  1. From what I have been told, it is actually illegal to place the 4x4 round under a 44375, so in that sence LDD is now working "as it should be". The set 7939 thus uses an illegal method.
  2. This is because the top of the brick is concidered a "normal" brick stud, and those are generally not allowed at TLG to be connected to a Technic hole. A Technic hole is not really a good receptor for a stud since it does not allow for expansion/flex (as normal anti-studs do) and it does not connect to the stud through all of the studs length. Therefore Technic holes are mostly only allowed for decorations and such, i.e. small 1x1 round plates etc that act as headlights etc. It is not supposed to be used for any structural building, i.e. cannot "take up any load". Having said this, there are naturally exceptions in official TLG sets, but they are rare, so as I have understood the decision was made at the LDD Team to be conservative in allowing the connection between a technic hole and a stud. (Then there is also the issues that the hole in a Technic brick is out of system by a fraction of a millimeter that would also cause the LDD Team to be conservative, but that is another matter).
  3. ...and now, back to the studio for a quick news flash from the Digital Design section: LEGO Digital Designer has just been updated with 180 new bricks - everything from tires to minifig apparel, making the grand total of bricks in LDD just under 3000. Furthermore, about 20 brick bugs have been fixed. Read more about it here. LDD Manager has been updated to version 1.20 with support for all the above mentioned bricks. Read more about LDD Manager here. LDD2PovRay, the ultimate tool for creating photo-realistic renderings from LDD models, is on version 1.2.10. If you haven't checked it out, you should definitely do so. And finally, a small celebration. The Digital Designer section here at Eurobricks recently tipped over 1000 topics. Thanks all members for that . And if you havent' visited us yet, Calabar, legolijntje and myself welcome you over to our corner
  4. New version of LDD Manager out now, version 1.20. News: Added support for LDD 4.3.6, brickset 1128 Updated all BrickLink brick data as per July 2013 Added new “Spread out” feature to generate LXF to get visual overview of parts in a model. Updated so that it’s now possible to use the LDD Palette colors 315 and 316
  5. Thanks for the pic Classicsmiley. Now it makes more sense, since the connection has been stabilized with a 4085
  6. My question/concern was not so much that it takes the plates out of system (even though that is true too, but I honestly didnt' think about it), but that the connection doesn't hold together very well. I tried with a whole bunch of ball-joint elements and together with the 60470 and they are all loose. However, the 30350 I tried had a much better connection. So in that sense it may be regarded as illegal because the tolerenace/grip cannot be guaranteed with all "double clip" elements. (and for some reasons, the 30350 connection does not work in LDD ) What Coast Guard set was it?
  7. OK, thanks, then I know. But was it really possible to connect them in the old brickset? I can't recall that being possible.
  8. Error 1: As far as I can judge, this would be concidered a legal technique since the two 1x1 technic bricks at each end would be able to give a little bit. But I don't think it would pass TLG quality filters today since attaching studs in technic pegs is concidered an exception. In this case, the designer would probably been forced to find another solution. Error 2: This is not illegal per se. The reason it doesn't work in LDD is because LDD (at the moment) does not support loose connections with technic pins (i.e. they have to snap fully to one end). Error 3: Same as Error 1 PS: Thanks for making such excellent error reports, with even links to the BI.
  9. Are you sure? From what I can see in LDD, the two parts shouldn't even connect IRL.
  10. I just tried with a 60470 and I found the connection to be quite loose. And it comes off very easily. I did notice it can connect in LDD, but I wonder if that's not a mistake?
  11. Just sharing the db.lif file is fine.
  12. I don't think there are any new decorations - I haven't heard anything at least. BTW, a simple workaround for those who can't get the update to download - just get the db.lif file from someone else and put it in the right folder. That should do the trick.
  13. I'm conveying some info from the LDD Team: The latest update seemed to be too large for some computers. A fix is being worked at. The update contains about 180 new parts. See attached LXF-file. About 20 bugs have been fixed, see list below. Bug fixes 98102 COCKPIT cannot be lowered completely. NOTE: fix also includes changed connectivity, so brick will removed when opening existing LXF and thus need to be re-placed. 85861 ROUND PLATE WITH HOLE does not connect to Technic holes This elements is now becoming a System element, and thus this was changed 11272 CROSS BLOCK has too shallow x-axle holes 13269 ROOF FRONT cannot be placed back-to-back with another 13269 75542 and 75541 RAIL SWITCHES do not connect to other tracks 64022 FLEX RAIL does not allow full connectivity Missing sliding functionality on 99061 LATTICE Missing sliding functionality on 89519 LATTICE W KNOB and 11216 LATTICE W KNOW 64647 FEATHER has wrong geometry 10304 CHEST LID will not connect to 30163 COFFIN 87752 COCKPIT will not close fully 41750 LEFT SHELL cannot be placed next to 41749 RIGHT SHELL 93571 BALL CUP will not fully allow technic pin to attach. 10067 RING should not allow studs to attach from two sides NOTE: will allow attachment, but only from one of the sides 4019 cannot fit fully into 32007 57528 will not allow x-axle through Technic hole Minifig and some other parts cannot be placed inside 47847 WALL ELEMENT 40243 NEWEL STEP does not have cavity on underside 30158 RUCK SACK is not in its closed position 4623 PLATE W HOOK out of system Connection forbidden between PLATE 1X1 ROUND (6141)and PIVOT JOINT W. TECHNIC HOLE. (43889). ReleasedBricks.lxf
  14. This was an odd one. The 42003 can fit in the position you mentioned Toa, but even at that position it seems to be in collision (blue arrow below).
  15. The lxfml standard is open and public. There is a document I got from TLG a long time ago for publishing here in the forum. Only problem is I can't find it right now...it's in the forum somewhere. EDIT: Hm, still can't find it so I attached it here again. LXFML5.zip
  16. OK; gotcha. Well, then it looks very much like an illegal build from TLG, because the 60478 seems to be seriously crammed there No problem, my pleasure
  17. @ADHO15 and Stephan Regarding 10237 Tower of Orthanc If I understand correctly you have problems to close the gap between the "spike" assembly (hinging on the 60478). If so, you can close it by clicking the small arrows in the hinge tool (Increment/decrement angle). See attached image. Capture.zip
  18. I think I found an acceptable solution. Have a look and see what you think. 8963_rock_wrecker_fix.lxf
  19. Excellent tip. Very clever
  20. I found that these two most likely are illegal builds from TLG. The Angular beam will be in compression if "forced" down into the telescopic arm so that it connects. The hook with ball will put stress on the T-beams, since it would force them outwards (not completely room there). However, that that the T-beams cannot connect to the hexagonal stand is an error.

I'm moving this over to the Sci-Fi forum. The general rule is that MOCs should be posted in their respective theme forum, and only in some special cases (like your Ferring building), should they be in the DD forum. So please post all MOCs in a theme forum, unless it's something that can be of interest to other digital builders Thanks
