Heroica RPG - Quest #11: A Matter of Principle
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
Atramor's final search yields 1 Scoll of Sleep. The party enters the front of the shop where Shrooft accordingly rings up their purchase on the Guild's tab. With book in hand and still no sight of the missing lad, the Party heads off for the Glass Blowers. Scroll of Sleep x1 – Enables casting the sleep-effect to the target, forcing it to miss its turn for three rounds or until woken up by an attack. Each casting costs 1 ether. Usable only by mages and clerics. Party Leader, how will the spoils be divided? The party is greeted upon their arrival to the shop by a stout middle aged Werehound with a very full beard. "Hello my good sirs. What brings you to my humble workshop, can I interest you in one of these Glass Daggers? Perhaps a magnifying glass?" What will the Party do? QM Note: If any of the Party wishes to stop at only the new shop in the market place, they may do so at this time. They must however, do so before posting in this thread again. -
No problem soccerkid6, I've already talked with volcanicpanik about this, if the party is enroute to a location, they may have the opportunity to stop at the new magic shop, but only there, not at any of the other businesses. Realistically though, the quest should be finished in less than a month's time, so you should be able to make it to the market before the new stand closes. Also, as I mentioned earlier, if the party should so chose they can always revisit any of the previous shops after they've finished at one business.

Elgar draws an arrow from his quiver, but is only able to take aim at the rushing crate mimic, and thus his shot only chips off a piece of the monster's rough exterior. William, eager to improve from his last battle, boldly nocks and fires off three shafts in quick sucession striking Elgar's crate, the bat, and the chest mimic. Atramor, swinging his chain expertly, deals the death blow to the sneaky chest mimic, snapping it's lid completly off, in essence breaking it's jaw and killing it. QM Note: Remember, if you decide to change your original action in a battle (i.e. your target for example), I would greatly appreciate it if you did so by just adding another post instead of editting your original one, though your clarification volcanicpanik helped me spot it. Thanks. -
Heroica RPG - Quest #11: A Matter of Principle

After dividing the loot, Atramor walks over to the chest and inserts the key. The chest accordingly eats the key, much to the rogue's surprise. A rustling is heard among the sheaves of paper as the silver studded crate and the overturned tub begin to advance on the party revealing gaping mouths filled with teeth. A bat swoops down out of nowhere and is joined by a grey rat. The chest opens wide it's gaping jaws and prepares to attack the party. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! Glorfindel's search of the gold studded crate yields a Grand Potion. Grand Potion x1 – Restores 25 health to the target. Meanwhile, Atramor investigates the silver studded crate but finds that it appears to be nailed shut. Elgar however looks through the silver studded barrel and finds another 10 Gold and 1 key. 10 Gold Party Leader, how will the spoils be divided? -

Atramor attempts to pick the lock, however his lockpicking tools find no mechanism to unlock within the keyhole. QM Note: Jedi Master Brick, which barrel? They are distinctly marked. -
Masked Builder, Sirius Black's last hit would have done only 5 damage instead of 6, since he got a critical hit (WPx2+level=3x2+4=10) that would have been divided in two since he attacked from the back row and yes, where is that lucky die when you need it.

Atramor wades through the scraps of paper and parchment that litter the floor like freshly fallen snow. While his inspection of the bookshelves fails to yield the desired item, he does discover a hidden stash of 1 Potion and 10 Gold. William's attempt to open the chest appears futile as it appears to be locked. Party Leader, how will the spoils be divided? 10 Gold Potion x1 – Restores 10 health to the target. -
Having a new party rescue the heroes would be an interesting twist, but probably not fair for the current participants, since signups would take another week, during which they couldn't do anything.

"No I'm afraid I haven't had a lad by that name in here lately, I had someone fitting his description about a week ago, but he was only a short potbellied orc looking for a cookbook for his wife. Bah, the nerve of that fellow, pawing at my precious stock with his greasy sausage fingers, it makes my blood boil." The metasimian turns to a small filing cabinet and looks through it, "Brickal, Brickeling, Ah Ha! Brickough! Here we are." The metasimian presents a small card, "My, my, my. Signor Brickough's "Maladies of the Brick" a very rare book indeed, you fellows must have some very strange tastes. That book was banned during the onset of the "Gray Plague" many years back, some even say that that fellow Brickough may have even had something to do with the initial outbreak. But those were probably just rumors spread around by his competitors. You'll find the text in my backroom, black hard cover, leather bound" the metasimian nods his head toward the curtain, indicating the direction of his storeroom. "I keep most of my older and more valuable stock and such, in there. It's a small cave that makes for a natural store room, dry, warm, free from the eyes of the Eubricean censorship authorities. It used to serve as an entrance to the catacombs running underneath the city, but I had it boarded up years ago, it was getting just too damp to store my precious books." The metasimian leads the Party behind the curtain to the store room. Boxes, barrels, shelves, and chests filled with books, scrolls, and all manner of texts litter the entire room. "Well, I'm sorry it's a mess boys, I've been meaning to clean it, but you know how it goes running a shop all by yourself. I'd help you look for the book, but I ain't got the slightest idea where it's hiding. All I know is the catalog says we've got one copy and it's stored somewhere back here. Let me know if you find it and I'll ring you up at the front." With that, the shop owner leaves the Party in the flickering candlelight. Party, please descriptively state the exact locations you'd like to check in bold, one at a time. -

The metasimian blinks at the party. "Know Byblos? What metasimian worth his bunch of bananas doesn't know that great scholar?" The book seller smiles, "I'm assuming you must be from Heroica Hall. Now what's this business about the Guild of Invision? I'm afraid I don't do much business with them, but if you are looking for a book, I can assure you I have at least half a dozen copies of it on hand, everything from classics to those books which were banned during the early founding of Eubric. I have from signed first additions steeped in their author's own blood, worn paperbacks perfect readers on the go, scripts so tiny that only fairies can read them, and tomes so big each gilded letter is as big as my head. I have books that cost a dime to a dozen, and books that even that only a Hinckwell could buy. So how can I best serve you?" -

The party comes to the used bookstore Shrooft's Scripts and Tomes. Entering the shop, they are greeted by the Metasimian owner Shrooft. "Good day to you gentlemen, what can I do for you?" How will the Party answer? -
That was the idea of the poisoned blade at Gurnam's, but nobody wanted to take him up on the offer he even provided the loan to get it Ah well, there's some more interesting items coming up soon at some more of the shops, so maybe next time.
-
Yes indeed. I'm at class at the moment so the bookshop should be up in approximately 8 hours.

The Party approaches the assailed couple. The dark haired gentleman addresses them. "Thank you, thank you, my good sirs. You have no idea the blessing you have been to my fiancé and I, we thought we heard the cry of a small child down this alley before we were ambushed by those thugs who tried to rob us. The Blood Paw gang's activities are becoming more and more bold and the terror of the whole thing is the Town Watch is doing nothing about it. But I digress, please take the this writ of service for the local blacksmith, I am a spice merchant and have no need for such a thing, I don't even own a sword. Thank you once again for your help." With that, the gentleman hands the party a Writ of Blacksmith Service and departs with his fiancé. Heroica RPG - Quest#9: Trespassers
Waterbrick Down replied to Masked Builder's topic in The Heroica Archive
Skall watched as the two advanced mages each attacked their opponent. Namyrra easily blasted the werewolf into oblivian, while Althior once again missing the Dementor. "Sod, that mage," Skrall thought to himself, "if it hadn't been for his blasted compass I would have sent him packing paths ago." Skrall luck however didn't improve as his bolt harmlessly flew by its target and the demon fixed him in its icy glare, turning him to stone. "Namyrra rally everyone and send that demon to..." -
I would assume that the battle order would stay the same, since we haven't nominated a second leader and Skrall can't really do anything to change it.
-
The shield effect has not techincally been used yet, but it sounds similar to someone having the benifits of standing in the back row, while being able to attack from the front. For monsters, I find it easier to have the drops, special, and type set, while adapting the health and level to the stats of the Party at the time.
-
I'm curious as to your reference to a shield effect, are you thinking about some variation of the knight's sentinel position?
-
Thanks, you are right. I will adjust the stats accordingly. Cool combos Sandy, I can't wait to see the whole set.
