  1. When I wasn't sure what to do with or where to take Em and when I was getting tired of him a little I had Endgame take out his eye. It's helped me refocus and get a better read on where he is and his mental state, and gave me something to toy around with for his characterization. I'm not saying maiming is the way to go, but for me it made sense-- And ever since he's had his eye torn out I've liked him a lot more, he feels a lot more... I'm not sure what the word I'm looking for is, but nuanced might work? I'm having a lot more fun with him after him losing an eye, basically. What I'm saying is instead of worrying about a new character, break your own. Find out what would totally just. Break them. And then from there, work them back up.
  2. Battle Order: Mortimer retrieves Erdy's Handcannon from the Back Row. Annienal Avina attacks Briar with Zeta and Sigma from the Back Row, dual striking to Briar again. Keliim Calamity
  3. Mortimer nods, tossing a Lightning Bomb from the Back Row instead of picking up Erdy's Handcannon.
  4. There's a big difference between someone who likes killing and someone who likes fighting/honour/glory/etc. Someone who likes Killing is, to be frank, a bit of a terrible person. There's nothing good or redeeming about killing. There's no reason for someone who likes killing to be in the Heroica organization, really, because Heroica isn't really a place to go where someone wants to kill something. It's a place to help others. However, someone who likes fighting or the honour/glory that comes with fights? That's redeemable. They like the fight itself, like the adrenaline, and aren't focused solely on killing something. Certainly sometimes a character like that is going to wind up killing people, but that doesn't mean they enjoy the killing or find it necessary. It gives them a chance to be merciful, to be something beyond "I kill for sport because I enjoy it." It gives them an interesting moral dilemma (Something I Enjoy VS Something that is Morally Right). It gives them more of a ground to stand on and it gives more of a connection to Heroica as a organization and to the other Heroes (I Joined For Honour and Glory). A character doesn't have to be a goody-two-shoes to be good, and a character doesn't have to be "evil" to be "interesting and fresh and new." That's the difference between Evil and Neutral, in this case, I think.
  5. It's hard to class since I'm still not 100% sure about "who he is," but Mortimer is probably a True Neutral who's trying to become more of a Neutral Good.
  6. "Yeah, but that Demeter bomb packs a damn punch-- hell, if you think we need it, I'll toss a Lightning bomb."
  7. Mortimer spends a turn picking up Erdy's Handcannon from the Back Row. He barks orders, eye darting around the battlefield. It seemed to almost overwhelm him. "Keliim! We need to take care of the Sewer wolves first! The robots could help us out. Save your bomb for later." BO: Mortimer picks up Handcannon, Back Row Annienal Avina attacks Briar with Zeta and Sigma from the Back Row, dual striking to Briar again. Keliim Calamity
  8. What have I got that you'd be interested in?
  9. Mortimer uncorks an Ambrosia, chugging it back with a scowl. He glances around frantically for the Ogre, intent on getting his weapons back, colours blurring together. "Where's Erdy's damn handcannon?" he curses, hands balling into fists. "You still wanna go at these damn things alone, Reg? OOC: Anniversary medal should also have +1 in each stat. Thanks!
  10. The Axepeord would be great on a Vindicator build because of Zweihander grip (unless I'm misunderstanding something). That's what had me drooling about it, to be honest.
  11. Mortimer hastily plucks the Phoenix Essence out of the air, pocketing it. Thanks, Sandy!
  12. Mortimer's head jerks around, his lone eye scanning the area for the source of the crash. Unidentified noises spooked him. He quickly turns his attention back to Reg, sighing deep, now tense and on edge. "If you're keen on a fight, Goldjaw, let's step outside. I'll haul you out if I have to." OOC: I got a Phoenix Essence in the lottery
  13. Em stands, placing a strong arm on his ally's shoulder and glaring at him. "Keliim. Avina. Stop antagonizing the man." Mortimer bowed his head to Reg. "I understand your reluctance. I don't want this to come to blows. It's always such a waste to have to hurt decent people like you when I've had actual monsters to slay." He let the remark hang for a minute, running a thumb under his eyepatch, shrugging. "You give us what you know about the robots, we stay out of your hair. They're eager to have it come to blows, but I'd rather this stay peaceful."
  14. Mortimer makes eye contact with Reg, his lone eye snapping between Reg's two. "You know how heroes work, yeah? We get hired, we get the job done. So it's not about being good guys, it's about getting this done. We can help eachother out. You've no reason to refuse."
  15. Mortimer sighs, deep, and rubs his hand under his eye. This wouldn't be easy, he supposed. "Alright. Robot attacks in the city. What do you know?"
  16. Scanning the archives, looks like 17 on Quest 44. A Zepher/Endgame combo quest sounds like the best kind of terrifying. I need to get on a Zepher quest one of these days
  17. "You must be quite the popular customer, then," Mortimer compliments, glancing between the two ladies with a tired eye. His tone shifts, his voice more even and diplomatic. "You seem like a well-traveled lad. If you're lookin for entertainment, why don't we swap stories while those ladies figure things out, yeah?"
  18. Mortimer nods in greeting, his smile slightly skewed-- more of a scowl, to be sure. "Was just wondering what was going on over here. Awfully noisy, yeah?"
  19. Mortimer shrugs, knocking an armoured fist into his palm. "You shouldn't be so hellbent on bloodshed," he mutters, jerking his chin at the angry ladies by his side. "He seems... scum. I've no qualms with breaking scum." "Let's go."
  20. "You ever corner an animal? It fights harder." Em shook his head his head to clear it, pinching his nose. "How do we get rid of him, then? Scare him past his breaking point?"
  21. "Left. Place was too noisy," Em shrugs, eye still scanning the bar. "You talk to the crazy person? What's he like?"
  22. Mortimer works his mouth for a moment, pocketing the song for later. He rubs a thumb under his good eye, wondering if his vision was failing him quicker than he thought. He heads down the stairs, keeping a close eye on their target. As soon as everyone else wrapped up their preparations, he could approach.
  23. Mortimer nods deep. "A noble goal," he laughs lightly. "How 'bout I buy you two a drink, make that a little easier, yeah?"
  24. Em makes a conscious effort to keep from glaring. He jerks his thumb towards the bar with an exaggerated shrug, the plates of his armour clanking as they rose and fell. "Bar's the best place to hear stories," he starts. "You two look like you've got a few. What's a Helsinger, though?"
  25. Mortimer nods, patting a gentle hand on the hooded man's shoulder. "Thank you. You take care, Big Red." He nods a farewell towards Amethyst before continuing up the stairs to approach the woman with the hood and the bandaged humanoid with the hat.
