  1. Yes, just no middle section... It was one of the first MOCs I saw after registering here :)
  2. I'm pretty sure there was one more Armada Flagship-inspired MOC discussed somewhere in here a long time ago, it was a small ship with no middle sections... I searched the forum but couldn't find it! Maybe it was lost somehow... Anyway, if I might make a suggestion about this index and all indices in general - in case of MOCs which have their threads on this forum, wouldn't it be better if the thumbnails were links to the threads, not to brickshelf galleries? We can assume every thread has a brickshelf link in it. That way someone studying the index may easily post comments on the featured MOCs in their threads. Of course MOCs with no threads on this forum would still be linked to brickshelf folders. Sorry if this has been discussed before, it's not easy to remember or find all discussions that take place here! :)
  3. Absolutely! Then of course, I don't think we have enough reviewers with enough spare time to do all that work :)
  4. That would be a good solution indeed! It would be really a shame not to finish this MOC, as it looks very promising! I always thought he 4+ hull looks too short with one middle section, but with two the proportions are much better. And all the details you added make it a nice and BIG ship.
  5. Definitely the featured MOC is a *y* idea, perhaps there should even be a few of them - like "this months most noteworthy MOCs" or something. After all it's possible to have more than one great MOC at the same time, and we wouldn't want to harm any of the builders by not noticing them...
  6. Why did that happen? Anyway, I gave it a 4. The only thing this ship is really missing is the helm. It would've only taken about 3-4 more bricks to add it, nothing Lego couldn't have handled. Apart from that it has anything a medium-sized set like this one should have (I don't think such a small boat would need an anchor). And I actually like the blue pieces many of you are complaining about - it's a nice change from typical black. And one of the biggest virtues of this set was that it was perfect for those who wanted a pirate ship but didn't have enough money to buy one of the big ones - it was this set that made it possible for them.
  7. From what I see, it would be quite easy to build those Dannish troops - with red coats and blue trousers. Anyway, I voted for soldiers some time ago, but now I'll explain why. I like them more because they were the first ones introduced, and the Imperial Guards looked the same but with different colours. What a lack of originality! If Lego had made them more innovative, then I'd like them more. They should've introduced red uniform, but with slightly different design, not a copy of the blue one. As it is, I always considered redcoats a rip-off of the bluecoats, and thus they were always inferior to me.
  8. I voted for the Viking ship. It's a great ship but one should definitely remove this silly catapult or whatever it is. But apart from that it's a beauty. But if I were to choose which one is the most useful for pirate MOCs, I'd say Flying Time Vessel.
  9. I'm afraid you're wrong Mr. Norrington. Look how the stones on the ramp are placed relatively to the studs - they're not the same. It looks like it's the same pattern, but it's placed differently. The same goes for the cliffs - the patterns of rocks and water are the same, however on the right baseplate the pattern is moved down compared to the left baseplate, and that's why the water line is lower too. Actually it looks like it's moved not only down but also right, however it's hard to tell as we don't see the whole baseplates here. Actually, the distance and direction in which the pattern on the cliff is moved looks exactly the same as the one of the ramp/top pattern. If you look at the picture, it looks like the whole pattern was moved "towards you" on the right baseplate.
  10. Mister Phes is right. That's why the red flag was much more feared than the black one. About the sails - AFAIK pirates didn't decorate their sails with skull and crossbones or any other piratical symbols. That would give their intentions away much too soon. This is something Lego made up to make their ships more visually attractive. And it's one more reason why I prefer the BSB to the SES.
  11. In this case I decided to put aesthetics above firepower :) Although I think the new Castle line is great, I don't like that ship very much. I think its stern ends much too abruptly. However, I might consider buying two such ships some day and making one bigger ship out of them. I might even try to make a Pirate-themed ship once more :-P :-D This however is pure speculation... I was kind of bored with my Viking longboat so I dismantled it and borrowed the hull :)
  12. Well, that's obvious that this hull looks constroversial in a Pirate MOC, and I understand why some of you think it doesn't fit... However, I like it exactly because of its "different" (and maybe even a little out of place) look. I like realistic MOCs, but I equally like strange MOCs, and that's it. ;-)
  13. Thanks for the comments. I was thinking of angling the cabin, but finally decided not to - not every ship has to have a cabin in the very rear section - does it? The cannons are small because they had to fit the small gunports, and I couldn't make bigger gunports due to my small amount of reddish brown bricks. And I wanted them to be colour-consistent so... :S La R
  14. I have no idea, someone much more experienced in naval terminology could try to name it :)
  15. I couldn't agree more. Recently I bought myself a pack of lime bricks - I never had any of these before, they'll definitely be useful in a MOC really soon :)
  16. 31c This is the ship I built for my whitecoat army - which in my Lego world represents the French. La Rvolution: Brickshelf gallery I experimented with the Viking ship's hull to see how well it would work in the Pirate theme. The white horns at both sides are of course supposed to be whale's bones - which were used as a decoration for ships in the pirate age. I tried to make the ship rather simple, however I did include the captain's quarters with some interior details (see here and here). The ship is also armed with custom cannons. Now my French faction can finally sail the seven seas ;-) PS. Can a MOD change the "r" to "R" in the ship's name in the topic's title, it seems I can't do that :P
  17. This doesn't look like something made out of bricks, even though it is (well, sort of anyway). To me it rather looks like some kind of action toy or what do you call it. So it's definitely not my interest.
  18. Definitely Black Seas Barracuda - #1 of all Lego sets, not just Pirates. The Imperial Trading Post has a good chance of becoming my second-favourite Pirate set, however I don't own it so I can't be sure. Of those that I do have, I think the Eldorado Fortress would be my #2.
  19. I thought so, just wanted to make sure ;) Oh, and BTW, the crab looks really nice! Steampunk is slowly becoming my favourite non-official Lego theme (the favourite official one being of course Pirates!).
  20. Do you imply that my MOC is Time Twister/Cruiser related? :) Well, it does use Flybo's hull's bottom part (the top part is from Renegade Runner), but I don't see too much resemblence myself ;)
  21. I'm from Poland. COBI is a Polish brand and it's very popular in here. I have one COBI set, bought it a few years ago, mainly out of curiosity. The quality of plastic is really good, better than most clone brands I've seen. The bricks are really compatible with Lego, but some of the colours are quite different (especially grey and tan of those which I have). Minifigs have identical shape (I think COBI introduced fleshtones before Lego, but it's a different shade as well), but you can't rotate their hands or remove them from their arms - they are simply glued, well, the ones that I have at least...
  22. Thanks john cleese, these are all perfectly valid arguments and I will consider them. Like I mentioned before, this is my first ever attempt at making anything steampunk-related, so you can hardly call ma a "steampunker" :) I will try and improve it when I find some time and inspiration. The valve is not a steering wheel used in the water, it's just a... valve :) The wheel used in water is the bigger wheel next to the starboard yellow seat. Sorry to disappoint you :)
  23. Well, I think that's what steampunk is about - putting realism aside for a moment and building things that look as weird as possible...
  24. First I'd like to say that I love watching steampunk MOCs, I just never had the opportunity to build one, until now. So, allow me to introduce the PUWALV: Prototypical Universal Water and Land Vehicle. On the upper picture you can see it traveling in water, while on the lower picture it's in its 'land mode'. On this picture on the right you can see the eccentric Professor Lophophore - the inventor of the vessel. Here's a closeup of the engine, and here you can see the helm - the bigger wheel controls the rudder, and the smaller one is used while driving on the land. A lever is used to switch from one mode to another. Here's the whole eccentric gallery.
