Wren is lucky, not the heroes. They take the worse roll, not the better.

Eurobricks Mafia II: Mafia School: Day Two
Zepher replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
His scum team would also be pressuring him. I can't say I love his attitude, but in my experience scum rarely resigns to their fate, and never do in an angry manner, instead going the "I guess if nothing else, it's best for the town" route, hoping to garner sympathy. This does seem like a pissy ploy of a townie. A townie who has a really stinky attitude, but still a townie... which puts me at a bit of a lose too. The flailing is scummy, the giving up is not, and other than the slight pings (Pirate Dave WAS also a bit flaily when I accused him), I've got nothing really to go on. I'm going to give it a bit more time before I vote for Scouty. We've told you how it may be achieved. We've all asked you to analyze other players a number of times, and you yourself said you'd do it. You said a vague thing about Boy Wonder. We're trying to feed you a way to help yourself and help us, but you refuse continuously. I'm with Lil' Hinckster, whatever side you're on, please don't just clamp up. It's no fun for anyone, and is rather against the spirit of the classroom.- 175 replies

I'm more a Coen Brothers fan than Whedon. Watch some of their films. They're master of the happenstance.
-
I do also mostly follow cause and effect in my quests, though a bit of chaos... (see what I did there) makes them more exciting and unpredictable for me and the players. It's not actually cheating cause and effect, just giving them different results than they may have expected. FOR EXAMPLE (and I sent this to you in a PM): If this were a Zepher quest, here's what would have happened. Same opening up until when the heroes found NEMO on the ship... who would in fact be RENO pretending to be NEMO, pretending that RENO had taken his place (when in actuality, the man at the fort claiming to be Nemo would be, in fact, the real Nemo). Reno would have set himself up to be kidnapped, and set up a quest-request for his rescue before leaving. Hints would be dropped along the way in Reno's philosophical statements that he was in fact Reno and not Nemo. At the end, the heroes would have to pick who to kill still. Just one extra crazy twist that may have made their choice different than what they expected, but still cause and effect. How much sadder would it be when Hestia realized she failed to revive her own husband. Anyway, that's Zepher's crazy mind. Your's is probably more fun to play. And, again, just to clarify, I don't think a twist needs to be thrown into every quest to make it interesting. I just think that twist would have been awesome.
-
I like political drama stories too! I just haven't tried my hand at one yet. I don't have the time to set up a big political story, so I leave that to Sandy, sit back, and admire. If there were less of them, or they impressed me less, I'd offer them, but I can offer something else to the game that aren't offered, so as to make the quest options more rounded.
-
I'm not arguing against your story at all, Sandy. I know you allow for choice, and that your story is very cause-and-effect (something I used to be obsessed with, but have broken away from). I love it. I'm just saying my personal taste in story writing, not suggesting what should happen in the over-all story itself. I think everyone would be pissed if I ran things my way, and rightly so- I don't know if non-cause-and-effect would wok well for a RPG. Just would intrigue me.
-
All of my hostile NPCs who survived this quest were spared. XX and Zane both could have been killed off. You didn't. And yes, I know Sandy wouldn't kill off major NPCs off screen. I would, not him. You guys are just lucky he heads up the large story. I (PERSONALLY) think it would be a more interesting story if the Bonapartes fell apart after the heroes made the "right choice", and the power of Eubric fell apart around them. Then the heroes would have to figure out some new power balance. Random happenstance makes awesome story. Read Game of Thrones, go watch some Film Noir.
-
Yes, I'm aware he appeared then, but not in earnest. Every time you interacted with him, he could pretty much be killed.
-
We've got some inventive QMs. It may be hard for me to rebuild pieces of the ship, but if I can, I certainly will. I wonder if all three heroes own it together, and how they divi it up. Do they each get it every third weekend? Sandy, great quest, as always. I will be interested to see how the story progresses from here. I made my commentary on Hestia's choice in the Discussion thread, but I liked what she did and what you did. I'm sad to see Reno go- he seemed sort of fated for death. I think he's the only NPC who could really be killed in every quest he appeared in. I'm hoping there is a crazy twist in the big story now. Things that would be awesome (to me, narrative-wise) would be is a) Nemo died of sadness and b) his daughter died in the North. I could see people whining that we didn't get to effect that, but I like stories with harsh random happenstance. I think it would be super awesome. But probably unlikely. Anyway, great as always, excited to see where this goes, especially as we're seeing more of the Ji Pei and they don't seem that devious. If it comes down to saving one of the families... that'd be an interesting choice. Jun or Attina, who do y'all love me?

I think (hope) that Trumpet would have told us if he were the vig. It would have been worth mentioning. I too will wait for Scouty, but my vote will be cast on him unless he makes a compelling and even case against it being cast on him.- 175 replies

Boomingham grimaces. "Try to not kill my gambling buddies, Sorrow. If we could just incapacitate them... I don't mind Orcie going, I'm sure as Hel he started all this trouble, but the Metmasian and the others don't need to die. Just a drunken brawl." Boomingham repeats his attack, being careful to not kill Dimon, just bleed him enough that he gives up.
-
Eh, you've got some essences and a dragon that loves you.
-
A little faith in yourself, Lil' Corny. You may not all be conscious at the end of the battle, but it's looking like a very likely victory for you guys, especially after that most recent stunt. Imagine one of those Chaos Regulators gets a shield, or Skrall gets a shield... that's pretty much the battle right there. Remember, the Chaos Beasts/summons die with her.

Eurobricks Mafia II: Mafia School: Day Two
Zepher replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Yes, that's actually what I'm asking for... not for you to say more, but to say things of substance. I didn't want you to point out every time you spoke up, but rather when you said something of import. Thank you! I'm over the moon for you too! The Danny thing is a bit of a stretch. Scum don't drop little hints like "better if they were on our side... hehe, that's being the scum side, hehe, I'm so clever". I don't think his wording in that case can be really an indicator of anything, though his vote is intriguing, even if only a little bit. It would actually be more likely for a scumbo to nominate a town player, early on- Mayor rarely survives (though I've got my talons... fingers crossed for you, Corny! ) and sometimes when voting for someone for mayor gains their trust a little. Not to be discounted, but not particularly strong. Interestingly, (and Scouty, you'll be happy to hear this) Piratedave was already pinging a little even before that joke as a "fluff" poster. Then he made that awkward "tell me your PRs, just kidding, but seriously" sort of joke. Can't say I'm a fan. Redblade has also been a consistent fluff poster as well. Sorry if that's too broad, Lil' Scouty.- 175 replies

I think you guys are doing pretty well anyway!

Actually, they were changed much later, when I complained about the issue in a different battle.

Merciful, wrong... same difference, right? Thanks for watching my stupidity, CMP.

Technically not a revival, Roland isn't dead, nor is he actually probably there.

No, it's not. I'm saying hearing it from another person makes me realize how scummy it sounds, even coming from me. I just happen to know that I'm town, so I'm looking at you... even though you could too just be a townie saying something that sounds sort of scummy.- 175 replies

Technically, when attacking party members, row doesn't come into account anyway. But front row is more bad @ss anyway. "The Master of Regret is no friend of mine. I regret nothing." Eurobricks Mafia II: Mafia School: Day Two
Zepher replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Great minds... though strangely, hearing that from another person seems a little scummy, as in it seems you're telling us to discount what he said. Scouty, you're getting mighty bristly. Share your suspicions. In fact, quote to me one time you attempted to contribute. You keep saying "accusing me is ridiculous, I'm helping/have shared what I want to share". I'm not discounting Earthling emotions because you- er- we all get a little angry when accused, but tell us why we're wrong in specifics, not broad strokes! He had to be a recruiter if the SCUM killed him... which they seem to be assuming they did... maybe they know something we don't.- 175 replies

Yeah, encouraged etc. are just multipliers. I agree, the +power needs to be recorded somewhere. It's the thing I most consistently drop as a QM, and the thing I see most consistently dropped as a player.
