That's strange - all pictures are small except for one which is VERY big...
-
Agreed, the original ship is very high. However, I think this MOC would look better had he made the masts taller - for now they look short compared to the hull and to the picture of the real ship. In the real ship the masts are about 3 times as tall as the hull, while in this MOC they look just a bit taller than the hull (it's hard to tell as I couldn't find a good picture of the masts, this one is the best I found).
-
That's what I suspected... Well, let us know when the new pictures are ready...

17b I came across this one some time ago on MOCpages. I'm quite surprised it hasn't been discussed here yet, so I decided to create a thread about it. I'll wait with my own comments until later, now I'm interested in what you think about it. For now I can only tell you it's one huge ship! :-) The brickshelf gallery is here, the MOCpages page is here.

It's a great MOC and the colours remind me of the official Soldier/Imperial Guard forts, apart of course from the fact that it's much bigger and much more detailed. It has the spirit of the official sets, but the performance is much better.
-
Well, it looks much better with these sails! The overall look improved by 100% or more. Looking at this picture makes me wonder - is the upper deck placed on hinges or is it just loosely lying on the lower deck and can be removed entirely from the ship? I think it's on hinges, but I can't see it clearly.
-
Perhaps we could do something similar but simpler - let's just start a topic called "Pictures of our Pirate collections" - something like the "Which Pirate Lego sets do you have" thread, but instead of giving set numbers and so on, everyone should make pictures of his Pirate Lego - MOCs, built sets, loose Pirate minifigs and accessories, boxes - anything Pirate-related that you have.
-
I don't want to sound pessimistic, but even if they do revive the Pirate line, it might be very disappointing. I mean, I might be wrong, and please correct me if I am, but how many times has Lego relaunched a line which had been gone for several years, with the new sets as great as the old ones? Isn't the answer NEVER? The only example of relaunching I know is Castle, and that's only if you assume that KK2 is a continuation of Castle, which is an arguable statement. But let's assume for a moment that it's true. And we all know how bad those KK2 sets are... Surely we don't want this to happen to Pirates.

From a Lego set point of view, this is a huge fortress. As it was mentioned before, everything is smaller in Lego System scale, not only literally, but also relatively to the number of people (minifigs) and so on. The ships are good examples - the Imperial and Armada Flagships would be only small cutters in real life, BSB and SES would also be small ships with their crews of less than 10 each. Considering all this, I voted for 'the be all and end all of Imperial Guard Fortresses'. This is of course only in comparison to other System sets (Pirate or else), MOCing is a different story. Surely you can build a fortress which would make Eldorado look like a small meaningless navy post, or a ship which would make BSB and SES look like lifeboats. We've seen such examples in the past. That's the beauty of MOCing! I totally agree, however in this very case we are talking about a '3D' set, which has back walls and is a building which is 'complete'.

You should definitely remove the upper deck. Or keep it but make the ship much longer and a bit wider to keep the right proportion. And it definitely needs strings and sails! What I do like are the colours - a really nice combination.
-
Great job! I think both new versions are definitely better than the original. I prefer the one with 3 masts and longer hull myself, only because if you have a bigger and a smaller version of the same ship, the bigger ship usually looks better, just because it's bigger. And it's not only about your ship, but almost any ship. But the 2 mast version is also great. The original ship was really out of proportion.
-
I agree that this ship should only have 2 masts, considering its length. It looks weird with these three masts mounted so close to each other. Apart from that it's a very nice MOC with a great "scary" feel.

I think I'll put that in my signature so I don't have to repeat it all over: Not every sailor in a striped shirt is a pirate! These here aren't.

I like the idea of a group picture. I have to think about a new minifig for my avatar... the one you can see now no longer exists. It was the old version of De Rode Draak's captain and can be seen aboard her. I want my avatar to show an existing minifig. As soon as I think of something new I can post some larger photos for the group picture.

Late, but really helpful, thanks! You can see the sail pattern on the last picture in the gallery. They aren't plain white. About the model itself - I've redesigned it recently as I began to think it was too colourful. I've replaced most of the yellow bricks with white bricks to make it look more "monolithic". I'll post the pictures soon.

I wonder if many of you have noticed a little reference to the first MK game I've made - MK1 had Reptile as a hidden character, so I've made a "hidden" Reptile as well - the actual minifig can't be seen anywhere, but here you can see Reptile being burnt during Sonya's fatality (the picture suggests that he can be found somewhere in the "game", just like in MK1).

I was considering making The Pit stage, perhaps one day I will... Or maybe someone else :-D ... "Tormented trees"? You mean the Living Forest stage? That would be hard for me as I have very little brown bricks :-( As I said maybe I'll continue the project one day... I was quite surprised to see how little MK MOCs there are... Actually I've only managed to find this logo and a few custom minifigs from newer games on MOCpages. About my minifigs - Johnny Cage is inspired by what he looked like in the first game (back in the times when his hair was black, not brown), and so are Kano, Liu Kang and Sonya Blade (her hair was rather brown than light blonde like in the 3rd and later parts). Rayden and Kitana are inspired by MK2.

Megabloks Pyrates and Pirates of the Caribbean Sets
Dreamweb replied to Akkhraziel's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yes, we know about it, this subject has been discussed in Pirates of the Caribbean Lego thread. Let MegaBloks take care of POTC, and meanwhile let Lego return to their original, not licensed Pirates! -
Why should I, there already is one: Goro Vs Nightwolf Liu Kang Vs Goro Goro wins!

I was quite a big MK fan back in the old days (a freak would be a better word perhaps). I spent quite a lot of time playing all parts up to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. During those years, being a Lego fan as well, I tried to approach the subject in Lego form on numerous occasions. However the quality of those experiments was never satisfactory. Only recently I decided to give it one more try, for old times' sake. I mean I still play MK from time to time, but I'm nowhere near my past skills. So here are the results, in the form of a made-up video game called "Mortal Kombat - Brickality". I've had a really great time making these MOCs. They are generally inspired by 2D parts of the game, up to MK Trilogy, but remember that they are also kind of my free interpratation of the MK series. The gallery will perhaps be updated with new moves, new fatalites, perhaps even character bios and stuff like that, and perhaps it won't - it all depends on the amount of my free time, my future interest in the project and the feedback it will get. Oh, and just in case let's write it: Warning! This gallery contains strong graphic violence presented using Lego bricks! Brickshelf folder Fight!

You've just rejected what is by many MOCers (and Lego fans in general) considered one of the greatest virtues of BSB - the neutrality of her sails. They lack Jolly Rogers so they can be used in any ship. And yet you say they look like pirate sails anyway :-) Personally, I think red and white sails fit the soldiers. The Imperial Guards wear red uniforms, their flags (which I used here) have red and white stripes as well... The Imperial Flagship had red stripes, though with a tan background... I really coudn't have used blue and white sails. If you look at the top sail on the main mast (the taller mast), you will see it's not an original BSB sail. It's a smaller sail cut from BSB sail. Normally I wouldn't have done that, but that sail was fatigued and incomplete anyway (it had been damaged by its previous owner from whom I bought one of my BSBs). I don't have Carribean Clipper's sails damaged in the same fashion and I certainly don't want to destroy them on purpose. I like this interpretation very much. I never thought of it, however once, when I had a Spanish BSB, I made up a similar story - that BSB was a Spanish ship stolen by the pirates.

I've just added the link to the new MOCpages page, it's in the first post, and if you're lazy - it's also here.
-
It says the 7880 Pirate ship was released in 1998 :-)
-
No, it's quite obvious, really. If you look closely you can see that one of the sails (the smallest one) is of a custom shape and size - Lego never released a sail like this, that's why I had to use at least one custom sail. So I used 3 which were inspired by Imperial Flagship's sails. During the time I was making the 1st version I didn't have enough original sails either, but despite having acquired them later I didn't change them anyway. I just liked them the way they were. However, it's all in the past. Please recheck the first post of this thread and check the new Brickshelf gallery, as soon as it's public!
