MOC: 10-wide Land Rover Defender
rriggs replied to monoton's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually, Defenders can have either depending on the age and the model. Only more recent County models had a body colour roof as standard. My point was that a white roof would make a LEGO Defender more instantly recognisable as a Land Rover rather than it be mistaken for anything else. Cheers Rog -

They would be great for headlights! I like the green roof too but it would be more instantly recognisable as a Defender with a white roof. Cheers Rog -

To give it a real Defender feel, you need to find bigger headlamps and make the roof white and more defined in it's shape. Cheers Rog -
The play is about a man our age or The play is about a man who is our age He plays for the club Real Madrid or He plays for Real Madrid Cheers Rog

I think it looks good - and it clearly works! I do wonder if it would be possible with either smaller submerged prop(s) or with no probs at all? Did you try it without the props? I know some real-life 6x6 amphibs get all their in-water propulsion from the wheels. Unfortunately, I don't have enough Technic to try it myself! Cheers Rog

Washing machine - not dishwasher... Cheers Rog -
ASK HERE How to clean your LEGO sets/parts?
rriggs replied to jngunsw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's pets for you! :-) Stick all the affected pieces in a pillow case and bung in the washing machine for a nice wash. As you are only talking about dissovable bio waste that will probably do all you need. Cheers Rog -
While there is nothing wrong with the above, I think that either of the following sounds more natural: My class said it was a good movie. OR The whole class said it was a good movie. Also, I would say film rather than movie because I speak English and not American... Either version is correct - but it depends on the tense of the question: If the question was "What time was the party finished?" then the first answer is better. If the question was "What time did the party finish?" then the second answer is better. Cheers Rog

0) lots of us use LDD. Most parts are there on the latest version although you may have to search for some of them! 1) that's a difficult one until you know that kind of MOC you will build... 2) a mixture of using LDD and finding out as you go along! If you look at threads on here there's often mention of waiting for parts deliveries during a build 3) buying anything as parts (not just LEGO) will often be more expensive than buying individual components. What webcam/camera is good for set photographs
rriggs replied to Galaxyconquest01's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Webcams are not ideal as the resolution and the focus aren't great and close up shots will tend to be poor. I use a cheap bog standard digi cam (normally set to 2m pixels) and have not had a problem. Pretty much any digital camera will do the job but make sure than you have one with macro function (normally a flower symbol) as this will help with close up/detail shots. Most have this function. A tripod or stand will help a lot too. I bought a four inch desktop tripod for £1 and it makes taking decent quality shots so muchbeasier. Lastly, don't forget about lighting. You may need to play around to get this just right - house lights tend to be a bit yellow, sun is good but not always in the right place at the right time and some camera flashes reflect on LEGO. Try it a few different ways and see what works. Don't start spending on different lighting until you've done some testing as you may not need it. Cheers Rog -
Logging in from an iphone - looses username
rriggs replied to roamingstop's topic in Forum Information and Help
I log in from both iPad and iPhone (more than my PC) and stay logged in no probs on both. Check your iOS updates and Safari updates in App Store. Also check your Safari settings and make sure you haven't Disabled cookies. Cheers Rog -
Not that I'm aware of - Anyway isn't the car a Caddy anyway so more likely to be on the other side of the Atlantic? I think it's a really nice MOC - the front end of the hearse in particular is fantastic. I do wonder if there is some way you could add rails/roof rack to the roof (for wreaths, etc)? It's the only part of the hearse that doesn't look right. Just a bit plain somehow... Cheers Rog

Loving the folding doors already! Really authentic. Are you going to go for a white plastered slightly art deco feel as was the fashion? Cheers Rog

What childhood names did you have for parts?
rriggs replied to caperberry's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I forgot that one on my list!! We called them them same. Trans plates and tiles were called "lights". I guess because we only had 1x1s and we only used them as lights on cars, etc. Cheers Rog -

Fascinating topic! My brothers and I did most dimensions pretty sensibly (eg 4x2, 1x8, etc) but did have different names for many items: Legoman = Minifig Plate = Baseplate Flat = Plate Flat-Flat = Tile Slope = Sloped Brick Roundie = Rounded Brick Twirler = Small Turntable I'm sure there were more but I'm getting old and forget.... A lot of the rest were fairly normal descriptions I think. Cheers Rog -
It's looking good! Love the barber's shop chair in particular and Coles which has a real Woolies feel to it. Great job Cheers Rog

Looks good and is instantly recognisable (the colour scheme sure helps!). A couple of improvements would be to change the headlights from four to two (although I'm not sure how) as this will be more realistic. Also, you might want to jack up the suspension a tad. Cheers Rog

That is a great little model! The finshing touch in your setup story would be the minifig moving the generator to behind the unit where it would be more out of customers' earshot. Cheers Rog

So it can rotate and turn the sails into the wind. Another awesome creation! Cheers Rog -
Possibly the best example of a realstic version of the front end of a minifig scale vehicle I have seen. So simply done yet so accurate! Great job! Cheers Rog

I would dispute that... lol - but your point is valid and as the vote is overwhelming for the blue jump suit with orange stripes gets the job! Cheers everybody Rog

HaHa! Not quite... I worked in the bus and coach industry for many years (driving, managing and consulting). Cheers Rog

Need Tier Help with LDD
rriggs replied to Dub's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Your chassis rails are not exactly 6 studs wide so the plate can't be placed. Best to start again and put the chassis rails onto the plate before fitting the wheels and axles. Cheers Rog -
For me, Modular is not defined by a specific set of rules. It is about the level of realism, the scale and - more importantly - the level of detail. They have a less child-like feel and mre detail to the design of the building while still encompassing many LEGO City features. Cheers Rog
