  1. The cannons roar as the Magpie drops even more dragons out of the sky as cannon balls from the opposing fort begin to batter the water on each side of the ship. Dozens of more drakes begin to dive toward the ship when a canister of grape shot explodes in the sky. South of Fort Freedom riding in on the tide, three ships flying the Bonaparte flag steadily sail towards the fort and the battle, cannons trained on the remainder of the wyvern horde. As the Magpie makes it's way into Fort Freedom's harbor, the heroes can see a multitude of sailors setting up barricades as Paladin and Town Watch forces rush to bolster the inner courtyard defenses where the gallows would be. The heroes prepare to deboard dropping gangplanks and readying ropes. As the heroes pull into the harbor, the cannoneers find themselves out of ammunition! Link to full map Hex Battle Notes: Because we are kicking off essentially a multi-stage battle, consumables with positive effects will only last 10 rounds. There are five areas: The Magpie, Harbor, Outer Wall, and Upper & Lower Inner Wall. Specials/AOE/etc. are limited in their effect to each individual area. A hero may spend their turn to move to another area, however in order to leave an area there must be more heroes than enemies in the area from which they are moving. Targeting enemies in an adjoining area has a 1/3 chance of success and requires a ranged attack.   5. Rushing back and forth across the ship, the heroes work as one dropping drakes, dragons, and wyverns from the sky into the ocean below. The cannons continue to decimate the larger beasts' ranks as the Magpie rushes ever closer to Fort Freedom. In the distance the heroes can see commotion on the walls of the fort and warning cannon shots start to drop in front of the ship. As winged creatures fall upon the deck of the ship, heroes with swords, clubs, maces and all manner of weaponry descend upon the monsters and the deck is soon stained black with dragon blood. Both minstrels sit exhausted as Heckz weaves a weather spell inducing a wave of high humidity to wash over everyone. The small mobs of hatchlings seem to waiver but are soon reinforced as even more drakelings swarm about the rigging and the sails. Further back the group can see another group of wyverns soon to join the fray. Battle Notes: Because we are kicking off essentially a multi-stage battle, consumables with positive effects will only last 10 rounds. If you'd like to reverse your decision to consume your consumables before this, let me know. When a cannon is manned, the players stats/positive effects are not taken into account while running the round, i.e. an encouraged character does not double a cannon's damage output Mages may spend an action to cast a wind spell (providing they have a Sapphire) at the cost of 1 ether to propel the ship an extra 100 feet. Enemies that are *In Flight* can only be hit with ranged weapons or spells. Once struck they will be *Grounded* and can be hit by melee weapons. At the end of the next round each *Grounded* creature has a 1/6 chance to become *In Flight* Enemies have a 1/6 chance to deal damage directly to the ship instead of a given hero or cannon AOE attacks will only effect the enemies on that side of the ship. New dragons will be added randomly during each subsequent round until the party reaches the Fort. Two of the dragons momentarily join the party under the Fay One's control as Arthur and Kiray prepare defensive maneuvers for the oncoming assault. The minstrels' melodies intertwine and play off each other in fantastical rhythms as the air grows damp from Heckz's weather wizardry. Torc rushes across the sky giving openings to all of the heroes before igniting the heavens with an inferno of fire and brimstone. Battle Notes: Because we are kicking off essentially a multi-stage battle, consumables with positive effects will only last 10 rounds.
