  1. But see, this is the problem. How exactly is it "educated speculation"? Because one person on a forum, whose provenance is entirely unknown, said so? However . . . Since this appears to be what people want, and since the fact that someone chooses not to put stock in vague, unsubstantiated, unverifiable hearsay seems to have become such a problem, I will let the rest of you get on with your discussion, and refrain from posting in this thread after this.
  2. 28 pages of discussion from one-time alleged hearsay? Lego fans are smart
  3. I did back that Market Street idea, but I'm not sure how much chance it really has. It's excessively fancy and complex as posted, and a simplified version already exists (the Medieval Market Village). But it's not out of the question that something good might come out of it, and I'm happy to finally see a major Ideas set that isn't a licensed theme.
  4. Good job. Why agitate for an official wave when you can make the characters yourself? :)
  5. Finally, an Ideas post that isn't a licensed set.
  6. Nice. I fear that this topic will get less attention because it's a fantasy theme that doesn't involve Lord of the Rings, but such is life in this "community".
  7. I love how everything is a disappointment to AFOLs. If you want those insanely detailed 10,000+ piece models where you can't touch them the wrong way or they fall apart, you can build one yourself.
  8. Wow this petition is really setting things alight. Or not. I think "desperate" pretty much describes it. I'm really surprised by all the people who posted things like "LOTR or nothing". It makes it sound like there are people who don't actually like Lego and buy LOTR Lego because it's LOTR-themed, which is mind-blowingly insane to me.
  9. The ship was generally considered to be hinting at Pirates. There's no reason Pirates and Castle can't run at the same time; there's no perceived clash like with Castle and Lord of the Rings.
  10. But the last Lord of the Rings movie was released what, nine years before the first wave? I doubt that's going to stop them. And we know licensed sets are more profitable than actually making something original.
  11. Yeah, between the fact that licensed sets as a whole generally outsell non-licensed ones and the fact that the 2013 Castle line had less than half the number of sets and half the production run of Kingdoms, I wouldn't be surprised if Lord of the Rings comes back. I personally am not really stoked about that, because I like Castle and I've really had enough of the licensed sets already, but it would make sense.
  12. Despite surprisingly much discussion in this very thread, there is still no official announcement from Lego as to whether Lord of the Rings has ended; there's not even any consistency in people's reports about whether the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings sets have been selling, so you may well get your wishes and then some. Lego loves licensed sets right now, so I'd personally be surprised if either theme ends any time soon.
  13. Very cool! I like this way better than the swarms of generic gray and white brick castles you usually see on forums.
  14. Um, there's a thread in the Pirates forum about brainstorming a new subtheme and sending it to Lego via the Ambassador program. So what's the actual problem?
  15. More Viking sets would be absolutely amazing. We know for a fact that TLG knows how to make the style - as with the original Vikings theme, the CMF characters, and the elements of Lord of the Rings that are inspired by Norse mythology - and it would really add a new dimension to their product offerings.
  16. Hence my comment in the other thread about "how do we know Lord of the Rings is actually ending?" If there's business sense in something, there's a good chance they'll do it. Much as I would love increased shelf space for Castle again . . . look at Star Wars. How many years has that been going now? Even years when there wasn't a movie?
  17. I have to be honest: every time someone posts one of these "AFOL-oriented series ideas designed by an AFOL forum member" threads, I find the contents horribly boring. I know that AFOLs like to think of themselves as being more "serious" and whatever, but you know we are still talking about a toy, and I would like to see one of these threads be sort of aware that toys are intended to be fun.
  18. How do we know that Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are really ending? I mean, Star Wars has been going for more than a decade now. How do we know that classic space fans didn't once expect to get more of their sets "after Star Wars ended"?
  19. @Hive: The idea was to suggest to you that maybe there's more to being an AFOL than posting about how every new set is "<insert that tiresome argument> garbage".
