  1. Hope Smaug will be brick built to allow its gigantic size... (save all the molds we can for the cool stuff, and reuse as much as possible - or go brick built)
  2. Brilliant stuff, although it is a bit weird that bilbo is taller than Gandalf. I know Bilbo is the central figure thus needs to be on top, but this is better done by seating Gandalf imo. Nevertheless, I love it.
  3. Hello Forum, my very first moc, be gentle please, but do not spare critics. I know the background is a little unimaginative, that is because I just started again with Lego and currently I am focussed on the minifigs. The scene is from the time Aerys’s mental health began to decline. Tywin Lannister is still at court, and Aerys has just discovered wildfire but not yet used. He is preparing for it though and his son Rhaegar is clearly appalled. (The lightning of the scene was provided by my LEDs-lights and did not need to be photoshopped. Though if I should have, please tell me) The scene: Full size here: The minifigs: Aerys with the Wildfire: Rhaegar and Tywin: Regards
  4. Why? I think they have the best heraldry in ages, and not just because I like Targaryens
  5. To be honest, the Starks traditionally have black hair, and Eddard also did, so at least a black hairpiece would be better, although I certainly agree on using Bean's face. As for the Iron Throne itself: gorgeous!! The only way to make it better is to replace that purple shield with the heater shield of the wolfpack - has a much better wolf, colour and mirrors the lion heater shield. Don't take these suggestions as an offense, I thoroughly enjoyed these pics. I am a ASOIAF-fan and would definetly like to see more of your mocs!
  6. Someone had an archaeology lesson, I like! Really good stuff, especially the pastas-houses. (or is it prostas ... ? Ah, that was ages ago...) On the contrary: Hippodamos rules!
  7. Indeed, especially if you are living in continental Europe, where Lego prices are twice as high. I am a die-hard LotR-fan and I earn quite some money, but even I had to think hard about some sets before I bought them. No way kids could be doing this, unless their parents are rich or so. Even for the key three - Aragon, Legolas and Gimli - you need to spend a lot. Keep in mind: LotR-fellowship-Legolas is only available in Moria's mines! So you will have to combine it with Helm's Deep or Weathertop, putting you well into the 140 Dollar/Euro price range. And that is a lot. So have to agree with Deathleech, it is probably too expansive for most. Fortunately the Corsair-Ship will adress this problem. (Too late for me, but there is ebay).
  8. What's more:The whole point of Sauron in the LotR-books/films is to have an non-corporal evil. Fortunately Jackson had enough brains to understand that and cut Sauron from the Battle at the Black Gate. Besides, I never liked Jackson's idea of Sauron's armour. Sure I know I am in a minority with this opinion, but rejoice: there are evil captains we have not seen yet, the Witch-King, Gothmog, Grima and the Southron-commander (although totally different from the Black Serpent in the book). I think can all agree at least on the Witch-King's importance.
  9. Being a classicist, I like that very much and hope to see more
  10. Nothing short of amazing! I especially like St.George (even with the English red cross on white shield) and those Rohan shields are a perfect match for the last Dragon knights. Have to remember that... May I ask where the dragon's head is coming from, the one St.G slays?
  11. It's even worse with Thorin's Company. Despite having a quite considerable budget for Lego I gave up on that and will restrict myself to ebay and the likes to get the dwarves. Re: the Orthanc The tower itself is not exactly full of possibilities for play features like Helm's Deep was for example. The architecture itself is not too fancy neither. I love it and I'd certainly buy, but the Orthanc is really just for AFoLs I think - which is why I do not think we will see many minifigs. However there is the chance of Grima, who would not require new molds just printing. Again, he probably has little appeal to children or casual parent buyers, yet for us he is a must-have. He adds to the attractivity of the tower to the whole AFoL-community. Add Saruman, since you have done him already anyway, and we have a fine set for collectors. But I really do not see any way the Orthanc could be made a children's/casual buyers set.
  12. Well, of course I share the general disappointment about the generic orcs, but let's face it: orcs are a somewhat generic evil, and the good guys always got more attention from Lego I feel. I mean there are more important things than new orcs, which only could be told apart by some 'nerds' (like me): the Gondorians or Southrons would be far more distinctive and thus more recognisable by even casual fans (and parents/friends looking for presents). I must admit, if I had the choice of a new orc print with new armour molds, or a Gondorian soldier including all his new molded stuff, I would choose the latter any day. And I think most of us would. I don't think we will ever see a new orc, unless in The Hobbit-sets. So we should be fair to Lego and hope for more RotK-sets with the Witch King, Gondorians, Southrons, armoured Trolls, Easterlings etc...
  13. Fair point.
  14. Relax, Book 6 has not even been published, much less Book 7. It is speculation on his/her part.
  15. Docks and such were probably out because of the price tag, besides there was not much of a dock structure shown in the movie - non that one would remember. I had to look it up and even then it was totally unremarkable. Siege equipment offers more playability than a quay-wall or stairs leading into the water (and there was not more). And why would you think you'd get real Mordor orcs when there are non in the Black Gate neither? ...nor any other set for that matter. Rest assured I do not like it anymore than you do. I think one goes best by considering Lego-Peter Jackson just that: a Peter Jackson minifig added as a goodie for the fans. I like that gesture, but it is nothing more to me. Sure I would have liked the corsairs more than the orcs (especially the generic orcs), but the Arrival at Harlond is a more important scene. And it is no small scene: it is the damn turning point of the damn biggest battle of whole triology! We'll see. In any case, the Corsair ship makes a good ASOIAF-galley with little modification, I think.
  16. Ha, same here - but I discover new things I do not like. The gold (Lion) and silver (Dragon) highlights on the armour are too strongly accentuated, imo. Therefore the colour balance seems a bit off, but I would have to see the minifigs in person. Still, I am pretty sure to buy a lot of at least the baddies. As for the 'good' guys, I never liked the lion. Even as a kid, I was for the Eagles. Back then, there were no good or evil factions. But even when there were such, I liked the Wolves and the Dragons more than the Lions. And now with the Lion being Lannister's sigil I have trouble seeing the Lion Knights as good, no matter how 'good' their faces are painted.
  17. Well, to me the big dragon head is most welcome. But, since I am currently reading asoiaf I scan Lego for anything that could be used to recreate the lands of Westeros and Essos, therefore my joy about the red dragon on black. Besides, it is simply a classic colour choice, albeit not very original (but that what classic means...).
  18. Nothing odd here, the scene is clearly the arrival at Harlond, the harbour of Minas Tirith, that's why there are orcs and some of their siege weaponry. Lego-Peter Jackson is just icing on the cake; if the corsairs were to be represented it surely would have been the captain, not some fat crewman who did nothing but getting shot ;) Actually, the set grows on me the more I see of it. It may become my first Lego ship ever... I also could imagine it easily rebuild for some Free Cities galley from asoiaf, should Dany go west.
  19. I never understood that thinking tbh. LotR is big enough to stand on its own feet and imo it already does! Or is it really dependend on The Hobbit? How so? Person A: "What is this Lord of the Rings stuff?" Person B: "Didn't you see The Hobbit? Its the same universe" Person A: "Oh yeah, great. Now I'll buy that Lord of the Rings Lego!" Or more like: Person A: "Yeah, I saw The Hobbit. Let's buy Helm's Deep!" I admit having no idea of how business works (I don't need to in my job), but that I cannot not imagine at all...
  20. Wizard Battle: must buy. Great little set, well designed and finally with Saruman! It may have even worked without Gandalf, but for some, this may be a selling point too. Is there a light brick for the palantir? Black Gate: looks less impressive than I had imagined and with at least 60 Euro it is a bit on the expansive site. Need to see it in person, but the build does not seem to thrill me... maybe I had imagined something meaner. Mixed feeling concerning the minifigs: the Lieutenant is great, Gondor-Aragorn is good albeit a bit lost since non of his Gondorian soldiers are there, Gandalf is a must-have but without his horse, and the orcs are business as usual (=quite bad). Council of Elrond: quite nice, but too small. I do not mean the downscaling which Lego always does. Selling point are the minifigs - for which I do not care. Go to the west, elves! Corsair: wow, if I were into ships this would be my number one set. I am usually not. But I appreciate a nice build when I see it. I don't like the (movie version) army of the dead, and having the Fellowship members already only the corsair itself attracts me a lot. Tough choice, really. With more corsairs instead of orcs I would probably buy it.
  21. Thanks a lot for the info! It would be so great to have the Orthanc, hopefully with the exclusive figure of Grima and, if my wishes come true, the Dunlending chieftain.
  22. Forgive my ignorance, since I am new on this forum, but is GRogall a Lego-Official, so that word is reliable? As I said, I'd hope so very much.
  23. That would be beyond great, my dream set! However... Please state and share your source, for I have missed it (and I am sure I am not the only one).
  24. But about the Gate resistance still was stout, and there the knights of Dol Amroth and the hardiest of the garrison stood at bay. Shot and dart fell thick; siege-towers crashed or blazed suddenly like torches. All before the walls on either side of the Gate the ground was choked with wreck and with bodies of the slain; yet still driven as by a madness more and more came up. Grond crawled on. Ready for the Wolf's Head I'd say
  25. So do I! I was always a fan of the Moria-Set, but the way you did improve it is just breathtaking.
