  1. I think that's a sterncastle (I'm not sure the term is correct though), but that surely is not a forecastle - the forecastle (or fo'c's'le) is a place in forward part of the ship where ordinary sailors (not captain or other important guys) live.
  2. What do you mean? That they aren't good enough? Well I have to disagree with that statement. OK ;)
  3. I saw this site maybe a year ago and couldn't find it again until now. We should create a thread about each of these ships. I've already come up with some things I like and don't like about them.
  4. But not as an entire crew. This ship looks a bit like a crossover between Pirates and Paradisa.
  5. I've seen this one on Lugnet lately. It is overcrowded and the overhang in the sterncastle part is too long - it looks like it's going to break off and fall into water.
  6. That's hard to establish. I still cannot decide what other nation I should add to my own pirate world apart from Spaniards and Britons (I've finally decided to consider both bluecoats and redcoats as English, which is historically accurate). I have an idea to make another army whose soldiers will wear jackets like this one: However I can't decide what nation they should represent (French? Dutch? someone else?). Perhaps someone can help me with an advice? It would be best to choose a nation whose real life uniforms resembled this one from the picture at least a bit (for example weren't black or green :) ). It's a pirate jacket but I think it would work well as part of a uniform. And when I finally add and name another nation, I will decide what country should this merchant ship here belong to as I don't want any country to have too big an advantage in the number of vessels, military or not. So far the English (bluecoats and redcoats) have the biggest amount of units so I don't want this ship to be English.
  7. Now that I think of it I guess the reason why Red Beard Runner didn't have any name in Poland is because AFAIK the name Captain Red Beard was never mentioned in Polish catalogues - he was called Roger instead (as in many other countries).
  8. In Polish version of 1992's catalogue Black Seas Barracuda was called "Dark Shark" and Imperial Flagship was "Sea Lion". Those names were in English, not translated into Polish, and they were the same as UK names. Rock Island Refuge was called "przysta
  9. I didn't notice the SNOT beds we can see on this picture before. Very cool! Are they your idea or are they isnpired by someone else's creations?
  10. Nope, its action was kinda located in the same universe as Golden Axe but IMO it was much better - a mixture of arcade, adventure and maybe a little RPG. And unlike other Golden Axe games it was released on Sega Master System only (but nowadays you can emulate it on your PC).
  11. And it IS used to store grog, unless it's water these guys are drinking :)
  12. As I said - first I have to determine what nation this ship belongs to and then give it a name in appropriate language.
  13. The DragonTankard Tavern reminds me of a 1986 video game (on Sega Master System) called Golden Axe Warrior - the colours look like mountain scenery in that game, and we also had ruined buildings there, and the view in the game was from upper angle, something like this:
  14. I especially like the cellar - it's a great idea to put the ground level above the baseplate level which makes room for the cellar, and make it a house on a hill using BURPS - that way if you place it adjacent to another building built just on a baseplate, not elevated, it will fit. Clever!
  15. There's one thing I don't like about this model, which you can't tell from pictures. I didn't have enough original mast parts (well, I had but I had to spare them for my future projects) so the aft mast is kind of custom and because of that it's quite unstable - I just have to be careful not to shake the ship too much or it would fall. This is pretty irritating but I had to make it that way if I wanted to have some masts left for another ships.
  16. Well that's a very nice one! Why has its creator published so few pictures? We can't see much detail, for instance I wonder if the sterncastle can be opened, can we see the cabin's interior and what's inside? It's impossible to present a MOC this huge on only 5 pictures... Also, the masts should be taller with one more sail on top of each of them, the ship looks slow with those multiple decks and so small total surface of the sails. It also has Imperial Guards' flag... And something that looks like the flag of the Netherlands turned upside down or a French flag turned 90 degrees. Weird... :)
  17. Which ship (original Pirates theme only!) has the best figurehead? Caribbean Clipper: Renegade Runner: Black Seas Barracuda: Skull's Eye Schooner: Red Beard Runner: (SES's and RBR's figureheads are almost the same, but still a bit different) Cross Bone Clipper: The last choice in the poll is for those who don't like figureheads and think ships could do without them (Imperial Flagship and Armada Flagship didn't have any). And perhaps you have some ideas of custom figureheads that you think would look great? Perhaps some examples of such figureheads made by you or by someone else to show here?
  18. Those were true adventure games, the kind we don't see released these days. I still have Monkey Island 2 on my Amiga. I once played Lego Racer 2 on PC and Red Beard was unavailable in character creating mode (I chose Sam Sinister's face instead). Perhaps you could meet him somewhere further in the game, I don't know.
  19. Actually I meant Imperial Flagship, but I've done some checking today and the Armada Flagship's main sail is exactly the same size as Imperial Flagship's so it doesn't make any differene.
  20. The RBR's sails are bigger than those of the BSB or CC. I believe they are just as big as the SES's sail with skull printed on it although I'm not sure since I don't have SES's original sails. Imperial Flagship's main sail is the same size as Red Beard Runner's sails (not counting the smaller aft sail of course) and it's bigger than CC's or BSB's sails.
  21. You mean round 1x1's like in the Black Seas Barracuda? Well, it's all a matter of taste. I like the square railings as well as the round or specialised railing parts like those green curved ones seen in Armada Flagship or the straight black ones in Red Beard Runner. For this ship I wanted the railing to look just the way it does. Other options are saved for other ships of mine.
  22. I think this is the best part of the ship - it looks really sinister, like a pirate ship should. The rigging mentioned above looks really a bit out of place... Also the cannons located on the upper level (the bridge) look like they're just about to fall overboard, but that may just be my impression.
  23. It is supposed to represent someone important, probably even King Neptune or some counterpart of his. And yes, it was made due to availability of pieces. I didn't want to make a female figurehead like the one of the BSB because female faces are too precious for me and I use them for "real" women. The long white beard would fit here but unfortunately it can't be used together with the crown. This question made me think about creating a thread concerning figureheads, I'll give it some thought and then start such thread. Now back to the ship. As I mentioned before, it is a merchant vessel, however I still can't decide what nation it belongs to. It has a huge cargo bay with two hatches and a crane with can be used for loading goods into the cargo bay and unloading them off the ship. The sailors live of course in the forecastle, we can't see its interior but we can see two entrances to that section - a hatch and a door. Since it's not a warship, the vessel is not heavily armed - it has four cannons. Here you can see the captain (the one in the hat at the top of the picture) and his second in command - a girl. They don't have any names yet as I don't even know their nationality. The captain's quarters consist of two rooms - a bedroom and a room with a table where the captain can eat, study maps and write in his log. You can gain access to his quarters by opening the roof.
  24. I shall post no more in this thread. One reason is that each MOC should really require a separate thread, and the other is that I've recently bought a digital camera and thus I removed most of old brickshelf galleries of mine. Now I'm going to replace them with new, better-looking pictures - not all at once, but with time all my creations will be reintroduced. And I probably will inform about them all (and my completely new creations as well) in new threads. You can see the first one of them here. Hope you're interested. The admins are welcome to close this thread here.
  25. Welcome all. Since I'd finally bought a digital camera, I once again took pictures of my merchant ship. Hope you can see it better now. The gallery is here. Hope you enjoy it.
