It's reasonably rare, it's a con exclusive, after all. Now the trans-orange ones... :P

The new pakari is my least favorite of the new designs, tone honest. The size feels awkward in person, and the side prongs look weird on this one. I feel like the front looks like a wrinkled semi-collapsed version of the original. Not a huge fan. I do love the new kaukau though. Probably my favorite of the new ones. Gali's old mask was just slightly too angular and modern compared to the other original five, and the new one is more in line with the others.

Yeah the one is mixed with something, not sure what or why. Front said on Flickr he wondered if it was GitD, but it is not. I think it honestly might just be a misprint where the plastic dyes hadn't flushed yet, the orange is much lighter in that one as well. These are apparently non-production parts anyway. One other of the orange haus I'm aware of has a slight color variance too, but otherwise they are all just trans-orange.

I put this up a month or so ago, back when these were the only masks I had. I'll have comparisons with the other three as well at some point, but this was accessible.

I never take that photo because I think it's a waste of time. Sorry, when I do my review for BZP it probably won't have that shot. It'll have a "new and interesting parts" photo, though!

Restock with what? Who says they haven't been? The manufacturing side of this probably saw the HF sets retired quicker than normal in order to put the new BIONICLE sets into production. It wouldn't surprise me if normally there's a bit of a faded crossover from one wave to another when it comes to lines where the near-entirety of them are done in one single LEGO factory (as opposed to all over, constraciton parts are almost exclusively done in one single factory for the entire world), but with the new switch back to BIONICLE, I bet the last HF wave had a smaller production run to ramp up production for BIONICLE.

I mean, the "it's half a mask" thing was the most prominent part of the mask for several years. I mean, anyone who was in the fandom back in 2002 or 2003 or 2005 can testify to that being one of the first things people mention when getting it in plastic or seeing it in pictures. It was a prominent part of the design.

I'm confused as to why anyone thinks he'd be implying a connection between the canons? In all seriousness, everyone keeps saying "but if there isn't a connection, why would he bring the vahi comment out of nowhere? He had to have been implying a connection between the canons!!" That doesn't make any sense to me at all. You're all thinking from a story PoV, and Jordan Paxton is an advertising and brand promotions employee, and he's thinking business. Maybe it's my corporate employment at an international business, but he's not speaking story PoV at all. You hear "the vahi is referenced" and think "oh my god the same mask from the first series??? How did it get to the new canon???" And he's thinking "we're using the same concept, but the mask will be a full mask this time, so don't worry, we're taking things from the first canon to help it feel familiar, that's the connection". Same with the "we're featuring the original six toa" comment. People took that immediately as "oh my god these are our original six toa in a new universe, how did they get there???" and he's thinking "we're reusing those characters in a new canon to give people an immediate point of familiarity and not alienate the original fanbase. Just like the new Star Trek did." I mean no disrespect, but the weird "the vahi reference means there's some time travel aspect that links the original canon to the new one, oh man!" thing came from you guys exclusively, and all the other attendees, from RusBIONICLE to BZPower to other random media people took it completely differently. Considering the YT comment section nature of your fanbase, the misinformation gets spread hyper-quick and it gets fairly annoying to have to have this exact conversation several hundred times on the exact same sites over and over. I don't intend to claim you are doing this on purpose or any such thing, it's clear you guys heard something different or took his comments very differently than it seems he intended from all that we heard from him (even in the same interview you did with him, as we were standing right next to you guys lol), and what several of us have been told about the storyline the past six or so months.

Star Trek is a go-to for most popular sci-fi media franchises currently, as it is the highest profile rebooted franchise currently extant. It is actually a great example, because it is often seen as a soft reboot, even though minus Spock it is entirely a hard reboot. I am not surprised a sales and franchise rep was given Star Trek as a quick comparison talking point at a pop culture convention. Yes, I do indeed have more story information than the average NYCC attendee, and have been aware of the line's reboot status for the entire time I have known about the relaunch. The vahi comment was made because someone asked the rep about links to the old universe or canon. He said "we'll for example, in the first story we had the mask of time made by a character in the film. But it was only half a mask. In the new series we will feature a completed mask." Trying to see that as confirmation of a universe link or speculating on consumers receiving a piece of plastic meant to connect to the original mask is foolish. It is like the "we are featuring the original toa" comment. With the exception of those determined to link these canons, all other attendees understood these lines to refer to ways to invite and create similarities between the two canons, not actually link them.

I don't have any misunderstandings, thank you very much. I was both at NYCC and helped plan the entire panel for a good chunk of the year. Your post is weirdly condescending considering I have literally known about this for the last six months. The vague answer was the go to comment by the LEGO rep (who is not on the BIONICLE team, by the way) to show fans that certain themes and ideas from the first canon will have mirrors in the second. The team made it very clear in the panel that this is a reboot.

Where is this whole "we're going to get a separate top part of the mask" idea coming from? That's not going to happen. The soft-reboot "we're getting the vahi from the original canon finished" thing is pretty clearly a misunderstanding from those of us not-TTV from NYCC. The LEGO employee's comment was definitely more of a "it's definitely got connections to the original story, like how in the first story, we had the mask of time, but it was only half a mask? In the NEW story we'll have the whole mask instead". So more of a "this is a familiar returning element to ease the story" not a "this is LITERALLY THE SAME MASK FROM THE FIRST CANON". People are reading too much into it, and reading it the wrong way.

If I won it I would post photos of it in my collection of masks and rare parts and watch anonymous fans on image boards complain about said ownership.

The HF limbs are in no way less filled-in than the old BIONICLE limbs which were hollow, empty, and over-detailed. No thanks. I'd rather CCBS keep doing its own thing than see it revert back to unecessary technic construction because a few fans have decided never to like it no matter how long LEGO keeps using it.

I started building yesterday. ;) -
Yes I was. I really really disliked it. I had never before and never since given such an unfavorable review. I think the set is awful in every manner.

It's a shame that Tarix is such an awful set, since the guy seems so very very cool.

I can't really think of a more polite way to say this, but anyone who is seriously constrained at MOCing because of the CCBS isn't trying very hard. I find it incredibly useful, simpler, and more expressive than the old system, and MOCs look more like actual toys than jumbled parts trying to form a cohesive whole.

There's a separate part that goes in the center and has an axle rod space you put a rod through. The studs attach to the rounded parts on front, and then you turn the axle, and the inside portion spins. It has a notch on it that strikes the studs and forces them out. It works incredibly well.

We don't have that many. The bag had probably three hundred or so in it. We parted a good chunk of them out amongst those of us the bag was given to, and held back a good several dozen for BZP and BIONILUG giveaways. There will be opportunities to win them. I doubt via a new member raffle.

No. They fit on the brain attack head (albeit loosely), but not the Glatorian heads. Why? Because of the small rounded nubs at the end of the jaws by the axle holes. They protrude out, and they don't allow the masks to fit on.

BZP will indeed have full front-page articles, and we will have front page video reviews with the BIONICLE emloyees who were there. The new masks connection stays on, but hit the eyes and they fly off. Mask knocking off function! They also don't wobble, clearly designed to fit the new head perfectly. The new shooters work phenomenally. Like WOW. Better than any other BIONICLE shooter. However, be aware that the two parts put together to make the launcher do not come apart once put together. All the weapons TLG sent us outside of Kopaka's swords were silver, which oddly included the boomerangs too. Which we learned yesterday come in gunmetal on the set, so I guess my eight of those are special! I was also at the store event last night so now I have all of the toa masks and most of the weapons and whatnot as well. And so many of the new blue shells. So pretty!
