Underwater Face-Off
Still Raindrop replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wow! I just saw what looked like a new topic with new replies, and didn't look at the date it was posted. Oops! Oh, and Brickenhead-town-dweller, did you notice the depth charges in Ocean Odyssey? -
Underwater Face-Off
Still Raindrop replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This was a tough one--particularly since I don't have either, so I was just going off the pictures (and I couldn't find any photo reviews, so that added to the difficulty). In the end, I went with 4888 Ocean Odyssey. I just like the look better, and it reminds me more of the old diver sets that I loved. -
LDD 4 is released!
Still Raindrop replied to Daedalus304's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hmm... I've found out more of my problem. It'll stay open indefinitely, until I start browsing in certain sections (like in the minifig category). I can open the category and be fine, but once I scroll down, it shuts down. It doesn't happen in all categories--just a few. -

I tried Superkalle's suggestion, and I am having the same problem as Jeffykins. -
LDD 4 is released!

Hmm... it will start up for me, but as soon as it gets to the opening screen, it shuts down. -
So, according to the new site, it's not Jack Raines, but Jake Raines. Relatively minor info, but it is a bit of a bummer for Eurobricks member JackRaines. I really like what I've seen so far from the preview site. I hope we'll get introduced to other characters soon.

Thanks--I may have to get a few of those open stud plates and try that out. I tried something similar with clear/trans-white round plates, but that didn't really look right. Those open stud ones look promising, though.

Binoculars don't look really good... I may have to remove the eye and turn it into some other sort of building.

I am currently furnishing my nearly-complete modular ophthalmologist's office, but I seem to have run into a problem. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make a realistic, or even good-looking, phoropter (the tool that ophthalmologists use to determine what strength of glasses a patient needs). Can anyone provide ideas? I could always change the building into something else, but I like the eye that I have on the front, and wouldn't really like changing it.

Very nicely done! Though now I'm doubting whether I should post mine. I've been modifying my Apple Tree House for fall, if not specifically Halloween, but it might look unoriginal now. I like the fence, as well as the rock monster as a trick-or-treater! I wouldn't have thought of that one; well done!

freeedrik said it would only be sold in the UK and the US--a much wider market than just the UK. As far as Doctor Who goes, I think that has to do with licensing; it probably wouldn't be worth it to pay to acquire the license and then only sell sets in the UK. Anyway, if this information is correct, it'll be good to see another "girl" line; I wonder if it will be similar to Paradisa in the sense that it can appeal to boys, as well, or if it'll be like Belville (which could appeal to some boys, and certainly the elements do, but overall it's solidly a girl theme)

Bummer--the site doesn't work for me on either Firefox or IE.

Thanks, KielDaMan! Glad you like it! Part two will be coming up soon--I just have to finish the dish pit. I was wondering, should I post the images for part two in the opening post, or in a new post? Or both?

This is great! I love all the interior details! I've been working on a smaller modular apartment, so I really appreciate how you used every bit of space possible, and yet it still doesn't look cramped. Seeing space used that way is inspiring to me--I can't wait to get home and continue working on mine!

I really like the way this one is coming along. Although I haven't been able to keep track of all the New Mannum buildings (you have been rather prolific!), I really like the ones that I've seen. Your style has grown more unique and noticeable, and I like the level of detail you put in. I'm really enjoying being able to see this one come together step by step. I think the tan with just a little white trim keeps it looking classy, and makes it realistic while still allowing you to add tons of detail. Your interior is so far great, as well--you're doing a great job at getting lots of detail in a cramped space (I know how difficult a task this can be, as I used to build on the Classic Town scale, as well, and only switched to modular rather recently). "I'm a conformist!" (if I may borrow your saying), and keep on showing us the results! I'm a huge fan

Thanks, WhiteFang. As much as I wanted to place in the contest, I must say that I'm a little relieved that I didn't-- I realized after I made my promise that I probably couldn't make it into a modular sized MOC for quite some time, due to my lack of both spare tan bricks and money with which to purchase more. Who knows, though--perhaps some day, when I make more money and don't have to get through school, Dante's Mexican Restaurant will re-open, in full modular glory.

Well, I was going to put a rat in there, but I only had one (from the Scary Laboratory set), and its tail got bent pretty badly, so it's not really usable.

When the Series 2 Minifigure vignette contest was going on, I said that, if I placed, I would make my entry into a full modular-sized MOC. I also said that, if I didn't place, I would have the restaurant be visited by the health inspector. So, as promised, here it is. Part One The health inspector. As he walks into Dante's Mexican Restaurant, he frowns and takes out his pen and notepad. This should be an interesting day. He sits down and orders a meal. He eats everything, down to the last bite. "A truly enjoyable meal," he thinks to himself, "and the entertainment was good. Let's hope everything's clean and sanitary in the back." Unfortunately, things are not so good in the kitchen. The inspector instructs Chef Dante Inferno to move the stove. Underneath is a huge spider, as well as an indication that the surrounding floors aren't nearly as clean as they should be--the floor underneath the stove is fine, but the floor all around is coated in grime! The health inspector frowns and begins writing in his notepad. This alone isn't enough to shut down a restaurant... let's hope that he finds the dish pit in better order! To be continued....

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I found the same thing in the two Targets near my home--both had empty spaces for the Series 2 minifigures, which were priced at $2.99. So, no luck. Ah, well--I got the ones I really wanted. -
Excellent! You really do have it spot-on. I think it's good that you didn't embellish it with lots of details; they would have ruined the likeness, I think.

Category A and Category B winners
Still Raindrop replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great job, everyone! We had so many good entries! Well, it looks like the health inspector will be closing down my Mexican restaurant. -
This is great! The level of detail is incredible.
-
Wow, voting really picked up when the possibility of winning something came into the picture! I'm doing better than I expected, but not as well as I had hoped. Oh, well--either way, there's a MOC coming out of it. If I place, I'm going to try to develop the Mexican restaurant into a full, modular-scale MOC. If I don't place, well, I'll make a few more vignettes in which a health inspector visits and shuts the place down.

Vote for your favourite Category B entries
Still Raindrop replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow--the only thing that makes this any easier than Category A is that there aren't as many entries! #2, Dan Church's entry, gets one point. The build is clean, and the idea is clever. #3, Optimus' entry, gets another point. The ship is nice, and the tomb looks great! #26, LEGO Ink's entry, gets the last point. That vortex is brilliant!
