  5. They seemed pretty Spartan to me. Along with the Spartan, I also hid the Mime, which I think people found much easier.
  6. Thanks for this semi-review, it's good to see that the Drop Ship doesn't look lacking without stickers. I never realized that the Drop Ship only had one blaster. Other vehicles in the past have been very generous with those blasters, so is there a design reason for why there is only one? I always prefer when the vehicles are symmetrical, to cater for left and right-handed people (unlike the Rockoh T3). The Red Drop Ship looks great - someone built a Red Jetrax in a similar manner some time ago. The ship might be better suited for a different coloured Hero though - Furno doesn't stand out very well with Red on Red.
  7. Yes, that's fine. If you can make it look like it matches the Hero Factory theme sure, but that would probably be a lot harder with only SYSTEM. At the moment yes, but there might be something smaller such as tags for second and third place getters.
  8. No, but it will be the first one to finish.
  9. Masks like the Hau, Kraahkan or Ignika scream BIONICLE, while other masks such the Rode, Maxilos' faceplate or most Glatorian helmets would fit in with Hero Factory. It's pretty opinionated, but I trust that people's judgment is similar enough about what is "too BIONICLE" to fit in with Hero Factory. If you'd really like though, I can make you a list.
  10. Welcome to Hero Factory Month! In celebration of the launch of Hero Factory, the successor to the long running BIONICLE theme, Eurobricks is hosting an exciting contest with the main prizes donated kindly by the LEGO Group! But there's a twist - this month we'll be focusing on the under-represented villains and scumbags of Hero Factory, who deserve some time in the spotlight. The contest starts now, running until the 8th of October, and is your chance to see what Hero Factory is about if you were never too interested before. Remember to also stay tuned for more exciting events and giveaways throughout the month! Find details and rules in the Contest thread in the Action Figure Forum. Discuss Hero Factory month here.
  11. Welcome to the first Action Figure forum contest, in celebration of the new Hero Factory line! While we have been introduced to plenty of heroic robots who save the Hero Factory universe from the forces of evil, it seems that the forces of evil have been rather under-represented so far in the Hero Factory sets and story. So here at Eurobricks we are giving you the chance to fill in this absence of evil with your own devious masterminds, and their souped-up-destruction-orientated hotrods as well! Categories Villains: Build an evil mastermind to plan and carry out crimes as part of Von Nebula's gang! This kind of villain has at least a basic level of intelligence, and has tact and style in their manner of committing crimes. Entry must be reasonably humanoid, no less than official Hero Factory villains. Entry should be shorter than 30cm/12 inches. Entry must be based around a negative/dangerous idea, in the style of official Hero Factory villains. Post your villain entries in this topic. Henchmen: Build a lumbering giant to assist in felonies and to do the dirty work that the more "sophisticated" schemers would not do themselves. Henchmen are still dangerous outlaws, but prefer brute strength or firepower over brains and strategy! Entry should be at least 30cm/12 inches tall/long. Entry must be based around a negative/dangerous idea, in the style of official Hero Factory villains. Post your henchmen entries in this topic. Vehicles: Build a vehicle for villains to use in crimes, be it supplying additional firepower or providing a quick getaway! Entry must include at least one driver and space for the driver to operate the vehicle. Drivers can be official sets/unoriginal MOCs, but must be the size of an official Hero Factory Hero or larger. Vehicles can be mechanical or organic, and can be aerial, ground, aquatic, etc based. Entry must include at least one function/weapon for villains to use while on the vehicle, aside from mobility. Vehicle must fit in with the style of official Hero Factory/BIONICLE sets. Post your vehicle entries in this topic. General Rules Only one entry per member per category. Only official LEGO elements can be used, excluding minifigs considering the scale that entries should be at. "Real" entries only - no digital entries. There are no restrictions on ratios between SYSTEM/BIONICLE pieces, but the entry must visually fit in with official Hero Factory style and scale, so using primarily Hero Factory/BIONICLE pieces is recommended. (Iconic Bionicle masks can't be used for faces, but less iconic masks that would fit into the Hero Factory universe are fine.) Entries must include a description/bio of the MOC, in the style of official Hero Factory set descriptions on the Hero Factory website. Entries must have one deep-linked picture posted in the entry topic with a maximum resolution of 800x600, and an optional link to a topic with additional images if wanted. Contest ends on the 18th of October 2010 at 2300 NZT! Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified. Entries that do not meet all the requirements by the deadline will be disqualified. Whether an entry meets the requirements will be at the discretion of the contest host, but entrants will be notified if their entry does not meet the requirements. All entries can be altered/changed as many times as each entrant wishes up until the contest deadline. Shortly after the contest closes, a voting topic will be made for the qualifying entries. Comments and suggestions on entries are more than welcome! Prizes Generously donated by TLC, there is a fantastic prize for the first-place winner of each category: - Villains: 7148 Meltdown - Henchmen: 7145 Von Nebula - Vehicles: 7158 Furno Bike A few ideas for Villain/Henchman themes Lightning Lava/Volcano Mold Zombie Avalanche Spikes Buzz-saws Mutation T-rex Pet Rock Snakes Spiders Gravity Speed Mexican Buzz-saws Tornadoes Meteors Wormholes Heavy Weaponry Sandstorms What are you waiting for? Work up a diabolical masterplan and bring it to life!
  12. I'll just merge this topic into the existing topic where this belongs, and your question can be answered there (or here, as of this post ).
  13. Thanks for this review! I had to add a new post to the index, but this is indeed the place for Hockey action figures slammers. I never got one of these sets new, even though were in stores for years and ended up being marked down to around 1/3 RRP, but I've got a few Hockey parts in second-hand deals over the years. It's nice to see how the obscure pieces actually fit together, and the tricks the instructions suggest you do. There were probably complaints in the testing stages that kids burnt themselves drinking water hotter than 65 degrees C. Layers of armour everywhere except the chest! I'll give it credit because it at least resembles something sensible, unlike some of BIONICLE's combiners... You're ugly! How did you get sick from a container that originally contained plastic even after washing it?
  14. That prototype mask is a mash-up version, which would have been made in the early stages of developing Von Nebula's character/appearance. I suppose somewhere down the pipeline someone brilliantly realized that a Hydraxon mask with Mantax claws worked just as well, so they scrapped the new piece in progress, which could have freed up the budget for different new piece.
  15. To clarify the purpose of this topic, you post suggestions for things you think should become canon in the official BIONICLE story, the BSS will consider and discuss it, and then Nightmare or Tilius (or possibly Dorek) will reply back with the results of it. It takes a while for this process to happen though, but feel free to post new suggestions in a meantime. There aren't any revival rules for this topic, and double posting is alright if a week has passed with no reply, just to let Nightmare/Tilius know that there is a new suggestion. Hopefully this topic will get some good opinions from older BIONICLE fans who are still interested in seeing BIONICLE live on despite its cancellation.
  16. Let us know if the rriggs' or VBBN's solutions work for you so that we can close the topic, but in a mean time I'll move this to the Sci-Fi forum where it Exo-Force belongs.
  17. Thanks for the review of this set! It seems to be the set the least people have, but it's good to finally get some pictures of Vapour. Vapour certainly uses a much weaker design that the other Villains, mainly in the weapons, which don't make any sense despite the nice dual Meteor blasters. This review shows off the vibrant blue well though, which looks to be a highly redeeming factor for Vapour, especially in that group shot. Considering that Von Nebula and the Dropship did it, a recoloured Bionicle mask might have worked better than a Blue Rotor helm, such as Telluris' helmet, to help Vapour overcome the usual Special Rehash Edition look. Bulk looks alright and subtly upgraded, but the Stringer arm should have been recoloured silver to make it worth the loss of a precious silver Glatorian hand. For me, Bulk & Vapour is almost 20% more than the full price of one Hero and one smaller Villain. While each figure in this set is a few pieces bigger and more complex than their individual equivalents, those add-ons aren't big enough for me to justify a purchase. I like the set, but given that there are only 2 (or 3) exclusive pieces that I could find on Bricklink at a later date, I'll pass on this set unless I find it with a generous discount.
  18. And let's leave the joke there thanks. 18+ LEGO sites aren't actually that interchangeable with 18+ sites. For those following it, the 6th Hero Factory Podcast is up. I've yet to listen to it (and the previous couple of episodes ) myself.
  19. Absolutely, but I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that it's hard to show that interest when updates are so infrequent. Not to seem ungrateful for Greg continuing the story, as I'd much rather some story than no story at all, but if I can take a 3 month hiatus from Bionicle and expect to only read 4 new chapters when I return, it's difficult to always show interest. But I will always be very interested, so what BSS-stuff are you up to?
  20. This is a fantastic MOC, and certainly deserving of the Best Bionicle 2010 Brickee. Congratulations! I have mixed feelings about the revamp, both compared to the original and as a MOC by itself, but overall your 2nd Vayland Dragon is still amazing. The upscaling of the dragon looks great, creating a majestic and regal dragon rather than the more brutal tone of the original dragon. I'm glad you retained the head and neck, although I think it would have been better to keep the red/dark red colour mix rather than adding more black. The ninja wings are a perfect fit, and although using Bionicle pieces instead could have been nicer, I can't think of such piece off the top of my head. The tail is certainly an improvement from the original tail, and the Vladek-sword tip works perfectly! My main dislike about the MOC aside from the colours is the front legs and lower body. Compared to the elegant curves and SYSTEM plates of the head and neck, the Bohrok bodies and Metru limbs look messy and very hastily constructed. More Axalara panels might reduce the clutter, but they're hardly the piece that anyone would have more than 3 of . Reuse or a variation of the Shadow-Matoran wings for claws would also have been nicer, because they're smoother and more organic than the Bohrok teeth/hand sockets used. However, I've built similar large scale MOCs before (including dragons), and I know for a fact that most Bionicle pieces are too detailed to work well at such as scale, and sacrifices in aesthetics for stability because required to stop the MOC falling down under it's own weight in plastic. I'm sure that the body would look much better in reality, but overall 3D form and flow is hard to glimpse from a computer screen. In summary, I'm really glad that you (finally) rebuilt this dragon, as it's certainly one of the best Bionicle MOCs out there. I feel inspired to finish my Keetorange/Dark-Blue dragon, which has been collecting dust without a proper back for too many months!
  21. Where did you find them?
  22. I found most of the Hero Factory sets this weekend. Farmers had the exclusive Bulk & Vapour set, Meltdown and Corroder while Kmart had all 6 heroes and the four smaller villains for around 20% off prices (which seemed to be the base price at Kmart ). I'm probably talking to myself right now, which is why I didn't post it earlier.
  23. Wow, that's surprisingly close - the impression I got from previous reports of the series was that it was due to be released in September - October. It's a pity I'm not in Denmark though. Does the Denmark Cartoon Network channel air in Danish or English? If it is in English we might be lucky enough to see it on the internet a bit earlier, otherwise I'll need to wait until it airs elsewhere. Did you have any involvement in the series yourself Front, or will this Sunday be your first viewing of the series?
  24. Solid, according to the reviews so far.
  25. The colours, style and part usage on this MOC is great! I especially like the circular shoulder area and the jaw. I only have a few suggestions to improve it, which would be using white tubing or white double sockets for the tail, and adding thighs to the hind legs. While the Metru shoulder armour spine is a great concept, the lack of tapering along the neck and body detracts from the flow of the dragon. Would it be possible to add white/back (if you don't change the tail) spikes of varying length coming out of each shoulder piece?
