  1. You can, of course, never be sure, but I think it is beyond the powers of TLG to shut down my internet. Not that my ISP doesnt f*ck up once in a while, but my LEGO addiction is such that I am well able to live trough those hard times…
  2. I'm with you on that. In years yonder we had fantastic sets like the "Snack Bar". Just brilliant!
  3. That's not new, I remember it came with one of the fire sets I had a few years ago. The airport firetruck just looks a bit too, ah, toy-ish for me. Then again: that's what it is, of course.
  4. If this came out, it would be very high on my "must buy" list. Absolutely beautiful!
  5. I absolutely love the lower cab design (headlights mainly) of the 60044 Mobile Police Unit. Very contemporary looking!
  6. Not with this piece. It locks the ladder quite well, something I found out this week while experimenting with a mod of one of my fire-sets.
  7. I'm not sure about that. That piece woul grip "around" the bottom part of the ladder and I don't see that on the picture. Seems to me to be an ordinary 2x?? plate. Ladders will grip onto that too.
  8. After closer inspection of the pictures I think you're right… shame that, not very realistic this way. Pricepoint again, I guess.
  9. Here's a Youtube link to how a real one works: I believe that there's s sliding mechanism on the Lego set that enables you to move the decks in pretty much the same way.
  10. Yep, that's the way it works. For that to work you'll need some "flexible"/moveable parts that I also think only Technic can provide. Next question is if maybe there are other Technic parts that could provide the same movement while looking a little less "technic-y".
  11. 4899 from 2009 is kind of a tribute to this one too, I just realised: Actually: it's kind of a modern version, with some extra bells 'n whistles, a slight update because of the new wheels and a whopper of a bonnet. But the rest of the design is the same.
  12. Here are the links to Brickset, which apparently has already received a set (am I wrong in thinking a review wil be posted here as well in the near future?) Review: 10243 Parisian Restaurant, part 1 Review: 10243 Parisian Restaurant, part 2
  13. I had 6603 when I was a kid. It was one of those kits you could put together blindly, no instructions needed. And yet it looked great! Sadly it got lost in the great "yeah dad, just throw my old stuff in your attick away" catastrophy...
  14. The police outfits seem to have been inspired by US-coppers kits (you know, the ones we see in countless movies and TV-series). I don't dislike them, but they don't really go with the more traditional (black) outfits my other policemen have... I'm happy the starter set form this year had a olice motor with that traditional outfit. However, I think I'll get one or two of the new policebike sets next year (will wait until "Kruidvat" (dutch chain of pharmacies) has them for 5 euro, as they always do a month or two after the official launch), as well as 60048.
  15. Yep. We might be pretty "serious" about this stuff, and opinionated at that, but in the end it's mostly kids that decide what sets get bought. And apparently they want police and fire department. So Lego makes these. Luckily enough there's enough other stuff to go round too and if that's not enough there's that old saying used in Dutch ads from years ago: "you can make everything with Lego"... ;)
  16. 4 studs. It's a variant on this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jl4sQRXJbf8/UA0kerDXesI/AAAAAAAAYnc/RPL9msCH1-I/s1600/4200f.jpg
  17. Top on my list: the car transporter and the lighting truck. The latter one will suit perfectly in my yet to assemble city, the former, well, I'll find a space for it somewhere in town... ;) Sme for the logging truck which could easily be transformed to a building materials transport - a, I convinced myself, that one will be on my list too. Tow truck looks great, but a bit big for my city. Same for the crashtender, looks promising, but I have no idea where it would fit in my city-plan. Rest looks okay, but not really my thing. Camper is redesigned (front looks a bit like the orange repair truck from this year), but looks disappointingly much like the one from a few years ago.
  18. I don't know. I like the dumpster bit on the back, but in general it just looks too much like yet another variation on the same theme.
  19. That "fact" could be disputed, there are numerous other companies that build similar crashtenders... ;)

    Car Talk

Ah, a car thread. Saw a Focus on the previous page, I'll ad mine to that then... Well I say "mine", in reality it's a company car but I'm free to use it how I like.
  21. Yep, that's what I meant. I realise that due to restrictions because of the size of the buildings some realism has to be sacrificed and that this is the best practical solution there is. Because of the placement of the french balcony I also believe that this solution was "designed in". But it still bugs me a bit... Then again: I'll probably buy only one of these. I love the modulars (own 2 now), but boy, are they expensive. So that's one less thing to worry about...
  22. It's a nice "solution", but not very realistic. The only way to get to the artists studio is by crossing the floor below.
  23. Google "french balcony" and I think you'll see what Lego intended to do with that "door to nowhere"... ;)
  24. So, I stopped by the local modelshop today, curious if they had these sets on sale. They did. The price was a bit steep though, at € 15,-. So I put the spitfire back. Only to discover some minutes later that my girlfriend took it and bought it for me (yep, she's great - but also likes planes very much). Put it together tonight. The instructions are a bit too simple. Some parts have to be put together in a specific order, because otherwise the parts don't seem to fit the way they're supposed to. I had to do some dis- and reassembling, because I put them together in the wrong order the first time. Compared with real lego, the plastic is of a slightly less high quality (the difference is clearly cvisible when you compare them side to side), but compared to other plastic kits it's way better. The fit is very good, I expected the seams between the camouflage parts to stand out a bit, but they don't. The lego-like parts work very good with real lego parts too, but the color quality of Lego is better, so the Arifix parts stand out quite a bit when used together. Still, it took me about five minutes to put the kit together, including the mistakes I made. I understand where the pricepoint comes from, the quality of the parts is there, but a lego kit that costs € 15,- simply offers more playtime and thus more "bang for the buck". The verdict: nice kit, don't regret getting it, but I'd rather have a lego kit for this money.
  25. Regular price over here (NL) was 65 euro's (thats about 550 swedish kr). If I remember correctly scandinavian prices are always a bit higher than over here, so I think maybe your memory is being a bit optimistic... ;) (or mine pessimistic, but I hesitatie to believe that the set was considerably cheaper in Sweden than over here)
