Someone ever painted Lego Hairparts?
Peppermint_M replied to aayla-secura's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I use acrylic pain and delicate brushstrokes with a fine and small paint brush. It seems to come out alright if you are paitient and do a few thin coats. -
Those legs look very much like the Alpha Team legs of the last sets. The Arctic section of the theme, when their uniforms and logo went under a drastic redesign and the character lineup changed considerably. Cool modifications to the Blacktron, those legs make a great addition, and the Body Miners are pure win

E S Phosthumus. Odenall Pi A fantastic track. I love to listen to music like this.

Box difference between US and the world
Peppermint_M replied to Motti's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, the US certainly has rigourouse procedures for toy safety testing, so packaging regulations must be pretty tight (due to all the litigation that Americans seem so inordinately fond of. Translated: They like to sue...) -
Instruction storage and organization
Peppermint_M replied to mania3's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Currently I keep the larger instructions in plastic pockets and the small (impulse sets) instructions in business card pocket file leaves (thats the name on their lable...) I am planning on getting some trading card pockets too and more lever arch files to keep them in, alphabetised by theme name and then by year of release, with the smaller set instructions in their own order elewhere. I love to keep my instructions in order and I am very proud that I still have the instructions I had in sets from about 13 years ago when I was quite small. -
Box difference between US and the world
Peppermint_M replied to Motti's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Different legislation and regulations. Different countries/governing organisations demand different information on packaging. Some things are entirely required by law in America that aren't in Europe and vice versa. -
Space gates, after all, humans got to Zi somehow! On topic: The last megabloks I bought were some PotC, for the ninja like weapons. Lets face it TLC are not going to make real-ish weapons so any "clone" brands that do make such things are going to be bought by Lego fans who want minifig scale weapons.

Too true. Tesco (Extra) only sells the Star Wars and Indy lego, plus a few creator sets and Bionicle, Local ones only ever have a few of the smaller sets. ASDA only ever has Bionicle. My nearest Toys 'r' Us is in Cardiff, on the bay... So a normal trip to Cardiff means I can't get to it. The Entertainer has at least a £3 markup on the prices, so any impulse sets there get too high a price. Sainsbury's near me sells the 2006 sets at christmas only... With Woolworths gone I have nowhere to buy Lego, let alone impulse sets. The only places I have seen impulse sets are: A Newsagents/Toyshop in Dartmouth and a similar shop in Newcastle Emlyn. Both far to far away...
-
You just don't find impulse sets in shops these days. Not one supermarket stocks any at all. They are still selling the small city sets from 2006... Impulse sets like these need to be in shops to be bought on an impulse, it's not worth it to buy online. So they mustn't sell very well on S@H. Therefor Lego won't make many.

What New Themes or Sets would you like TLG to make?
Peppermint_M replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A theme that is Arctic based. A proper research post with geologists, meteorologists and scientists conducting below freezing experiments and researching one of the few places on the surface of the earth that hasn't been fully pocked and prodded to scientific satisfaction.. In other words: Scientific Arctic Research. It could be mildly educational. Unique elements and sets could be the survival pod/tents, the Ice Borers that drill deep into the ice, things like that. A return of the Polar Bears . More diving that isn't science fiction or at least mildly fantastic would be cool too. Under water Archeologists, the super subs that can go to depths of high preassure, things like that. -
The Pythons The Two Ronnies Eddie Izzard Harry Hill. French and Saunders A favourite programme of mine is Mock the Week, which has lots of different comedians, all of whom are incredibly funny.
-
Thanks for the review and the great pictures, not being a fan of flesh tone I really need to find out as much as I can about the sets before I buy them and your review was really helpful. As soon as I see this in shops I know it's worth buying.

Have a nice break from making comics? Or was it a case of constructing, photographing and editing one giant buffer? Great to have the comic rolling again

Rebel Battlepack. I remembered that they get phased out in the next year and decided to get one before I couldn't find any.

100 pence make £1, so 98p would be arounnd 70 cents (my maths isn't so good and the £-$ exchange keeps changing, but you get the gist) so 98 pence for an ok-ish quality construction toy is rather good =D It was called C3 (I have some at home. the flying thing, with Catwoman and a purple Batman)
-
C3 also make bricks in the same functional design that TLC does, they are fantastic quality and quite frankly, their small (and no longer held liscence) Batman sets were better than some of the things TLC did, I bought a set and apart from the wacky cubrick like figures it was brilliant, high quality plastic, all the parts fitted together fine and the bricks had printing instead of super fiddly stickers. Also, TLC lost their copyright case recently I did link it in a previouse topic. Here is the link to the story. I mainly buy LEGO, however I'm also quite happy to buy non-LEGO construction bricks (that are certainly not rip-offs) as both filler and because I like the set. Ok so the stuff I bought in Poundland was pirated LEGO and fitted together poorly so I'm not buying any more. The only reason I don't buy megablocks is because I do not like the figures, either they are crash dummy look-alikes or they are super detailed flimsy miniature action figures. Ho Hum (Stands proudly, not caring about bashing in the slightest)

Why care what others think? I'm 20 and work in a job many would call professional (I'm training to be a Civil Engineer, at the moment my official title is Technical Assistant..) yet no one bats an eyelash when I point out my hobby, or they see me surfing Lego S@H during lunch. Even in my last years at school everyone agreed that Lego is awesome, yes, I suppose most twenty year old girls do not plan to spend their weekends planning and building a space craft from Lego, and they certainly don't spend their money on the latest sets. But if it is what you enjoy there's no problem. Do what you are happy doing and don't worry about what others think.
-
You know, apart from the near constant changes in the grey shades ( which is nothing to do with quality at all) I have never encountered any problems with any LEGO bricks, plates or elements. In millions and millions of bricks manufactured, such few small instances are nothing to be too worried about. And LEGO is better than all competing brands and rip-offs.
-
why thank you, you are all very helpful. It is a problem I have on many forums, (two instances were only resolved after the cosplay pictures were posted...) and I am glad such an easy solution is there.

Awww, who can resist Pound Land Lego fakes?! Its like passing up on a box of really bad gundam ripoffs and a robot called The Changing Robot (in an exact fit to the Transformers Logo...) or those Riot Police building sets (To Prevent any Terror Event and Violence) with the red hats and all the guns (for 98 pence!!) Then there is the fact that when Lego did skate boards and Mega BLoks did skate boards, the Lego wis impossible to find and cost many many pounds and the Mega Bloks were in Tesco for a fraction of the price and I really wanted skate boards for my minifigs (and I still use them! the ramps make very good roofs on rustic desert punk huts, and the girders are all silvery and cool) Defiant continuation of Using non-Lego construction bricks!!!! (Evil is Amusing)

Yup, I own some, I've used some and have recently kept myself amused by buying even cheaper building bricks. :P

Thanks, I'll bring it up

Pop culture minifigs
Peppermint_M replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I used a basketball piece and two single studs glued on and painted pink. The feet are some junky megablocks I bought years ago, rollerblade elements I believe, glued on as feet. I drew the face on with a permenant ink pen. It was a fun MOC to make, though all the paint and glue drying meant it took a while. -
It is impressive in size and I applaude anyone who attempts such a large MOC on a brick by brick basis without blueprints or other such things. However the colours are niggling (I am a bit OCD when it comes to colouring though) as they are inconsistant. The price tag is also large... They are certainly dedicated to quit their jobs (for me LEGO is an after work and weekends thing) to build it, but to make back the costs and make a profit will be a huge effort. I wish them the best of luck in their venture.

Pop culture minifigs
Peppermint_M replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I'm not a fan of flesh tone, so my figs are using yellow. Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII fame. Kirby, the pink puffball from Nintendo (He counts as a fig right? Like Rotta the Hutt?) Samus Arran from Metroid. These are the figs I have made so far. I have plans for a few more when I have the parts.
