  1. It will be interesting to see what the heroes think of the Bonapartes, who are probably the most lawful of the houses. It's be cool. I think 48 is nice and well paced because it has "chapters" with each of the Progg Princes. I've enjoyed reading it so far. But yes, after these it shall be fun to have some shorter quests. The next few I host will be kind of small in comparison.
  2. Oooo! While I really want to go on a Zeigfried quest (when is the next one of those) Bonapartes would indeed be fun, and it has been far too long since I've been hosted by you. I'd certainly be game! EDIT: 54 is wrapping up, probably today or tomorrow. Maybe we could get Eric to come along too! That would be knocking out a ton of people I want to quest with, and would be a really fun party.

  18. I run all my items by Sandy before my quests begin, which is why they are nearly never nerfed (they get nerfed before hand ). And all negative effects, including sealed, will only last one round.

"...and further more, people have been reporting that the heroes have been walking around with members of the Court of Demons." Patricia just shakes her head. "Bennetton trusts them. I don't have time for this, if they are working with him, then that's that. I have a city to clean up. Reports of forgery are everywhere, and the riots in the Hovels grow more likely every day." "A small task force is all I think we need. We could go to the Barracks and shut them down. Bennetton and Gnash are no longer there. There is word that they were taken by the Court. We must at least follow the heroes to save him." "He knew the danger when he took that assignment on. There will be no rescue party for that-" Patricia chews on her lower lip... "At the very least, let us go stop these heroes. They've been fighting all over the city, reports of disturbances are streaming in from the Gardens, Apothecary, there was some massacre in the Observatory-" "Leave the heroes alone. They and I have had our differences in the past, but until we know they are doing harm, let us assume Bennetton's right and they are doing good. Now, stop bothering me. I have a lot to think on." The man leaves and Patricia begins to shuffle through the papers on her desk. "Gods, protect this city and whoever is protecting it with me, whoever the Hel they may be." [iNTERLUDE - CONCLUDED] The heroes destined for the sewers set out quickly. They enter the sewers through a manhole near the Barracks, and descend into darkness. Vipera calls out directions in their minds, and while they walk together for a short while, they soon separate. Nyx bids her fellow heroes good luck, and goes down her own path... (expect a PM soon). The others soon don't need the Dragon's directions. Ahead of them they can hear the growling of the beasts, the low guttural call. Soon they see them marching through the waist high water ahead of them, four of the dark monsters. The Beasts turn, and, as is custom, attack the heroes without a word. They arrive at the edge of a valley like area of the crypts. Below them is the Court of Demons. Mephisto and the Magician stand in front of a few novices, preparing to execute a number of prisoners. Prisoners the heroes recognize. "THESE PEOPLE THOUGHT THEY COULD STAND IN THE WAY OF CHAOS. THEY ARE JUST AS WRONG AS THE LADY WREN. NOTHING STANDS IN THE WAY OF CHAOS. NOTHING CAN CONTROL CHAOS. CHAOS SEEPS INTO YOUR HEARTS LIKE THE ICE DOES YOUR BONES. THEY WILL DIE FOR THEIR FOLLY." The heroes try to step forward, but find themselves unable. Zane grins at them roguishly. "The Magician knew you were coming. She's locked you out." The heroes can see it's true. Below her mask, the magician's lips are moving rapidly. She is chanting a spell. Every once in a while she'll glance up near the heroes, but if she sees them at the edge of the pit, she says nothing to her allies. The field may just be a precautionary measure... "WHO WILL DIE FIRST?" Mephisto asks, wheeling at the prisoners. McColt begins to step forward, but Bennetton beats him to it. He clamors onto the platform and a noose is attached around his neck. "I have but one-" he begins, but a poof of purple smoke stops him, and suddenly inside the force field stands Wren, Sphinx, and Zee, the last of whom looks weak. "HOW DID YOU BYPASS OUT SHIELD?!" bellows Mephisto. "This is getting good now," says Zane. "I think I see what's going to happen here. It's like I said, once you know what everyone wants, these games are easy. I think I know how my debts to the Magician and you are going to be paid too... but she's not going to like it. I don't know if she sees it coming." He glances at Zander and then at Wren. "I've come for an exchange," says Wren. "Zee for the location to the entrance of the temple. She won't tell me." "AND YOU THINK I SHALL?! FOOLISH WOMAN." "I think you will. You need Zee if you wish to fight me. She works for me now, but I shall release her if you give me the location of the temple." Zee's eyes glow... a look Atramor recognizes. She is hexed. "FOOLISH WOMAN. FOOLISH MORTAL." "You are mortal too, Mephisto. At the very least your body here is. Do not forget that even though a splinter of a demon is inside you, it can be killed. When the body dies, so will you. The real Mephisto is elsewhere. You are a perversion of him. I will fight you if I must. I've seen Gods in men die before. And you have other enemies to fight." Wren directs her eyes at the captured heroes. Mephisto keeps his eyes on her. Her statement gives the mortal demon pause. Only Cronk follow's Wren's gaze, and is shocked to find Bennetton's eyes locked on him. Bennetton's one free hand moves quickly, reaching for the hidden knife that he showed Cronk earlier. The Court must have not found it. It is out in a flash and he lets it fly. It lands with a thud in the Magicains back. She falls. The force field falls. Wren and Mephisto glance at the body in shock. A magical blast flies out from the body and everyone fights to keep their balance. All hell breaks loose. "You monster!" wails Mephisto in a way an true archdemon never would. His weapon flies quickly and truly-- --and Bennetton's life is over. Zee, only one of her eyes glowing, the other one dead and soulless, slams her shield into Sphinx's face. Blood squirts from a broken nose and he falls, crying in pain. Mephisto and Zee advance on Wren, but the heroes are distracted by the sound of electricity behind them. They spin to see Zander shooting a bolt at Cronk. The heroes are blinded. "Die you BASTARD!!" he screams gleefully, but the bolt sizzles out as quickly as it begins, and as eyes readjust, Zander lies, blood dripping from his mouth, his face frozen in permanent joy. A throwing knife is in his stomach. Zane stands behind the heroes playing with a similar blade in his left hand. "That's my debt to Heroica for leaving me alive," he tells them. Below, Wren does her best to defend herself-- But everyone's attention is drawn when Zane kicks Zander's body down the edge of the pit. His body crashes into the ground, Mephisto howls in anger, and Zane drops down after him and dashes for the Magician. The heroes are now seen, and all hop over the edge of their earthen platform and into the pit. Mephisto growls at them, but Wren just laughs. "It's about time you showed up. Sphinx, on your feet, we're out of here. Mephisto, if you want Zee left here, you know the-- ah, thank you." In another flash, Sphinx and Wren are gone. "I don't want to go yet, Zane. This wasn't the plan." "Come on, time for me to pay my debt to you." "I was hoping-- you'd pay it much later-- in my life-- leave my body. If it survives... maybe it can come back to me..." "Alright, but it ain't looking too good." The Magician stares at the air above her. "I won't be coming to chat with you yet," she says to an invisible force, and then Zane lays his hands on her stomach, inhales deeply, and then stands up. The Magician's body rises too, but her eyes are now deader than Zee's sockets. "Shall I stay and kill them, Mephisto?" "No. Leave now. I paid dearly for your life, Zee. You must finish our work if I do not survive. SEE THAT WREN DIES, AND SEE SHE DOES HER WORK FIRST. FOOLISH WOMAN."
