Videos of 10220 VW Camper and 10222 Winter Village Post Office now available Designer videos of the 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van and 10222 Winter Village Post Office are now available. Have a look at them and discuss here. Thanks legomilk for posting the news! UPDATE: Seems the videos have now been made private by TLG and that they were released a bit premature.

Fabuland ice cream parlor I have a confession to make. Sometimes it's while browsing other AFOL sites that I find out about some real gems posted here at Eurobricks. In this case I was reading the Brothers Brick when a I spotted the most adorable Fabuland MOC, only to find out it was built by none other then our own admin Hinckley. Read more and comment here

I love these old Adventureres series. About propellers, they are actually not illegal (belive it or not). The 4733 brick with four studs should attach fine into the 60208 TURBINE (but LDD is lacking the connectivity, so that's one down for the LDD guys in Denmark to fix). And the 3673 CONNECTOR PEG can actually sit inside the 4733 since the four studs make cavities that allow the pin flanges to expand, thus not creating any stress on the pin. Even so, I don't think this build would be accepted by DesignLab today since props would probably fall out to easily if being spun by kids. That's my guess at least. Prop assembled in attached file Also, I go the "one brick removed" error when opening. It seems to be the chain of the boat that is the problem. Prop.lxf

Stealth Gray Goose ?
Superkalle replied to Phantom59's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yepp, the import/export Ldraw feature in LDD is not the greatest. It hasn't been touched by the LDD developers for years. The main control of how bricks are translated is governed by the LDRAW.XML file, which is occaionally updated. Read more here. Updating to the latest file could give you better results. Also (but I'm not sure it matters), you could try to turn on Extended Mode before importing since it seems to be missing a lot of bricks during import. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Superkalle replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, excellent idea. And while we are at it. When you do add or subtract bricks (either indivudually or with rectangle tool), it would be great if while holding the CTRL key you cannot nullify the entire selection if you slightly move the mouse. It has happened to me thousands of times that you CTRL click to add bricks, and then at the last brick you accidently move the mouse slightly while clicking, and the entire selection is nullified. -
You know there is Extended Mode now, right?

Discuss LDD Extended mode here
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Not that I know of at least. Usually there are two releases per year. One major release (usually in the fall), and one update (mostly new bricks) in April. -

MOC: Unusual Utensil
Superkalle replied to Shine's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Great work. Like treeboy sais, the base rule at Eurobricks is that, unless you share the LXF, LDD MOCs should be posted in their respective themes. Since you share the LXF, you're in the right place PS: The reason for this rule is that we don't want to split up MOCs in digital and real. For example if you post a MOC of a pirate ship, you probably want feedback from the pirate experts, and they tend to hang mostly in the Pirates forum. However, if you share the LXF, the file can be of interested to LDD builders, to examine and learn, and hence the MOC should be posted here in the LDD forum. At least that is the thought. There are exceptions to this rule, and that is for extraordinary LDD design work and/or for work that push the boundaries of what can be done in LDD. -
The base rule at Eurobricks is that MOCs without attached LXF-files should be posted in their respective theme forums. Exceptions are made for extraordinary LDD work that is out of the ordinary. This is just such work Really, really well done. And welcome to the LDD Forum here at Eurobricks! (and I suppose RFFL stands for Russian Fan Forum LEGO, correct?)

How to print out part list from LDD?
Superkalle replied to bzcat's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No prob. But using the LDD>LDR methods results in the same problem as using the LDD2Ldraw tool, since they more or less use the same lookup-data. That I have no clue about (more of an LDD geek myself), but maybe someone here knows. I would imagine it should work though. -
How to print out part list from LDD?
Superkalle replied to bzcat's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If you are refering to LDD2Ldraw, I'm not sure it works anymore. At least the last time I tried that was the case (zero parts converted). I think the last release of it was two years ago, and I know the the LXFML format has changed slightly since then, so that may be the reason. Also, when the LDD2Ldraw tool was created, LDD only had a few hundred parts, now it's over 2000, so I don't know how accurate the mapping info is now. Also, LDD2Ldraw doesn't support decorations. It's actually the mapping between LDD and BrickLink ID's that is the main work in LDD Manager. It's like you say, in most cases the part ID's map directly (i.e. 55817 in LDD is 55817 in BL), but in many cases (about 10-20%), they don't (i.e. 55240 in LDD is x1813 in BL) and even worse, there are a lot of pure mistakes in BrickLink (i.e. data incorrectly entered etc). To be honest, the catalog responsible at BrickLink could learn alot by looking at LDD, which is exposing the internal LEGO part numbers and names in a way unimaginable a few years back. -
How to print out part list from LDD?
Superkalle replied to bzcat's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Like treeboy mentioned, you can parse the LXF-file yourself (it's only a zip-file with an XML-file inside it, so not to complicated), but the thing LDD Manager does it not only to parse the file, but also to translate the part numbers from LEGO-id's to BrickLink ID's, and finaly to create the necessary XML code to upload to BrickLink. There is also some error checking features that could be useful (for example checking if the part has been produced in that color) Like AndyC says, you don't need to buy Access, you can just download and install the free runtime client. If you are on a Mac, there is however no other solution then to run a virtual PC and then Access on top of that. -
How to sketch Lego builds with an iPad

Cool idea. And BTW - love your U2 Mocs -
I was in the supermarket yesterday thinking to myself - why don't they have LEGO in those gumball machines - just to compete with all the other crappy toys. And today I read that it's allready out there. Gotta love this site

Here is the front wing fixed to start with. I agree, it was difficult to see from the instructions, but the trick was to tilt the wing slightly. In LDD the elements collide into each other and it possible to put the pieces together only because the collision boxes are slightly smaller then the surface. With physical bricks, the elements are probably under stress and so in other words - this is an illegal design by TLG. But at least in this case we can re-create it in LDD. 8289FrontFix.lxf

Sherman M4A3 Tank
Superkalle replied to treeboy's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
And here for comparison is the pick from from Mechanized Bricks: (Actually, this got me thinking - I don't think it's a good idea to share the instructions (in LXF-format) like this. I'm sure Mechanized Bricks put a lot of work into making the design and the instructions. I'm taking the liberty of removing the link to the LXF-file). -
