Roleplaying is allowed, but ultimately this is a game of Mafia. I'll lend a helping hand as we progress through the game for some of our new players should they ask, so don't feel afraid to shoot me a PM. Just relax and interact with your fellow players before the game begins. Also, please put your character icon either in your signature or as your icon until you are eliminated from the game or the game is over. It'll help players recognize you, and helps add to the atmosphere of the game!PMs are heading out now!
  3. Karie raises an eyebrow towards the proceedings in general, not quite sure where she falls in the proceedings. "Arthur, if you're so persistent on seeing the Bonapartes no longer being in the role of protecting Uland's waters, than what would you prefer to see as an alternative?"
  4. Did I say PMs would get sent out today? They'll get sent out tomorrow.
  5. Sign ups are closed! I'll get the PMs sent out sometime tomorrow! If we get any last minute stragglers before then I'll add them to the sign ups.
  6. Alright, I'll keep the sign ups open until around 8pm tonight. If we don't get a full fifteen I'll run the game with the fourteen we have.
  7. "Eh, I can live without Euflear returning as a Veteran." Karie remarks. "I'm certain they want to regroup the rest of the fae and figure out what to do next." "Well, seems as if though I'm about to come into a position of authority very soon." Karie replies, grinning nervously. "My big plans? Well... my next course of action once this has wrapped up is to take a nap. This Metasimian Ale's helpful, but I'm running low on energy. Fighting through the Faerie, storming a fort, and sending an Archdemon back to the Void does that to a person." Karie smirks as she takes another swig from the large bottle of ale. She continues to speak in a more melancholic tone. "I also need to go and find my sister's grave as well. I have no idea what I intend to do with that, but I'll see what her gravesite looks like and work from there. I may wind up moving her remains to the cemetery proper as I don't know if the gardeners in the Hanging Gardens even know about the fact she's buried on the premises." Karie lightens up after bringing up her sister, seemingly happy getting it off her chest. "I don't know what's going to happen after that. A lot's happened in my life these past few days and I'm ready to just take it slowly for a little while. If I'm giving the position of Veteran I might take the responsibility of finding us a new bartender: whoever that might be." Karie had noticed Attina and her entourage enter the hall but didn't pay much attention to it until Throlar spoke up. She watched the proceedings, ready to pounce in to defend Throlar should the discussions sour. She crossed her arms and looked towards Attina, waiting for her response to Throlar.
  8. We're one player away from getting the fifteen needed to run the game!
  9. I'll also add that this is a perfect entry level game: there's no quirky gimmicks, no obscure roles: just pure and plain Mafia fun. If you've never played Mafia, or Werewolf, as some of our members might know it as, and want to see what it's all about, this game is a perfect entry point.
  10. "Sure. Keep the Spring Staff, Throlar." Karie shrugged. "I doubt I'll be needing it anytime soon." Noticing Lind had moved to the quest board, Karie followed, her drink in hand. After Lind had posted the notice Karie chuckled to herself, taking a sip of her drink. "Salmanda, eh?" Karie remarks. She takes a moment to read it over a second time. "Heard it's nice this time of year. You got plans to vacation there or something?"
  11. I'll wait until Friday to see if we get anymore potential players. If not, I'll run the game with what we have.
  12. Deltarune just came out, and I played it, and it was very good.
  13. "I don't know what they're going to do, but I doubt they'll stick around to act as this city's first line of defence from coastal attacks." Karie remarks. "Where will they go? Anywhere that'll take them. I doubt they'll just disappear off the face of the earth. There's several port cities that'd love to have the Bonapartes protecting them. Brendenton comes to mind." Karie gets out of her stool, shaking herself off. Her headache seemed to be dissipating, but she still had a bit of the bottle left, and the headache wasn't fully gone. "It'd probably be best someone went out and dealt with Attina, eh? She is asking for a parlay. Atramor, you want to come along for this? Anyone else interested?"
  14. Karie opens the bottle of Metasimian Ale and takes a whiff. "Huh. Never smelt something like this before." She pours herself a glass from the amber bottle and begins to drink from the glass. Overhearing Skrall talk about the Bonaparte fleet, Karie picks up an empty bottle from early still on the bar and purposefully knocks it onto the floor, the glass shattering on impact. She points to it. "There's our chances of getting the Bonapartes to agreeing to maintaining a fleet. We saw to that when we blew up their fort. You'll have an easier time drinking from that bottle than you will bringing Attina around to maintain any sort of a fleet."
  15. Karie excused herself from the table as the political think tank had seemingly come to some sort of a solution. She moved over to the bar, rubbing her hands along the wood. She took a seat, putting all of her belongings down next to the stool. Karie's posture visibly shifted as she let out an exhausted groan, resting her head on the table for a moment, taking in the previous few days. Looking up, Karie tried to cancel out the noise around her as she looked into her glass of water. She knew she couldn't stick around here forever: she had to check on Masson and Rachelle. For now though, things were quiet, and Karie felt too tired to move much. She felt her legs ache, her head began to feel sore, and she noticed her makeup had started to wear off as she looked into her reflection casting off of the water in her glass. She finished of her drink, too tired to reapply anymore cosmetics. Peace, at last. "Scheherazade. something for a headache, if you got something like that."
  16. We are three victims players away from running this! If we can get fourteen I'll be happy, but I'd prefer a solid fifteen.
  17. Karie might be getting a little salty as well. No hard feelings towards anyone!
  18. "Lawrence is right." Karie proclaims, having listened to the conversation long enough. "Heroica and this upcoming government cannot be one and the same. I also agree with both Lawrence and Ulric that a king or queen should rule this city: a council is just as corruptible as a king. A king being assisted by a strong backbone of advisors and councillors who oversee the running of this city, but also are to hold the king responsible for the benefit of the city, is in my opinion our best bet. Whether these advisors and councillors are elected or appointed I don't care at the moment. That being said, Lawrence, I wouldn't put you on a throne even if I put a thumbtack on it." Karie proclaims. "You're a backstabbing weasel who opportunistically cut my husband's arm off after he saved your life." Karie points at him, a cool, seething anger apparent in her eyes. "Do not think for a second that I wouldn't make your tenure as king easy for you if you somehow got your fat megablocks on the throne, Lawrence, because I don't doubt for a minute that you'd try anything and everything in your power to do so to myself and my family." Karie looks at the two would-be kings, not particularly impressed with either. She didn't know who else really could sit on the throne of the city. She was happy and content to stay out of the hens in their hen house as they clucked over a throne and a crown that did not even exist, even if part of her relished this. She enjoyed being in this great game. She enjoyed being a leader that inspired others, someone who others rallied to. Karie sighed, partially out of frustration, partially out of exhaustion. Part of her wanted to put her own stake into the crown, but she knew that Lawrence was right. She'd look like a usurper come to take a throne from the people after ousting the previous rulers.
  19. Yeah, yeah, it's a little mind boggling seeing it one last time.
  20. We are 2/3's of the way there!
  21. Karie begrudgingly nods. "There's some of us here who clearly want to enter politics. There's other amongst us who want to continue working in Heroica. There can't be a direct involvement between the two. I have no issue with heroes holding a position within a political group, as to withhold Heroican members to remain unpolitical and neutral on political issues is a recipe for disaster, but for Heroica as a guild, because lets face it, that's what this hall is, to completely ally itself with a political ideology is just a dangerous. Heroica must remain non-partisan, but it's individual members should be free to be aligned with whatever political affiliation they want to, barring what they're involved in isn't illegal." Karie raised a skeptical eyebrow at Ulric. "Adaptive? So how will you adapt to a crown being placed on your furry noggin? This is the exact reason I told you I wouldn't support you back in the sewers, Ulric. I know what you claim to be for: ensuring the poor's needs are seen to, bringing down the wall, bringing law to this city. What I don't know is how you intend to go about doing that. What are you going to do to those who stand in your way? We all know you've had a criminal streak in your pas, and if rumours are to be believed you've worked with less than savoury individuals in the past: who's to say you won't fall back on those tendencies?" Karie looks over at the newcomer with a look of worry. "You okay? I can take a look at your wounds if you'd like."
  22. Karie moved over to the table where Ulric, Atramor, and Lawrence were seated at, glass of water in hand, and took a seat. "Look, I'm all for getting together and having a big kumbaya, but we're not going to get that. We just blew up the Bonaparte's headquarters. I don't think them being here is going to be an amicable conversation."
  23. Karie nods solemnly to Asa. "They did. The Rosier is gone, and I doubt we'll be seeing her anytime soon." She turns to both Elphaba and the Ziegfried wizard. "Don't worry about that. The city is saved and you did your best. It's all one could ask for." Karie felt a sense of resolve replace her lingering sense of remorse. She'd been through so much these past few days and came out alive. She didn't know exactly how she did it but she was grateful. Karie makes her way to the bar after making it back into the hall. It was awfully quiet. She notices Ulric sitting at one of the tables but is called away by Scheherazade. "Scheherazade, if you're going to be retiring, take care. This hall will feel a little emptier without you, but I wouldn't want to bar you from your well deserved retirement. I guess if this is to be my last drink from you, make it a glass of water: I feel like I'm going to need to be somewhat sober for the next few hours." "Not a problem." Karie replies, taking back her Vagrant's Guitar. "Oh, for the love of- look, I'll be disputing either of your claims to a throne!" Karie shouts from the bar. "It's obvious to me at this point Ulric's not leaving the city. If we kick him out we basically lose the support of the poor, and the last thing we need right now is another revolt. Talk it out like adults unless you want me to come over there and beat some sense into the both you. I'm tired and cranky and not in the mood to listen to a pissing contest." Karie grabbed her glass of water and drank from it heartily. She wanted to go crawl into a nice warm bed, preferably with her husband, but if Ulric was here it meant that the title of King of Eubric was up for grabs. Karie wanted nothing to do with actually lording over the city, but she'd be foolish to not pay attention to it. Karie shook her head at Lind. "He's not here to surrender. If he is we're still in that shared dream."
  24. Anyone who builds with Lego and also plays tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder has probably gotten the urge to try and use Lego minifigures in place of miniatures. It makes perfect sense when you think about: there is a large variety of pieces allowing for different races, including dwarves, elves, halflings, etc., and Lego allows players to create their miniature representing their character and personalize it to their taste. Instead of having to go out and find a miniature that looks a little bit like what your players wanted, Lego allows them to build it at the table and use it as their character. However, I never really liked just taking the mini and putting it down on the table, especially next to other miniatures. The lack of a base in particular really irked me, and even photos I did see that did attempt a base just put a random plate underneath, some of which didn't seem to fit within the 1 inch square on the grid, as was the case of using the collectible minifigure stands. I looked into seeing if a Lego base was compatible with my Chessex mat which is designed for tabletop miniatures. Can Lego be used in place of standard tabletop minis, and can it look good? Well, lo and behold, it can be done, and I think my attempt looks pretty looks good, and it's pretty easy to build. Turns out that a three studs in both width and length is just enough to fit into a a typical Chessex mat's square, or 1 inch. Presented above is a brave adventurer, a human fighter, and a larger monster, an ogre, on a six stud by six stud base. In terms of tabletop lingo, the human fighter, a medium sized, creature takes up a 1x1 space on the grid, and the ogre, a large creature, takes up a 2x2 space. The other thing that needed to happen was to ensure the minifigure was relatively centred, and that's done by putting a plate with a stud in the middle of it on the miniature's base, as shown in the above photo. That way the miniature stays relatively centred, and looks close to an actual product put out by Wizkids or Reaper. I also wanted to ensure the base was all purpose, so that one base could suit most minifigures. I can think of a few that might have issues with the current format, namely the genie tail leg piece, but that can resolved by putting the stud dead centre in the middle using a 1x1 tile on the base instead of using a 1x2 tile with a stud in the middle of it. Our stand-in ogre stands in place using a similar technique, as putting him on standard studded plates would have him farther back on the base. I was running out of dark grey plates, as can be seen with the ogre's base, but I think one could easily pass it off as shoddy or deteriorating flagstone: a common sight in most dungeons. So, with all that said, what are your thoughts? I'd love to hear some feedback. I'll look into building a few more miniatures and seeing how they look on the Chessex mat. Thank you for taking a look!
  25. "I think Arthur summed it up succinctly enough, Vindsval." Karie replies, shrugging her shoulders solemnly. "I don't think the Rosier's going to be bothering this, or any other realm, any time soon." Karie lowers her head. She wasn't particularly familiar with Torald, but he was clearly going ahead with an action that was both terrifyingly courageous and foolhardy. Part of her wished she was able to step in Torald's place, but she knew that she'd ultimately regret that decision more than if she didn't. "Safe travels, Torald. I personally will make sure that neither Heroica nor this city forgets your valiant actions here today." "Fair enough." Karie responded. "However, I don't think we're going to be too comfortable in the Hall for too long. There's a lot of issues we need to resolve in this city, like the Wolfgang and now, most recently, one very angry fleet of Bonaparte ships."
