  1. Duh, don't know where I was getting 'Mantis' from... As to some of the Fourth World folk, I have good plans for a Granny Goodness, Darksied and Lightray, but there are some doozies that are giving me trouble. I really, really want Big Barda and Mr Miracle, but their masks and the way their colors lay out make it tricky. I also have some rough plans for Kalibak, Desaad and a Parademon. After getting all the pieces I'll need, I figure this little group will run me $100+, which is oddly worth it, to me.
  2. @oo7: I looked at your customs...really nice stuff; I especially like Mantis and Captain Cold.
  3. Thank you! I am glad you like my Orion. He is one the minis I am fairly stoked with. Plus, I love the New Gods stuff. Their Silver Age stories and art are gaudy, sci-fi throwbacks and often feature some of my favorite comic artists. I have an alternate helmet for the Orion minifig now, but it is from Brickwarriors and I try to keep the non-purist stuff out of this thread. I have minifig WIP/plans for a few of the inhabitants of Apokolips and New Genesis. And...it is the Judge from Judgement Day, a bittersweet episode. It is a great story, watching our favorite bad guys sweat it out, but it is also the last episode of the Batman animated stories.
  4. Page 5 has a pretty good Scarlet Witch...I've been collecting parts for it.
  5. It's been nice and frigid outside, a perfect excuse to stay home and create some more minifigs for my growing collection! Again, thanks for the ideas everyone, many of these are pretty much grabbed from this thread. Also, almost all of these are waiting for a perfect part, here and there. What a slippery slope this purist thing is... Some mystic/magic dudes with red and blue color schemes, one of which is the first openly gay super hero (props to him), Doc Strange and Wiccan: Carter and Colson, agents of SHIELD: Oh, you obscure heros/villians, how I loveth thee! Shang-Chi and Iron Man's friend, the Ghost: So, I only have two of these yellow rubberbands, which I believe came in the first Mindstorms set. I keep needing it, so it has been stolen a few times (sorry, Wasp). I need more of them. Anyway, here is Doc Sampson and a WIP of Black Panther: I almost forgot to photo these two. Absorbing man is waiting on some different pants and Mysterio would like a green set of legs and a purple cape, but I think they both work well enough. Lol on AM's "ball and chain": I thought the coincidences between these two were funny. Not only do they both like slaying bad guys, but they also each have dress parts!! Ha. Justice is served, straight from the Scourge and the Judge:
  6. I forgot about this, but ReZourceman has made a gold cane. It is on his Kingpin in the 'Purist Superhero' thread, maybe on page 9 or 10? I have no idea where he got it, however.
  7. Hulk_Smash, there is a couple alternatives, but I don't find any of them to be appealing: 1. Ninjago NRG Jay...currently about $15-25 2. Ecilpsegrfx has a $20 mini with a good head for beast or Nightcrawler...it is $20 and not purist 3. HammersteinNWC has this, but I am not sure if the head is Lego: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=78422 Good luck and let us know what you go with. Currently, my Nightcrawler is stuck in WIP-mode over his face...I've been using a plain, blue 1x1 round as a stand-in. ;) @Raincloud Dustbin...I really want to help with your searches, but I can't really think of anything yet...in fact, I want a gold cane too!
  8. Hey, autorazr, welcome aboard. I really enjoyed looking through your gallery. It gave me a lot of good inspiration...to shamelessly steal for my own creations!!
  9. Lol, Foggy. Nice little supporting cast, here. I got some new parts in the mail yesterday and the lady is out of the house tonight, so I'll see about putting some new figs together. Unrelated, I am needing to get some certain colors/parts, even multiples. Anyone know of a good minifig to use for these parts, preferable on the cheap so I can get a few: -Pink arms and legs; even torsos -Green torsos -Yellow legs...especially the hips or crotches (I dunno what we AFOLers call that piece)
  10. I'm an older comic fan (50s-80s are my favorites, the industry got a little...serious for me after that), so I don't really see the appeal of Iron Patriot. I think I mentioned when I first saw him, I thought it was a joke, like Spider-Ham. Teen Titans, though? Yeah, I'd be all over that! Hmmm, maybe a MOC of the TT tower is in order...
  11. I agree about this ring thing...to scale and they'd be unplayable with my super manly fingers...out of scale, like LotR, and I'd have to store them. If ten tiny rings increases the cost of the set even an iota, I vote to skip them altogether. Btw, I've used my two LotR rings (that sounds funny) as wrist cuffs on a custom, so they aren't totally unusable. ;)
  12. Yup, that harpy is darn good. The rest are really cool too, very creative...but the harpy steals the show. Edit: Lol, 'figbarf'.
  13. Out of all these sets, I think I am only really into the Mandarin, Pepper Potts, Zod and Lois Lane. I don't even really know who the rest of them are. I've seen pics of Iron Patriot for years on the interwebs and always assumed it was a joke. Man, I'm old.
  14. Well, you've hit on another favorite of mine: Quicksilver. I also have him in the works, along with a Scarlett Witch I am copying from this thread, a few pages back. I am also psyched to finally have inspired you on a minifig! Good stuff, all around.
  15. Alrighty, I've got some new stuffs: Completely jacked from ReZourceman, cuz it was just too good of an idea for a great, backwater character: Some more Spidey bad guys, here we have Hammerhead and Kingpin (anyone know what the connector part I used on his cane is called...and does it come in black?): Not purist, because I wiped paint from his face...also if you put these chopped cuffs on him, it resembles his gauntlets. I have plans to get him back to purist with a yellow helmet and another Nova face; niether of which do I have, right now....anyway, the Shocker!!: Some new mutants...not the team, lol. White Queen: And Omega Red and Cable (I swear I'd mostly built my Red before you posted ReZourceman!!):
  16. ReZourceman...these are off the hook. First, I have half a moleman on my desk right now, but I need some tiny green legs. What are those from? Second, you've hit on some my favorites: Cloak and Dagger, Iron Monger, Doc Sampson and Stilt-man?!? Too cool. Also, I am curious, what are people's methods of aquiring parts for their custom purist minifigs? Do you buy/bricklink select pieces and/or minifigs to rip apart? Do you buy sets, retail and use those minifigs? I ask because I need like four or five ethnic faces and I am having a hard time figuring it all out. Bricklink is still new frontier for me, but that does seem like a semi-not-bank-breaking way to go about getting the parts I need.
  17. Movies are cool, and we are in a golden age of super hero movie themes. That said, I have never really been interested in super hero movie themed collectables. They never, ever look as good as the actual comics they are based on. Further, the colors and style of comics translates into minifigs better than these movies, imo. Has Lego ever tried doing a licensed property that wasn't based around a movie? I know they did Sponge Bob, but I would love to see an action line from Lego that wasn't hemmed in or tethered by a movie property. I think it is premature and unproved to say such a license would never work. Without trying, how would we know?
  18. DD is the one character I want most from the whole Marvel universe...In fact, I want one in red, one in yellow/black and a Matt Murdock.
  19. I hope not...humor, super heros and lego are a winning combo, imo.
  20. No doubt...for $30, we will get three minifigs, a tiny vehicle (WTH is that vehicle that comes in the Doc Ock set?) and some walls. If it is $40, maybe we'll get one more minifig and a slightly better vehicle. Get ready to MOC it up, people.
  21. @ReZourceman: I know a classic Namor would be preferable (for the non-purist route, I saw ankle wings made by some company, I think Brickarms?), he also has that other, fairly cool look, wearing all black. In that version, he has black pants:http://www.google.co...,r:20,s:0,i:216
  22. I was pretty hardcore into Lego as a kid, in the late 70s, early 80s (still have these sets). As a teenager and young adult, I still collected action figures and would occasionally purchase a small Lego set when the urge hit, but really didn't collect. In 2001, I was working at a KB toy store for the holiday season and used my employee discount to get about ten sets--mostly SW and Fright Knight stuff. I built them and put them away. I then got into tabletop gaming, painting and customizing metal and plastic minis. This took up nearly all my hobby time until summer of 2012. I'd decided I'd had enough of the mini-gaming world, but still needed something for my creative side. The super hero sets and Monster Fighters really brought me back into the fold. I quickly collected all the available sets, but wanted even more! Modern Lego is just so slick--tons of features and gorgeous design. Last weekend, I got into purist super hero customization, which will most likely send me into the poor house. Oh well, at least I'll have some great minifigs!
  23. Ha, I knew you would like the Black Knight. I'm working on creating his uncle, the evil-doer who used the name in the late 50s, early 60s. I find a lot of the comic characters from the 'Silver Age' will work well in Lego. Not only do I love the style from that era (Jack Kirby--I love him), but the block colors and their slightly humorous slant make for great minifigs.
  24. Well, I've remained purist so far, Oky, but something tells me I will eventually stray a bit, for rubber bands and making my own clothing...I'm both a 'do-it-yourself' and 'do-what-you-want' type person. I'll always try and stay purist, but I just know myself to well to promise, lol. Anyway, here is my last batch for a bit, as I am out of fleshy parts and need new torsos and legs. I have a couple parts orders in, we'll see how long they take to arrive. Hope you guys like them! Colossus...def still needs some work: Here is my latest in the "Obscure" line...although, he did get his own 4-issue,limited series once...The Black Knight (his red cape, under the black cape did not turn out well in the pic, but looks cool, so I thought I'd mention it): And, two more Spidey bad guys, idea from you guys here: Sorry for the fuzzy pics, I am at work today and had to use a bunch of window light...somewhat uncontrollable.
