  1. I used those hinge plates in black for my arms; unfortunately, I don't have any in tan. I changed her arm by giving her another corner plate, a 1x2 plate, and a 1x1 modified plate with the enclosed clip so that she can hold a bouquet of flowers. We went to the cake place today, so I had to leave the figures with them; I guess I'll just be satisfied with how they look now
  2. I also liked the dress better the other way, but I thought it would probably be good to go with what my fiancée prefers. As far as the arms go, I have a limited amount of tan plates (and they're currently harder to find, since I'm packing up much of my LEGO stuff to move it to our new apartment). What would you suggest for the other arm? And the hair . . . well, I might have to order a few dark orange plates from BrickLink. My hair looks almost exactly like Agent Fuse's hair, but, like Athos' wife, mine didn't go for the minifigure cake-topper idea. Athos, yours look great!
  3. I made these miniland-scale figures of my fiancée and me. When she saw them, she told me she wanted them to be on top of our wedding cake (wedding is in three weeks)! I originally had her dress a bit more billowy, and I used a tile on her chest, but she liked it better this way. What do you guys think?
  4. Looking through my old pictures, I found a few I had taken of a creation I made fresh out of my Dark Ages. The construction isn't great, but I do enjoy the minifigures. So, I give you the lair of Dr. Phibes! (For anyone who hasn't seen the Phibes movies, starring Vincent Price, I highly recommend them. Campy horror as only Price can do it) As you walk into the lair, you are greeted by a strange old man. His eyes are sharp, but his face looks very waxy . . . almost false. He doesn't appear to be able to speak normally; instead, he relies upon a peculiar device which hooks into his neck. Dr. Phibes: He begins to play his organ, accompanied by his clockwork band. But what is he hiding beneath that mask-like face of his? A final shot of Phibes, his organ, the staircase, and his clockwork band (note the winding key): (The lair is based off of this lair of his in the movies:)
  5. Well, considering it is a chop-shop that became a weapons shop, dynamite doesn't seem too out of place. Why do any buildings have decoration? A space pitstop. In all seriousness, though, this is a highly illegal shop. If I were running this sort of business, I would want to know if the police were coming. He probably isn't going for safe and legal customers who would flee at the sight of barbed wire. To see underneath the vehicles?
  6. I'm fine with only Christmas sets. I mean, Kwanzaa doesn't even have anything to do with faith--one just has to be of a certain ethnicity. Anyway, this set is incredible! I was considering asking my wife for a Space Police set for Christmas, but I think I might ask her for this one (she'll appreciate that)
  7. Is the building really so good that nobody has any criticism?
  8. All right, here's the next building. I'd really appreciate constructive criticism/tips on how to improve, if anyone has them. Otherwise I won't get much better. Another possible configuration: And a few more random ones. Introducing Professor Napierkowski, key developer in android linguistics. Well, that's his brain, at least. The rest of him stopped working a long time ago. Yeah, I know I messed this one up, but I was going off of memory. "I swear, officer, you've got the wrong anthropomorphic squid!"
  9. I'm intrigued by the story so far (after seeing part 6, I had to go back and read it all). I look forward to the next installment--whenever it will be. I feel your pain--I started a topic here recently which has been commented upon (several times) by one person.
  10. Unfortunately, I don't have enough pieces to make more than one other bike of that same style. I did, however, make a new building. I tried to greeble it as much as I could
  11. RangerBob was the one with the cool photos; I was just the one with the frail attempt at humor
  12. The rovers are my favorite, hands-down. They capture the Classic Space feel while still being marvelously greebled and brilliantly constructed.
  13. Meh. Too many Technic parts--the underside is full of holes! Those giant corner pieces are too <insert that tiresome argument>, and the buggy is useless. And they don't even have any visors! How do they survive in space? And some of those big engine and radar pieces sure look flimsy. LEGO sure has gone downhill since the seventies. Nah, I'm just kidding (I was born in 1989, so I have seen LEGO improve greatly, and it's always funny to me how many flaws people can find in a set if it isn't built just like a classic, so I thought I'd try a poor attempt at satire. I do, however, love the classics, as well; in fact, my first LEGO set was a classic space one). This is a great set, and a very good review of it. Sure, it has some areas that aren't perfect, but it's a splendid old set. I love the little ground base you can make from the back section of the ship. Very clever. Those alternate models really are great, too; I particularly like the base on the bottom left corner of the second page of alternate models. And that Space Chicken is fantastic Anyway, thanks for showing off some of the features that I never would have guessed at from the box art. I like it when people review these older sets--there are so many hidden little features. Of course, there are lots of features on today's sets, too--they're just demonstrated all over the advertising.
  14. I have it set up so that they're dressed in their official helmets and no air tanks when they're inside the domes. When they're outside, however, I give them air tanks and closed helmets with the metallic blue dome visors from the Life on Mars theme. Their suits look a lot like they could be Bio-Suits, so those are fine.
  15. Really? Wow, thanks. I still like Kranxx's bike better (the SNOT techniques and the staggered jumper plates for seats are pretty cool, especially for an official set), but I was still pretty pleased with how my bike turned out. Now I've got to figure out how to make a third bike that fits in with the first two, but is still different enough to not be just a repeat (Kranxx doesn't really look like a leader with only one guy to lead, after all).
  16. I've owned this set for about a week now, and it really has been growing on me. If you look past the openness of the cockpit (which was easy enough to do for the older space subthemes), it really is one of the coolest-looking sets.
  17. Great question. My fiancée is fine with it--she knows it helps me relieve stress, be creative, relax, etc. I just wonder how things will all work out when we get married next month and move into an apartment together. I want to have some LEGO display space in our living room (or, more properly, our "everything but the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom" room), and she said I could have a space of my own on the bookshelf. We'll see how that works out--I'll keep you guys posted, if you want
  18. According to a set designer I talked with, Squidman's Pitstop is a chop shop that kind of became a weapons shop.
  19. Go ahead--I'm honored that you think it's good enough to use.
  20. This set has been growing on me over the past few days. If it's $40 or under, I think this is the one I'll ask my wife for, after all.
  21. Very nice. I like how those side engines look--it helps with the wasp-like feel of the entire vessel.
  22. Sorry for the wait. Here are some more pictures. The bartender robot: More shots of the bike: And is it just me, or is this the perfect vehicle for Squidman? When Ogel was piloting it, it never traveled like a real squid (head forwards with the tentacles behind, which looks really sleek), because he was seated facing the tentacles. But when Squidman is the pilot, this is no problem:
  23. I couldn't make the graffiti any bigger--I was limited by the scraps of sticker material. Plus, they're just simple tags--and bigger than the tag on Kranxx's bike.
  24. For the custom stickers, I just wrote on the scraps of some SP sticker sheets--I figure it's a shame to waste sticker material, and there is often so much left over after you peel the official ones off. And indeed, I did want to give humans at least SOME representation in this space biker gang. In the same way, most of my aliens are good, peaceful creatures. I'll take more pics of the bike a little later today. Basically, I built it all around an R2-D2 body from the Bounty Hunter Pursuit set (that's how I was able to attach those steering vanes). It's not the easiest to explain, so, yeah, I'll take more pictures. Glad you like it!
  25. Darn. That looks like a fun set, but if I have to choose between asking my wife for this as a Christmas gift and asking her for Hyperspeed Pursuit, I'm probably going to go with the latter.
