LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Um, maybe for some people, but I don't think so. I like the shuttle. I like it as is. I like the lime speeder and the Barc is a Barc but I get why it's there and that's fine. A better shuttle isn't going to smooth over serious issues (in my eyes) with figures of the main characters of the show. They could come with the most fantastic UCS-scale Kamino model that comes with the first ever Kaminoans and they'd still be just as flawed as they currently are. It's a good thing they spend a lot of time with their helmets off, though. I could just forget about the helmet altogether. -

No, one more new mould to share between Hunter, Echo and Crosshair would have worked in my opinion. Not perfect but a lot better than the P2 helmet. It's frustrating in light of all of the wonderful, accurate, detailed moulds that have been made over the past few years for all sort of minor characters and one-scene troopers/characters. Yes, I get that movie-tied waves get bigger budgets. Yes, I get that LEGO is going off of provided art and doesn't know how prominent something will of won't be in the movie. However, when it's come to prominent animated characters who have a whole lot of screen time (Ahsoka and 3/5 of the Bad Batch), LEGO goes "eh good enough, we'll print on existing pieces and if you squint it'll look right". Not literally, but that's what it feels like. -

I don't know how you define memorable scenes. The wedding, the meeting with Xenophilius, the Ministry break-in, Godric's Hollow, scenes at Malfoy Manor, and scenes at and around Shell Cottage are all very memorable and distinct scenes to me in addition to Gringotts and the Battle of Hogwarts. I warrant that not all of those may make good LEGO sets, but some would. The only problem is that LEGO likes to always make some Hogwarts sets, and the majority of the additional memorable scenes in OotP (Grimmauld Place, Ministry) and DH (mentioned above) do not take place at Hogwarts. Totally, and I'll always be happy and content with what LEGO did from 2018-2020, and glad for people that really dig the new modular iteration. -

And add even more money to spend on these? No thanks. Customs aren't my interest. If it's a character I really care about that LEGO hasn't done quite right, like Ahsoka, I suck it up and get LEGO's anyway. If it's characters I care less about that LEGO hasn't done right, I'll skip them. -

I may be a broken record but it's the P2 helmets that kill these minifigures for me. They're simply wrong. The other problems are that Tech's helmet is comically large and Echo's implant that wraps around his head is smushed into the back of his head. However, if those two problems remained and the P2 helmets were replaced with another new mould, I'd probably want these. As it is, all of the new stuff is great but when the key look of three out of five characters is wrong, that's not good enough. -

I've pulled out just a few quotes here to which I have some differing opinions. Overall I agree that this wave packs in more total value for money than the 2018 Hogwarts sets, with more wonderful new creatures and more specific, detailed memorable scenes recreated. However, given I'm displaying the sets (minus Quidditch Lesson still) myself, I question how enjoyable it is as a Hogwarts display. It looks pretty bad from the outside, and while the inside is a good canvas for setting up various contained scenes, it isn't cohesive at all. It's a great thing for play, but awkward for display from either side because it's not a "whole"; it's many individual scenes contained in variously sized boxes. Comparing 2018 Hogwarts to 2021 Hogwarts, the minifigure selections have nearly equal strengths and weakness though I lean towards 2018. The 2021 selection of students is objectively stronger, but it's missing key adults like Hagrid, Snape, Filch and McGonagall (in Hogsmeade but we're talking about Hogwarts sets here) who featured very heavily in books one and two. As someone who has most '18-'20 sets, I love that the '21 ones aren't retreading all of the characters and providing new ones instead, but if the '21 sets were your only ones you'd be missing most of the important adults, exchanged for Hooch (who has 1.5 important scenes) and Sinistra (who you could easily never notice was there at all). Given the above, how complete of an experience these sets provide is highly tied to what sort of experience you're after. Solely for play, better experience hands down. For display, to my taste the 2018 Hogwarts sets still take the edge. For creatures and more individual scene builds, 2021. For something highly evocative of the Hogwarts in the films, 2018. -

The number one rule of "people with info" is guilty until proven innocent, aka faking it until proven reliable, aka lying until proven truthful. One of the sets is certainly real. Time will tell whether the picture of the New Asgard set is real too. Don't link to it anyway. -

A movie is as much a one-off special as a one-off Disney+ show these days . They hype around Disney+ Star Wars and Boba Fett is real. If LEGO wasn't doing this whole wave of non-film content, and hadn't made the previous Mandalorian sets, I'd say sure, LEGO will ignore the hype and do random stuff. But I think that's changing. At least one BoBF set, whether to coincide with the series or be released the following spring/summer, feels like a strong given. -

Given LEGO's (upcoming) product line support of the Marvel Disney+ shows and the lack of other Star Wars content, I think it's a very very good bet to hold out for Book of Boba Fett sets for both Boba and Fennec. Even if they did just one set for the show, it would include those two figures. -

Australia may be in a lucky position because we DO always get 20-25% sales (and some stores price the sets below LEGO's RRP to begin with), but US folks have to understand that a 20% off sale in Australia usually only brings the price down to full US RRP (taking the typical exchange rate into account). The other issue here besides pricing is supply, though. In the US you can still readily purchase the 501st set, at a discount to boot. In Australia, that set disappeared in about a month from release and has never been restocked. Same with the AAT. The AAT had two major selling points: a cool new mass-able clone, and a cool new Ahsoka, the first in years. Given LEGO's recent record on producing material from the animated shows, there was no reason to think either of those figures would ever appear again, so it's understandable why that set got snatched up to the extent it did. Those two figures alone were extremely desirable to fans, resellers looking to sell just the figures in the shorter term, and resellers looking to hold on to the whole set and sell it later. Luckily for us fans, LEGO is actually doing more animated stuff (at least for now), and we get the Ahsoka again, but there was no way to know that would happen when the AAT came out. As for the Mandalorian Fighter, I think it will be difficult to acquire (in Australia) at first, but none of those characters are fan favourites to the same extent as Ahsoka, and the AAT had the bonus of being a vehicle that was desirable to mass too. -

I don't know whether it's fake or not, but the style of it actually makes sense for the price point. At $30 they wouldn't do a whole house, or it would be made entirely of big panels and look very bland so that there's parts budget left for the inside. More of a living room diorama makes sense, even if it wasn't what I was expecting. -

Haven't seen anyone else say it, but since LEGO has shown they are capable of wraparound head printing (like on Lobot), it's pretty lame how they've fudged Echo's cybernetic bit that goes over his ears and just printed it on the back of his head. The imperfections in the Bad Batch figures make it easier to want to skip that set. I have been enjoying the show though I wouldn't say I "care" about the characters, and I actually like the main build in the set, so I'm inclined to want it. But, the fact that they didn't make a new top fin-less helmet mould to share between Echo, Hunter and Crosshair, and Echo's head printing letdown makes it easier to decide to pass in favour of the Mandalorian fighter, Armory and maybe even Slave I. When budget is tight, you have to make tough decisions. -

Though possibly too textured, this new hairpiece from City Wildlife/Eternals seems like a fairly decent fit. -
Phoebe's hair is for sale in brown on Bricks & Pieces, but currently in no known set. This could lend additional credence to this rumour.

Ok, enough of this discussion about a particular person. It is, most certainly, OFF TOPIC now. In this instance, Mandr was brought up in the context of a discussion about upcoming sets that he ran campaigns to influence. That was quite relevant. Other people continued to discuss other new things coming at the same time. Making a long post just about him (pro or against) simply derails the topic. Use the report button if you think someone has been out of line. MODs may not always agree though, and sometimes simply do nothing. -

Yeah - the hair is really wrong. Her headband thing covers the front of her hair, not the other way around with her hair covering over her headband. Just like Ahsoka's head goes forehead, headband, lekku - not forhead, lekku start, dinky headband print, lekku continue. You said yourself why (though he is not an "idiot" and I think it's more the complaining and pettiness that bother people). Just a reminder to everyone that Mandr is on this forum and interacts here sometimes. Bear in mind he's a person too - not some celebrity in Hollywood you're never going to interact with (though they too are people). What actually irks me more than simply his own complaints and trolling is that his fanbase takes those complaints and goes and parrots them everywhere like on IG, etc. But he would know that, and is influencing them to do that, and thereby bears some of the responsibility. -

Only the horns would be dual-moulded into the helmet, not the visor. Gar Saxon's horns and helmet look like the same colour to me, but that doesn't mean they aren't dual moulded, especially if the horns are a slightly different plastic. The other possibility is that it's not dual moulded and the Armorer has a paint application on hers. LEGO used to do paint applications that comprehensive sometimes before they started leaning more towards dual-moulding in these situations. -

It does seem like their hands were tied by their own colour palette. The printing and mould colour palette are one and the same, and dark green is LEGO's darkest green. It's the best match for Boba's repainted armour, and in the show his chest armour and helmet are clearly the same colour, but if LEGO went with dark green for the helmet then they would have had to use black for the cheeks. Even regular green would have been too bright for the armour and helmet. The two things some of these have in common with what customs tend to do are continue printing from the torso over the hips, and arm printing. However, the majority of these figures still lack enough crazy minute printing and other features to seem like customs to me! Even if I don't get many of these sets, this year is feeling as exciting as 2011 to me. That year had so much good Star Wars stuff - new characters and moulds, great updates to characters, some new ships and properly redone one. That was a great year. -

After spending even more time with the 2021 Hogwarts sets (besides Flying Lesson which I still haven't gotten) by setting up an interior-focused display and also rearranging my 2018-20 exterior-focused display, I've got to say.... I still like the 2018-20 ones SO much more. The new Hogwarts sets are good toys to be sure and I'm sure the interiors play better than the older ones given their size, but those '18-'20 sets are art: gorgeous, detailed Hogwarts sections. I'm sad we didn't get just one more for the Bell Towers with a Battle of Hogwarts theme. Also seeing more people's videos and pictures of the exteriors of these new sets, they really look like quite an ugly hodgepodge. -

Personally I think the chances are near total zero. I've seen people in here say that LEGO isn't shy to update figures, but I haven't seen many examples of them updating figures in quick succession, except little unnecessary print updates. They've made their choice with Hunter's hair piece, and I think they'll stick with it - if there are any more Bad Batch sets at all (which doesn't seem like a given to me anyway). -

Those Armory figures look great, though the Armorer herself does seem like she's lacking a little bulk without any fur/cape. A fur piece like those Solo troopers have would've been great. From the catalogue images, it still looks like Mando isn't going to have a face in these sets, which is a shame. Now that we've seen it multiple times, it's not like it's a secret any more.
