  1. Although I love the 8860, which was the pinnacle of it's era, IMO 8865, 8880 and 8448 are slightly better cars for different reasons: 8865 Test Car: 3-speed (unsynchronized) transmission, foldable headlights, V4 fake engine and finally independent (double whisbone) suspension on all wheels for the first time, very good steering geometry with Ackermann. 8880 Supercar: the alpha and omega for supercars, 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, 4 wheel independent (double whisbone) suspension, 4 speed synchronized gearbox, foldable headlights, V8 fake engine, steering with Ackermann. Function-wise it is at least on the same level as UCS supercars of nowdays. But I have to admit that it is not without flaws: it has high level of friction due to the very complex drive train. 8448 Super Street Sensation: 5 speed synchronized gearbox with reverse, V8 fake engine which you can mounted either to front or to the rear of the car, modular design, studded chassis but stylized body created by hoses, axles and panels, gull wing doors or convertible top with dumping system, independent suspension on all wheels with very good geometry. Stickers are the weak point in this set. If you really want one, I would go for 8880.
  2. Yes, this new string was introduced with 42070, and is much better than the old one used on 42009, so probably will work with the heavy duty truck. We'll see.
  3. If this heavy duty tow truck can actually lift and tow the 42078 Mack truck, it will be a value-adding factor for me, as I like to play with my Technic sets. Although metal hooks would have been preferred because these plastic ones look very weak. Otherwise good 42009 set has problem with lowering it's constructed plastic hook when there is no extra weight on it. Does anyone know why LEGO terminated the good old metal hooks from their assortment?
  4. Thanks for the info, agree that it can be a good model to mod, although I would have preferred some interesting mechanism at the back.
  5. 6x6 sounds good. Can you tell us what is at the back of the Zetros truck? Hope it is not an empty box.
  6. I keep my flagship Technic models assembled as I like to play with them and 8043 is no exception. I built it in 2011 originally and after a few years I experienced the same slow moving. It was in a closed cabinet so dust cannot caused the problem. I disassembled and then assembled it two times over the years but performance did not get really better (never performed as new) and of course I always tried it with totally new batteries. Some said it can be ABS dust or ageing and small deforming of gears because of huge strain in this model. But the worst case is if the PF M-motors wears out over time (it is very likely) as replacing them will be a real headache after discontinuation. So looking forward to your findings and solution.
  7. Well, I hope it looks like this, in the scale of 8110 Unimog, with only one motor to drive compressor, with lots of long pneumatic cylinders (no remote control) , with big block fake engine, with proper suspension and drivetrain, and probably with an interesting function never seen before.
  8. Liked the original LEGO set as a kid (never had it though) and love your version. Collective pitch for the main rotor and rotating main and tail rotors together is just stunning in this scale and the heli looks superb. This is the perfect little Technic set for me.
  9. This is an amazing build. Love the small details. I like it much better than LEGO's own attempts in Winter Village series lately.
  10. You are right to some extent, old cars did not have fancy panelling and of course these are also far from being flawless: first cars have basic functionality and use unsynchronised transmission for example, but at least you can see how a transmission works. My point is that these new Technic 1:10 cars (Porsche and Ferrari) offer less function-wise than 8865, 8880 and 8448 in similar scale. As Technic should be more about functions than appearance, I don't think it is pure nostalgia, you can also check this on Technicopedia site or Erik Leppen"s factual post above. Please, don't get offended by this and I am happy with the fact that you and many other fans like and buy these new 1:10 cars because that is why LEGO Technic can offer (at least for my taste) more interesing produtcs in the future.
  11. Totally agree. That's why I will never buy these cars. 1:8 supercars (Porsche, Bugatti and Lamborghini) are good but for me the pinnacle of Technic cars were these: https://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5373312
  12. This is truly amazing. Looks like a dream layout and works like a charm. I can see lot of work was put in there and it is well thought-out. As Dav1d wrote, you have captured the 12V spirit. Seeing this magic was partly responsible not to sell my 12V stuff.
  13. Totally agree. I also signed the petition as this LEGO set has nothing to do with war imo.
  14. Thank you very much for the answers. No speed regulation does not sound good unfortunately. I thought it can do the same as 60198 with this set up.
  15. Very excited and plan to purchase it as I love the original Crocodile engine - it is a piece of industrial art. Hope it will look good next to my original 3 Creator Expert trains. My questions though: can I use the Powered Up motorized version (88009 and 88013) with 88010 remote controll? And will the 88005 lights work with this set up out of the box? Thanks in advance.
  16. It made my day. Technicopedia partly insipred me to get back to Lego Technic after dark ages.
  17. @kbalage It was a very informative and thought-out review and your comments are in line with what I think about this set. Thank you and keep up good work.
  18. I am really excited to get my hands on this model. At first sight the final product looks stunning and meets my expectations. Waiting for reviews by Jim and Sariel. And the design video - it was worth doing just only for to get some introspection into Uwe's work studio and to hear him speak finally. Very much appreciated as he is one of my favourite LEGO designers.
  19. In the afternoon I thought to have some sleep but then I saw this article and sleepiness was gone. Thank you for the detailed and well thought-out review Jim and of course stunning photos, as always. Was worth waiting for it. This was the first set I bought from the 2019 Technic lineup as I was eager to see how Control+ performs compared to the old crawlers and I came to a similar conclusion as you: I hoped that Control+ would bring a significant performance upgrade and versatility compared to PF, but unfortunately that's not the case (for the time being). Overall I like the set, it looks agressive as it should, it runs well but lacks torque, which you can improve only if you sacrifice speed. And one thing that still bothers me is the lack of physical controller. If third parties can make usable controllers then LEGO should have created one as well for this amount of money, because looking your mobile phone instead of looking the action detracts from joy a lot IMO.
  20. 3:10 18:6 6:4 9:3 4:2 1:1 Great entries, I loved to watch the videos, it was a hard choice.
  21. True that. And that rumour was totally false, starting with backhoe on the list...
  22. I have to agree with you. And thats why I will never buy it. Instead I will expand my 12v collection.
  23. Totally agree with agrof, this set is a big let down... I've just added the much better 8460 to my collection.
