  1. What is it you are trying to control with the reed switch?
  2. Are you referring to magnetic suspension system for vehicles. That is some technical stuff. Just look at this wiki on magnetic actuators.
  3. That is amazing bartnect. Though I'm a big fan of the mechanical versions, your coin operated EV3 version is incredible. I clearly see that the core shape of the drawing is a heptagon. I'm guessing that the EV3 is programmed to stop based on the platform rotation, because this machine is capable of generating wide variety of unique patterns and if all those pattern can be drawn completely with in one revolution of the platform. But I not sure on this because of the special part I see with the drawing arms that have a website on it, that is probably the true way on how it stops.
  4. Using magnets as piston has its draw backs, first major draw back is that the magnet piston will attract or repel each other so close piston spacing is a definite problem when dealing with those magnetic forces. So no this could not be use with a standard lego engine like a V8.
  5. Nice work! I must say that the gearack is one of those tough parts to make because of the tolerances required on it. There is tons of potential behind a liftarm gearacks. Watch this video on the programmable drummer and think about using liftarm gear racks on it instead of the current studded method as was used.
  6. The gearrack is on the wrong side of the lift arm. It should be on top.
  7. Here is the second part of the generator. This time I use a Full wave bride rectifier along with the Half wave single diode rectifier and capacitor to store the electricity that is produced by the generator. Now I'm measuring the volts on the XL motor while its being power by the generator to serve as a base to compare the two different types of rectification methods. In my the first video I use a center tapped rectifier for the generator, for transformers it is a Full wave rectifier but for the generator it is a Half wave rectifier. The increase in voltage through the Full wave bridge rectifier over the other rectifiers proves that the statement Edward Leedskalnin made about generators in his book Magnetic Current "Now about the generator. In the first place all currents are alternating." Now the question is why does both Full wave and Half wave rectifiers go down to the same voltage when the XL motor is being powered by the generator.
  8. Thanks, Even though I am using this a motor one of the other ideas is to use it as a generator but because of the pvc tubing layer between the coils and the magnet the generator power is not in full force... I haft to design a set of generator coils so the magnets can be used to there maximum effect. Thanks, I can make it spin faster if I time the other side of the magnetic swing. but doing this requires more transistors
  9. I like the gear rack, maybe the liftarm could also be longer and have the gear rack centered on the liftarm.
  10. Thanks, Here is a video of it in action. I use two power sources in the video to power it in the video, the first power source I use is the lego 9v battery box and then the second power source I use my 19v 7000 ma laptop power supply. It could have performed better if there was not a there is a thick layer of pvc tubing between the magnets and the coils.
  11. I agree, currently the only way to build with magnets is through the DC motor. It would be amazing to see a building block magnet that is for lego. Something that is both particle and can be use in conjunction with the wide list of lego DC motors and have the feeling you can build anything with those magnets take for example this 3 cylinder solenoid engine.
  12. Wow! This is Impressive should be in the Hall of Fame for the size of those tires. Nice work!
  13. Thanks, This is just a start. Another thing here is about using the DC motor as a generator and powering another DC motor, Take for example XL motor used to power another XL motor, I can turn the XL generator by hand and power turn the Xl motor with more force then this machine does spinning at 2500 rpm.
  14. Hi, This is a Magneto PMH Generator. Here I am making magnetic currents in the U core by using a magnetic structured armature that has North pole magnets on one side and South pole magnets on the other side to focus currents down the PMH generator with a center tapped rectifier and capacitor to store the electricity that is produced. A DC motor and a AA 9 Volt battery box is the main power source to turn the magnet armature around. My last project was going to be a Flux Switching Alternator but here on this machine the magnets on the armature are not switching the domains around in the core but here its rather pulses one streaming direction of magnet current through the U Core. This Generator is able to produce a no-load voltage of 15 volts, please note that the coils do not fit precisely over the U core and that diminish the magnetic effect that is occurring between the coils and the metal core. When I put a load on the capacitor the RPMs on DC motor rises I demonstrate this with my stepper motor as the capacitors load. Now when I power the XL's internal motor, it barley running with any driving force behind it and it is able to turn the planetary gear sets weakly around at 20 rpm.
  15. I stop building on the flux switching generator right now. I decided to make something else and use magnets on the armature. I've already completed it.
  16. Are you going to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower when your there.
  17. This machine I posted in this thread is the technology that apart of technology that will without doubt send everyone back in time. Tips for the Rocket People. Yes your right and for this magnetic application it is know as armature. This armature here is best suited at making Alternating Currents but the DC motor armatures is timed to make Direct Current.
  18. Get a real engine then you can play with gas.
  19. I tore apart a chainsaw and found this metal guy and now I'm going to build a magnetic current flux switching alternator with it. Edit: Updated pictures
  20. WOW! That is amazing. Now that is how it's done, what an excellent machine. What is so amazing that got me excited on the machine. It's the fact that there is only one switch to run two cylinders in sequential manner due to the path of least resistance. Great Job!
  21. I've been reading about using transistors to drive the three phase motor. Tho I'm not quite sure yet on how to time the transistors properly to simulate the ac wave form. Yes I'm serious. I've just made the Gear Adapter to mesh with the pinion gear on the three phase AC motor.
  22. I think it is a great idea to have a power supply to powertest the motors. However I've just recently pick up a Three phase motor on the Lego scale. What kind of modification for the Powersupply will be require to power a Three Phase motor.
  23. Truly this was inspired by this impossibe nail through wood.
  24. If your interested in a challenge. I would love to see a custom made functional valve gear for a steam engine.
