Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming

"Excellent. That resolves that." the strategist mumbled to himself. "Johon, pass Aquos your smelling salts. Let's make this a bit more interesting." For future reference, does the Lucky Chant also effect Punii? ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Sorry for the Double post, but I forgot to ask: Do Minstrel's songs function like an Evoker's summon, the singing being passive with an uphold cost of 1 ether, or must they be actively re-sung each turn? (ie: can I have Aquos sing Nanny's lullaby for a second turn and attack?) ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Oh, Certainly. It's now my wit (and my party's) against yours... A figurative game of chess... We'll see who gets to Engame first, now won't we?! (I'll post the battle order in an our or two. Sorry.) ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"Fine." he stated glumly. "Do what you must... but I know the independent, kind, funny, wonderful young girl she once was is still there somewhere... under this new, foreign shell of hate and greed." he stated, hopefully. "I know she must have felt something when she stabbed me and left me here. I don't want her back. What she did to me is inexcusable... But I can't bare to think that she's dead." OoC: I'll send you off as soon as Karie states the Party's action. -

That's alright. I hope you enjoyed the twists and fights while you could stay. Due to the timed nature of the plot, I'll have Kintobor control your character's action, and I may give you an idle piece of dialogue here or there. I understand how life can be chaotic, and don't go out of your way to check in. I hope your real-life chaos resolves itself well. "I-I.... I don't want her to die." The sad man looked down at his wounded side. "Even now, I don't want her to die." -

"You are correct. As soon as Fleur realized you killed Marty, she suspected that the Po Brothers, and by extension, Father Caine, would soon be incapacitated. I don't know how, but she knew you were lying the second you called yourself Marty's assistant, and she sent me to report to the Shadeaux that we'd be supplying them with 6,000 gold worth of Cloth, not the 11,000 that we would have had, had Father Caine contributed his share of the gold. You have certainly crippled her plan already. Marty too was going to bring 4,000 gold to the table. She'll only be getting a third of what she intended. We would have left before four, but she had to wait for the Clothes-Guild-Head to accomplish his part in the plan: to announce the Hinckwell plot to the other Guild-Heads at the Guild meeting today. By doing so he provided credibility to the previously-heard rumour, causing panic in the Cloth-Market motivating it to sell at stupidly low prices." -
Yes, Endgame, let us engage in glorious battle! Oh, and I just remembered, I have bragging rights for winning the Rap Battle and then winning the battle with Eidoloin. I have to say, the strategic possibilities of this battle have me very excited. I simply adore the Minstrel, and was planning for my second character to be one, but now I'm thinking about somehow fitting Sylph into the role. If only it were called battle-field manipulator instead of being a bard. Perhaps Sylph could play the bagpipes. Looks like someone's a sore loser! You say that as a joke, but... ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"Shut-up and die abomination." barked Sylph. "Aquos, I'm afraid we may have started off on the wrong... appendage. Glad to have someone of your talents on board. Sing this monster to sleep! Fiends, Rome, Countrymen, we're going to want to chop off his claws as quickly as humanly/proggly possible. Unfortunately, that includes one of the enemies that can fall asleep. Fortunately, it can't throw bombs back if it's sleeping (of course it'll wake up after that, but as long as Aquos sings it back to sleep that round, we'll be OK.) Any poison would be fine, and I'll nurture anyone who contracts it, but ultimately somewhat futile considering that the QM opponents can be healed. " Punii: Make Jellies Sylph: Frail Claw A, BR Sylph: Frail Tail, BR Alex: Reggie, BR Johon: Claw A, BR Hal: Blue, BR Rome: Claw A, BR Galen: Staff, BR Galen: Tail, BR Elgar: Claw A, BR Aquos: Nanny's Lulliby -

"The ship is named Fortune's Mistress, but you can't miss it. It'll be the only ship attempting to leave the harbour." He stated, a grim look in his eyes. "It's suicide to sail in this weather." -

"She's going to Eubric to sell the cloth to the Shadeaux. I made the arrangements for her myself in the mage's district by Z-Mail. Her ship leaves at Five. After that time you won't be able to reach her. There's a storm brewing and she picked the only captain mad enough to sail it. Once she gets to Eubric, provided she doesn't capsize, she'll be long gone." OoC: You'll observe, I never referred to Abe as a "he" in the narration. That's how you do a gender-reveal right! -

"Fleur is Abe the Accountant." Stated the wounded man finally. His eyes were grey and stormy. He sat up and moved to a dryer patch of ground. fortunately the alley had an overhang protecting the party from the pouring rain. "She ran by that name back then too. I guess I should explain a little better, because I know you'll want to find her...." He started, his eyes getting hazy as he remembered. "We met 10 years ago in Drandora Port. She was a young con artist and business woman, the daughter of exiled royalty who abandoned her parents riches to make her own way in the world. I was a traveling merchant (as I am now), but a good bit younger... About 18, I'd think. She was a year younger." "She co-managed a small market stall (among other things) and I'd visit whenever I was in town. Eventually we entered into a partnership... And after a while we became... more than that. My life's goal had been to own a shop, and her life's goal was independence and adventure. We made a great team. For three years, we traveled the world. We finally settled down in Brendenton, making good friends with the Lords, Fleur going by the name of Abe for credibility. She was blessed with a rather androgynous face and boyish voice and made a very convincing man." "We made deals and for a while, profited." "After three years we decided to marry and settle in Brendenton. Before we did so, though, I had to take one more trip to the Upper Kingdoms to bid farewell to my old contacts and call in all of my favors. 'but on my way back, in a frontier kingdom, i was ambushed by an Orc raiding party." "The bandits took me to their chief, a disagreeable man who called himself the Bone King." "I was forced to work for them along with several other prisoners for 5 years. Fortunately I was able to arrange a deal with the Bone King by calling in my last favor from an old friend. I managed to escape the Orc Chiefdom." "I returned to civilization after five years of living with the Orcs. I made it to Duplova, from where I was able to get a wagon and a horse. That's where I met Yoro. She was... Well, she needed a traveling companion, and I obliged." "I longed to return to my one love, Fleur, but when I finally got back, a week ago, I didn't realize how she'd changed." "She was trapped in a loveless political marriage. Her husband was an abusive business man, and an adulterer, who only loved money. He treated her like she was nothing but a possession. But she was the real power behind the man. She whispered business plans in the man's ear, and as a result, he profited, and she profited through him. But she was a smart woman. She made her own business arrangements. She took over the church's financing, and kept the church in the black." "However in her despair at my loss, she turned to hatred, envy, and greed. When I returned, she was not the woman I fell in love with, and I was not the man she remembered either. When I arrived, I wanted to escape with her. She had a plan that she'd been working on for quite some time, and with my arrival, she set it into motion. She was planning to use the current cloth depression and the Hinckwell's monopoly to buy cloth at the lowest possible price and sell it to the Shadeaux for immense returns. I confronted her about her overly ambitious, and heartless plan. I told her that she could either have me or the money." "She chose the money." "She took my 1000 gold, adding it to her 5000 she made weapons trade and left me to die." "And she can have it." OoC: Damnit! The Black cloak should be on top. -

*Cracks knuckles* Lovely. A few Questions about Minstrel (my favorite prestige class ) before I start destroying your carefully-thought-through enemies. Do 'Ballad of Bravery,' 'Rapid March,' and 'Lucky Chant' stack with Encouraged, Hastened, and Lucky? It would seem that way from the wording of the specials. (Ie: It says everything but encouraged, hastened, and lucky.) Does this make me the first player to play a Minstrel? ~Insectoid Aristocrat
