Round Two Priest of Ennoc Battle Tesni v. Priest C - Hit (0) Cronk v. Priest A - Shield Alexis v. Priest C - Critical Hit (0) (-1 ether Alexis) Alexis v. Priest D - Critical Hit ([([10x2]+21)x2]x2=164) (-1 ether Alexis) Arthur - Uses Nostrum Haldor v. Priest D - Special Damage II (+75 health Priest) (-1 ether Priest) Passive Special - (-5 ether, Cronk) Tesni swipes at one of the Priests, but her blade passes through it with such ease that she knows it cannot be real. It cackles and shoves her back. Cronk prays to Ennoc, who, perhaps embarrassed by the abomination that they now fight, sends an angel their way. Alexis fires off two attacks, one of which hits the real Priest who stumbles back hissing in pain. As Arthur downs a Nostrum, the priest is illuminated by holy light, and three more priests step forward. The heroes are suddenly outnumbered. Mage is probably the most powerful class right now, perhaps along with rogues, so I think a nerf wouldn't be as bad as you think, Flipz. -Mages can fight from the back row and deal full damage (and often times still double damage). -Mages can use scrolls, which supplements in many ways those special abilities that weapons have. -Mages can STILL use weapons with special abilities, they just lose the ability to fight in the back row if they choose to do so.

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Atramor, do me a favor and heal yourself up, would you? Rufindel, I'm sorry if you're the bashing type because you aren't seeing much of that this battle, but if you could patch the Ogre up for me, I'd appreciate it. Nyx, Ellaria, Ogre, let's finish these monkeys." Boomingham laughs viciously as he dances towards Scim with his King of the Desert from the front row. Battle Order Boomingham Nyx Rufindel Ellaria Atramor Skrall -
You most certainly should! I (and many others) have been doing it wrong for nearly a year now. That actually levels the playing field significantly, and I like that rule a lot, I just didn't know it existed!
-
I've always assumed that weapons with effects use their effect even with spells. That's why we channel spells through specific weapons.
-
Excellent use of Ella, Rumble Strike! You stuck to her character, and used her well!

Heroica! RPG* I like the excitement that stems from the exclamation point. I really hope we keep it.
-
I like the exclamation mark for the sub-forum. Makes it so much more exciting.

I should be at way less health. AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Boomingham backs up and coughs as the wind is once more knocked out of him. He nods at Rufindel's request to act near the end. "Anything for you, dear," he laughs. "You lot seem to have it this round, I'll go ahead and heal myself up from the back row." Battle Order Skrall Atramor Ellaria Nyx Boomingham Rufindel -
Hell yeah they do! I actually thought up this battle before Death Progg, but then edited it significantly after he was revealed.
-
I'm sorry, but Boomingham has never fought another human. That's outrageous. Also, haven't you ever noticed how humans in the real world never ever fight? We only fight other species. Like deer. Damn deer.

Casey, you BAWK! outline a case that I find much more convincing than the one against Carly. Carly seems to be confused and quiet, but with no sinister motives. If they exist, they are too subtle for me to pick up. She is quiet, but her few comments are only confusing, they don't seem to be gaining her anything. Ralphy on the other hand DOES seem to BAWK! be getting at something while still hanging back in the background. He's quiet, and doesn't draw much attention, but still gently nudges for specific things. I feel more comfortable in this vote than in the one for Carly. Vote: Ralphy Rabbit (badboytje88). It doesn't do much BAWK! today, but it will get people to focus on our suspect tomorrow.

The Gray Wizard opens his mouth to speak, but before he can answer any of the questions addressed to him, his eyes narrow and he points with his staff. "It looks like we have something to deal with first, heroes. It is about time I got back to doing my duty." "You sssssssshall not passssssssss, tresssssspasssssssersssss." McColt bears his teeth and grunts, and for the first time the heroes notice he did not bring a sword into the valley, and can therefore not fight. He instead goes to the Gray Wizard, who is clearly in no condition to fight, and needs support still from time to time. Cronk plucks the flower out of the ground and the heroes are once more thrown through space and time. -------------------------------------------------------------- "We know this to be true." "But listen. Just listen. If everyone thought only about each other and not themselves, people would be worse off. Think about it, Triad. You know best what you want best, but the wants of others are shrouded in mystery. The chances of you knowing someone else exactly what they want is low, but the chance of you giving yourself exactly what you want is high. If we all only concern ourselves with our own wants, we're all serving the person we can serve best. Ourselves." "We disagree with this." "But why?" "Because we do not know what you say to be true. We know that you must serve others." "But if everyone serves themselves, it will be the same thing, but more efficient." "...Eubric is corrupt because of it." "No, Eubric flourishes because of it. It's your own family in charge!" "Yes, and only one person should have power. Six families can not rule together. It doesn't make sense. It leaves too much room for corruption and evil. It leaves too much room for chaos." "You can't eradicate chaos. You can either let it help things to grow, or let it allow things to wither." "Very poetic, Sasha." "Don't you be angry with me." "I'm not. You're angry with me." "And for good cause, Roderick. You should never have left behind the Gray Wizard." "You were unconscious, darling. He was dying. It was either seal him or watch him die. Besides, Wren did it, not me." "You walk a dangerous path, Roderick. Be careful, my friend. It is often hard to distinguish the goodness from evil. My lands are cold and hard, and my people are rough and cold, but we value the warmth in our hearts and preserve it at any cost. Roderick, you once held me dear. If there is anything that troubles you, anything weighing on your mind, you know you may-" "BE AWARE! We have trouble!" The entire party turns to face the deathly old creature. "You are trespasssssssing on sssssssacred landsssss, Orcss." The creature fires a bolt of light that spreads out towards all the heroes. Wren holds up her hand and the light converges on her as her body absorbs the blast. She is thrown back and blood trickles out of a gash on her forehead. The other heroes spring into action, hacking and fighting the ancient enemy. The battle is a blur, the enemy appearing to be at numerous places at one. Finally, all the heroes lay with blood pooling except the heavily armored Sir Roderick. He yields, and faces the monster. "Monster of light, hear me! What will it cost us to cross your sacred grounds?" "A sssssssacrifice to the Lord of Peace. Ennoc." "A body?" "Yessssssssss." Roderick turns around. For a moment, he eyes Wren with a cruel cold look in his eyes. He however shifts his gaze and points his sword at Sasha the Barbarian. "Her." ------------------------------------------ The heroes are flung unceremoniously back into their own time period. They all are sweating, yet feel cold. The Gray Wizard's eyes have grown even heavier.

BAWK! I know my lust for your flesh has driven this parrot crazy. What are you doing later? As for the vote against Carly... I don't know if I can see it. A huge scum tell, in my books, is how hard he animal fights for their life. Carly has really given up. Scum would never do that... though neither would a dedicated town member. I think that places Carly in the category of inattentive town member, which is what she claims she was. I find the actions of BAWK!ka Bulldog. She acts as if we learned something by lynching Petey, but also acts as if we didn't really. She continues the trend that Petey accused of her yesterday - rehashing events without adding anything to what she's recapping. On top of that, she swung the vote towards Petey yesterday, while still making it seem like she thought Casey and Pennie were "more scummy". This could just be town logic, or this could be a masterful ploy by a masterful cultist. Killing a townie and "clearing" the names of a fellow cultist, be it either Pennie or Casey, while still seeming to not find the townie cultistish. Any thoughts. I feel I need to throw out something, Carly's attitude actually strikes me as decidedly not culty, but I can't simply say "don't vote". Now I've got to dash! Mail to be delivered! BAWK!

"I knew something about Roderick and Wren. Once while on a mission with the two of them in thee sewers of Eubric, the three of us stumbled upon the entrance to an ancient temple. The two of them went inside while I investigated runes on the outside. I found it was a temple of Zoot. When they emerged, they said there were only broken statues inside. But I never trusted them after that. I watched their descent... I had concerns. I was right." "We entered the valley, came here, and fought the Knight. That is as far as I made it, clearly." Arthur looks around for McColt, and finds him standing next to him! Arthur finds nothing. "Only thing to do is keep moving. Look sharp, heroes." McColt leads the party deeper into the valley. Soon they stumble upon a broken wall. Any bodies, Orc or otherwise, are around, though it is clear that this wall had been breached back in the Orcish Invasion. "Look there." "Ready for another memory, heroes?" Will anyone pick the flower?

BAWK! Thank the gods for that bear-trap... thingy... good work whoever set that up! Alright, so, all you people who promised that after a night we'd most certainly have some clue where to go, let's hear that clue! If you want to send it to everyone in the town by mail, that might be cool. If you need a parrot to deliver the mail, I can do that!

I'll try to address all the questions! Not a question, but I'm glad you enjoyed the battle. One of my three goals with this quest was to create interesting and unique battles without changing the mechanics of the game nearly at all. Id and Ego are what Hybros said they were. Sig is Sigmund Freud, Gotti is short for Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and Uma is taken from Uma Thurman, who for whatever reason flew into my head while I was making the quest. All the battles had to do with why Guffington wanted to stay in the alternate reality. I was originally going to explain all the battles here, but I think it's more fun if I don't. The fourth battle was also supposed to be more challenging... though with a Raider and Assassin, it turned out not to be. Rogue Level 17 Health: 657/657 Special: Mug – Deals 28 damage to the hero and takes gold from them equal to their level times 2. Drops: Glass Dagger Ranger Level 27 Health: 930/930 Special: Triple Shot – Hits all the heroes for 29 damage, regardless of row. Drops: Quiver of Poisoning Knight Level 19 Health: 520/520 SP: 4 Special: Sentinel – Protects all allies from damage the following round. Drops: Frozen Sabre Mage Level 28 Health: 1016/1016 Ether: 4/4 Special I: Magic Burst – Stuns all heroes in the same row as the hero targeting the Mage, and deals 30 damage of darkness energy to all heroes. Uses one ether. Special II: Meditate – Regains two ether. Used if no ether is left. Drops: Scroll of Blindness Cleric Level 26 Health: 878/878 Ether: 4/4 Special I: Miracle – Heals all his allies for 100 health. Special II: Meditate – Regains two ether. Used if no ether is left. Drops: Healing Staff Barbarian Level 28 Health: 864/864 Special: Frenzy - Drops: Twin Axe - WP: 5, damages two enemies in one hit, suitable for barbarians This was the intended ending. One of the characters was supposed to dance for Guffington. If you didn't, and didn't think of anything else super creative, the quest would have been failed, just as if you had failed a battle. I will address your first critique under BD's comment. I realized about half way through the final battle that the ending would feel rushed. I feel this is the first quest to end with a "puzzle" instead of a "boss battle". The reasoning behind this was that story-wise there was no logical purpose for a boss battle. There was no "boss" enemy in Guffington's alternate consciousness. I can see why that made it seem anti-climactic though. I also intended that final battle to be tougher... One of the other intents I had while designing this quest was poking fun at my own style of heavy rail-roading. This quest was literally 100% rail-roaded. Face challenge, beat challenge, divide loot, next challenge. It was supposed to be a bit of an "in-joke".

That I do. I sometimes get those numbers confused because I didn't play in I, so III was my second. -
Heroica RPG - Quest #39: The Great Guffington
Zepher replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: I would have also accepted anyone kissing anyone else. Guffington looks sternly as Guts begins to dance, the shoes guiding his movement. Slowly his face cracks into a smile, and soon he is laughing. "Very well, heroes. Let's go home." The heroes feel a yank and a tug. Their head jerk upwards and their stomach fall out from under them and the fog gives way to darkness that suddenly becomes a blurry image of a room. They all sit up and fumble towards the front of the room. There they are greeted by three familiar faces. "Thank you for convincing Guffington to come back to us," intones U'Ordiussum. "We were very lost without him we were very lost." "You have done the world a great good," Daneeka tells the heroes. "Many people will be thankful. Also note, you have been gone for nearly a month. We fed you and watered you. I do not know how time passed in the alternate reality. I assume it did not pass the same way." Guffington simply nods to the heroes. "You were promised 250 gold each for saving me, and that will be granted to you. Likewise, you have shown me something worth it in the world, so I will share something worth it with you." Guffington hands all three heroes a Mythril Shard. "I hope you will visit me at the Manor some time, heroes. You'd be more than welcome." The Party Guts Holla, Level 20 Raider *Party Leader* Power: 34(28) Health: 33/33 Gold: 2763 Inventory: Lifestealer (WP:14, Ice, attacks restore 3 health), Throwing Knife (WP: 9 Light, Retrievable), Glass Dagger (WP: 6, Hollow), Dancing Shoes (The wearer is capable of dancing well. As they left, they were shocked to realize that all of the things they had acquired in the alternate reality had remained with them. Perhaps they too had things left to wonder at. THE QUEST WAS A SUCCESS!
