Speaking of Russian BIONICLE sites, the Nickelodeon subsite from the winter has updated with some summer stuff. Mostly just some cool graphics for now, although there might be more if you log in, I haven't discovered that yet.

Wow that listing was sketchy as hell. "Bid or not just please don't ask questions"? I feel sorry for whoever got suckered into paying for that. That's how I felt about both Slicer and Pohatu; solid, but uninspired. Slicer definitely feels like he's onto something, but not quite there, even though he showcases the gearbox versatility well enough. Pohatu does it well, just not as well as everybody else (except for Lewa who is awful).

Yeah, those "Bohrok" were kinda fun in their own way. But unfortunately, lists seem to be the way to go. And sometimes they can actually be "accurate", whether through lucky guessing or decent pattern recognition or some combination of both. People want to believe, and others enjoy being believed. The way of things, sadly.

Two weeks early, eh? Not so bad I guess. Definitely some cool looking figures, but I'm waiting to see the big guys myself.

Is that worst to best, or best to worst? Hard to get a bead on any consensus these days =P

I actually think the references to the old character aren't too overblown, which I appreciate. Like, this Lewa is way more snarky, although the individualism is on point. Damn that he just got his mask stolen like that, though. And you see his face! So crazy.

I'm not mad because I agree with him. Once leaks are out it's kind of hard to avoid talking about them in some capacity, but to actively go looking for them is pretty annoying. Good on the store owner for not wanting to damage the brand, and doing his part to keep line sales from dropping.

So a budget limit of 30 bucks, basically? I wonder if the Star Wars constraction sets could apply to that. (or I could actually pay for the sets, which I have mostly avoided thus far =P)

Right, that's the one I meant; it's basically the only new CG of the winter sets that we've at all gotten since their debut. It was more of an ironic comment on how Tahu gets all the love yet again =P. It's also in the back of the instruction booklets of the summer sets (which reminds me, I should upload that to the wiki...).

I love how most of that is the stock set photos, only Tahu got a new CG pose.

Basher is my personal favorite, with the fun "hugging" feature. They're all pretty great though.

Could happen in the second upcoming chapter book, and the magazine implied that LoSS was still alive anyway.

It's the smashed boxes combined with the "well now what do I do with it?" factor. I keep the boxes around out of habit, but they don't serve any purpose once you're done, which is a disappointment; if they could, say, be turned into scenery (like the golden Skull mask) then that could be a neat adaptation. Amusingly, all of my boxes so far have come FROM Lego; obviously international shipping is never foolproof, but there's a certain amount of irony to it.

I'm sure they could come up with something new, but I just don't want these exact same boxes reused, since they were flimsy and didn't survive shipping particularly well. The design was cool, the materials were sub-par. But since we got three years of bags for HF, I should brace myself for disappointment there...

I'm glad Tahu and Kopaka haven't resolved their differences just yet. Not that I mind Tahu being the leader in general, but the conflict was obviously unresolved after Ep9, so it would have been a shame to see that just swept under the rug in favor of what's "normal".

I kinda liked the bags, but even if I didn't, I'd gladly take them over the boxes we got this year. So fragile and useless. Hopefully we get something more usable next year.

Not necessarily ride them all in a typical fashion, but at least integrate them more than just stealing their weapons and leaving hem defenseless, which is what we got this year =P. Poor CGI is one thing, but the only way to actually affix them (the way you mentioned) often hinders head poseability (and in some cases can't attach at all), which defeats the whole purpose anyway. If you're going to include a gimmick, make it functional is all I ask. My issue is that it doesn't really show what the spiders can do, aside from overwhelm in sheer numbers, so there's nothing that shows why they should be so threatening. I'm sure the upcoming media will do a good job, since it has time and space to let these moments impact; the second novel's title is "Revenge of the Skull Spiders", so I have a pretty good feeling about that =P. But just where we are now, the Skull Spiders haven't been a particularly imposing villain, so I'm hoping they take the good aspects of the gimmick (conflict in a box, compatability with the sets) and improve upon them for the next wave.

Right, but creating or setting an atmosphere that promotes that kind of play is paramount, especially in a story driven line like BIONICLE. Hero Factory actually did a good job of establishing the Brains as a creepy kind of enemy, right up until the actual episode, which made them something of a joke. Right now, BIONICLE seems to have the reverse issue, where the Skull Spiders don't seem very intimidating (especially given their poor affixation to most of the sets anyway), but which can be redeemed through good examples of how they are a threat. The Bohrok did a good job of both; you understood from the sets how these things were dangerous, and the story reinforced that through one of the scariest moments of the original line, when Lewa stumbles upon his entire village with Krana on their faces. Or what if the Toa give their extra armor to the creatures and then RIDE them yes this should be a thing

I'd be okay with that since it was basically wasted here anyway. No real sense of threat, unlike the Krana, who we saw take out a whole village. I haven't read much of the book excerpts, though, and there's always the second novel.

I could easily see these as species names; I'm actually not sure which I'd prefer, although given the generic "Skull Creatures" we've seen already, you're right in that it's likely the former. I'm just hoping the Toa share a few commonalities beyond just being Toa; obviously it seems we're keeping the elemental themes (hooray!) but like what Chima did and use certain colors and pieces to identify them as belonging to a certain faction would be nice. Then again, Umurak aside, we don't know exactly how the villains play into this either, so maybe he's less of a LOSS type and more of a completely different third party. Either way, the names have all been wonderful so far.

Neat finds. Uniter? Absolutely LOVE that as a title (although I'll probably have to stop using Masters as their team name, which'll make Aanchir happy =P). Glad they're not dropping that concept from the series, regardless. And actual names! Cool.

I like the test video, but you can already see where there would have been problems with a full web series. 3D modeling is way more intensive, and if you think it looks cheap now (I don't really think it does, but whatever) then this would have just crushed people. Also, their count is 19 episodes total... so I'm assuming they don't count the trailers, but do count The Legend, so there's going to be a further 9 episodes like in season 1.

I think it's more that the elements were considered more powerful than all of these other ability types (so a Mask of Fire is inherently stronger/more valued than a Mask of Speed). So you can have a mask made out of basically anything, but when you start combining the elements themselves, that's a no-no. Of course, this is probably wildly overthinking it anyway, since we're unlikely to get so in-depth.

I might have to try that when I can get some spares. I actually like the color combination (one of the few good things about Lewa, who is otherwise very disappointing...) but given how all of the other sets work, including the villains, the color just doesn't make any sense.
