  1. Thanks for joining us Tariq j and Rider Raider! I hope you two had fun!
  2. The crowd quickly pushed KotZ, cosplaying as Oroku Karai, forth. They had decided to lynch her. "Any last words?" Kintobor spoke, his finger levitating over the control panel. "Yeah, the pizza here sucks! It reminds me of those good for nothing turtles!" KotZ shouted. "Eh, at least you stayed in character. Kudos for that." Kintobor responded before his fist smashed the control panel. BANG!! KotZ's head popped like a grape. Blood and brain bits went everywhere as they stumbled to the ground. "Alright folks, enough of that." Kintobor waved the crowd away. "It's time for all of you to go to your rooms and hopefully not get night killed. See some of you tomorrow, but hopefully all of you." The remaining cosplayers dispersed as Sakura went to go find a mop, pail, and body bag.
  3. Day Five: Con Crud Rider Raider, cosplaying as Doc Brown, was heading out of his hotel room to look for some trouble. "I sure hope I run into something or someone who can take my mind off of this game. It's getting on my nerves!" Suddenly a figure emerged. Rider Raider grinned in delight. He waved the individual over. "Greetings, friend! What can I do for you?" Rider Raider asked. The figure looked distraught. "Oh, it's awful, I've lost most of my gardening tools! All I have is this shovel!" "Gardening tools? Whatever would you need gardening tools in a place like this?" Rider Raider asked. "Here, let me show you." The figure replied. With lightning fast reflexes, a shovel was drawn out from nowhere! Rider Raider barely had any time to react as the shovel was soon brought down upon him! Desperately, Rider Raider tried to defend himself from his attacker, but his attempts were not enough. His head was bashed in several times over by the shovel wielding murderer. When Rider Raider finally stopped twitching the assailant ended their assault, leaving the scene as shouts and gunshots could be heard elsewhere in the hotel. Tariq j, cosplaying as Batgirl, had been fleeing from their own problems. A machine gun-totting assailant had been chasing them throughout the hotel most of the night. Already suffering a wound, Tariq j turned to confront their tormentor, their balance unsteady. "Why do you do this?" Tariq j asked. Their assailant only laughed. "Sorry, mate. It's just business as usual." Tariq j was swiftly blown away in a hail of machine gun fire. The assailant fled into the night, their machine gun barrel smoking. The next day, the remaining cosplayers gathered together in the convention hall, actually able to all fit around the small stage set up at the front without crowding. Their numbers were dwindling, and fast. Kintobor drank his morning coffee as Sakura laid out pizza and drinks for the day. "And then there was seven of you." Kintobor remarks dryly. "Staying alive until day five is no easy feat. Congratulations to those of you who've made it this far. I'm certain you all want to know about KotZ's alignment, as well as what all the commotion was last night, so let's not dally about and get straight into the important stuff. KotZ, cosplaying as Oroku Karai, was town. We found nothing to indicate that there was any connection to the mafia, or any real scummy stuff behind the scenes. Looks like you townies lynched a townie. Womp womp. Surprisingly enough, we had two deaths last night, shockingly enough. Rider Raider, cosplaying as Doc Brown, was town. Being beaten to death by a shovel is not very pleasant, and I doubt time travel's going to save him now, so doff your cap if your wearing one. Tariq j, cosplaying as Batgirl, was also town. Gunned down in a hail of machine gun fire is also not a pleasant way to go. I was not able to determine who was responsible for the deaths of Rider Raider or Tariq j, so don't bother asking me. I want to see some productive discussions today. Don't die, because you can't contribute if you're dead! It'll take a majority of four to get a lynch, so get out there and try your best!" Each player will be given a character to play, who will be aligned with either the Town or the Scum. To win the game, the Town must kill off all the Scum, while the Scum needs to outnumber the Town. Third-party (neutral) characters have their own win conditions as outlined in their roles. 2. Each day you will be able to vote to lynch a player. Voting is mandatory. Voting should be done in the following format; Vote: Character (Player). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format; Unvote: Character (Player). No other format will be accepted. A majority vote is required to lynch a player. Failure to vote will incur a vote penalty the following game day. 3. A game day will last a maximum of 72 hours. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. The day will end when a majority vote has been reached after 72 hours. After the day has been concluded, a night stage will commence, which will last 48 hours. Night actions must be sent to the host in the first 20 hours of the night stage. 3.5. Players may not target the same player two nights in a row, and may not target themselves. 4. The alignment of lynched players, as well as those that died during the night, will be revealed at the beginning of the next day. 5. You may not quote or pretend to quote anything sent to or from you in PM with the game host, or in PM with any other players. This includes all the details of your character and role, as well as any night action results. Role claims and reporting of night action results are acceptable, but in your own words only. Do not attempt to use the structure of your role PM to your advantage. 6. Do not play the game outside the thread. Similarly, do not post out of character inside the thread. Game tactics and roles may only be discussed in the game thread or via PM with other players. Private discussion is done at your own risk and should be treated as part of the game. 7. If you are dead, you may not post in thread or discuss the game with any of the players. Any information you had becomes void, and may not be passed on. 8. You may not edit your posts. 9. You must post in every day thread. 10. If you encounter a problem or have a question, please contact the host via PM 11. Violation of any of the above rules will result in a 5 vote penalty for the first offence, and death on your second offence. 12. There are no hints or clues in the day/night images.
  4. I don't think we're going hard sci-fi, so clerics will probably stick around in a similar manner to how the Jedi Knights in Star Wars are kind of a religious order. There'll still be gods who grant their priests divine magic, and clerics gain the ability to heal through that. Speaking of clerics and healing, can we please, please, please look into buffing a cleric's healing output? A half-chance to heal in the previous cleric class was easily outclassed by basic potions, and that shouldn't be a thing.
  5. Pretty much what I had in mind. The benefit of having a group of core planets is that a planet is "massive": if you want to run a quest and we have a planet that fits the bill, you can have it happen there and not interfere with other plot lines on that planet because of it's size. Each planet doesn't need to follow a single theme, but they should feel cohesive. As an example, perhaps there's a home world for the aliens from Alien Conquest, with different regions that can be expanded upon and explored. Some key areas are explained at the beginning of the game, perhaps the capitol and other major cities, but from there it's open for anyone to go in and elaborate upon. (Also, I'd love to see the aliens from Alien Conquest as a race and a faction. ) I'd imagine some of the PCs will come from uncharted territory, and that's cool too. As time goes on I'd even be for expanding the map, as more of the galaxy becomes more centralized. I think this is where myself and a number of other people differ in opinion. I want next to no connection to Heroica 1.0. Returning NPCs I'm fine with, because some are powerful enough that I'm certain they'd find a way to travel between different planes, and 159 more or less opened the door for NPCs to travel from one campaign setting to another, but I want a completely fresh slate: no Olegaia, none of the old gods, nothing from that game. Let it be it's own thing. I'd probably be fine if whatever organization the PCs work for being called Heroica, as a continuity nod and callback, but I'd like to see new ideas and concepts brought forth. "Space travel has become far easier and faster than ever before with the creation of the Neo-Flux Transistor, a device that ushered in a new age in the Tempest System: the Fifth Age, to be specific. Merchant ships travelling the hyperspace lanes move faster, priests are capable of congregating faster, and troops are capable of being moved to the frontline at an insurmountable pace. With this, though, piracy is at an all time high, and criminal elements traffic stolen goods, contraband, and slaves more discreetly and swiftly than ever before. The galactic governments struggle to keep up with the increased pressure put on them by growing crime syndicates. Elsewhere, mining conglomerates push their luck further outward into unknown territory, settling new planets and digging for riches. The ancient Order of Druidic Circle continue to intervene in these attempts, riding into battle on great beasts of the land while armouring themselves in the scraps of their enemies metal machinery. Great threats loom, as dead space ships lurch out from uncharted territory, ghoulish derelicts inhabited with the living dead, hungry for the flesh of the living and the destruction of the galaxy, continually enter the galaxy. Meanwhile, the Technocrats from Skularis, a planet choked by the pollution of industry, continue to send their robotic minions into battle in a bid to take over the galaxy, striking from a hidden base. To make matters worse, cultists worshipping dark and profane gods continue to crop up. Once isolated and too cowardly to make their presence known, they've become far more daring and bold, performing sacrifices and acts to their dark gods more frequently. The galaxy is constantly in peril, as threats crop up from every corner of the galaxy, and beyond. However, one organization has stood stalwart since the end of the Second Age, a shield to protect those who needed help when no one else would help them. Heroica boldly steps into a new era of exploration, danger, and adventure. Will you heed the call?" And that's my basic pitch. I'd probably change some things, but that's how I'd at least framework the Heroica sequel.
  6. Eh. I'd rather let Olegaia and old Heroica be and start over somewhere else from scratch. They got their happy ending, let them keep it. I think it'd be a downer of an ending if 500-1000 years later Olegaia just up and gets destroyed. D&D has several different "campaign settings", why not look at this new game as a new campaign setting? Why add more baggage that puts a barrier between new players? Historica gets that complaint all the time, lets not get into the same issue it does. Using the portal to bring in old characters? That I'm totally down for. There's a couple of NPCs who I think could make for excellent callback characters. Perhaps have Anámesa as a stand-in/shout out to the city of Sigil and have our version of it branch off into different "campaign settings", and one of them is this new one. As for the cosmology, I'd prefer a solar system. We cap off the amount of planets in the "core" solar system, and anyone who wants to go outside it goes into "wild space", or uncharted territory. That's not to say we can't take influence from other cosmologies: perhaps the main city the game takes place in is on the back of a "world tortoise". I think the setting and overall tone is where we're going to find the most pushback, and nailing the tone is going to be the second most critical part to this game's success, next to the combat overhaul. Frankly speaking, if I don't like the campaign setting or pitch, I don't play in it.
  7. I've glossed through the rulebook and setting and I was kind of smitten with Paizo's take on pretty much everything. Starfinder's tone is what Heroica 2.0 should strive for: it needs to be able to fill a bunch of different themes but still be believable as a single setting. Also, we need a name that isn't Heroica 2.0. Have Heroica 2.0 be the subtitle or something, please. I'll add a bit more to my proposal for the positions of Loremaster, Referee, and Plot Member, since my initial intent with it was to address a few issues from Heroica: mainly QM burnout. With a rotating cast for Referee and Plot Member, we don't need to worry about a scenario where a theoretical sole person who orchestrates the game's story and lore doesn't retire unexpectedly for personal, yet understandable reasons, wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, say it no more. It also allows different QMs to take a shot at running a major story arc that has long lasting effects on the campaign. One group of QMs might decide to have an alien empire arrive at the edge of the galaxy. Who are they and what do they want? Another group of QMs might decide to reveal a new series of undiscovered planets in need of exploration, with initial scans revealing new lifeforms and rich resource deposits. What, or whom, is on those planets, and which organizations and factions have an interest in them? Perhaps an ancient evil that was once forgotten has returned! What is it's plan and who's standing up to stop it? All different ideas different groups of QMs can try out. If you don't like one major arc, the next one might be more up your alley.
  8. Thank you for joining us, KotZ! I hope you had fun!
  9. Voting is now closed. With a majority reached, KotZ, cosplaying as Oroku Karai, has been lynched. Night Four has started. You have 48 hours to get your night actions in. The day conclusion will be uploaded soon.
  10. I don't think I'll outright auto-lynch Rider Raider, but I'll put him two votes away from being lynched, just so tomorrow doesn't end with his lynch being secured. 30 minutes remain in the day.
  11. Current Vote Count: Oroku Kirai (KotZ) 6 Votes (Khscarymovie4, Bob, Legomonorailfan, Tariq j, Lady K, Asphalt) Doc Brown (Rider Raider) 1 Vote (fhomess) Superman (Bob) 1 Vote (Stickfig) Hector Barbossa (Khscarymovie4) 1 Vote (KotZ) With ten players remaining it takes a majority of 6 to lynch. 2 hours remain. A reminder that not voting will result in a vote-penalty.

  14. Thank you for playing, Forresto! I hope you had fun!
  15. Day Four: Notice Me, Senpai! Forresto, cosplaying as Wonder Woman, headed back to his hotel room. The day had been long and exhausting, but a potential scum had been lynched, and it was looking likely that mostlytechnic would turn up as anti-town. "Boy, that was exhilarating. I can't wait to get back to my room and unwind for a little bit. Mafia's tiring." It didn't take long though for trouble to rear it's ugly head in Forresto's direction. A shadowy figure emerged from the other end of the hall, brandishing a gun. "Hands up where I can see them. No sudden moves." The figure demands. Forresto scoffs. "Ha! Yeah right, I'll show you a thing or two! Feel the wrath of my Lasso of Truth!" ... "You don't actually have your Lasso of Truth on you, do you?" The figure asks. "No." Forresto replies disappointedly. "Well, that makes the next bit easier." The figure states. BANG!! With a pull of the trigger and a followup of muzzle flare, Forresto is blown away by the assailants revolver! The figure makes a hasty retreat, mumbling to themselves. "I imagined this to be a lot harder. Bracelets that deflect bullets, super strength..." They continued to utter ways in which they expected the fatal meeting to end. When day arrived, the cosplayers all gathered together in the convention hall like they had for the previous three days. It had almost become a ritual, as they awaited Kintobor's news regarding alignment and any potential night kills. Today, however, was different. Kintobor was not present through the projector: he was present in the flesh. "Surprised? Welcome to Day Four. I hope you all had good night's sleep. I'm getting my secret lair renovated at the moment, and it unfortunately overlapped with running this, so I'll be hosting the remainder of the game in front of you. Sorry for any inconvenience. With that out of the way, I'll get straight to the point. Mostlytechnic? Scum. His hotel room was utterly devoid of anything that could even make him look remotely town. Good job, townies, you got one. Last night saw one of you being removed from the game in an all too familiar and violent fashion. Forresto, was a devoted townie. We found him dead in the corridors of the hotel last night. Doff your hats if you have one. I have nothing else to inform you of. It's still anyone's game. What happens next is all up to the ten of you, so make your time here mean something! Do your best!" The group of cosplayers convened for the fourth day of discussions as Kintobor and Sakura stood on the podium, whispering in each others ears as they watched the proceedings. 16. Day Four will be posted tomorrow. I figured with Thanksgiving weekend wrapping up we might get better participation. Night action results will be heading out shortly before the thread's put up. Thank you for being patient.
  17. Sorry, but Day 4's going to have to be uploaded tomorrow. I got really busy today. My apologies.
  18. Thank you for joining us, MostlyTechnic! I hope you had fun.
  19. With the day coming to a close, the town had rallied together to lynch mostlytechnic, who was cosplaying as Mad-Eye Moody. Dragged to the front, mostlytechnic made last minute pleas with the crowd. "Look, you can't lynch me! I'm the town blocker! You're making a mistake!" Kintobor appeared on the projector screen, lazily sipping out of a mug. "Well, I'm not going to intercede. Congratulations, town, on another successful day of unanimously picking who you'd like to eliminate. Two days, two "scum claims". We'll have to see if today's has better results than yesterdays." Kintobor grinned, sipping from his mug. "Well, mostlytechnic, any last words?" Mostlytechnic flashed the crowd a smile from beneath his long, dishevelled hair. "Yeah, actually, I do want to say something. You see..." With a dramatic flair, mostlytechnic removed the mask covering his face! "I was never cosplaying as Mad-Eye Moody at all! I was actually cosplaying as Barty Crouch Jr! Haha! What'd have to say about that?" There's an audible level of confusion amongst the cosplayers as Kintobor readies his response. "The same thing I'd say to anyone about to be eliminated, mostlytechnic. Sakura, do the thing." Nodding her oversized head, Sakura began to fiddle with the console she had been fiddling with all day, an item left on the table since the beginning of the game that seemingly went unaccounted for by the con attendees. There was three successive beeps heard, beep, beep, beep, than silence. "What? That's it?" mostlytechnic replied, seemingly relieved. "All that happens is three-" SPLAT!!! Mostlytechnic's head explodes in a fireworks display of blood and gore, with chunky bits of brain nearly getting on the cosplayers costumes: so close to be ruined! In the corner, Sakura silently giggles to herself as Kintobor continues to sip out of his mug. "Whoops! Forgot to mention, I injected you all with nanobots before you came in. Ridiculous, sure, but that's the story I'm going with." Kintobor put his mug aside. "Now then, to bed with you all! I'll have the mess cleaned up before tomorrow morning." The group dispersed as Sakura began to clean up. If she was working alone, she had a long night ahead of her...
  20. Oh boy, here we go, it's already here. 1. What should be the overall theme/genre? As much as I want to return to straight fantasy, I think in a game like this a science-fantasy backdrop might work best with something akin to Starfinder, which takes inspiration from a lot of places. I'd also like to see a bit of Warhammer 40K in there, mainly in terms of some of it's ideas on races: Orcs, Tyrannids, and Necrons, just to name a few. We don't need the grim dark attached to it, but some new ideas and themes would go a ways in differentiating this new game from Heroica 1.0. The main benefit I can see here is that the game is suddenly no longer restricted to Olegaia: we now have an entire galaxy to mess around in. Suddenly a world ending threat is dangerous, but doesn't get goofy when three of them are operating at the same time since they're only affecting one such world. Now they're operating at different ends of the galaxy, and if one succeeds it merely spells doom for a section of the galaxy. We also would have more room to allow creative freedom for QMs. Although I still believe that other QMs should mess around in the sandboxes of other QMs, snagging their NPCs when necessary and building off of the foundations of others, a galaxy of planets allows QMs looking for some kind of niche idea to allow it to manifest without worrying about throwing out canon. Need a city spanning an entire planet? Find a spot for it in the galaxy. What about an alien colony? We can drop that over here, on this planet. A mining outpost colony run by stereotypical southerners? Here's a planet to call your own. How about a planet of primitive humans who fight off robot dinosaurs? That goes over here, and no it is a completely original idea and not an homage, thank you very much! Also, instead of a large, overarching narrative, I'd like to see the game encompass a number of narratives that span a year or two before moving onto a new arc or having the previous arc lead into the new one. That way there we don't have players who have no attachment to "the main plot line" because there isn't one. Sure there'll be major factions, as well as mover and shaker NPCs, but there is no all encompassing arc that the game doesn't revolve around. 2. How closely should the theme/genre be followed? I think it should be followed fairly well, but Heroica encompassed a bunch of classic fantasy staples: we saw encounters with aliens, dinosaurs, and other strange quest ideas. I think it'd be fine to have orcs flying through space as they raid and pillage settlements, because that's par for the course for science fantasy. 3. What aspects of the game should be covered by mechanics? i.e. skills, combat, social interactions, character creation, etc. I'd like to suggest the implementation of a point-buy system for abilities both in and out of combat. As simple as Heroica's character class system was to understand, it inevitably led to issues in terms of certain classes outshining others. So, here's what I'd like to suggest: At character creation, a character purchases a combat and non-combat ability, free of charge. For example, you could purchase the rogue's combat template (steal gold if the target carries any, normal damage to all enemies) as well as the cleric's non-combat ability (healing, in this case). In order to get a different combat ability, you'd have to buy it with levels. Instead of certain classes being available at certain levels, you can purchase abilities with accumulated levels. With this system we could also develop simple skill trees: in order to obtain the Witch's combat template, you have to have either the cleric or rogue template. With non-combat abilities, a character could acquire more slots to obtain more non-combat abilities every ten levels or so. Again, just an idea. I haven't put much thought into it, but it seemed to carry some traction when I brought it up, so who knows. 4. How in-depth should the games mechanics go? I feel like ultimately what needs to happen is an in-depth look at what class skills were useful and which ones weren't: the barbarians ability to rest without a bedroll, the mage's ability to cast spells outside of combat, and so on. There's a bunch there that a either super situational or are downright rarely brought up. I'd like to see some of them either resolved or outright removed. I don't think this game needs to be too complex, because the strength of the previous game was it's simplistic combat design (on paper, at least) and it's great freedom of character creation. 5. Will the design of the general theme/genre and mechanics be group work-shopped or left to selected individuals. I.e. how democratic should the development process be? I think this is ultimately where the benefit of a campaign setting in space. If you don't like one planet's theme, you can move to another one and have an adventure there. I do believe that ultimately the general theme/genre should initially be democratic, like what we're doing now, and then refined by a team of core storytellers who give a bit more detail to the general idea of what's been determined upon, with general updates regarding the direction of the setting before the game officially begins. 6. Should the running of the game be democratic or managed by select individuals? I think that since this is going to be a game that lives or dies by the community. I'd like to see a few positions be democratic while others are more sit in seats to ensure that one person doesn't usurp the game and derail the story. I'm going to suggest three positions: Heroica Loremaster, Heroica Referee, and Heroica Plot Member. The Loremaster is an individual who keeps a permanent seat on the team, and acts as the final say on approving quests, story elements, and any potential conflicting lore. The position is mainly to ensure the integrity of the game's story is maintained and a group of Plot Members don't get elected and decide to change things that would benefit themselves or tarnish another's contribution to the overall world. They also assist the Plot Members in creating major arcs, and discusses with non-Plot Member QMs about quests they intend to run. The Referee's position is elected once a year and is held by a single member of the forum with at least one years experience in the game. An exception will be made for the first player to hold the position, but the intent is to have a player who adjudicates rules and looks into fixing any potential game-breaking class abilities, items, weapons, etc. They also are to have a general solid grasp on the game's mechanics and be the final authority when it comes to rules lawyering. A Plot Member works with the Loremaster to construct major arcs. They also will run quests involving the arcs they have built with the Loremaster to ensure that the Loremaster doesn't have to run all of them at once. This should hopefully help stave off QM fatigue. The position is held for a year or until the end of a major arc, at which point new Plot Members are elected to help write out the next major story arc. As a side note, one can QM and not be a Plot Master, but to be a Plot Master you must have QM'd at least twice. Just some ideas I had. I'm open to criticism or comments on them.
  21. Final Vote Count for Day Three: Mad-Eye Moody (MostlyTechnic) 11 Votes- (Forresto, KotZ, fhomess, Khscarymovie4, Stickfig, LegoMonorailfan, Rider Raider, Tariq j, Asphalt, Bob, Lady K) Oruku Kiray (KotZ) 1 Vote- (MostlyTechnic) With 12 player remaining, it takes a majority of 7 to lynch. With a majority reached, MostlyTechnic is lynched. Day Three is now over. You have 48 hours to send in your night actions. Day wrap-up post will be posted shortly.
  22. Current Vote Count: Mad-Eye Moody (MostlyTechnic) 11 Votes- (Forresto, KotZ, fhomess, Khscarymovie4, Stickfig, LegoMonorailfan, Rider Raider, Tariq j, Asphalt, Bob, Lady K) With 12 player remaining, it takes a majority of 7 to lynch. 2 hours remain. As a reminder, not voting will result in a vote-penalty the following day.
  23. Before I trail off on what'll like be a stream of conscious, I want to say thank you to everyone who participated in the game in whatever capacity. Heroica wouldn't of been the same without you, at all. Whether you played a knight, a wizard, a thief, or a cleric, this game, and this community, welcomed you with open arms, and what this group did in seven years some groups could only dream of. I love the setting of Heroica, warts and all, and it was built by this great community. Thank you everyone. My thoughts on the finale have been covered by just about everyone already, but I'll add that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The idea of bringing back the Founders for one final go was a really clever idea and I'm glad we got to have one last quest in Eubric, which probably is up there with Waterdeep as one of my favourite RPG cities. It almost felt like a love letter to the city in a lot of ways, and I'm glad we got to cap this game off here. I'm going to go over a complete post-mortem on the stuff I did and didn't enjoy with the game when I get a chance, as well as my thoughts on Karie and Annienal, since I'm not 100% done telling Annienal's story. I think there's a bit of unfinished story I wish to tell with her and I may do something to tell it, just not sure what yet. It seems like you cut off here, but I'll add my thoughts on why I chose not to have Annienal participate in 159, and it mainly came down to not wanting to run two characters at the same time. I think the only PC left that Annie was really close to was Vindsval, and I came up with a logical reason why Annienal wouldn't go on 159: to find Warlen and see through her journey to become a dragon. It's not that I disliked Annie as a character, far from it. She grew on me a lot, and I wound up finding Annienal's voice as I played her more. Studious, well mannered, soft spoken, but loyal to a fault. Some of my favourite moments with her involved playing off of Bobby and correcting spelling mistakes in character. Part of my goal with Annienal was to get her to Winged Warrior and inevitably retire her and use her as an NPC dragon to show up and wreck things when a QM needed something of that caliber. Even in a draconic state I imagine she'd be more into hoarding books than shiny objects, although shiny object would still be used as a bed. She's a dragon, she's going to relish doing dragon-related things.
