Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 4 Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Exactly, the CW hasn't exactly built itself up on things that actually make sense. They basically do whatever is convenient, so if it's convenient to their entire story that Anakin can't sense Obi-Wan, they'll do it. -

Guys, I don't think we need the spoiler tags for this discussion. These aren't really spoilers, it's all speculation anyway. Nobody is going to come into this thread if they didn't already want to speculate or find out about future episodes. I personally see plenty of reason for him to look a little different. It would actually make it convincing that Anakin wouldn't recognize him. -
It's not quite that easy when he has a bright orange beard printed on his face.

On the topic of Yoda, there's really nothing that can be done with making some kind of new mould overall for figures, which I for one hope LEGO doesn't do. Minifigures have standardized proportions, and that's fine by me. Of course Chewie should be considerably taller than Han, Luke, and Leia, Yoda should be really short, R2 shouldn't be so big… but that's how it is. I really don't see it as a problem. On Obi-Wan, I completely agree (and have said as much in one, if not more, reviews). Obi-Wan in the films has brown hair, period. It may look lighter in some shots, but it's not at all LEGO's dark orange. For some reason, the SW people themselves think Obi's hair is orange, as evidenced in both CW shows. But still, I think regular reddish-brown is the right color for Obi-Wan.

LEGO Superheroes 2012 Rumours & Discussion

You know, I'm contradicting myself a little bit here, but I do agree with what you're saying. The mouths looking the same isn't bad per se, since the characters still look different, but it is sad that they all have the same expression. LEGO doesn't have to do this, either, since they're still capable of making distinctive expressions (look at some of the recent HP figures), and it just seems sort of like a lack of creativity to make all the girls with the same basic expression. It doesn't make them all look like the same figure, but it does keep them from having an added layer of distinctive personalities (although to be fair, since they all have had many different portrayals over time, it may be harder to really create a certain expression for a distinctive personality for each) -

Don't you think that 'new bounty hunter' is Obi-Wan? That's what it seemed like to me. And yes, I know in the trailer it looks like the bounty hunter shoots Obi-Wan, but I'm still thinking it's him. I usually get this type of thing wrong, though. -

If you're looking for disappointment in recycling, just look at the Tamina/Leia and Hermione/Padme recycles. Those are really bad. A similar style of mouth, in my opinion, isn't so bad. Each face still looks somewhat distinct. Of course, LEGO did actually have more variety in licensed figures a few years ago, but they seemed not to care about making face designs really cute looking back then (just look at the old Poison Ivy or Umbridge minifigures). I do wish they would go back to that to some extent, but I don't think there's much of an issue with the mouths being of a similar shape. -
Awesome work Penguin! I love the colors especially, you made great choices for all of the different elements and the different pinks and purples work well together. The scenes are all really funny as well. The one element I don't completely love is the stickering. The stickers work on the walls and in the fireplace, but in some instances when you've used them over multiple pieces don't look so good. The clock sticker especially, over the brick and cheese slopes, doesn't work very well in my mind.

Uh… are you asking about bangs? Bangs are the hair that cover up the forehead.

Very true. We may only see the Spider-Man and Wolverine sets. I recall that almost all of the Toy Story 3 sets were not at the NY Toy Fair in order to not give away the film. -

Even if we'd seen pictures, they would probably have been preliminary and blurry, meaning you wouldn't be able to see the little details in the minifigures anyway. I'm guessing we won't see clear official pictures until very close to the release date, owing to the fact that some of these sets will contain some sort of spoilers for the Avengers film. When LEGO sets contain spoilers, LEGO tends to try to keep them mum until just before the set release. -

Last year Brickset had a report I believe, and I think FBTB might be going this year. You can bet that both of those know what they are talking about, for the most part. -

London Toy Fair is generally very closed to photography. I recall only one time in the last five-ish years that somebody actually got some photos. However, there will be reports about what is there, which will probably have information regarding minifigures in sets and the like. -

Oh, I think you know what I meant. I meant in the actual wave of sets, not counting promotional figures. And yes, Wonder Woman is her own comics, but it's not like there is an entire set from her comics. Marvel, on the other hand, has separate sets from two comics and sets from a film. -

Why is there this notion that the two brands have to be made completely even? We already know that they want be by the mere sources of material; while DC had only two different comics portrayed, Marvel has two comics and a film. That's 'uneven' right there. I think it's likely to get a Bruce Banner figure, but it also could depend on how important of a character Bruce himself is while he's not being the Hulk. A transforming feature for a character as big as Hulk, though, seems to me quite unlikely. -

I'm not sure what you mean by a Nightwing set; it's possible Nightwing would be included a set sometime, but probably not have a complete set of his own. I believe the summer wave is supposed to have TDKR sets, which would mean no Nightwing then, but we'll see. -
I find this art to be pretty pretentious. It's not that the images are bad, but they're just basic, and so to pass this off as some sort of high art with a message is just ridiculous. And trying to sell it like that; terrible. As someone mentioned, this pales in comparison to Avanaut's work, which, in its beauty, has much more impact and emotional resonance.

Review: 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase
Clone OPatra replied to Masked Builder's topic in LEGO Licensed
Great review, but it doesn't sell me on this set. First, the minifigures. Batman's wings are a cool thing I suppose, and possibly useful in MOCs or photography, but I still don't like that this set doesn't come with a cape for him. I know the argument about different versions of a minifigure and the like, but to me Batman without his cape is just silly. Were you to take off the wings, it wouldn't look right at all, and if you could only afford this set that would be a big disappointment. I also do not like the printing on Catwoman's torso. I've had some issues with the way LEGO does female torsos these days, trying to force an extremely curvy image onto the geometric torso, and I think it's getting out of hand. The old Catwoman torso does not look unfeminine, and yet it did not have that printing in a different color to either side of the middle trying to make her look extremely curvacious. A little bit of that printing is alright, but on this one it looks like it's way too much. Secondly, I find the set itself a bit lacking. The motorcycle is ok, though I never liked the old one, but just having a little vignette of a street corner doesn't feel like much of a set to me. The boxes seem to be thrown in to add to the (still low) piece count without actually adding anything to the set. The old Bat dragster was not great, but it was nicely stylistic and had some good parts in it. It's nice to see some sets that aren't just vehicles, but a triangular slice of a street corner doesn't seem to cut it as real substance in a set. -
As I currently don't have access to almost the entirety of my minifigure collection, it's a bit difficult. I was trying to use an added boost creativity, but I understand how it may not be working out at all.

I was trying to mimic the actual scene a little, with the head having rolled away to the background, but I see what you mean. I figured everybody would know that the new Joker has Dooku's hair.
-
Do you care to explain what you don't like about it? I understand that my previous one was just some dumb wordplay, but I personally thought this one contained at least a shred of amusement. I doubt anybody is going to like this one either, but I just laugh whenever I look at the new scared Robin face, so… Villian Mixup I had a hard time coming up with the caption for this one, and thought about just leaving it caption-less. Would it be funnier that way?

I'm not sure that was necessarily the most helpful for somebody who's never heard of Watchmen Anyway, it's a reference to the graphic novel (and I guess movie) Watchmen.
-
It's just the background really. The red background both through and reflecting on the blue lightsaber blade makes it a bit purple-ish.

Thanks, I hope I have. My philosophy is even if all my comics are terrible and nobody likes them, oh well. I have fun making them. This one is not such a new idea: Rorschach

I know what they were trying to do, but I don't think they did it well at all. It took so long for all of those Mandos to land one by one that her saying it that late lost any cliche dramatic effect to me. If they had all dropped down at once and then she said it, maybe I would buy it.
