  1. I agree and have commented as well. :-)
  2. If they did bring back The Hogwarts Express at least we will get the windows with rounded corners back. 4513548 by Stephen, on Flickr
  3. Thanks Patrick. I am getting ready for a child's workshop/play event at a shopping centre this week, when I pull out the controller we have built, I will post some pictures in the other thread. :-)
  4. I have been waiting for a new Power Functions system for a long time. I am sooooo hoping, we will get a Bluetooth or WIFI controlled train. Its about time we had a modern control system. The only thing I'm worried about is that if it is a new system, that the wire connections may change, we have seen the Wedo 2.0 and Boost have different connections to Power Functions. If they are moving to a new connection, please please please, LEGO, do an adaptor cable like you have in the past, the 9V system could be connected to PF with the extension cable 8886 I have read before about the planning for the PF 1.0 train systems and now it was consulting and working with AFOLs about what was needed to make the system work for train AFOL's, I would hope that LEGO again did this if they where planning a change to the PF system. Other control systems have been developed by 3rd parties, this says to me that LEGO is being left behind in the development curve of the control systems. Our LUG does a lot of public displays and we let children drive trains and Technic models, its a big hit with the public, but the biggest problems we have had is the design of the controllers. They have the sender lens of the IR in a place that every single child, placers their fingers over the lens and blocks the signal (IR is a line of sight system) They also tend to point the controller up to the roof as well. Plus with the trains the children always drive the train at top speed and derail the train, we have built heaver trains with lower centres of gravity and have build a geared down controller that takes the child 3 full turns to run the train at speed 7. A LUG member has to constantly supervise the child to stop the train derailing. At our last show we also tried running the battery box with just 4 batteries and this helped with the speed. We are hoping that a new controller is coming and that it will advance the Power Functions system. BUT I have looked at the image of the "City Train" (note it's not possible in this day and age to not see these things, they just pop up in Facebook feeds) I saw the Diner leaked some time ago and wasn't impressed with it, but once I saw the official high res press release, I wanted the set. I don't like to see the grainy, blurry images that are leaked, they do the product a disservice. What I have noticed about the new city train, is it has the same design on its roof as the High Speed Train 60051 in it has a 1x2 cheese slope next to the RI receiver. The design looks exactly the same. So my thinking is the receiver is exactly the same old receiver - IR. My only glimmer of hope is a new receiver that is Bluetooth or WIFI and is build in exactly the same form factor, to make it interchangeable with old sets. But my hopes for this are running low. 5. Fantastic, such a clean looking model. I too would love to see more of the Mechanism.
  6. When I first watched that video, it gave me the creeps. I do like the way he treated the ears thou, cool way of explaining how they work on a MF head. My mate Ryan did a better job IMHO Mr Brick by Stephen, on Flickr

  8. What you have planned is very large and will take a long time to set up if you are going to assemble it on site.
  9. The biggest bit of advice I can give is, make sure the tables you use, build, will fit through a door frame. The first tables i made were in 32x32 stud base plates, 4 plates by 5, that size will not fit though a door, I am slowly changing to 3 plates by 9,that works out at 765mm by 2295mm
  10. I dont use the old road base plates because my city is modular based so I dont think they go with the modular style, so I brick build my roads. To me the road base types belong with the clasic town type of layout.
  11. I called mine "Kendallshire" after my wife and I's family names, Kendall and Derbyshire. She builds many of the buildings "Modulars" and I build the roads, vechiles, trains ect
  12. 9V metal track and motors are out of production, Power functions and plastic track is the current in production Lego standard.
  13. If you have the room, you could try putting up a marquee over the layout, I used that at my show when I was running my Technic models.
  14. I noted that the Melbourne Train LUG used a type of polystyrene ontop of their tables, this I belive is to stop the base plates moving durring trainsport.

  16. Wow, that looks amazing. Nice job Barduck, I particually like the detailing on the sides of the trucks.
  17. Looking good, is the items hanging on the display ment to be plumbing supplies
  18. We went to California Legoland in Jan 2010, having been to Bullund in 2006, we through the California one was very tied as well. We latter found out that the models there, being a very sunny location, are sprayed with a protective coating, this coating is sand blasted ( using walnut shells) every now and then. I also noted that a lot of the trucks, cars and trains were not running as well.
  19. Australia is having the same problem.
  20. Lego only every released ones for duplo, but most people use this part to build one. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=55767 Here is some instructions for one, http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/123434
  21. I had this exacte same problem last night, in the end it was the fact that the new LA's where new and screwed up all the way. I disconected each one, (pull out the long drive axel) and turn the LA by hand to free it up and get it moving, reconect the drive axil, then drive it up and down with the motor, then add in the next out rigger to the system, slowly freeing up and connecting one at a time. It is a bad design that struggles to drive all that friction through the system. Good starting piont for MODing
  22. I have always used Mod for this type of thing
  23. The problrm is, your not thinking thinking fourth-dimensionally :-)
  24. This is the table layout my wife Joanna and I did for our show Bricktober - Perth 2014 Enjoy IMG_0520 by Technic70s, on Flickr DSC_9728 by Technic70s, on Flickr DSC_9380 by Technic70s, on Flickr DSC_9729 by Technic70s, on Flickr More photos https://www.flickr.c...57649410876596/
  25. Thanks for the comments all. The tracks are lifted off the base plates by one plate, this way to allow the track to be attached and still allow the curves to work. So the water can just flow under the track. It was just a quick way to lay track for the diorama quickly, we were running out of time to do anything like ballasted track with is what I like to do usually.
