  3. OoC: At work but noticing some things I shoul have/will edit in once I get home. The watchmen have a specific class that I've poste a few times but that I should have put in the post with them. For this battle Solimon's race is "Mutant" and Parvati's is "Orc". EDIT: I've edited in the Guard info (slightly tweaked the class because I can!) and fixed the nostrum and chicken drumstick.
  4. Fun fact: Boomingham is confusing a saber that he sold with a sword he got in 105. He has bad memory... not me.
  5. Boomingham blinks wildly as Torakai disappears... but his visage is transferred, in Boomingham's mind, unto his successor, the great swirling mass that Taerun has become. The crumbling of castle walls still drift in front of Boomingham's swimming eyes. He knows the beast will defend itself against anything elemental, and so he draws an oft-forgotten sword, the silver sword some young lad sent him a few Grogmases ago. His son, Barty? No... a boy named Atramor... headstrong. Had said he hoped it helped him in a time like this... Boomingham wonders where the young boy is now as he faces off against a demon. Sticking to the back row, sword raised, Boomingham strikes at Taerun with his Silver Sword.

  9. OoC: As I said, pictures will come Monday or Tuesday. Darkstan leads his team back out of the alleyway and around the block, finding what is most probably the backdoor to the operation. Andrew waits five minutes, then nods to the heroes. He busts down the door. "City Watch. Assuming you behave, this won't be a problem." The Native Sons do not behave. 10. "Like I said, there was more than one thing to grow used to, but I'm a-okay again now," replies Bobby flatly. He turns his dead stare onto his friend. "Nice to see you again, dog." "That's ain't a bad bet. I'll take it." Bobby salutes Na'im. "Bro, you just made a deal with a demon, dig?" "Yo, no bro, I think it was like honest to goodness Zoot, you know? Or like maybe a demon just saying that he was Zoot, dig? That's easy as pie. Watch: I am Zoot!" proclaims Bobby and the shadows seem to wiggle and shiver. He giggles emotionlessly and blushes. "Doesn't mean a thing. But like, I do feel like it was really Zoot, you know? Just like a tickle on my spine tells me so. But who knows, you know?"
  11. "Not friends, fim-fam. Familia. My family. They don't have any choice but to deal with me, you dig? They just gotta, 'cause that's the way family be, know what I mean? Like, they were freaked the geek out, but once I told mom and pop what happened that was it." "Master Young Bucks, you, I can jive with that," laughs Bobby impassively. He snaps his fingers and gives a thumbs up. "Aces." "You know Zooty-Zoot? I ain't got anything I know 'bout him 'kept that he's big and bad. He was all about making this big deal where I sold my soul or some shiz but then never told me what to do about it after. So I guess I'm just chillaxing until he decides it's time to do something with me? You know anything else he'd like... want? He just dipped after we shook hands and he screwed us." Bobby blushes - hard to see, but with his new pale skin it appears easily around the rim of the mask. "Yo, sis, I'mma be straight with you and say I still ain't got a lick of Orcish in me. You gonna have to teach me same way I taught you how to talk like you on the streets of Eubric, you dig? Else I'm only gonna get like two or three words out of each of your sentences. Ain't asking you to talk different-" he shoots Na'im a sly teasing glance- "just asking you help me learn, you know what I'm saying?"
  12. OoC: Stickfig, please boldly state the final plan. As I said, I am on vacation this weekend, but hopefully will be able to post the battle tomorrow, though the pictures will come Monday. This is the first quest in a while I didn't take pictures for beforehand save for a few, and it is not paying off.
  13. "You are right..." answers Parvati thoughtfully, as if she has never considered this before. "I guess he would not say eat or be eaten. He could have consumed my soul, after all, and received my powers. But he did not." "As for cider, you should try Lady Luck's Locale. I'm not sure I would be welcome there, but I think it's a more than safe place, if rumors are to be believed." "If we're all done swapping favorite bars," says Andrew. "We're here." The heroes are at the end of an alley. A door that doesn't quite fit in it's frame hangs loosely from rotten hinges. It is dark inside, but the heroes can hear faint voices and the stink of sweat and cigar smoke. "Knowing you, heroes, if this was still your operation we'd be busting the door down weapons drawn. Trouble with that is that the Native Sons, like all gangs, have a hierarchy. If we go in the front, the mooks will hold us off while the big bosses escape out the back. We don't want that - if you want to know where your sister is, and if Bert and I want to make this a good arrest, we're going to need all of them." "So, best thing to do is to divide and conquer. Bert and I will take two heroes and bust down the door. Has to be us - if it isn't the Watch, and is a pair of foreigners, one an Orc, they might stand their ground. The winged one and no-hands can take two heroes and wait around the back way to stop the bosses when they make a break for it." "Any questions?" How would the heroes divide themselves?
  14. "I'm all good dog," rasps Bobby's hollow voice as he gives a thumbs up. "Have just been getting used to my new look, you know what I mean? Turns out it ain't so popping-popular with like Paladins and ladies and all that shiz. And also my fim-fam, but we tight so though it took them like a week or two, they're cool with it now." Bobby attempts to smile, but the mask is unflinching. "Theres some... other shiz to get used to too, but it's all good." "It was a trick, sis. Thought Zoot was going to help us out. Think we all did, you dig? But turns out it wasn't the way. Whole thing was a whole big mess, know what I'm saying? Ain't no winners, whole lot of losers, that's the way I'm thinking on it."
  15. Boomingham's head upon awaking is filled with crying voices, but he silences them immediately. The voices grow calm. Everything grows calm. There is silence and tranquility as he stares down the horrific demon Torakai. He drags Scupperer off the floor and takes halting steps towards the abomination. Suddenly, some dried face farm goblin stands in his path, demanding something of him. He can hear a piercing elvish voice from Gods only knows where commanding him to give her a halberd, so he does before continuing his march.
  16. "Geezard and Giselle were right, Matthias. It does us no good to ignore what the wall is really for. It is meant to cage these people. You think they are unable to aspire to more? The Hovels are dangerous, but can produce greatness just the same as any part of this city. You can't honestly tell me that the rich produce fewer bad eggs than the poor." He points to the wall in the distance. "That has only served as a barrier. It says to these people 'this is as far as you can go, so don't try to go further'. It has made this a part of the city that will feed on itself." "Zane began as a slave here in the Hovels," says Parvati defensively. "And he has ascended higher than anyone else in Eubric. This is Eubric proper, as far as I'm concerned." "I am sure you do not do things badly." Solimon smiles curtly. "Who, pray tell, instructed you to join Heroica? If you are one who only does what is instructed, as you say." "A man after my own heart," says Everyman. "You'll do just fine here." "Zane could lead. But I don't think he wants to." Parvati grins. "I think he'd say: eat or be eaten. But maybe that's what a good leader would say, in the forest." "Mostly it's all delusions. They'll serve whoever they think will give them the largest leg up. Some lean Bonaparte, others Hinckwell, still others Shadeaux. Guild of Invision has got a few. The Ji Pei still fewer... and I don't know any, 'kept maybe a secret magic user or two, that would align with the Zeigfrieds. But again, we're not all sell outs. There are more than a few guards who are truly dedicated to helping the city, even if opinions on how to do that vary." OoC: We will move along tomorrow morning to the next phase. I'll be on vacation this weekend, so updates may be slow.
  17. "They call themselves heroes. That's different enough, ain't it? Some of them actually try to be, too. Me, I've always said heroes don't live too long, but maybe I'm wrong." Everyman chuckles. "You trying to be a hero too, amigo? Or just easiest group of sellswords to align yourself with in the city?" "Yes, well having me around evens him out a little, usually. And having a job to do. Like I said, he's really dedicated to preserving the peace - sometimes he's so dedicated to it he forgets who he hates." Bert chuckles dryly. "I apologize. I didn't mean to drag any skeletons in the closet out. I was only excited and intrigued to meet someone else who had been. A dwarf who has been to the Darklands and who speaks Orcish... you must know you are a rare breed." Solimon pauses. "I hope you did not have any trouble with mutants while you were in the Darklands, but I wouldn't be surprised if you did. My people can appear as brutes, though they aren't, truly." "Oh sure, there's all of that. But you're still going to get a hodgepodge. First off, this is Eubric, there's no way to not get a diverse crowd if you have a group over... well, there's nine of us right now. Dwarf, gnome, five humans, orc, whatever the winged fellow is. See what I mean?" "On top of that, the Watch isn't the best pay. It draws some folks who have no other way to get by, some folks who want to abuse the limited power it grants, and then some folks actually dedicated to good. But you have to remember our wages are paid by the houses, and there's so much infighting there and every guard has their own loyalties, so... more divisions." "I don't understand," says Parvati quietly. "I was under the impression that cities were more civilized. But the more that I see of Eubric, the more I become convinced that they are less civilized, just better at hiding it. The wandering tribes kill each other if they have a dispute. It seems the same way in Eubric, except that you're better at it, which is worse."
  18. "What do you mean?" rasps a dead voice from behind the mask. "I'm a hero, you dig? Gotta hero it up." He gives a thumbs up, and scuttles out of the shadows hesitantly. "You mind if I sit here, sis? Been chilling out at home for some time, gotta get back into the groove, know what I mean? What's the haps?" The voice and eyes behind the mask border on expressionless.
  19. "We have a good a good idea of where they may be hiding out. If you'd be willing to follow us? As we said, we haven't had a specific reason to raid them up until now..." "You can be straight with them, Bert. Most of the Watch isn't willing to come into the Hovels. Too dangerous. We used to have a real ol' tough bastard by the name Bennetton who kept an eye on things, wasn't afraid of nothing, but then he got involved with Heroica and ate it. Constable Gnash too. He was a friend of mine." Andrew's shoulder slump. "Point is, now most guards say 'let 'em rot'. Or they've been promoted too high to be doing rounds." "As for the gang, it's like I said, amigo. Real bad apples. Lots of side businesses, and they're called Native Sons for a reason. Don't take kindly to strangers in Eubric. You and me will be okay, but Parvati and Solimon are going to get a long hard stare." "A true hero, aren't you?" "You mean do they have any cool duds you can swipe?" chuckles Everyman. "They're a gang. Wear rough and tough cloths, and yeah, armed to the teeth. A few stupid ones, a few smart ones. You know how it goes." "No, just sellswords," grumbles Andrew. "Follow me. We can discuss strategy outside their hide out." "If you don't mind, I'd like to come with. Ain't gonna lie and say I'm any good in a fight, but I owe it to Zane to see this through to the end." The heroes once more set out following the guards. As they fall into small conversations among themselves. Solimon walks alongside Throlar. "Forgive me for being intrusive, Throlar, but I couldn't help notice a twinkle in your eye upon my mentioning my home of Babeleth. Am I right in believing that you are familiar with the place? There are not many in Eubric who would be, beyond a few undead, and they hail from a very different part of the Darklands than myself." Johnny Everyman swaggers up besides Cedric, burping again. "Howdy there, stranger. Names Johnny Everyman, 'case you didn't gather that. You know here? Gotta be. I know almost everyone in the high and low points of the city. What brought you around to being a hero?" Bert, meanwhile, fell into step alongside Matthias, Darkstan and Parvati. "I'm sorry about Andrew. He's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder as far as heroes go, and your elf friend's actions last year did nothing to help it. He's dedicated to the job, though, and he's right about us being some of the only members of the Watch who'll come to the Hovels. And he's in a foul mood about Donald too. We all know he's a bad egg, but this is particularly bad, assaulting you the way he did. He'll probably have to be dispatched."
  20. Parvati quickly returns the 40 gold to Matthias. "I grew up without any gold," she says quietly. "I do not need it now. There is nothing that I could want that Zane would not provide." She takes the Opal, however, the nestles it into her turban along with her other gems. "We should be able to get back swiftly, yes. Cedric or Darkstan and I can support Everyman between us. Let us move." Parvati holds up her stumps apologetically as Darkstan offers her the crossbow. "I think that would do best in your hands, not mine," she says. Rummaging around, Darkstan realizes that most of the patrons are alive and likely to regain consciousness shortly... and it is probably best to beat a quick retreat. The heroes step outside the bar and are confronted by exactly what Matthias feared: a troop of four city watch. Among them is Bert, who smiles at the heroes, and someone Matthias recognizes as Andrew, who scowls. "Should have known," he grumbles. "If it's a bar fight, there's gotta be heroes involved. You, gnome, you were with that elf that stabbed me. You want to follow in her footsteps? I hear Serevan made her regret it." "Shouldn't we let them have their say first, Andrew?" "Ah, the Watch. That's good. We were the assaulted, not the assaulters. If you'd step inside, you'd see one of your own number. I think you will be able to detect more than enough booze on his breath. I hope he wasn't on the job." Bert and Andrew share a glance, and Andrew pokes his head inside. He shakes his head in disappointment. "Donald." He turns to the two remaining guards with him. "Take him home and clean him up, and tell him I'll be chewing the sh*t out of him tomorrow, if he's still alive then." Turning the heroes: "This is the afternoon patrons. You'd be smart not to be here when the evening patrons show up. Think they'll have a bone to pick with you." "If you have somewhere safe to go, now would be the time. We will accompany you." "Make sure you stay out of trouble." Bert and Andrew join the party as they make their way back to the Clubhouse. Once inside, Solimon deposits Everyman on a chair. "You said you had information on my sister?" asks Parvati. "Sure do," says Everyman as he recomposes himself. "Zane asked me to keep an eye on all y'all while he was out and about. Figured I owed him, saving my life when Wren was around and then getting me a job. Always been good to me, him and XX, so I didn't mind it. Anyways, Medusa took to hanging around the Rat's Behind, which you probably know now ain't the nicest of places." Johnny burps. "So I took to watching her. Ran her mouth a lot, always looking to fight the patrons, and they ain't so keen on green-red-skins to begin with. So, anyway, she disappears a few days back, figured I'd poke around. Right before you folks came in the bar owner starts telling 'bout how this street gang nabbed her after hours one night. They're regulars at the bar. I was about to skitter off and tell you all about it when you came busting in the door." "Which gang?" "Call themselves the Native Sons. Bad crew." "We know them. Been wanting to raid them for a while. Haven't had a reason to until now. Who's this who has gone missing?" "My sister, Medusa." "And they nabbed her? Sounds to me like they're stirring up trouble with the folks living in my city. Generally that means I'm going to do something about it." Andrew looks expectantly at the heroes.
