Does anyone still have, or know where to find, preliminary images of the 2009 pirates? I'm sure there were more changes than just the torsos and flags and sails.

2015 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion
David Thomsen replied to Rick's topic in LEGO Town
I was a bit disconcerted by the open-back nature of the toy and grocery shop, then I realised that of course you'd be able to fold it and connect the two halves of the building. It would never fit in with my Creator buildings otherwise. And I do approve that the baseplates are the same size as the ones for the toy and grocery shop, with the same colour tiles and everything. They really have started a mini modular city with these, except that with the hinges sticking the sides of the buildings they won't always be able to sit flush. Still, they could be opposite each other and create a road, rather than alongside each other to create a block. I like these Creator shops for my Creator building layout, but I suddenly yearn for a more substantial home building. The last we had was the Family House in 2013, nothing really in 2014. So I hope they have something later in 2015. At least we get the little yellow beach hut. It may be small but it'll fit with my beachside residences. And it appears to have some kind of small cafe or something on one half of the building? -
You're not alone. Well... I wouldn't say I 'like' them yet, I'll wait for the final images to make that call. But I certainly don't hate them, and I see a lot of potential. They make me more excited to see the final sets than I had been just hearing people talk about the preliminary images. Ah, that's why it looked like a knockoff to me, I saw a knockoff of the Volcano Island set once (the set came out when I was in my dark ages so I wasn't familiar with the original set).

Don't forget about the Juniors set! I found it by searching for the German word for 'treasure'. Probably not that noteworthy, really, unless it comes with an exclusive torso like the 2009 equivalent did. But you can't tell by the prelim, of course. It does look like it might come with a large printed brick, though? Like this piece that came with the Princess Castle: But fort themed. Might appeal to some people.

LEGO CREATOR 2015 Rumours & Discussion
David Thomsen replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Prelim images of the two creator buildings, 31035 and 31036. The other creator sets are also there, but I'm only really interested in the buildings - you can find them by searching for the set number on the same page. -
Just realised how odd the Shipwreck Defense set is - the wall appears to be facing out to the sea, and is being attacked by a cannon that is clearly land-based... in the picture they've explained it as the cannon being located on a little outcrop of beach, but without that land for reference it's going to look a bit odd... In any case you'd never be able to move the cannon over sand on wheels like that. So disappointed. It's like 2004 Castle meets 2004 Pirates all over again. ( )

Hee hee hee, so much - what's the word they use again? - so much butthurt. The sails are clearly the same ones from Brickbeard's Bounty, so they are preliminary and might change. So there's a possibly they won't also be white and red, because the ships will look very similar if they both have white and red sails. Whether I get the set or not actually depends of what the sails look like, the rest of the ship is different enough in colour from the BBB but if the sails look too similar than I probably won't bother. That's a perfectly adequate use for the stud shooter after all, much more sensible than having an entire cannon in the rowboat, from a common sense perspective. And yes, I also prefer brick-build walls to wall panels, especially when it means they can include interesting elements like masonry bricks. Although I would have accepted wall panels too, I guess I'm just easy to please. I'm not even looking at the minifigs, they are clearly all prelims. Although there does appear to be one bluecoat female at the fort, and that does intrigue me... normally the soldier females are just civilians/wives/daughters in dresses, but this one appears to be fighting. Hopefully that's not misleading. My only complaint based on these prelims is that the fort is a bit small, and that's unlikely to change, and there doesn't appear to be any way to connect the fort to the outpost after all, but this could change - there's something odd going on with the lower left corner of the fort, beneath the bluecoat. Together they would make up the size of 6242 Soldiers' Fort, which was also kind of small but never mind. Also the giant skull looks kind of bland, in a knockoff brand kind of way. But that could also change.
-
I will wait to see them before I judge them, though it's sounding less and less like I'm going to be excited by the reveal. The sails are just in a different shade of red? That's something I was hoping they wouldn't do, they could have been black and white or something. Or black and red. Actually there aren't many alternatives to combinations of those three colours, are there? Maybe black & yellow. Still, at least the 6263 fort is different from the 2009 fort. And I didn't really like the island base from 2009 anyway... And what do the two fort element look like while connected? Do they look better as a large fort? There is still hope. And I know I'll be getting them anyway, of course.

If 2015 Pirates is to 2009 Pirates what 2013 Castle is to 2010 Kingdoms, then I don't see a problem. I've always had trouble understanding why people thought 2013 Castle was dumbed down from 2010 Kingdoms, they look almost exactly the same. The more I consider the opinion of whoever saw the retailers catalogue, the less it means to me. The sets are about the same price points as the 2009 Pirates, so they're likely to be the same size as well, and I don't find the Brickbeard's Bounty 'Super Tiny'. I really want to either see the sets for myself, or hear the opinion of someone who isn't disappointed that Lego still produce sets aimed at children.

I sometimes vote for a concept even if the execution isn't that exciting, because presumably the project will be fixed up by Lego before it is released. But it is a shame that some of the pictures in the updates weren't used for the main page. I thought LeChuck's ship would been a great choice for a model.
-
Wow, didn't think it would have so much support already... I've added my support. Disney would own the Monkey Island property now, wouldn't they? So it wouldn't be impossible for Lego to work with them on this.
-
I can't believe I actually just laughed out loud at a Lego pun... I was a bit confused by 'smooth', so I put it into Google Translate and looked for alternative interpretations of the word 'haaien'. Apparently that bit could be 'raft', which makes sense. Also 'Block Beard' could be 'Sketchpad Beard'... yeah I don't think that's likely either. If they have an exclusive 'Kings Warship' I hope they release it at the same time as the rest of the sets, and not much later, like they did with the Imperial Flagship. No one has said anything about the 'dangerous creatures' yet. I wonder if they just mean the usual sharks and crocodiles, or if this theme will have brick-built monsters.
-
No it is what Bad Cop is holding here: Although it looks like there will be an alternative stud-mounted version of the shooter, if the Green Lantern set is anything to go by, and this would probably be easier to build into a cannon housing. I was dubious at first but I think a dark bley or black stud shooter with a black stud could pass as a small cannon.
-
I still strongly believe that this picture wasn't representative of the actual set, since it has exactly the same sails as the Brickbeard Bounty... I think it was just a few parts of a sailing ship thrown together for the sake of the competition art. But the set description we've been given doesn't discount the presence of firing cannons, it just focusses on what the person thought were the negative aspects of the set, which isn't much use at all really. The set may well have stud shooters and firing cannons. Yes, thank you - I hadn't noticed these. They make much more sense for mounted cannons than the hand-held stud shooters.
-
I mentioned this in the 2015 Lego Pirates thread, but I think it's an interesting challenge. Design a housing for the small stud shooter cannon that makes it look like a passable miniature pirate cannon. Unfortunately I don't own any of the stud shooters so I can't try to do this myself, but I'd be interested to see what other people come up with.

Wikipedia says the bowler hat was 'originally created in 1849'. A bit late for the Golden Age of Piracy (1650s to 1730s), but the Lego Pirates used to fight Lego Conquistadors (16th Century), so there has never been that much historical cohesion. It is weird to think of a pirate wearing headgear designed after the invention of the steam train, though. But I've been open to pirates wearing 19th century hats since a pirate wore a top hat in the first Monkey Island game - one of the pirates you fight on Mêlée Island. It depends on the size of the boat, to me - if this is a very small boat, as suggested, then I might accept the stud shooter as a small version of a cannon. Especially if it's put in some kind of cannon housing, like a small version of this: Actually, there's an interesting challenge - using parts already available, construct a passable housing for the Lego Stud Shooter. Go! Now that I think about it, one of the items on my 'Lego Pirate piece wish list' was a small swivel cannon, and this could potentially be just the right thing. Basically all of the complaints of the person who saw the retailer catalogue mean nothing to me.

2015 Speed Champions Sets - Rumours and Discussion
David Thomsen replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Town
I don't think they'll be that bad, but I am worried that they will use a few specialised blocks in order to make the cars look more realistic. Lego blocks can make all cars look kind of the same, like this Ford: And this Toyota: And this BMW: -
I think when you surround the set descriptions with so much negativity, of course they are going to sound 'megablocking horrible'. That technic-built tree doesn't look so bad to me, and if I disagree about one thing, I might disagree about other things as well. And I've already considered giving my pirates access to bowler hats, so I'm not surprised by this development. The stud shooters do sound unappealing, but I'll wait and see before judging them. And the small set sizes suggest this will be an ongoing theme, they can't possible have a Pirate theme without a soldier's ship. The small set sizes also don't bother me because I already have ships in other sizes, so a small ship is going to give more variety. I think I'm enough of a Pirate fan to appreciate anything they produce regardless. :)

LEGO CREATOR 2015 Rumours & Discussion
David Thomsen replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As a follower of the Creator buildings I'm interested in the Beach Hut and the Toy & Grocery Shop. The latter isn't going to be as big as the Bike Shop & Cafe, and I'm curious as to whether the 'A' model is a Toy & Grocery Shop, or if one of those is the 'A' model and the other one is the 'B' model. It's nice to be able to expand my Creator shopping district either way, though. Creator is like the reverse of City - instead of being all shops and no residencies, it's all homes and no shops. -
Personally the generic names of the sets appeal to me, I like Lego Pirates for being Lego Pirates and these set descriptions sound very Lego Piratey. Better than the alternative, which is to make the sets too gimmicky with names like 'Pirate Earth-Power Fight for Blue Crystal' or whatever. Pirate boats, forts, treasure islands, cannon battles... these are a few of my favourite things.

2015 Speed Champions Sets - Rumours and Discussion
David Thomsen replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Town
Don't forget that these prices are in New Zealand dollars! I'm very curious about this theme, they're obviously not at a high enough price range to be realistic large-models, but I find it hard to conceive of realistic licensed Lego car models at minifig scale. -
Oh, I should mention that I (or someone else equally anonymous) didn't find anything any new actual Castle related sets on the system.
-
Um... Crap! I mentioned a range called 'Elves', but if these set descriptions are anything to go by, not the castle fantasy theme you all seem to have become excited about, but something more geared towards young girls. Prices in New Zealand dollars: 19.99 - Airas Creative Workshop 24.99 - Farran & The Crystal Hollow 39.99 - Naidas Spa Secret 59.99 - Azari & The Magic Bakery 99.99 - Treetop Hideaway These sound more like Friends/Disney sets to me than Castle, I'm so sorry to get everyone excited! (Also the reason I was messaging CM4Sci was so I could remain anonymous, so pretend this has nothing to do with me... ) Edit: Oh I see this has already been discussed. I wonder why those translated descriptions are so different from mine?

The computer had early April as the 'release date', but as I said our system isn't the most reliable in this respect. I'm hoping someone can do some digging and find something to back my information up. I don't have any set numbers for example.
-
I'd rather not say specifically, but it's a retail store in New Zealand. I can't really give any proof that these are real, but I'm sure other sources will hopefully back me up now that the information is available. I'm sure other retailers have this information also, so someone could try going somewhere else and asking them to search their system for these set descriptions. I've found that staff will often oblige with this. And also there should be small impulse sets that I don't have the names for. Edit: Also, just noticed a Juniors set called 'Pirate Treasure Hunt' for 19.99 NZD. Not quite as interesting, but still Pirate related.
