Does anybody else like Motorcycles around here?
MetroiD replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Community
I'm with Zorbas on those lucky temperatures, New Year's Day had a record high temperature in store for us. Pity the cold winds have once again started blowing since then, but after all - it's winter, and it's January, so you can't expect anything else, now can you. As to those Serbian and Greek specialties - I can only say Mmmmmmmm!!! Let's hope this year will finally be THE year when I manage to save up for a bike and come over to grab a bite with you guys ;] -
Awww come on, you know I still love ya, γείτονας! And your inability to count right won't change that Jokes aside though, it's not as if anyone really cares about that anyway. I mean, whether we take 2009 or 2010 as the final year of this decade, I don't think we're going to see sets much better or more popular than the Modulars or the Town Plan. For the record - my favourite Modular is actually the Green Grocer (although I have the feeling this year's Emporium will be even better), but I still had to put the Cafe Corner on top of my list there, seeing as this was the set which brought about the revolution...

As in, ? Couldn't resist Those kneeling emoticons sure look like SW fans to me though... And the dark red king guy bears a striking resemblance to a certain Johnson-rod-wielding troublemaker...

What difference does it make, both Town and Trains will still be cooler Congratulations on the latest baby (?) in our forum ;] Brickster Boy, You Da Man! (does THAT sound stupid... I know. Forgive me.) Seriously though, this change was definitely necessary and it's great to see it carried out sooner rather than later. Eurobricks is by far the most comprehensive LEGO resource on the 'net, so such a division is more than appropriate and welcome. Besides, this goes to show that the forum itself is expanding and that is wonderful - just having such train-geniuses around (you know who you are guys ) makes me even more convinced that this is the No. 1 stop for any kind of information, be that new building techniques or techie stuff. Cheers boys & girls, and once again - hats off to the Brickster!
-
Wave for Brickster! Yaaaay! We'll have to work hard to keep this up in 2010, especially now that Town & Train have been separated... (sorry for the belated congrats, I've tried to keep myself away from PCs these last few days )

Don't you just love it when people keep on claiming that LEGO has stolen some "design" from them... And they actually believe it - most of the time!
-
As usual, I agree with you there, mate - obviously you're not the only one who was picky about this (or Siggy!). And this is starting to worry me. Same as the fact that we STILL don't have a :shudder: emoticon Back to the topic at hand though - Cafe Corner, no doubts there. The Modular Buildings, along with the Exclusive Sets, is the best thing that happened to LEGO over this past decade. Other than that, I also loved the Santa Fe Super Chief and the BNSF GP-38 train engines, well as the Market Street (which is not a "modular" per se, as we've discussed on numerous occasions). I also liked the Town Plan, but that's about it. I've only built it out of curiousity - these bricks are way too cool to just sit around in the form of semi-unfinished buildings LEGO were always going to release a great set for their 50th anniversary, but I think the introduction of the Modulars was by far the better surprise.

When I was a small kid growing up in a relatively small city (albeit the second biggest one by Bulgarian standards), I just loved the "city" itself. Not that specific one - rather, the concept, the feeling of a "city". It's not a feeling one can describe, although Stevie Wonder and Undercover, off the top of my hat, have actually done quite a good job of capturing it in melody (Living for the City / Baker Street). The urban jungle (laaame, I know, but it sounds right) has always drawn me and has offered me a weird way of exploring the outside world - checking just how much I fit in as a cog in the city. Surely the wheels would still turn without me and the streets would still be full of life, but finding out that you also contribute to it all every day, just by walking out, just by roaming those streets, was definitely a thrill. I still remind myself of that fact sometimes and it somehow makes me feel nice. I've lived in many cities since then, including some of the biggest European metropolises, and have come to appreciate the unique atmosphere which each and every city and its people, buildings and streets are able to create. I guess to me, the city is more than just a place I live in and an urban area, the disadvantages of which I have to put up with on a daily basis (don't we all!). It's a living, breathing entity, and having the ability to recreate that in LEGO bricks and brand it "My Own Town" is simply amazing. I've wanted to build an "AFOL" tabletown layout for so long now, and I'm sure that one day us Otters will start work on a never-ending project which will fulfil that dream of mine (which has meanwhile become a common goal :) ). The great thing is that until then, I can still picture the corners of "my own town" and take out the brick boxes whenever I feel inspired in order to recreate some little bit off the streets that surround me in the real world. That, to me, feels more magical than any knight or fairy... or mecha.

Eeeerm... right. Thanks once again to everyone for your very kind words! I will definitely try my best to come to the other side next time and subject my own entry to your CC :] Let's hope 2010 will be a good year for MOCcing! Cheers fellas
-
Yay!!!! As I said a couple of days ago... rum all 'round mateys! Cheers to all, have yerselves a swashbuckling new year and may it bring a whole lot of booty your way :) Thanks for the kind words, I'm happy I've been able in some small way to contribute to the fun of this contest... And, once again, thank you ever so much for organizing this, c-p!!!

Not my kettle of fish. And not quite "holiday" either. P.S.: One thing's for sure though - if I were that gal, I'd be suing the doc who did my breasts
-
Always loved your MOCs, and this goes to show just why. It's an absolutely lovely train station... and I'm speechless!
-
Holodoc mate, that surely looks like an AWESOME bargain, especially considering the price of the PF package. Perhaps I'll be buying the Emerald Night plus one of these, instead of saving up for a separate PF set - or for the (way too expensive) PF Emerald Night set.
-
Isn't that precisely what eBay's for The signs are really nice, but for a MOC sold on eBay I'd have expected some more details. It's a good start though and serves greatly as an inspiration

* drools * I KNEW it! I just knew that one of you guys would go modular on the Pirates and make one of the coolest MOCs - evah! Ye've warmed this city-luvin seadog's heart, ye have! Sooo many landlubbers... and soooo much plunder! Yarrrr! That's absolutely wonderful, Erdy. Hats off mate!
-
Poor walrus - looks to me as though you're being mistreated there, although I'm not sure precisely how... Then again, I guess that's better then being whacked continously once again by Hinck... er, by that madman who's somehow reached outer space (wno can stop him now!!! We've gotta do something...) The Luvly Lady is... luvly, Sieggy, and as impractical as her cannon arrangement might look, I'm sure it works wonders on unsuspecting real interstellar pirates - must be a nice surprise once they've decided she's harmless enough to be approached (sorta like an actula real-life lady there!). My one suggestion (yeah, the perils of trying to be a creative critic - you become annoying almost immediately - tell me about it): add an EMP Pulse function. Of course, that would render the cheerful Xmas android absolutely useless for a good few minutes, but as long as the Cap'n knows what he's doing, that time could be enough to steal all the blue buckets, sugar candy and/or whacking hammers in the universe! Now then - how can I vote for this?
-
* heavy sigh * Such a shame that I missed out on those great 12V times...
-
Rum all 'round! Cheers mateys, those were some truly fascinating MOCs!

From a City fan's point of view, buying the City Advent calendar at the end of the year should have been an obvious choice. Instead, this year I decided to buy the Pirates Calendar - and I'm glad I did that! Yes, I missed out on that cool mini-RC scene, but the mermaid and the sawfish are a more prized possession :) While I love the fact that the 2009 City Calendar focused on the festive season, winter holidays, etc., I think it's a case of "more of the same", as BlueBard said - I really like the way that street lamp turned out, and the log-chopping scene also looks nice (even though it's nothing TOO special - or festive), but that's about it. Bearing in mind this calendar did try to bring us as many Christmas scenes as possible, I think it failed miserably at offering a remotely nice-looking snowman or Christmas tree - and there's quite a few bits of the Calendar that look like total "fillers", which were used as a last resort after the designers finally got bored. My favourite City Calendar was the 2007 one. Not only because of some wonderful memories connected to it, but also because it had a diverse assortment of scenes and minifigs. Yes, the "radar" was awful, but the turntable is still a mighty useful piece that you can never have enough of :) Besides, the mini-Christmas tree was absolutely adorable!

Currrrrvy!!! Good job on the front there For some reason, I get the feeling it's a bit longish, but it may just be me - pretty often the models look totally different in person than when photographed. The chrome bumpers are a great touch, well done!
-
What a wonderful Beetle - the challenge itself is obviously a great idea, it portrays the typical MOCcing style of both o'ya :) I really LOVE the work you've done on the rear of this done! And what's more, this reminds me that I should finally get around to photographing & posting those Type 2's of mine...

Figures. I suspected you'd only change your name for the PTV voting, to avoid confusing voters and sure enough you just did that... finally! I was really starting to get confused, same as half of Eurobricks, trying to keep up with your Friday-loving usernames
-
You never give up, do you now P.S.: Oooops, I'd forgotten you actually were already a wieeeeneeeer
-
No luck here either Congrats... WIENERS!!!

You don't know!? Bart - that AND your squirrel fetish. Wow. I shudder at the thought... again (Rick, where are you )
