LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Ah ok. I might try that out. Though like I said, I don't think the gap kills the model by any means, it just feels like LEGO being like "meh good enough". -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 24. Rumors and discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wouldn't read that much into it. Hasn't January been the time for unlicensed series for a while now? It's only Series 23 that is a fluke so far. I think it's totally possible that LEGO was working on something licensed for this year but the property got delayed or cancelled, or they just wanted to do an extra unlicensed series to sort of celebrate the 90th anniversary. Next year might go back to the previous pattern. -

I'm talking about in person. Which two plates get rid of the gap? I couldn't get the canopy to angle perfectly flush with the sides (though without changing anything on the model). -

IMO it's good enough to appear in a display with other stuff for a whole battle scene, which is how I have it now. The model isn't great with the very flat sides, as pretty much every review has pointed out, but it's fine as one thing amongst others. Admittedly it might look better or the gap might be less noticeable with the stickers applied, which I haven't done because I'd like the option of disassembling it for parts at some stage. -

I'm super glad I picked up the Fighter Tank when I saw it in the US because the figures are just that good, but does the unsightly gap between the white canopy and the sides bug anyone else ideologically? It reeks of a designer going "hey, I have a neat idea for the front, what about recolouring that canopy in white?", then playing around with it for a while and finding it wasn't a perfect fit, but someone saying "screw it, we've spent enough time on it, release it as is and nobody will care". Because yeah it seems like a NPU, but then doesn't actually 100% work and I'm sure LEGO knows that. -
Yes you can definitely share it once you have posted your entry topic(s) here! If you post on Instagram, appreciate if you tag us, though it's not a requirement. I don't know if all of the different software available does that easily and I don't think we've made that a requirement before even in contests that had combined digital and physical builds competing together. All I'll say is: please abide by the rules. The fun of the contest is building some cool LEGO-like sets, not trying to cheat and bend rules. If somebody accidentally or willfully uses some internal unseen parts that don't exist in that particular colour, ok. If your MOC has visible parts in colours that they don't come in, it should be fairly obvious. EB staff know our LEGO and will be giving everything a good looking over.

I don't think Wookiee vehicles are all that unlikely. Everyone likes a droid attack on the Wookiees after all. It would be an ideal multiple-vehicle set with both main Wookiee vehicles pitted against a tank droid, though LEGO Star Wars doesn't seem to do that sort of thing very much. They do like to semi regularly revisit Kashyyyk though. An air taxi seems pretty unlikely though. The one Cad Bane set might be the only Coruscant vehicle we ever get. I feel as though their current "smattering of everything" approach does leave the door open to some of the lesser done vehicles because they don't feel tied to releasing things in combination with other things. It's LEGO so you can always play out your own scenarios, but "in universe" they didn't feel the need to release a Jango Fett set to go along with Obi-Wan's starfighter, for example. Without being tied to releasing multiple sets that have a theme with each other, they could finally release one random Naboo set and say "here you go, Boss Nass". -

This is good and bad news. Good because maybe the cool new stuff will be for sale again. Bad because, oh my wallet! -

Fair enough. It's kind of the definition of a "for the figures" set anyway, and even was at the time. But hey, happy to have that Narcissa! -

Make that 10 days and one month for those of us Down Under. The last few series have all released a month late in Australia and New Zealand. -

I share some enthusiasm about the new Room of Requirement set but what do you mean "finally"? One of the very few Deathly Hallows sets ever was the $12 Forbidden Forest. Doesn't get cheaper than that! I think it's likely. They're calling it "Hogwarts Room of Requirement" and all of the sets starting with Hogwarts since the changeover to the new castle system have connected. -
I have come back with the answer, which is no custom decals or decorations. The intention of this contest is to be 100% purist, which means 100% existing parts only in colours and decorations for them that LEGO has produced, whether physical or digital. Very few LEGO themes I can think of rely heavily on a logo besides some of the space themes, and I suppose certain caste themes with their flags and shields, but if your build is strong, it won't be broken by a blank flag for instance.
-
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the questions. Up to this point the rules have said and I have previously answered that it's existing parts in existing colours only including the minifigures whether building physically or digitally. There are always going to be advantages and disadvantages to both ways of building. You could do the build digitally and the minifigures physically and edit them together in your photos if the particular software doesn't have enough variety of Minifigure parts available. I'll get back to everyone with an ultimate answer on custom decorations/decals in the Best Theme category.

The printed pieces from Ideas were historically available for purchase too. Letter tiles from the typewriter, continental tiles from the globe, etc. -

The #1 rule of the LEGO Star Wars line is to not follow logic. First it took actual fan lobbying to get them to make 501st. But they did it - yes! Ok, no Rex, but that's fine, it's a battle pack. Then they included just one 332nd clone in a set... alright, typical stingy LEGO. Next: Mace Windu's non-canon legion. Alright, at least LEGO is making different clones and they look cool, but still weird. Next: a lot of 212th and Cody. Yes, do this LEGO! Next: more 501st, random videogame specialists this time? Why? Any fan could say obviously, just make sets of different clones we actually see in stuff (with or without their commander depending on the size of set), and THEN circle back around to supplement them. And I think the fans would be right! Everybody likes different clones, and to have different corps. I'm sure these will be cool, and I'll probably buy a set to add to my clone collection, but where are our 327th Stat Corps or 21st Nova Corps or Wolfpack etc etc etc. Why do we need more random 501st before any of those. It's nothing new either of course. LEGO used to put random undesirable (or un-massable) clones in battle packs back at the heyday of battle packs too, like that one with a Horn Company clone and two Bomb Squad clones. Different clones always look cool, but come on. -

More off-topic posts have been made here since Nemo's direction above to stick to the LEGO. So I'll say it again: stick to LEGO! Or we'll have to start taking strong action. -
Yes, first they recently scrapped the whole "choosing between online and in store" thing and then quickly after they announced they were scrapping the necessity to redeem points for a coupon in advance at all, for in-store purchases anyway. Plus I read that they'll let you use any amount of points for any dollar amount off above $5. So if for example you have enough points for $12.57, you can get $12.57 off. I mean, it's still stupid that they changed points to be almost arbitrary amounts per dollar. 1 dollar used to be 1 point, 100 points was $5 off (as I recall). How simple was that?!
-
I've got to laugh that LEGO is FINALLY rolling the VIP rewards system back to the very sensible way in which it started. Earn points - redeem points at time of sale. Easy and simple. It was never a fantastic savings, but was a little reward for people that shopped directly with LEGO. They went and made it stupid and complicated and it took someone years to finally just change it back. Now it's "News" that hey, the system might finally make sense again.

Eurobricks member Robert8 has been posting tremendously cool and well-designed custom Minifigures Series for six years! We've missed Frontpaging many of them, and he has now brought the project to a close with Series Z and a milestone of 500 Minifigures. Check out Series Z below, and then go back to the beginning of his thread and pore over all of the fantastic details of each series. We'll miss seeing new ones!

Thanks! Glad you like it! I've seen lots of interesting set-like MOCs particularly on Instagram in recent years, so it's definitely a style of MOCing some people like to do. I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with for this! This contest is obviously just for fun and we don't want to be quite as rigid as LEGO's rules on Ideas, which is why we haven't gone into some sort of detailed list about those sorts of parameters. I'd like to think most AFOLs could look at a creation and say what is or isn't something LEGO itself might do, and that's the aim of this contest: create MOCs that look like possible real LEGO sets. In light of that: Yeah absolutely. Weapons are LEGO's bread and butter. For sure, fighting over resources including water is fine, but like you've said, it should be obvious that it isn't a total real world, real humans situation being portrayed. We're not bound by any external guidelines for this contest; Eurobricks has created the guidelines for the contest. Like I said, it should look and feel like a potentially real LEGO theme. Anybody trying too hard to push the boundaries of acceptable content within this contest is missing the point. The Entry Topic has now been created, and linked in the first post of this topic.
