Hey marcos, Rick has already brought this wonderful MOC to our attention... congrats for the blog and - what an awesome combination indeed! As usual, I'm once again starting to feel bad for not owning any Fabuland sets :)

Can't say about the others, but I myself have frequented many "large" forums. And as a moderator on most of those, I've always used my trusty iron fist (no glove included) when it comes to such stuff, mostly because "The Internet is for porn", as you might already be aware, and anyone with 1+ fingers and access to google could find whatever kind of adult-oriented stuff floats their boat in a matter of seconds. It's not about being offended in any way, it's just about the fact that they don't need to find it in a forum dealing with something totally different. Back to the original topic, which was pretty simple and clear, since Siegfried likes to state things in a very coherent way, unlike my long-winded self. EB is an AFOL site - deal with it. If someone gets a muzzle, they probably needed it. But if they want to sneak in and join the fun, they could at least try to avoid getting caught. In that sense, the mods are doing quite well. Another 2 cents of mine. That makes 4, I guess.

I'd rather say that everyone is saying everybody else is building pick-up trucks and using it as an excuse... while refusing to admit that they secretly crave trucks! You're off to a good start there, Gen85. I'd back that hook up a little bit though, otherwise you run the risk of ramming every other car that gets in this truck's way (or is that the whole point of it :D)

"Alright guys, time to get building!" Or is there a hidden message with the black/white colouring... Care to elaborate, oh block-ridden MOCcer? Btw, for what it's worth, I think one day this will be viewed as your masterpiece. That's what happens to all writers, remember? And besides - I like it even now.

How did you get your wife hooked on the Lego hobby?
MetroiD replied to Legoist's topic in General LEGO Discussion
She'd heard legends of this pile of cardboard boxes which contained the most important part of my childhood treasure. Then one day we went to my old house and opened the boxes. She said, "This is a treasure indeed, you can't let it just lie around here and collect dust or risk a thief breaking in and stealing it all. We're taking it home." So I didn't really do a single thing to get her into LEGO. The next day after we'd opened the boxes, she took a toothbrush and started cleaning every single brick in warm water until they finally looked playable again. Of course, I helped too, but... it was definitely a heartwarming moment for the LEGO-loving kid in me who'd forgotten his ways. Now she says that she knows every single nook and cranny of mine, and I'm not sure if she only means that in the LEGO sense!!! -
Now all we need are three bleak figures and an attendant cornered in between his bar and the wall... You're right though, funny how this little "time machine" has worked there. Anyway, this is a wonderful MOC and it's turning into something awesome. I'm definitely thinking of copying / drawing inspiration from Hopper's Nighthawks in a future MOC myself!

This ship has turned out really nicely! I'm a fan of Brigs and I like how this one looks, besides I appreciate the realistic touch (two masts, I suppose you're working on some square rigging for those...). Can't wait to see her fitted with sails!
-
Wow, what an amazing MOC! Now that's the kind of castle I'd literally play with all day long!
-
Should have promised us some ice cream before you posted that MOC! A little bribery always goes a long way!
-
Nice orphanage Bart - althought that does sound like a true oxymoron. I could just see some of those kids rising to fame as great swashbucklers veeery soon!
-
Arrrr, congrats mateys!!! Hold 'er steady and set course for treasarrrrgh and arrrriches! Enjoy your blogging experience guys Always nice to see EB & its related blogs expanding! P.S.: Fighting over rum already? I don't believe you guys - after all the times I've asked who's buying the drinks and noone ever said one word, NOW you tell me you've been hiding the good stuff all along!!... Oh well, on a brighter note, we've got whiskey stashed in the Town Hall

MOC: Dutch Police VW Golf
MetroiD replied to Ralph_S's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What a great MOC, Ralph! Make sure you check out Classic-Town.net tomorrow morning :) -
Can't wait either! I love narrow-gauge trains, and this sure looks exciting.

Totally true - for so many reasons beyond the "mature content" thing. But since we've touched on that anyway, let me just remind you all of an S/M MOC which was posted on the Town boards a couple of weeks ago... I'd bet that the kids didn't really have a problem with it; however it was other members, most of them adults (me included) who found that MOC tasteless, to say the least. Even if the forum was 18+ only, period, no exceptions, there would still be stuff which I'd rather not see here not because I'm offended or anything, but simply because I don't think they belong with LEGO, no matter how original they might be. However, 15-piece MOCs that only make sense to their creators are also not too high on my priority list either. Point is, this is one of the few places where AFOLs from all over the world can gather and have a meaningful discussion, while also making friends from across the globe. (Most) kids aren't too interested in that, their reasons for joining are entirely different, so there you have it. It's about trying to have a community - as much as that's possible bearing in mind EB has thousands of (regular) users, instead of just being a huge gathering of people with everyone of them vying for attention.

I bet LEGO will take care of that themselves in due course :] Besides, call me crazy, but I don't think all modulars (Market Street included) look perfectly good stacked alongside each other. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful and definitely a sight to behold, but combining them according to their colour nuances with MOCs in between makes even more sense to me. Oh, and... yes, obviously, I have been proven wrong. The Emporium is awesome - even though it could do with a couple of MODs (I love cagri's window washer despite his obvious failure to locate a proper window -- and I share Svelte's notions regarding the "shop" sign). Must have!

Log off? What's "log off"!? I... don't understand!!! On a more serious note, yeah sure, I'm addicted. I follow Town, Trains, Pirates and Community very closely. I tend not to post too much, although I admit I tend to get long-winded when I actually do. To be perfectly honest, I'm addicted to a lot more things on the Internet which have become everyday activities for me, but I love taking breaks from all computer-related stuff.

I think that's the reason why a lot of us have joined EB in the first place. At least for me, that's one of the primary reasons to be here. I could always showcase my MOCs over @ MOCpages for example. But I'd never get that kind of feedback or constructive criticism (which is always very nice to get, especially because on most occasions people who are your buddies and know your MOCs and building techniques well are the ones who spot places where you could still improve). Besides, having been an EB member for a bit less than a year now, I can really feel the positive influence I've had from exposing myself to other people's creative MOCs. Being around other great MOCcers spurs on your own desire to improve and, having been a collector rather than a MOCcer throughout my childhood, I did feel I needed that! At the end of the day - both MOCcing and collecting sets are great hobbies. And as long as people are happy doing that, it doesn't matter how they do it.

So who's buying the drinks anyway!?

Thanks for the image, Rick & Er!k, that was very kind of you. This is precisely why I don't like prelim pics... The set looks like a bit of a let down to me, although I'll probably be proven wrong later on. In any case, it looks like it contains a bunch of wonderful and really useful bricks, which is great news! Just one more stupid question: even though this is not a prelim pic (i.e. doesn't have a stamp on it), shouldn't it still be a link rather than be officialy posted on the board? Not that it matters really

Do we absolutely have to have a new thread about rip-offs and clone brands pop up every other day and then discuss it, going over the same old stuff again and again for eternity? Yes, we know about them. No, we don't like them. Some of us are curious enough to check out their designs / quality and have provided reviews of clone brand sets. A search in that direction would give you all the answers you need. And Big Cam is spot on about the meaning of this sig. As far as I'm aware, there's several board games which are partially produced in China and have a proven inferior quality of minifigs / bricks. The qualm with that is not so much about having to moan about something, but rather arises from the problem which such Chinese-made bricks pose when put up on Bricklink - where you can't differentiate between them and regular bricks and there's a chance you'd end up buying a "bad" brick. That about sums it up, I guess?

Whenever I navigate to a website which doesn't show up at all (due to my NoScript blocking Flash content), I start having second thoughts about whether I should stay there. Flash is all fine and dandy, but websites that are entirely based on it have one thing in common: I tend to keep away from them. Especially if their loading process takes half a century to complete... Can't help but wonder precisely who this is aimed at though. Doesn't look very childish and that tweethash has left me totally confused. Tweet about what makes me click... riiiiight.

Wow, this is totally awesome! Great job, gambort! I must admit that it looks rather modern to me... perhaps adding a sidecar might underline the 'oldtimer' effect?
-
And that's one of the few things which were mentioned initially... I believe that was even in this thread. In any case, thanks for the info and sorry if I've offended you in any way. Your initial reaction was, however, not too well conceived. The best thing is, another month or two and we'll all actually have the chance to own this set and see it for ourselves.
