The 4+ map? I don't have the 4+ map... Do you mean it is supposed to be mounted to the wall? No... well, I think I'll write the answer soon... But not yet... Look what's on the other side of that wall, and you'll see everything, it's not that hard! ;-)
-
You're right it was very common, however in this case it serves a completely different purpose - no torch is mounted to it, but something else is and it's not a coincidence that this opening leads outside of the ship. I just made a better picture: Perhaps the more precise question will be: What is its function here?
-
And now a little quiz for careful MOC watchers. Look at this picture: Just next to the lower window, the one with the white lattice, on its right side you can see a little hole. It's adjacent to the window's upper right corner. It's not completely visible so I'll make it easier: this is the back side (the rectangular opening) of this brick: (the piece also known as the washing mashine). My question is: what is this? I didn't put it there because I lacked normal 1x1 brick, this little element serves a purpose. You can find the answer if you take a close look at some of the other pictures in the gallery (and remember, there are TWO pages of thumbnails in the gallery!). Anyone interested in the challenge?

I have an Insectoid set with two of those, BTW I feel a little lost, can someone clarify for me: is this equation correct: bley = new dark gray = DkStone or this one: bley = new light gray = MdStone (so that bley stands generally for new gray) Where am I wrong and where am I right? All those new colours got me confused... *wacko*

Yes, however I think that if I were to make custom torsos, it would be better to make completely new and original torsos (or perhaps use new torsos made by someone else, like those made by mister Anthony Sava that we've been shown lately - courtesy of mister JoshW) rather than try to falsify something that Lego had made before. I think they wouldn't look as good as real Broadside's torso anyway, so it'd be better to make something that Lego never produced and therefore cannot be compared to the original, not to mention that it'd result in greater diversity. So if I make custom torsos one day, they won't be replicas of actual torsos, they will be completely new torsos or torsos looking like the original ones but in different colours (like some of those made by Mr Sava).
-
Actually I came up with it while thinking about ways to create more different factions in my pirate collection. However as I only have 2 Woodhouse torsos and 3 Broadside torsos, there was no use of trying it. Maybe one day...
-
Once I came up with an idea that if someone had a lot of Admiral Woodhouses and Governor Broadsides, he could make even four different armies: stantard bluecoats, standard redcoats, bluecoats wearing Broadisde's jackets and redcoats wearing Woodhouse's jackets. One of the possible ways to do it is to use standard bluecoats as the British and Broadside bluecoats as the French...

Answering to both Mister Phes' and Sir Dillon's posts: As I said I expected this ship to be regarded too tall. However I was quite stubborn to make it a rather small (= short) ship AND build separate quarters for 6 crew members (2 in the forecastle, 4 in the sterncastle). I don't want to talk too much about it as it may all end up as just plans, but I'm thinking about making a kind of a comic book, where the main characters will be travelling on the Valour, and that's why I wanted to have these quarters as sort of indoor scenery. I also wanted the ship to be not so big. So while building it I was thinking about the story, but I'm not sure if the story will ever be created. That's why I didn't even mention it before. For now let's just say I have made the ship and what's gonna happen next - that we will see.

It will be all in a Custom Pirate Minifigs thread I will create as soon as I have time to take some pictures. Or if someone has some pictures of his own such minifigs he is welcome to create such thread now and I will join it as soon as I've taken my pics.
-
I used the vampire torso shown earlier in this thread for a pirate captain. I had to do this because I used all classic Captain Redbeard's torsos for custom Spanish soldiers. I think they fit well, and so does the vampire torso - just add epaulettes, pirate captain's hat, a hook and a pegleg are always welcome and you've got a good-looking pirate captain.
-
Great stuff! I didn't expect Pirate torsos to be available on Classic Castle! They might be very useful if you want to create a custom army and need uniforms other than the original. I must try designing a custom torso myself some day!
-
Agreed. Perhaps female soldiers don't make sense since AFAIK women weren't allowed in the army back then... But pirates have no such restrictions or regulations, they can do anything they want... The Durmstrang hull = the 4+ hull minus the middle section and in different colours. And I hope they never use it again as well :-) I think such colours would fit Pirates better than they fitted the KK2. Pirates were known for wearing eccentric, colourful clothes. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see a ship full of pink-shirted pirates by any means, that would still be bad, but not as completely, hopelessly bad as it was with KK2.

Planing on building a Medieval Boat/ship.

I have one complete dark gray hull, will use it in the future, but it will have to wait as I have other things planned to do first. But it's probably gonna be a Pirate MOC... So with this one extra bow section you will have to make a custom stern section to build a ship... I have a similar problem as I have one SES's bow section (red over brown) but no stern sections, I think I'll make a shipwreck using this one sometime... -
I read it the first time you wrote it, just didn't have time to elaborate on that until now... Actually I think it's worth a new topic. I've been planning on making a topic about custom Pirate minifigs, something like this one, but this time about all kinds of minifigs, not just admirals. I was planning on showing some examples of my custom soldiers, pirates and civilians and encourage other people to do so as well. I'll be ready when I take some photos... They use Castle, Adventurers, Ninja, Western and even some Town torsos and heads. I think you can find suitable parts in many different themes apart from those. Harry Potter would probably be a good source, however I don't own any HP sets. But, well, in the topic I posted a link to above you can see the ship's surgeon I made using the torso from Spider-Man 2... So there's a lot of suitable parts around, just have to look for them... Unfortunately in this case I didn't have any free torsos to make custom civilian minifigs so the striped shirts had to do this time.

Warning! Due to the fact that I'm still editing the Valour's brickshlef folder (changing some photos to better ones and adding some), it might be temporarily inaccessible during the next 24 hours, after that all modifications will stop and the folder will remain public. Please be tolerant! I suspected the height would be controversial, I even considered removing the top floor from the sterncastle (still not sure if this word really exists), however I decided to leave it for the reasons given in the first post - I like the way it looks now, even though it isn't very realistic.
-
They aren't pirates! And this is not a pirate ship. Not every sailor in a striped shirt is a pirate! This is a common belief among Lego fans which must be fought! Even some original Lego sets have minifigs who look like pirates but aren't pirates - check the Imperial Flagship. It really looks narrow on the picture I posted here, on the other pictures it doesn't look narrow to me. But that may look different for someone else. They are made of paper, as I've already mentioned ;-) After some experiments with various materials, including canvas and satin, I decided not to use cloth sails, apart from original Lego sails of course... Perhaps one day I'll change my mind...
-
The answer is obvious... Resistance is futile! :-) Now about the Wolf: I said that before and I'll say it again: I wish I had enough brown bricks to build a good looking, almost completely brown ship like this one... It's a great little ship and I really enjoy watching ships like this, a nice change from those green/white/yellow/red/blue etc ships that we see so often.
-
It's no problem to print on these sails as they are made of paper, I just didn't feel like printing in this particular case (however they have a white canvas pattern printed on them, it's not just plain paper). Point taken and you're probably right, however all my latticed windows are somewhere else at the moment :-) Perhaps I'll try and change them some time. It's all in the Brickshelf folder... I just noticed I didn't post a direct link to the folder - silly me. But I did post the link to MOCpages where you can find that link... Well, here's the direct link to the folder anyway. You can see the pictures of all the quarters there! Do it! ;-) I don't have the SES, but with the BSB this can be easily arranged. Just stay in touch! Thanks for the review!

It's a British ship, not a military unit though. I wanted it to use no more wide hull pieces than the Caribbean Clipper, but to be more detailed. I also wanted it to be manned by a crew of six, everyone having his own quarters (you can see only 5 minifigs on the pictures, but eventually it will be manned by a totally different crew). As a result, with all this stuff in place, the ship looks a bit too tall, especially the stern. It's unrealistic but personally I don't think that's bad - IMO it gives the model a nice, slightly cartoonish feel. And, BTW, I've recently created an account on www.mocpages.com, so please visit my page, write your comments and rate the MOCs. So far I've only put this ship and The Red Dragon there, but it will be updated soon. You can even copy and paste your comments from Eurobricks - I don't mind :-) I'll also put a link from each MOC on mocpages to the corresponding thread here on Eurobricks. My mocpages page is here: http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/3922 EDIT: THe Valour's Brickshelf folder is right here.

These hull pieces don't actually belong to the Pirate theme. The only set in which they can be found is 6493 from the Time Cruisers line. EDIT: Mr Norro was faster :) -

Here's another cog I came across today while browsing recent brickshelf folders. Folder. -
Well, actually I was wrong - there was a story behind the original Pirates - the comic book! But the rest of my post stands - they simply shoudn't try to make fake POTC.
-
So why exactly does one of the knights have his legs backwards? Are they supposed to be broken or something?
-
What Lego should do now is release a new System Pirates which couldn't be confused with POTC in any way, as this title is reserved to MegaBloks. So there shouldn't be one main minifig character (or a few characters) with a name, nor should there be a story behind the sets, just the sets alone like they did with the original Pirates. I wouldn't like it if Lego made new Pirate sets which would look something like "alternative POTC", in other words - something inspired by POTC but looking different as they don't have the license. So no POTC rip-offs, just new, distinct Pirates.

Emperor's Ship Pic Review
Dreamweb replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This was the first new set I bought in a shop after a few years of not buying any Lego at all. Because, you see, although I actually never had a period in my life known as the dark age, I did have two periods when I didn't buy any new Lego (or used Lego, for that matter), just kept using the stuff I already had. And this set ended the second of these periods. I thought it was so great I just had to buy it. So it has some sentimental value for me.
