Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
kc2dc replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I hope it's not a police station, I already built a modular police station. I think a bank would be okay. The arcade sounds fine so long as it's also other stuff such as residential on the upper floors. -
I do have planes hanging on fishing lines as though they are on approach to the runway. I do agree, the big planes are too much. I just always want to show everything, but that often just makes clutter. The corporate jet actually fits the runway perfectly so I think I will just take off the cargo and large passenger plane or build some extra taxiway space for them. And I do agree, the ferris wheel really adds some nice height and movement. I'm going to motorize a tram and maybe get a helicopter rotor to revolve over near the airport to get some movement over there. Thanks for the feedback!

I remember seeing them on wiki a while back because I found it odd that there was a wiki page just for lego modulars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Modular_Buildings

This is awesome. I hope you don't mind me doing the same thing. I want to run a short line near my airport since that part of my city has no active trains. Now that I know it can be done, I think I will run out and buy this set and start working on it. I just need to find a monorail motor. I like how you have some monorail at street level. Have any more pics?

Everybody should get this set. It's one of the best kits lego has put out in years. Blast to build, runs flawlessly and really adds to a city. I just used the power functions RC. Works great and you can adjust to any speed, remotely. It's way too fast just plugging the motor in. Nice combo with the carousel, that's a really nice looking build.

This is awesome. I wish I had room for something like this.

Hopefully it's okay to post this here too. I posted it a few days ago in the trains section, but really wanted to show it to the town people too. I would love to hear any feedback, especially ideas on how to expand without taking too much away. The only think I can think of is to built a tunnel on the back and push back and move the houses to the top of the hill to free up some space on the ground level.

Thanks again for the replies. I made the video, but my son is who is talking. While I designed most of the city, it's my son that got me back into legos. I'm an urban planner, so the city is basically an extension of that. Everything about the city has to make sense and be a part of a master plan. We have really tried to design a functioning city within the space we have. My son is the same way, he won't even allow anything in the city that is not realistic (in lego world), so nothing that's out of scale, no super heros or simpsons :). The city actually does make sense. There is a single road that connects it all together and it wraps around a bay (some of the bay is open table, so imaginary). You can drive the long way around from the airport to the downtown or simply take the train across the river. There is a train yard, a downtown, a suburban area, and the airport area. It's a lot of fun, but now we are thinking of ways to utilize the space and expand. One thing I may do is build a hill side and tunnel on the back and put the single family homes on top of the train tracks to free up some space there. The only other thing I can really do is to start going up and making the buildings taller. Regardless, it's been fun building it and I still enjoy the design aspect of trying to fit a full function city with so many moving parts and trains into such a small space.

Yes it's permanent, but it really doesn't get too dusty. Probably because we never open windows and keep the door shut so not much gets in there. Well it's kind of embarrassing. I mean, when we have visitors, they have to sleep on an air mattress on the floor somewhere because the legos live in our spare bedroom!

It's been a while since I have posted, but it's also been a while since my city has been fully operational. After a few expansions and updates, the trains are running again and so I made a video and thought I would share it here. I have gotten some great feedback from people here and implemented many recommendations, so please let me know what you think. I don't get a chance to show my city off much, so this is one of my only places to get feedback. Keep in mind that I'm very limited on space now, so while the city is very built up, I have always tried to make a realistic functioning well thought out city my main goal. Thanks!

I finally go the stadium into the city. Here are some pics. I think it turned out okay considering this was the ONLY place the stadium could go. I guess it's in sort of an industrial area, but it's close to transit and the airport! Bonus pics of entire city

Cool to see this thread brought back. Thanks for the replies! Here are some recent pics. The terminal was rebuilt as a modular.

In case anybody is interested. Here is a video of the stadium my son did. I don't do videos haha I don't know how to embed it.

Well, what's wrong with a left handed catcher? :)

I think it's way overpriced for what you are getting. I'm on the fence with the trolley, something about it bugs me. I like the 2013 blue version more. All the minifigs and cars and misc "city" accessories are great, but they will just get parted out and used in other places in my city because everything outside the tram isn't all that impressive as designed. While, I'm not all that impressed, mainly at the price point, maybe it will be better once I build it. This should be trimmed down to a $50-$75 set. I have zero self control and buy most city themed lego sets and will no doubt buy this set and incorporate it into my city.

If anybody wants to check out the finished project. Told you, I planned on completing it with 100% lego. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=105160

Nice!

You must have more room. I'm maxed out, using a full bedroom. Nothing major in the works, just some tweaking to get the stadium to fit and make sense. Between the stadium, the police station and the new detective modular, I'm tapped out for a while!
