  1. Guys - please don't post anything here anymore regarding if others are breaking the rules or not, not even what/if/when Moderators will judge what or when. It seems you've just taken the evergoing debate from the Rules topic and started it in a new place. ONLY ask questions about your own entries. Thanks.
  2. Guys - can I please ask you to slow down the "debate" a bit. A bit too many speculations right now. We've read the question from CM4Sci, and we're talking now about it before rushing with an answer. Please be patient - it may take a day or so to answer your questions. Thanks
  3. I've tried to follow the last days posts, but I'm not sure if there is still any question in there or if everything has been straightened out.
  4. Just thought we'd give you a final reminder for the ongoing Digital Design Contest. Please note also the slight modification to the "max 10 model" rule and the interpretation of "model" vs "set" Last entry date is April 30th. Good luck!
  5. Important rule clarification/addendum about definition of models vs. sets We had an internal discussion about the model/set definition and realized that maybe it wasn't 100% clear. So we decided to interpret the rules a bit more generously (like some of you did). After all it is a contest that is supposed to be fun and where you are supposed to be able to express your theme concept. This now means so you can go ahead and interpret sets as "models", which would be a bit more like LEGO does. But use sound judgement. A set with 20 "models" in it, and then 10 of those sets, adding up to 200 small models will be too many. Also, note that there is still the max 5000 brick rule for all your models/sets. We hope this won't feel unfair to those that has already posted their entries. And you can naturally add/modify your entry all the way up until the last day.
  6. 10 models is what we thought If you make a model like, say a Cafe Corner style house, and add some loose elements around it (like a bicyle, or some brick-built tree), then that's naturally OK as part of that model. The same if you make a firetruck, and have some minifigs standing around holding some attachments or whatever. But to have two vehicles in a "set", so that you get a theoretical total of 20 vehicles, then that's not OK. The limit of 10 was set to allow you guys to have enough room to explain the theme idea and we hope that 10 models and 5000 bricks is enough to do that. Does that answer the question?
  7. The main point is too keep them in the 1024*768 range. If you want to make the images slightly wider (let's say max 1200), then you need to do so at the expense of the height. Hope that gives some indication. 1600x1200 is too big.
  8. Just a quick reminder about the ongoing 2016 Eurobricks Digital Design contest. Only two more weeks to go now. Click here to head on over to Digital Design forum and read all about it. First prize is the massive 75827 Ghostbuster set.
  9. I helped you to clearify the title. There are lots of different tools discussed here, so it's good to make it clear in the title.
  10. We'll try to review the entry topic from time to time, and if we spot something we'll send a PM to the contestant. But we may miss something, and ultimately it's the contestant that have to check that their models meet the contest rules. In this case, it may also be that the contestant isn't finished yet, and updates to the entry post may come? But it's naturally OK that others here in the forum make a post here in the comment topic when they spot something (like you did here bublible). let's hope gercrow reads this topic and notices.
  11. Nice looking stuff. I'm moving this topic to the Town forum since the Digital Design forum is only for discussing and sharing techniques etc around digital design. MOCs go into the respective theme forums.
  12. If you need the decals/stickers to be visible during building/editing, then the Ldraw platform can do that, but I'm not sure exactly how it's done. Let's see if a Ldraw expert can answer. If it's only for rendered images you need the decals, then you can model in LDD and then use LDD2PovRay to apply decals and render, but a limitation is that you can only place the custom decal in a place on the brick already defined by LDD. There's a lot more on this subject in the LDD2PovRay topic here in the forum.
  13. It's silly time with a hydraulic press:
  14. Not sure. Normally, the icons are given to members that have been active in the DD forum for some time, have some expertise and/or have added value to the forum, for example adding models to the Official Sets topic, indexing topics or similar.
  15. I removed your quote because it felt unnecessary to quote my post with the entire rule addendum. Large quotes in general just take up real estate, and it would have been better if you trimmed it down yourself from the beginning. You shouldn't overanalyze my action though - no harm meant. About consequences if there are too few participants - I didn't give you an answer because I simply don't have one and I don't think it adds value to think about it until the problem arises. I hope you find that OK? Also about the question about theme - I'm not sure what the question was, or if it was more a request? Anyway, I think the rules are as clear and extensive as they can be. We've given the possibility to explain the theme background story etc, and if people want to explain the theme principle, they are free to do so.
  16. Don't think it has ever happened at EB that a contest has too few entries that this has never been a question.
  17. There's been a small rule adjustment in the ongoing Digital Contest. Click here to read about it.
  18. IMPORTANT RULE UPDATE After the discussion in this topic about not being able to use any new/unexisting part/color combos, we did some thinking. Since the contest goal was "design your own theme" and digital tools actually allow the use of any color, in retrospect it feels fair to at least allow a few new color combos. This would also mimic the situation that LEGO Designers have, as they can request some new colors per year/theme. So we decided on the following rule adjustment: Current rule: Although it's possible to use all brick/color combinations when building digital, to keep it fair, use only released color/part combinations, i.e. what can be find on BrickLink. New addition to above rule: In addition to this, you are allowed to use max 5 new/own combos in total for your proposed theme. List any new combos you use in your entry post so it's clear which they are. FAQ: Q1: Can I use 5 new bricks per model, or is it for the entire theme? A: It is for the entire theme. Q2: Will you check so that I use max 5 new combos? A: No, we are not going to check each entry for using max 5 new combos, or even if the color combo has already been produced, so we trust you do this yourself (or risk that it's being spotted by your peers or by voters). Q3: Why only 5 new combos - that doesn't sound like much? A: Well, at least the situation for this contest is far better then for any LEGO Designer, because you have access to ALL possible color combos ever produced, whereas a LEGO Designer only has access to the "active" parts, i.e. those that are in production now. Q4: How did you come to the number 5. Why not 10 or 20? A: 5 bricks is a trade-off. For some new themes (Chima etc) there are probably more then five, but for some other, like Creator, no new color combos are allowed at all. So 5 is a trade-off.
  19. No, you don't have too provide the LXF. And what's hidden doesn't really matter I suppose - it's what can be seen that is important. Yes
  20. I think I've given a fair explanation about how we came to this decision in previous posts and I'm not sure what more I can add, but I'll try. First, let me say I can definitely respect your opinion, and the term "digital design contest" can be interpreted in many ways. In previous contest we often had a bonus prize for those builder that also made the digital MOC with physcial bricks, but at least we dropped that this time and made it "all digital". So I guess that's where the name "digital design contest" came from. As for the prime advantage of digital design, for a lot of people it's not the unlimited brick/color combo palette, but rather that you have access to unlimited number of bricks in the (existing) bricks/colors and can then experiment and test before placing those expensive order on BrickLink. So even though it's a digital design contest, we still thought we'd retain some connection to the physical bricks (...and even though the contest goal is "create your own theme"). I guess it's also part of getting the contest interesting for voters even outside the hard-core digital community. I mean, a lot of getting impressed with a MOC is getting awestruck by how the builder managed to get such a cool model within the limitations of the bricks/colors that is LEGO. I hope that explains it all.
  21. I don't have any such plans at the moment. It takes quite some work to map the bricks and do other maintenance, and I'm not sure how to keep up the interest. I'm was thinking about making it donorware at one time to get a little reward, but that never happened. Next best solution is probably to manually check uncertain brick/color combos against BrickLink.
  22. Sorry, but I'm afraid we're going to have to say no and stick with the rules as they are.
