  1. I thought of that, but I think that might get in the way of the library feel.
  2. Here are some pictures of the new interior details. The new staircase: The new library details:
  3. Thanks, guys! As you suggested, I am working on the interior. I have improved the staircase already (when I found out that Market Street used a similar method, I updated mine accordingly), and am working on the library. More pictures soon! Batbrick and Milan, my unusual color choice was the result of necessity. I was going to make the town hall in grey, but I wanted it to be somewhat similar in color to my rather lively original town hall. I considered tan, thinking that it might be yellow-ish enough in effect, but I didn't have nearly enough pieces. So, I stuck with yellow, and I like how it turned out.
  4. Thanks! The staircase is kind of my original design; I made it with no outside influence, but later discovered I'm not the first one who has made something like that (see the Market Street set). BigCam, here is the topic for the soda shop: Here You can see the original town hall here: Here That reminds me, I should take pictures of my updated fish and chips stand.
  5. So, not long after having completed my first modular building, I decided to update my old town hall in the modular style. Please let me know what you think. The exterior, next to Fizkin's Soda Shop The first floor (or ground floor) contains a large hall for town council meetings (Mayor Maynought presiding) The second floor (or first floor) is a library. Comfy chair in the library: Bookcases
  6. Very nice--those bins remind me of the bins I made a while ago I like the difference between my American bins and your Spanish ones.
  7. Well, I just completed my second modular building (an upgrade of my old Rossville Town Hall), and pictures of it will be coming up soon. But before I post that, I wondered if there were any more thoughts on Pop Fizkin's Soda Shop (so have I named my first modular building)? Particularly, does anyone have thoughts on the interior now that minifigs are present?
  8. Another good thing about the small car-- it has the new windscreen in trans-black!
  9. Wow. I think the fire station has new heads, but that small car! New head, new torso, and a true 4-wide car! And the old fire nozzles have returned!
  10. While it doesn't look much like the part of Africa I'm familiar with (Northern Rwanda), it certainly does remind me of Kinshasa!
  11. Any thoughts on my minifigure choices? Does the soda jerk work? Do the figs bring more life to the shop?
  12. I have a few responses to people, but first I would like to present the finished interior: Brickstarrunner-- by all means, feel free to borrow the design! If you use it in any publicized displays or anything, credit would be nice Also, I had considered the custom sticker, but I lack the materials to create one. Athos--do you mean taller as in more levels, or taller as in more bricks on the one level? In either case, I kind of wanted to be a cute little shop. lifeinplastic,I had actually tried doing a post office before, but it didn't pan out; I felt that the features I wanted to include (backroom, sorting area, packaging area, etc.) would be too many for a 16x32 baseplate, and I'd have to do the full 32x32. I simply don't have enough regular bricks to build on the full-sized modular scale yet. tedbeard, I remembered the other reason for the tiling on the inside: when I use the 2x2 plates, they often come loose from the floor when I move minifigs into different positions. Thanks again, everyone! I never imagined the shop would be met with this sort of enthusiasm!
  13. This is excellent! One of your best works, I think. I wouldn't have thought that the CC-style could have melded so well with the open back, but you certainly pulled it off!
  14. DV, I agree completely (though I am an English/Secondary Education major, so I'm not sure that I bring an extremely different point of view). 2001 was my favorite year, as well, because it was so immersive. I have always seen the MNOG as one of the crowning achievements of Bionicle, for the exact same reasons. I didn't feel that I was simply watching or reading a heroic story; rather, I was an inhabitant of this fantastical island, going about everyday life, meeting people who were completely unimportant to the main story, and sometimes witnessing a Toa's heroic acts. I also liked the feel of robotic beings on a natural island; the blend of the "mystical and the mechanical" reminded me a lot of Peter Gabriel's music.
  15. Thanks, everyone! I'm glad you like it so much! I considered putting tumblers or something on the top, but ran across a few problems. First, I didn't have the pieces I needed; second, it might have made the place look like a liquor store. I did make a "Soda" sign out of SNOT letters, but I didn't like how it looked as much. tedbeard, I made the counter tops and the seats studded so that minifigs and accessories could be placed there (also, I didn't have enough pieces to make them tiled, so I couldn't, even if I had wanted to). I usually prefer studded sidewalks and floors for the same reason as you, but something about the smooth, tiled look really interested me. I did, however, use plates behind the counter, so that the soda jerk could stay in place. Eilif, I originally had dark red tiles in the middle section, and I may put those back. I'll have to try replacing the white column pieces with the red ones, though.
  16. Hello, all! I had built a City-scale soda shop for Rossville, but I couldn't make the interior look good; there was just not enough space. So, I decided to finally try building on the modular/CC scale (it's smaller than most, but I followed the guidelines on LEGO.com). Now, keep in mind, this is my first attempt at such a scale, and I don't really have anything creatively new. But please give me your feedback. Exterior (I don't have enough dark bley tiles to finish the sidewalk yet, but that will soon change): Interior (my wife wanted to create the first customer, so there aren't any minifigs in it just yet):
  17. Brilliant! This looks amazing, and quite accurate.
  18. I must have missed this one the first time around. It's brilliant! The sunflowers are great, and it really does fit into the official LEGO style, while also being completely original.
  19. It was also in 7641 City Corner, 5613 Firefighter impulse, 7744 Police Headquarters, and 7907 City Advent Calendar. I suppose I'm just used to fire hydrants with three valve things (not sure what they're called), similar to what you can find in the pictures LEGO uses to show off their new sets.
  20. Well, if they are doing more fire sets, I hope they change the fire hydrant design, and use this piece in red or yellow, rather than this one. They already use that design in the displays, and I think it looks better.
  21. I like the way you've created a convenience store feel in such a limited space. Very well done!
  22. Ah, I see. And I completely agree with you, then. I'm in university, you see, and "plagiarism" is one of the dirtiest words we have (Not really, but it is pounded into our heads that plagiarism will mean failing the course at best). It does look very inspired by the Castrol logo. I suppose part of the reason I think it looks like Amoco, as well, is because there was an old Amoco sign near my house when I was young and living in Pennsylvania, and I associated that with Octan (which I too thought was a real company for a while)
  23. How is Octan almost a plagiarism? The logo shares the colors of Castrol's, but that's about it. I'd say Octan's logo looks more like the Amoco logo than the Castrol logo.
  24. Oh, on the contrary! Minimalism isn't as easy as it would seem.
