  5. "If you see an exit, let's move towards it," Mortimer barks, grabbing his handcannon. "Otherwise... I think we should defend ourselves."
  6. Mortimer's teeth grind together, his shield held firm in front of him. His eye snaps around the area, scanning the oncoming forces. "I can't believe this..." "Are we fighting?" he barks quickly, tone short, demeanor angry. "Or are you laying down your arms? Annienal? Calamity? Keliim? Avina?"
  7. Mortimer's eye narrows. "Old habits die hard. My life is not one so freely given to those I do not know." A long pause, thoughts clouding the warden's face. He thinks back to the heroes he's quested with, the friends he's made along the way, the friends he's lost. "I'd die for the greater good, not that you'd believe it."
  8. "You would condemn an orgnization based on mistakes?" Mortimer's hands clench into fists, his eye narrowing. "Perhaps there are some who deserve death for their crimes. Perhaps I stand among them. Heroica has done many things, Wally, and not all of them are good-- but they have done good things that nobody else is capable of. I have saved a race, just as I've ended one. I've saved lives, just as I've taken them." Mortimer shrugs, and his tone turns strangely diplomatic, his conviction and feelings bleeding through his words. "People need to die in order for others to be saved. Would you murder all of Heroica? Would you end their lives, or only the organization? If you only seek to disband them, you're not fixing the problem, only making it worse. The organization keeps people together, allows them to try to work for good. What will you do? If you imprison them, you're possibly condemning them to a fate worse than death. And if you're going to kill them..." Mortimer puts a hand on the pommel of Doppelganger, sighing again and rubbing under his eyepatch with a thumb. "If you kill them, you're no worse than we are. But these heroes, this party? They've done nothing to you. As far as I know, they've done naught wrong within Heroica. If you're motivated so strongly by revenge, then draw your blade, Wally, and come spill my blood. Test your conviction. I'm no swordsman; I can't see out of my left eye. You're young, agile. If you think I'm some murderer, consider all the lives you'd save by ending mine. To truly understand the weight of a life, you must take it."
  9. Here's Mortimer in all his eyepatched glory. That was a fun little hero creator, thanks for sharing!
  10. "As I feared..." Mortimer sighs, the pain in his voice clear. He closes his eyes, rubbing them, shoulders sagging. He looks away from the 'Eubric Knight,' unable to meet his gaze. "I really haven't changed, have I?" he mutters, shuffling his feet, mouth pulled into a thin, angry line. "You didn't know, did you, Avina?" For a long, silent moment he stands there, hands balling into fists, shoulders tensing and rising. Finally he raises his eye, cold-steel gaze boring straight into the gnome child-- "I'm sorry, Wally. I really am. Sorry for what I did, sorry for what I'm going to do."
  11. Mortimer knocks back an Ambrosia and hands Calamity a Mulled Wine. "That should help keep you from going down," he nods. "If the rest of you think you need some consumables, let me know. We've no idea what's behind that door. When you're all ready, let's go."
  12. "What about one of those Depleted Ether Cores?" Mortimer asks, glancing at the party. "You wanna see if it recognizes those?"
  13. Mortimer's brow creases with worry. "What is that?" he echoes. He inspects the door without getting too close, hand straying towards his handcannon. "I'd hazard to say we're on the right track, but..."
  14. Mortimer nods, thinking to himself for a moment. "A while back there was an underground village-- Zylstra, if I'm remembering right. Residents started going missing. Turns out shades were kidnapping them, possessing them. U'Reeka let them loose accidentally after finding some sort of machine in some sort of Forge... Experiments went wrong or something. I didn't understand it, I don't remember the details." He shakes his head, sighing. "Selerae was... One of the shades. The biggest one. Claimed she was some sort of spawn of the Moon Elves. I saw her mind, or... I think I did. She wanted vengeance. It was... messy. The Crimson Crown showed up and we ended up killing Selenrae and U'Reeka. I saw Hybros slit U'Reeka's throat with my own two eyes--" He pauses for a moment, sighing again and thumbing underneath both eyes. "I'm not sure what else to say. It's been a while. Perhaps Avina can explain better than I."
  15. Mortimer shakes his head slowly, closing his eye. "I'm... not eager to return. The residents were nice enough, but..." His voice trails off as he opens his eye, hooking his thumbs on his belt as he strode forward, mouth pinched into a thin line. "If U'Reeka survived, I can only fear Selenrae did the same. I can still feel where she touched my mind sometimes. It was..." A shiver shoots up the Warden's spine, and he waves a hand at Keliim. "All I know is that we're going to be in deep. Be on your guards. Let's go."
  16. "We let him go. He's no good to anyone dead," Mortimer states, nodding at the old man. "And he's not our loose end to tie up. Let's move."
  17. OOC: Important last-minute things came up so I'm going to be going away for a couple of days starting tomorrow with probably no internet access. I'll leave Kintobor as Party Leader and in control of Mortimer. Sorry for the inconvenience, at the latest I'll be back on Friday.
  18. Mortimer sighs, rubbing his eye, and glances at Avina. "U'Reeka is dead, is he not?" He lets the comment hang in the air, deep in thought. "Who was it that received the pieces? Better yet, when did U'Reeka return them? Avina, you've a better sense of time than I, I'm sure-- see if it matches up. And..." "Hold on, if the Ji Pei are after you, what are you doing in a Tritech lab?"
  19. Mortimer nods to Calamity with a grin, flashing a thumbs up as he continued his inspection.
  20. Mortimer looks around for anything of note while Annienal and Keliim grill the old man.
  21. OOC: Shouldn't I be at full health because of my Aura roll? Also, as far as the Wolfish Fedora is concerned, since we let the Sewer Wolves go, do we have the Wolfgang Rep now or will it only "come into effect" after the quest? Loot Division: Potions go to Calamity Lamp goes to Annienal The Wolfish Fedora (Which hadn't been given out prior) goes to Keliim Mortimer slapped gentle palms against his ears and looked around for signs of their man. "Shit, did we lose him?"
  22. Long live the king.
  23. Alright, thanks for explaining. If that's how he's playing his hand, I can understand it a lot better and it's certainly more fitting. But I don't-- Oh, thanks, Flipz. You explained it a lot better than I could. I basically agree 100% with what Flipz said. I get your reasoning, I can see it, but it doesn't make the most sense to me unless you are intentionally twisting it.
  24. I understand where you're coming from, but it baffles me why you think Lind is beyond corruption. I get that he's your character, and forgive me if I'm stepping on toes-- but it's as he said, he's made mistakes in the past. To top that off, is anyone really beyond corruption? If absolute power corrupts absolutely, then why is it that "not wanting" the position is going to save him from the hardships of being a King? I'm curious as to where you're coming from to push him so hard in the role of King. Do you think it would be an interesting turn of events for him? A cool way to develop his character? Or... Is it more for you than Lind? I'm sorry if I'm coming off as aggressive, that's not my intention-- I'm just very curious as to your thought process behind Lind as King, and I can't wrap my mind around it.
