego cartoony feel as well. Although its not really accurate as a Dauntless replica, its still a nice ship and the fact that it all comes apart in different sections is great and adds a lot of playability. Obscurance should join, ive been scouring different places for a while now and getting people to join and quite a few have signed up so hopefully he'll join. I'd like to see more like this!
  18. Excellent work mate! Ive been meaning to see this and I should have really as it was always plastered all round London. Love the top floor windows and your great flipper roof technique, but its the barricade that is really done so well. It has a great cluttered look to it, full of bits and bobs, very nice.
  19. I wonder if in the credits on the new POTC game it will say 'and thanks to CGH and the Classic Pirate users for the techniques we've used in the game'
  20. I agree, I like the new bow as it doesn't have those pointless holes, but I don't like the fact they use it for the stern as well. It doesn't look right, expecially when the old stern piece was completly fine. If the did do a large special set I would prefer the Dutchman or Dauntless, but I doubt that will happen.
  21. Why is everyone keep talking about a UCS Black Pearl? Is there actually any news for this or is it just wishful thinking. As far as I know Lego have only released StarWas sets under the UCS tittle, so what makes everyone assume that there is going to be a Black Pearl. No other Licence theme apart from Star Wars has had UCS sets.
  22. Nice thought, but no, thats not the set we will get. Firstly, look at the masts, they are white and black 2x1 rounds. Do you really think that Lego would use up a lot of the small piece count in fancy masts? Secondly, that ship has a tiled deck with cannons on the decks and detailed hatches. There is no way Lego could cram all that in a set that has a lower piece count then the QAR, and they gave that an open cabin. Be realistic here, the only way you will get a big detailed Pearl like the one from the game is if Lego release a large adult set.
  23. Well imagine the look on King Henry VIII face when he watched his beloved Mary Rose keel over and sink. Thats what you get when you overload it with too many cannons, what a show off. Anyway, this moc is looking good so far and I really like the colours. Our you thinking about making this out of bricks eventually? Its nice to see another ship like this being built, im hoping more people will start building these older ships as the forum is filled with the same type. I look forward to your next update
  24. Very cool, and deffinitly one of the most infamous scenes of that film. Look forward to seeing the rest of this creation!
  25. I couldn't help but notice that you're building your port on a wooden construction. This is actually a great idea as you can save on a lot of bricks when it comes to making hills and such. But it must be a pain tring to get the height of would the same as as the brick height you need? Might have to try this for a large permanent display in the future.
