  1. Thanks; I'm glad that you like it, despite its lack of fancy decor. I'm also glad that it was recognizable as an eyeball, but the building is going to be an ophthalmologist's office. If you want to see interiors for the soda shop or the town hall, you can find the topics here: Town Hall and Soda Shop (You'll have to scroll down in the Town Hall topic to see the more completed interior) I'll post interior shots of the ophthalmologist's when I complete the building. I could take some pics of the fish and chips stand's interior, if you wanted, but it's nothing spectacular.
  2. Still no guesses as to what the new building is? There's a big hint on the front of the building itself! (No, it's not a TV News station--those guys are just reporting on the new building going up) I'm also interested to hear what people think of the town's size and style. Technically, the buildings are on the Modular scale, but I doubt that they'd look that good next to the official sets, or the brilliant creations by many of the members here. So, I tend to think of them as sort of a Classic Town feel, but more complete, and on a Modular scale.
  3. I like it! I agree that the dimensions may be too similar, but if you want to fix that, you needn't change the restaurant: just put the bike shop in between the pizzeria and the Chinese restaurant. It really captures the feel of a good Chinese restaurant, with some Far-East decorations to draw people in. Very nice.
  4. Thanks! I'm glad you like it! I'll try adding more texture to the sand. As for the boardwalk, well, I don't have that many brown tiles after re-flooring the town hall, but I'll look into ordering some more.
  5. Thanks; though I have to admit, the seagulls aren't actually my design (though the ravens on the town buildings are). They came from an ad in the back of some LEGO instructions showing the new fire sets.
  6. The flower shop is great! It really captures the feel of an actual flower shop, both inside and outside. Good work with the sign, too!
  7. Many of you have seen my fish and chips stand; however, I have done some updating to the area around it. Here is my current beach: And another shot: The beach itself is somewhat separate from the rest of the town (it's on another shelf), but it is rather close to our (pretty plain) A-Frame This is the rest of the town. A new building is going up--cool points to the first person who can guess what it is.
  8. Very nice! I like the little coffee stand look it has. We have a couple of these in my town (including one with a gimmick: the servers are all women wearing bikinis. I've never been to that one, but I'm willing to bet that many of the people who have been don't necessarily go for the coffee).
  9. Hello, everyone. I have slightly changed the exterior of the soda shop. Here it is:
  10. Great review of a nice little set! I recently built it in white (I never had the original set) as a milk delivery van, and it works splendidly.
  11. Got it; I misread.
  12. Didn't Front just basically confirm that they are bendable?
  13. I like the size of the town, although some things do seem out of place: the farm in the middle of the town, the Christmas tree in the middle of the sidewalk, and the snow-covered winter toy shop, for example.
  14. I used to go back and forth between Town and other themes--Castle, Pirate, Space, one-off themes, etc. But I think that the reason I always came back to Town (and the reason I eventually stayed) is its expansiveness. I also like the detailed day-to-day aspect about it; the challenge of trying to create something small and detailed that looks like its real-life counterpart.
  15. If the design were unique, perhaps it would be stealing. However, there are many design points that LEGO's version has which yours lacks (and the other way round)--the only thing they really have in common is their being a big yellow box. Out of curiosity . . . what else do you think LEGO "stole" from you?
  16. The face was actually reused in a later Drome Racers set.
  17. Is the green similar to the green plate we got with the "Xtreme Tower" set?
  18. I'll agree that it has a greater color variety, and it does look cool; I guess the molded ray does look more like an eagle ray, but it still seems strange, like it would be if they went back to brick-built horses.
  19. I don't get why the manta ray is brick-built when we have a really good manta mold already.
  20. Man, I hope I get something. Of course, I don't have the best track record for these kinds of things--I once bought ten scratch tickets and won nothing--not even a penny.
  21. Good review! Just so you know, though, Bricklink isn't trying to mess things up. Here in the US, the original names for the baddies were Baron von Barron and Lord Sam Sinister--and Sinister was the one in the black suit, top hat, and glasses. I believe in other countries they were known as Mr. Hates and Slyboots. Of course, we also had similar weather-themed names in the original Adventurers; where many people had Dr. Kilroy and Pippin Reed, we had Professor Charles Lightning and Gale Storm, as well as the pilot Harry Kane (and I understand that Johnny Thunder was in some areas known as Sam Grant). It wasn't until the Orient Adventure line that LEGO finally gave everyone universal names.
  22. Great review. I recently re-constructed this set and used it as a Squidman vehicle--it works really well.
  23. Indeed. If it were included, we could have made a star-sized Mata Nui.
  24. This is absolutely incredible. I love the accurate hospital feel you've captured (classical architecture, new wings, etc.). The colors are perfect, as is the texture. Simply astounding. I would buy one, if it were an actual set (and if I had the money)
  25. Great review of a great set! Only one thing I wonder--could Rench possibly be a female? Kranxx's mother, perhaps? I say this based on a police log entry that comes up on the SP3 site: "Tuesday, November 17: Space monster baiting, 14:45 d.m., Pan-Galactic Cosmo-Zoo. Followed up on a report of a disturbance at the Supernova-Worm pen. Kranxx was trying to break through the containment nega-field. Said he thought it was his mother. That's crazy; everybody knows his mother is green, not purple." I doubt it . . . but still.
