Quest 73 Reflection Overall I thought it went alright. Not great, but also not a complete train wreck. The quest was designed with a very simple idea and story in mind, mostly so I could get one quest under my belt. I considered it a learning experience to see what I was good at and what I could do better, so that the next time I plan a quest, I know what areas I need to spend more time planning out and what can work better as an organic element. A lot of the quest went better than I expected, I think the only element I was somewhat disappointed with were the battles. Pacing This was probably the hardest part to running the quest. I wanted to give the players enough time to interact or roleplay their parts, but I also wanted to try and keep the quest from dragging on. I ended up grouping pieces of the quest into small chunks and tried to limit a 24 hour lull cycle to each pieces in order to keep the quest moving. I am curious what the players thought as to the pace of the quest, and what I could have done better to improve that element. Battles I hate Nostrums now. The problem with the battles is they were designed to be a decent battle without consumables as I wanted the use of consumables to be optional instead of mandatory. I realize now that was probably a naive approach given the number of gold gaining classes on the quest and as a result any high use of consumables ended up quickly turning the fights into barrel fishing with a shotgun. In the future I will probably take a parties inventory and gold into account when designing a battle, and increase the length of the battle to allow for more variation in the event that the party uses those consumables. Players You guys were amazing. You took an extremely simple story and characters and managed to provide a depth that I hadn't originally designed. The vast majority of the quest was written as a result of your interactions and it made things far more interesting than the barebones framework that had been designed. I am curious to know what others thought of the quest and would love to hear suggestions or complaints that I could incorporate into any quests I host in the future.

The rules state: You can only change weapons once per turn. So a player couldn't use more than one hollow blade weapon in a turn. I think a player could technically attack the target and switch to the hollow blade after attacking to use the item inside, but it does seem to violate the spirit of the item. Perhaps the rules should be changed to say that a player can only switch weapons at the beginning of a turn, since, as it is currently written, hollow blade weapons allow a player to use the slotted item even when they are not attacking (using another item, reading a scroll, etc.)?

It was fairly obvious to Jeaux now that the sargent was not to be trusted. He was far more interested in his own self-interest than that of the party. He kept this opinion to himself, seeing no benefit in a confrontation at this time. The ranger looked back to their opponents to find one of the bats was still airborne. As the party approached the city gates they could see Mordred waiting there. Nobody could tell how long he had been standing by the entrance, but from the look of things he had very little else to occupy his time. As the cart passed under the archway into the city, he began to shout at the members of the party. "It's about damn time you got back. That's the problem with you mercenary types, always taking your time and wasting everyone else's. Next thing I know I'm going to discover you didn't even manage to bring back the cargo. OOC: Shouldn't Bat D have gotten a free hit as well since dual-strike doesn't target the second opponent. Jeaux was unsure about their current leader. He could understand hiding to preserve oneself, even if it was at the expense of his fellow party members, but he would have trouble trusting an individual who would so casually throw him to the wolves. "Let's try to keep as many of the bats occupied as possible." Jeaux opened his briefcase, drinking a potion and throwing an ice bomb at their opponents.

Sounds exactly like an assassin vs a non-Gold dropping enemy that is immune to insta-kill, which is also very common. Though gold reaper doesn't use ether.

Mac pitched the tents and unfurled the bedrolls at the parties camp. The night was rather relaxing with no interruptions or disturbances and come morning the party was refreshed and ready to hit the road. The path back to Eubric was the fairly typical one. They passed a few other travelers along the way, most were merchants headed to Bric'lin to engage in trading and commerce. A few of the travelers seemed to be headed to Bric'lin for a play that had recently opened. -

This may be a bit mathematical, but you can calculate the elemental multiplier by doing two steps. 1. Sum the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of each element against the opponent to arrive at your "elemental effectiveness". This is a 0 for no effect, a -1 for ineffective, and a 1 for effective. Benji's crossbow vs a Rocky Flying monster would result in Rock(0 + 0 - 1 - 1 - 1) + Flying(0 + 0 + 0 + 1 - 1) = -3. 2. Find the result of 2 to the power of your elemental effectiveness and round down to the nearest integer. So a -3 elemental effctiveness would be ROUNDDOWN(2^(-3)) = 0. Another example would be Benji's darkness crossbow versus a polar bear (ice/beast) Ice(0 - 1 + 1 + 0 + 1) + Beast(0 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 0) = 3 ROUNDDOWN(2^3) = 8x multiplier
