  1. I recently bought 8366 supersonic R/C from Ebay it is one of the sets you describe. The motors are the the new style 9v Technic motors as found in 8421 Mobile Crane they are more powerful than the micro motor. The RC unit has 2 electric outputs both will run a motor in forward and reverse I understand that the second electric output was only available on this set. There is also a steering unit which is driven via an axle fitted to the RC unit no electrical connection. The rest of the set is standard technic studless. I have seen the RC unit built into several different sets on Brickself as it will drive any of the 9v motors.
  2. Bought 4404 Designer Set Land Busters and just spent most of the evening building it I found it in a local department store that has a good selection of Lego Every so often they must have a clear out of the stock room because they have quite a few discontinued sets I have seen alpha team and Orient Expedition sets on their shelves in the last few months
  3. I noticed this when building my Telehanler I got 3 different shades of beam and liftarm especially if you look at it in bright light but it does not show when on display. I have also checked my Enzo there is some difference but it is not as noticable :'-(
  4. I saw these Copies on Ebay they are inferior copies of Lego sets from china being imported through Ebay there are a lot of different sets available. Lego stopped a shipment of these comming into Finland several years ago see Double T reportHere
  5. I won 8366 Supersonic RC on Ebay for
  6. Znap! This must have been a complete disaster from TLC's point of view aswell all that new production tooling and then not selling very well. It appears on Ebay all the time and a lot of it goes unsold My local toy shop brings out load of accessory bags each christmas in a hope someone might buy them. On the football theme I recently bought a lot of the accessory packs for the footballs as I am planning to build a Great Ball contraption at some stage :-D
  7. I had several construction toys ( betta builder, Philoform, Meccano etc ) when I was growing up but I always went back to playing with Lego and probably spent more time building models with Lego than anything else. I also remember becomming a Member of the Lego club in the UK back in the late 1970's. I remember going to the first Lego Club convention held at Milton Keynes shopping centre where we set a world record for the longest and for the tallest Lego model. There were buckets of Lego all around the centre and you could build anything you wanted and join it to the next guys to form a long chain. There were also lots of pro display models on show it was a great day out.
  8. I remember going through all the links to community sites on Lego Fan and after watching several different sites for a while I decided to sign up here X-D
  9. I got 7902 Doctors Car form TRU. My daughter wanted it so who am I to say no ;-) I get to build it when she's gone to bed. They also got some balloons from the Lego Store
  10. I totally agree most of the sets I have bought recently advertise the web site either on a leaflet or on the back of the instructions this is far cheaper that printing catalogues.
  11. I keep all the boxes of sets I buy now I have got some large cadboard boxes in my attic full of boxes. I try to put the smaller ones inside the larger ones to reduce space. I wish TLC would invent a box that folds flat to store easily without ripping the sides.
  12. Today I bought 65800 city collection that is the box containing : 7242 street sweeper 7248 digger 7243 construction site 7249 XXL mobile crane and some kind of play mat (still in the box) I picked them up in TRU for
  13. Add me to the Harry Hill fan list :-D the way he takes an alternative look at soap operas just cracks me up!
  14. Yesterday I bought 8283-Telehandler paid full price :-( I have just finished building the first model some nice details on this one I will try the alternative tomorrow.
  15. I quite like the Enzo but it was never marketed as technic it was Racers. If you want to look at other themes the Starwars hailfire droid 4481 is one of the coolest looking technic sets around totally studless. Anyway back to the orignal thread my first sets were 853 and 854 the orignal chassis and gokart that I bought back in 1978. These sets had as many standard bricks and plates as they had bricks with holes. I used to enjoy building the engine from a hand full of plates there is not as much fun in putting together engines from one piece mouldings. The mobile crane 8421 was the set that finally brought me out of my dark ages and it is a very chalenging build and looks great on display. But the big problem with studless is the lack of ability to integrate with standard bricks the older set were great because you could build onto studed technic and add detail to your MOC's I totally agree with Mithrandir those Fairings look awfull and ther are really difficult to get to fit right.
  16. Great review  One thing though I think the Spielberg figure as you called him is supposed to be Ross Brawn Ferrari's technical director. I was looking at these sets at the weekend but my car goes for a service this week so I dont have any spare cash. They will go on my must have list! I cant wait for the new season still only 12 days to go :-D
  17. I dunno, they seemed pretty reasonable to me. 8281 - $10/121p = 8.26 cents per piece 8282 - $20/200p = 10 cents per piece 8283 - $30/322p = 9.31 cents per piece Considering that 8282 came with chainlinks, I found that to be worth the higher price :) I guess that when you break it down like that they don't seem to bad Maybe I will get them all I agree with your other comments as well throwbots, slizer were a poor excuse for Technic it is hard to find decent sets from the late 90's to 2003 and the good ones you need to win the lottery to afford! Roll on 2006
  18. I saw these in Toysrus on Saturday I think they were march release in UK I will probably get 8283 but the piece count is very small for the price on the others.
  19. Ok Id like to come but I can confirm until closer to the date but I only live 1.5 hours drive away so I would only come for the Saturday
  20. SW will always be popular as it is collected by people outside the Lego community. Exo-force will also do well the sets seem to be selling fast in the UK most of my local shops only have a few sets left.
  21. Well, if the box is the indicator, the dune buggy is the main model. I can't say I disagree - the tractor was a hideous thing (no offense intended to the few who liked it), not that yet another duge bunny holds much interest for me either. I have officially given up on Adventurers for 2006. Sigh. Here's hoping for 2007. Please TLC, don't let Johnny die! Both the boxes for the dune buggy and tractor carry the same product code 8284 maybe one is for the American market and one for Europe have TLC done this before. I thing the sets seem to have been a competion to see how many different coloured bricks you can get into one Technic set. on a brighter note what about the new battery box
  22. I recently saw a great advert on one of the childrens channels on satellite while I was at a friends house. It was for City construction theme the mobile crane was used to remove a road bridge. Do any older members remember the adds where a pile of bricks would build themselves into say a house then a car then back into a pile of bricks. They used to be on regularly AHH! me  mories
  23. I agree I heard an interview with a guy from Lego a while back and he said it was TLC's aim to have all bricks in production available in as many colours as possible through the Factory scheme and available individually not as the packets as they are now. It will be a while before it is available though I think Trains are next to be added towards the end of this year. lets hope technic will be after that
  24. LDD is slightly easier to use but it is limited to the bricks available in the lego factory program. mlcad/ldraw have virtually every piece of lego TLC have ever produced if you are prepared to search the internet for them. It also helps if you have some 3D cad experience. Check Both out!!
  25. The F1 racers have to be red as TLC's licence is with Ferrari If the were a different coulor this might be seen as favouring another F1 team
