  1. "Settle down," glowers the Blackgull gruffly as Althior accuses him. "I told everyone to take a seat. The Watch and Paladin Order are here because if we want to protect this island we will need everyone's expertise. There is no point in turning anyone away." "It's fine seeing you as well, Annienal. I think I'd better begin, before all Hel breaks loose." Clearing his throat, the Blackgull paces to the window. He does not stare out of it forlornly but rather spins to address the gathered party. "Eubric is changing, and Uland is changing with it. For years the Bonapartes have been protectors of the waters around the Freeport, but the Sungold Alliance must be more than that. It must lead the way for the city, and most protect all of its people. I have proposed that we teach the people some discipline and give them an education, and that is the direction that the Alliance has gone in." He nods curtly to the three members of the party with Sungold Insignias, either unaware or unconcerned of where their actual votes landed. "At first I thought we'd send them out on ships, give them a bit of back bone, but things aren't working out as planned. Seems that before we clean up the seas we owe it to ourselves and our neighbors to clean up Uland itself. If lumber can't make it to the Freeport, there isn't much of anything else that can be done. Trade should be easy on such a small island, but with this many bandits, it is hard. We'll change that." "For that reason we're repurposing the timber we'll be collecting and constructing a new Fort just outside Eubric. This fort will serve as a training ground for future members of the Watch, Paladin Order, and the Bonaparte Fleet. It will be dedicated to protecting Eubric, but also to protecting the roads running between us and our neighbors. It will have it's own fleet to defend merchant vessels, and will come with housing for everyone who is training there. It will be staffed by my top men, as well as the best the Watch and the Paladin Order has to offer. It will be Sungold Fort, it will be manned by those in the Hovels, and it will be dedicated to the protection of all of those on Uland." "But first, we need to lumber for it. That is where you will come in."
  2. "Yes, we've been having some trouble on the route. It appears that Uland has no end of ruffians who are willing to assault the way of the Light for their own personal gain. But I'm sure you heroes will be able to show them the grave mistake they are making." Andrew's face brightens, but only for a moment before he relaxes back into his permanent scowl. "Yes, one of my better interactions with the heroes of Heroica. You were welcome aid that day. Perhaps we won't have to suffer through fools here after all." "Nice to meet you as well." With a icy smile Yu Shu slinks forward towards Heckz. "If you're wiling to speak that way to a Warrior Priestess I'm afraid you don't know the Paladin Order as well as you thought." Her voice is calm and dangerous. "Maybe I'll have a moment to demonstrate how I became the head of my order to you." "Good, so we've both got problems working with each other," snarls Andrew as he stands up. Pivoting towards Lane he barks orders. "Get my things. I thought this was a meeting about order, not Hel-raising shoot-em-up mercenaries with faux-hearts-of-gold." "So many enemies of the Light. And now you've gone and angered the Watchman. I guess I'll have to show both you and blondie over here that the Paladins are serious about bringing the city into line." Before anyone can respond a sharp voice rings out. "What is this? Threats and disagreements?" Obero "Blackgull" Bonaparte strides into the room. "Not in my Fort. Everyone sit down and listen up. We're all here to accomplish the same thing."
  3. I think we're currently just trying to make sure there are enough quests for everyone! But if other people start to step up and host quests we would be able to turn our sights elsewhere possibly!
  4. "Wouldn't hurt if you want to get where we're going fast." With Annienal's assistance the boat speeds up, and the magic knight feels inspired by helping the Captain "It's true. It's better to teach people to fish than to give them fish. I know you think the houses would help, but it wouldn't break any sort of cycle. They can have as good of houses as they want but without anyway to step up in society they'd be without food... how are they going to pay each other for houses if they're all building houses for each other. Wouldn't work." "There were scuffles before the proposal too." The heroes land at Fort Bonaparte. There are a few houses wedged around the main walled fortress, but Lane ignores them and leads the heroes right into the heart of the island. They climb a series of stairs and emerge in a room with an enormous window overlooking the Crystaline Sea. In it are a were-lion and a member of the city guard. "Delegates from our new partners," says Captain Lane. "Not partners," grunts the guard. "Patricia was explicit that we weren't taking sides in this." "Yet here you are," notes the were-lion with a wry smile. "As if sending a proxy were any better than simply coming herself." "I'm not a proxy. The guard could always use more men and women, and we're more than interested in any solution to clean up the Hovels." "And the Paladins are much the same. We're just willing to be open about it." The were-lion finally turns to the heroes. "My name is Yu Shu. I am one of the Warrior Priestesses of the Paladin Order here in Eubric. And this is Andrew of the City Watch. You're here to help Blackgull with our project?"
  5. Weekends are going to be a little tough for me for the next few weeks (including this one). Quests should still update daily on weekdays though! Sorry everyone!
  6. "It's not profit," grunts Lane as he rows the boat forward. "Who the Hel do you think will be paying for the influx of students at the Academy? Any gold saved is being turned right around. It isn't just the Bonapartes either. We said they had to serve, not that they had to serve with us."

The heroes rush to him and board quickly and he casts away the ropes and sets sail. A few stray bottles plop into the water alongside them but soon they are out of range and sailing towards Fort Bonaparte. "So you can clearly see there's been some pushback to the idea," grumbles Lane. "I'm not always on board with what the Bonapartes are always all about, but I can't say I see what the people of the Hovels are complaining about as far as this goes. Nothing wrong with teaching them a little discipline, especially if they're getting an education along with it. 'Course they think we've really screwed them by asking them to serve first... think the Crescent Union or even the Wolfgang might help them more. What they don't realize is that the Crescent Union doesn't have the funds to pay for their education, so they're sending them out to Xu. We'll see how many people want to do that. As for the Wolfgang, rumblings are that they're looking to do away with the wall. It's a nice big gesture but the people of the Hovels were poor before the Wall, and they'll be poor still if it comes down." Lane shakes his head sadly. "Besides, serving on ships ain't as bad as everyone makes it out to be."

  15. "Good to meet you, Siercon. Sure the Bonapartes are looking forward to working with you too." Captain Lane grins. "Think the higher ups are trying to sure up the ranks. Just this morning I ferried over a member of the Town Watch as well as some Were-Lion Warrior Priest." "Nice to meet you as well." "You act like I had a say in the matter. Whatever old Blackgull decides is his business. He must have a reason though. Maybe it's a nod to the Zeigfrieds, putting a magic user in charge, or maybe he's hoping to court the Paladins... couldn't rightly say. All I know is that he's try to sure up the ranks." "They got the swift hand of justice, that's certain. More than a fair chance we'll be sailing over their remains today." Lane casts his eyes out over the choppy waves. "Well, that's everyone, isn't it? Best be off." Lane leads the heroes through riff raft down to a pier with a small boat tethered to the end. He begins to walk towards it when a harsh voice calls out to him. OoC: Reusing a photo, will fix it tomorrow, I missed the sun today. "Hey! Bonaparte!" With sagging shoulders Lane turns his head. A number of dockhands have begun to gather around the party. "What can I do you for?" "Hear Blackgull expects us to serve on his ships?" The crowd growls at the suggestion. "Fat lot of good your doing us! Taking us away from our friends and family. Course the Hinckwells wanted to give us houses. And the Union is sending us all to school free of charge. But the Bonapartes... always the Bonapartes. You ever even heard of freedom?" "The Union isn't sending you to school," fires back Lane. A stray bottle soars through the air and smashes on his forehead and the good Captain stumbles backwards and falls into the surf. The dockworkers advance on the heroes! Prepare for battle! 21. The members of the Sungold Alliance watch as a number of heroes join their organization with the express intent of swaying the vote one way or another. All through the night the Heinrich sits with a smug look on his face, until two new strangers burst in and sway the vote in the opposite direction... "The last one was after the deadline!" protests Heinrich. "We would have needed to extend it to break the tie regardless," huffs Blackgull. "Besides, it is the option that our future King wanted. We will go with my proposal." "Regardless of the outcome, you must admit that it is nice to see the heroes have taken a genuine interest in our city." She returns to her husbands side with a knowing smile. "We will need their enthusiasm moving forward." "That is true. Go gather what you need for your proposal, Blackgull. The rest of us will discuss further matters..." Blackgull leaves the Villa swiftly as the Hinckwells and Zeigfrieds put their heads together concerning further propositions... All members of the Sungold Alliance may add a Sungold Seal to their Inventory. It may be equipped at any time, and does not use up an items spot. It will continue to be enhanced as other propositions are voted on. Sungold Seal (+3 Power, +2 Health)
  22. That was only for the King Maker event! We will definitely use the standing again, but not for this event!
  23. Boomingham watches as the man who made him King places his vote. He huffs a little, his mind wandering away from his original opinion before he draws it back in. He casts his vote for Conscription. Vote Tally: Option 1: 3 (Cedric, Jinnipher, Lawrence) Option 2: 4 (Nerwen, Matthias, Eric, Althior) Voting Closes in 5 days!!
  24. "I wish to see the city prosper," says Boomingham jovially. "These are my people, if they accept me. I've led men once, and I'd be glad to do it again, and I can promise you that I do not take the duty lightly. When I last led a mistake meant someone I knew and who trusted me could lose their life, so I made sure that never happened, not even once." "You act like we don't already have armed fellows in the streets." Boomingham winks. "It's the same thing I'm telling the... gnome? Druid. Matthias. I've seen people serve before. They don't just run amok, assuming the leaders are good enough to teach that what duty actually means. I think most people in this city would be happy to help defend it."
  25. "Whoever shows that they are the strongest," replies Boomingham with a wolfish grin. "Hm, well depends on what you mean about that, chap. Wasn't born here any more than some others, but don't know if that's a requirement for rule here. I'm fairly sure my opponents both come from across the sea as well. But I do have the cities best interest at heart. My own home is no more, so this is the closest that I have, and I do not intend to lose another home." "Arming them to serve, not letting them run wild in the streets."
