I'm not saying stopping the game tomorrow. Sandy predicted at first that it would be a FIVE YEAR story... at least. We've got time to explore. I'm certainly not done with my stories yet either.
-
My dream for the end of Heroica is this: Heroica storyline ends with the end of the Wolfgang plot. Then, Sandy hands over the reigns to someone else, we skip forward a few hundred years, and start a new story in the same world, but that people could join without having read the first game. I don't know who would have the time to do what Sandy does (certainly not me ) but it would still be cool, and we'd still be able to give this story an ending. Also, for the record, I didn't think YOU wanted to really be crowned King. I know that it's a joke/character choice, and that you're pretty opposed to stealing spotlight. I just am afraid that sometimes others forget.

"8:25." The wereraven looks Docken up and down. "You'll do well tonight. Be careful of assassins. They're made to destroy well defended men like yourself." "As for the drinks, it is important to note that Guffington himself dictated who got which cup. You remember that he stood near the door to the kitchen as they were coming out? I believe he wanted to make sure that no one beyond himself was poisoned. Perhaps your cup was one of those spilled."

Boomingham spits blood towards Octavyn. "Don't torture Karie. Fight like a man." Boomingham heals himself from the backrow. "We're going with Arthur's plan, chaps. Karie, I will get Em up before the end of the fight. He deserves it."

Updates rolling in! I have to say, I find the little secret societies relatively interesting... sometimes. That being said, if Heroica ends with King Guts, I will not be pleased. That would be the ultimate character stealing the spotlight moment.
-
"Captain Holla most certainly already has realized the importance of our time repetition. Now you know when events happen. What will happen when the sun sets at 8:30? Unless disturbed, the waiters and waitresses will retreat into the kitchen to serve the wine. What will happen at 8:55? Unless disturbed by our actions, Guffington will keel over dead. They were markers so that we may know how to act when."

Assassin should be bleeding. No one target the Assassin. Boomingham smiles grimly as their first enemy goes down. "If you could make this Assassin fragile, Arthur, I'd appreciate it greatly. I'm going to take the moment to make sure I'm in proper fighting condition, and then deal with that pesky Assassin." Boomingham heals himself while standing in front of his party, sword raised in anticipation for the Assassin's attack. Battle Order Boomingham Arthur Arthur Arnulf Em Karie

Everstien makes his way to the party just as the blue winged servant steps out of the Kitchen. Guts slips in before the door can close. "Hello heroes," Everstien coughs weakly a few times. "How is the party treating you this time around? We have time to discuss a little now. The syrup that the good Doctor injected into us can only send us back an hour, so I'm sure you understand the necessity of our rather hasty departure from the future." Everstien laughs a raspy laugh and collapses into another fit of coughing. He squawks harshly to clear his throat and continues. "I apologize, time travel does not agree with me." "Now, the simple facts and objectives. Recently, Lord Hughes was found dead. The officials of Bric'Lin pronounced it natural causes, but Guffington believes strongly that his friend was poisoned. He has narrowed down a list of suspects, and set up a party in which he was certain that they would strike at him. He was baiting the trap, you see. His death confirmed his suspicions. One of these people murdered both Lord Hughes and Guffington, and we must use any means necessary to discover which." "There is a catch, however. These are Guffington's dear friends, or at least the ones not murdering him are. Guffington wishes to be absolutely sure before he turns any of them over to the Watch. He also would very much appreciate not dying when we apprehend the individual. We may go back in time two more times after this. That third time, we must apprehend someone before Guffington drinks the wine. That means that this time we must at least figure out one of the important questions - the who, the how, or the why."

"Everyone, do as the Private says!"

Yes indeed, and CMP has already thought up a very cool history and set of traits for them that can very nicely be rolled into Lady Felix, who I very much like already. I hope you guys are enjoying the NPCs, I don't think I've EVER introduced this many new ones in one quest. I don't generally like it, but the quest sort of mandated it.
-
"That almost rhymed, Captain Guts," Lady Felix says with a great broad smile. "And you may be so bold. I find boldness very attractive." The heroes arrive in the room. The faun server, Thomas, remains the only one in the room. Assumedly the other two remain in the kitchen, as they were the first time the heroes arrived in the room. Guffington has yet, like last time, to actually enter the Dining Hall. The heroes all glance at Everstien, who immediately begins to make his way towards them, his eyes locked with theirs.

I have been wanting to use that head for a while, but didn't want to make up yet another species. I feel like I've done enough, so I'm happy to be featuring two of my other favorite species from QMs: Wereraven from Danny and a Selkreeth from CMP!

I've got a lot of nice information on them, thanks to CallMePie. They seem pretty cool, I hope Pie explores them a little more, or someone else does it.

"Yes, yes, of course I remember, my friend!" "Ah, some Charissan Wine. An expensive drink for a hero, but I suppose one must know their tastes. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Captain Guts." Lady Felix shakes his hand and smiles. Guffington smiles cordially, but Nyx notices a little bit of sadness and even perhaps fear in his eyes. "It's always best to be prepared," he says. "What with the excitement of the Ball, I thought I should warn that there might be murder. You've heard that my dear friend and rival Lord Hughes was murdered recently, correct? You never know when tragedy may strike. We're still trying to figure out exactly what happened to him - the who, why, how, all of that. Perhaps I'll hire you some time to look into it." Guffington nods to the heroes graciously and turns to Lady Felix. "If you wouldn't mind escorting the heroes to the dining hall, I believe they have a great many faces to meet and greet. I personally must check on something at the gatehouse. I'll be with you shortly." Guffington gives Lady Felix a kiss on the cheek and walks past the heroes.

We need some different flavors. Don't tone him down. Everyone argues for such 'noble reasons', but in reality, some people are just petty, some like fighting, and some just have a very set way they can't leave. Not every story has to conclude with the person learning everything bad about them and fixing them. I like Pretzel as is.

Day Notes They kind of died out when you guys stopped doing much. I'll have responses up about the game soon. A lot of your complaints are the same as mine. There were too many judgement calls in this game for my taste. I don't go against the calls I made, I just wish I hadn't needed to make them. More on that in a few hours. Day One Quietest Day One ever. Not even much to write about. Hopefully the introduction of the pills will get them talking – I hope that one of the inventors gets an upper so that those can come into play sooner, currently they’re a very slow “warm-up” period of a skill. I like everyone’s confusion over the plot/setting. Can’t tell if its genuine or just role-play, but I like it either way. Hinckley mentioned the no dick rule, will have to explain to him afterwards that I thought about including it, but I was afraid doing so would be restricting/potentially encourage dickishness. Everyone has been friendly and well behaved so far. I am confused by Piratedave’s posts with their lack of punctuation and capital letters. It may be a ploy, or he may be foreign, or he may just be typing quickly and not paying attention, who knows? In the first hour of pills or so everyone has picked a placebo, but I think they’re all none power roles too, which means that the chances of a power role getting a real pill are getting higher… also, wonder where Adam is, hope I don’t have to boot the Treestump, could be the best character in the whole game! Still not a whole lot of talking. Hopefully voting will up the output, especially with the threat of a death no matter what. I wish I could post the interlude right now, but sadly I have to head out to work. I like this interlude, but I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow morning. Pills going out now. Too bad work keeps interfering with the time frame. Not too happy about that, this was probably the worst weekend to start a Mafia game. The one unvote rule is causing at least some conversation. All the scum have been accused at this point already, I think, which isn’t great for them, but they could easily try to be accused and then fly under, that’s always a good scum technique. Everyone whined about the pills, but I just typed out so many placebo PMs. Rufus, who is already protected from night kills, got a lifesaver. Thought that was petty funny. Fhommes, the town blocker, got a downer pill, so that should be interesting too and also gives the scum a little leg up, which they may need if one of their own is lynched today. The SK (Esurient) has also already garnered finger pointing. Wonder who they’ll kill? WBD is also protected from killings tonight, which means that the scum have already discovered one lifesaver. I wonder if they’ll pass it around, or if they’ll think that’s too suspicious. I haven’t checked their writeboard in a while. So happy our quiet Treestump got the God Pill. Maybe the pills will get some conversation going? The day is still very slow. The scum have got to stop defending themselves so outright, especially TrumpetKing defending the snake charmer. Kadabra and WBD are playing it cool, at least. Would be surprised if anyone other than Trumpet or Darth got voted off today, though for whatever reason Walter Kovacs has received the most votes. Still lots of votes to be placed, wonder what everyone is waiting for. Why is Tammo backing off? Maybe just being nice? Tammo could really be a good player this game, excited to see what he gets himself into. The thread is being viewed by a ton of people, could be quite a few posts now. Night One Interesting night. The JOAT found the killer’s alligence, that could be really powerful for the town if the JOAT tells Bob that he knows he’s town… of course, Bob would have to trust him back, but even so. The kill on WBD was a good choice too, but Bob probably won’t think of retargeting him, because I doubt he’ll think of the lifesaver. I feel like a lot of people didn’t really pay much attention to the rules for some reason. Kristel’s death gets rid of one of the Uppers, so, that’s that. def is out of the picture as well (so sad, I wanted to see what he did in a chill game) and Tammo has passed on the role cop action, which I guess might be smart, but handicaps the town seriously. Day Two Rufus and Hinck are in a cat fight over nothing. Bob should be paying more attention and defending himself – losing him at this point would be very bad for the town, losing two power roles in two day is bad bad bad. I think ALL the scum came under suspicion yesterday, and today suddenly none of them are being discussed at all. They were very vocally supporting each other too, but the Cultist/BONAD/Hinck/Rufus are really distracting from that. Also, why in the WORLD did Bob claim to Hinck… I mean, he’s a town, which is good, but still, why? And now of course Hinckley doesn’t trust him… Because why would he do that? Also, clearly for future games, a watcher is necessary, scares people out of targeting the same person too much/targeting prominent members of the town. Bob, why did you go and do that? Clearly Hinck was verifying the Witch’s claim. You would have known everything in just a few hours. I mean… you happen to be right about the witch, but even so, you don’t know that. Kadabra protected the Witch too quickly too, throwing out the possibility of a pill as if he already knew… but then again, a smart townie would know it was likely too (props to technic for noticing that has the highest probability too). Kadabra is playing a pretty believable/good game besides that, and is very much willing to call out his own team publically for stupid statements. The scum in this game seem strangely chummy, but Kadabra and WBD have been pretty good at not running with the pack. Another day wrapped: why oh why, scum, do you continue to be so openly teamy?! The smartest thing to do tonight for the scum would be to frame Hinckley and janitor LegoDad. That would confuse and panic the town. With the janitor role used, they wouldn’t think that a frame could be used too. Of course, they may think of the upper, but it’s a long shot… The night could quite possibly pass with no kills, as those who might be targeted will totally be under protection or have a lifesaver. The Serial Killer might be able to sneak one in, but only if he goes after someone with not much going on. Also, funny that everyone complained about too many “power pills”: there is only one of each left now. Day 3 Okay, town is in the right direction, but needs to get their stuff together a little. Hinckley is angry that I killed off the Cultist if he dropped out of the game… where did he think I was going to get an alternate from? We almost didn’t have enough players… aka, we DIDN’T have enough players to begin with, and I’d already asked for an alternate. Tammo is pointing his finger at the right person, but Hinck’s being all huffy about it. Wonder why? I wonder if Tammo is getting into contact with Hinck or Bob, now that he’s the JOAT. Hinck proposes to out both the JOAT and vig… why? How does he know there are two unkillable pills left? There aren’t… and the JOAT could in theory just keep the vig alive every day he doesn’t take a pill, and investigate every other day… by why out any roles? I think if they out everyone, the scum just won’t counterclaim, and then… the PRs for the town will just be gone. Tammo also knows they lost their role cop, wonder if he’s shared that. Watchers not being included was dumb, there is no fear for the scum to target people. Will have to fix that next game, would have been a good role. Wonder why no one is worried about the SK, both sides need to kill him to win… but no one has brought him up. ALSO, the SK should be trying to get the scum this time around. Also, this 3/4th number was too high and dumb, bad choice on my part. But they can still get the lynch. Do they really think the scum won’t vote with them? Don’t they think that the scum would know not voting would obviously out them for every day beyond today. Also, I was hoping they’d consider doing this with the pills. Very smart. Hinckley clearly had the God Pill quoted to him… thought I said no quoting, but I guess I never mentioned in PM. Boo. Also, someone misinformed him about the God Pill. It makes the person unlynchable the day they take it, not the day after. I’m very happy I included the pills. I wanted people to analysis things in thread and not only rely on night actions, and that’s exactly what’s going on. Perfect! Rufus just outed himself! The inventors were the ones I was most interested in getting outed! If the scum inventor had outed himself first… there is no way for them to be investigated, or killed, so people may have claimed to them. That’s what I would have done if I was scum in this game. I wonder if people will claim to Rufus, or lynch him? I’m excited by my own game. I think there’s a lot of thinking. I like the open game format. I hope everyone is having fun. Here come the pills. My weekends are so busy, if I could figure out how to have the nights land on them always, that’d be great, but it’s a 4-5 day cycle, so that can’t happen. Woop, what is Darth Potato doing?! Wow, another interesting development. This is really Darth taking one for the team, I wonder what will happen tonight. I’m actually kind of intrigued by this development. This could be a game changer either direction. Wonder why he didn’t snag the God Pill? That would have cost the town a day, which would have been really tough on them, and the Scum would have known exactly who to kill because they would have known who was unprotected… Why is Hinckley still complaining about this “unlynchable” situation? He himself very accurately pointed out why its not an “unlynchable” situation. Obviously the scum MUST act with the town. They can still lynch someone easily. And no, one of the God actions DOESN’T make a lynch of a scum impossible. In this certain case, it does if the scum out themselves entirely, but if they had lost one less townie by playing the game smarter up until this point, this wouldn’t be bad for them. Hinckley, why must you whine about things you can do well at! You’re winning this game and using the system to your advantage, why are you having problems with it? Oh, there’s Hinckley realizing that he can totally still lynch. Maybe someone else pointed out earlier that scum wouldn’t vote stupidly. Tammo has high hopes.. but he’s not thinking about the Inventor, who is essentially untrackable, and the SK, who the town can’t find now without a Role Cop (which he knows they don’t have). This is fun! I should probably go read the scum board, haven’t read it all day. Wow, holy shit, they talked a lot today, time to do some reading… Well, Hinckley lied about knowing that DP was anti-town, that’s interesting. He was never investigated… weird stuff. It did give them a whole issue with claiming him as inventor or not… but I think they ended up claiming him inventor, which is actually really good for them. If they can keep that pistol unused long enough, they could win by killing a crap load in one night. Could be interesting. Apparently they know Esurient is the SK too... interesting that, wonder what it means for both him and them. SCUM, STOP TRYING TO PROTECT EACH OTHER IN THREAD. Protecting ANY one else is weird. Even accusing people is weird. Scum should straight up never ever interact in thread, unless for calling each other out on obviously strange things. Follow WBD’s lead, he never obviously supports or accuses any member of the scum team. TrumpetKing, WHY?! I saw you discussing it in the Scum discussion board, but WHY CLAIM?! The best that could happen is that someone counterclaims, and then you both lose a role cop. Never good for the scum, equal trades. Also, why isn’t town lynching Potato and vigging Trumpet? That makes more sense with the pills they have, unless they’re trying to save the life saver? Anyway, Trumpet, you shouldn’t have claimed to them. You may have been found out, but it would have been way later. And why did you admit to not having the gun?! They wouldn’t have been worried about it if they thought you had it. Why why why? Kadabra, don’t act so indignant when accused. That’s exactly what scum does – clings to one person accusing them, and then that’s it. You should quietly address it once, and then if they bring it up again don’t say anything about it. Also, Purpearl, WBD, even NPC, I gotta say I’m a little disappointed in them right now. Why are they NOT playing the game? This scum team could have been very good in this set up, and could even be redeemed, but they’re randomly being so lazy all of a sudden… I’m sort of sad to see the game go so quickly just because they couldn’t be bothered to pretend to be at least middle of the road. Also, why don’t they know that Bob is the Vig? It’s pretty damn obvious. They really think that the vig randomly claimed to Bob on the first night? Why would he ever do that? The only other possible explanation is the Bob is the JOAT… Night Three Could have been a very different night if Bob had changed his action to WBD, who was protected. Day Four The scum are going all in, and I love it. At least its an interesting game. The town should be worried about the SK too, the closer the game gets, the closer to a potential win the SK gets, and they HAVE to lynch the SK… a fact that they should know. I’m still confused as to the scum kills last night (should have just nailed Tammo, would have been in a much better position today) but oh well. Still wonder what would have happened if the scum had flown under the radar better, or used the game structure to their advantage (SO ANGRY TRUMPET FELL FOR THAT TRAP, and equally angry Purpearl never tried to claim town inventor early on, because there’d be NO WAY to verify either claim other than a lynch – he could have started an “opposing town block”, and maybe even drummed up a few actions. Also, still sort of confused as to how Esurient and the scum got connected – wonder if the scum will offer up the SK as a way of buying another day, but still, so interesting. Gotta love that God Pill. Hell, I don’t even know if this is strictly mafia anymore, but I’m having a blast. I really hope everyone else is having fun. I wonder if def is purposely keeping me out of the deadboard, I hope not. I wonder if they’re all complaining there. What universe do these people play in where penalty votes are carried over? Also, would have been interesting for the scum to have purpearl take the god pill yesterday, and then take nothing today (maybe even the downer), but claim to be something other than the inventor. The town probably would have allowed her to live until night, hoping to vig her. That could have saved the scum a day. Would have been interesting. The town is right though: not making voting mandatory was idiotic. Live and learn, I guess. I think the way I handled the Universal back-up was unfair too – should have formatted my message to Trumpet the same way “you have lost you _____, would you like to fill that spot?” Then he may have known that the town might know what power roles they lost. Also, confused by Bob outing himself… Still relatively disappointed the scum didn’t try to fly under the radar better for at least a while, still relatively sure a little more activity and use of the set up could have really aided them, but still interested in the game and to see what happens. Voting time! Bob and Tammo are really playing the SK well. I don’t know what Esur should do. The scum can, of course, equally threaten to out him if he doesn’t vote alongside them. I think it would be smartest for the SK to vote with scum? Probably? If they lynch a townie today, and kill another tonight, and the vig can’t kill any of them, and the SK and scum killer score hits… that would be 4 town tomorrow v. 1 SK v. 2 scum. That’s still a game for the SK, at least. Assuming it votes with the town today, PGO live until tomorrow… that would be a 7 town – 1 Sk -1 scum. That’s not winnable for the SK. I think it would be smartest to throw in with the scum, but even so, it is a gamble. I don’t understand why the town thinks that logically the SK should side with them, particularly when apparently two people have contacted the SK and told them that they KNOW he’s the SK. What was the gambit in that?! Clearly if the SKs already outed, it won’t mind outing itself, which the town is arguing against. Perhaps they wanted to lord it against the SK and forgot their strategy? This game is still really anyone’s. If Tammo and Potato get lynched today, that will be 6-1-2 (and, side note: Tammo, a dignified effort is not trying to figure out how to bend the rules so you survive, its figuring out how to allow your team to continue once your dead). Tomorrow will automatically be a ¾ lynch. If the SK or the scum killer kill Bob, who randomly outed himself as the vig (they should concentrate fire since they have been threatened with being blocked) and Pupearl gets out an invention… tomorrow would be 5-1-2, no lynch scenario with purpearl and SK unkillable at night, and the scum with an invention and kill action… town got too cocky. Randomly outing themselves. Why’d you do that, Bob?!

Guffington looks down at Hybros and smiles. "Again, is it?" Henry Hinckwell finishes up his conversation. He steps away from who the heroes now recognize as Lord Chauncey and walks through the big doors. Chauncey turns to look at the heroes, and he and Nyx make contact briefly. He then heads inside as well. "Hybros, Guts, Docken, and Nyx!" Guffington bows to the final name, and shakes her hand exuberantly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, finally. I saw you at the Founder's Day Ball. Quite an evening." Guffinton turns to all the others. "How have you been? I'm very happy you were able to make my party. I'm afraid that most of these people don't see many rough and tumble adventurers, should do their blood some good. This here is Zora Felix, an old friend of mine." "It's a pleasure, heroes." Guts checks his pack and notices that there are two bottles of wine in it. He notices, however, that all the consumables that he and his fellow heroes took while walking to the party itself are still missing.

Well, its been done once before, but this time its through... science! And it can't be replicated easily, for reasons that will be explained later. But I'm happy everyone is enjoying the twist.
