  1. Stats can be found here. And I know you wanted to go to the Courtyard, the hallway is between the two, and I wanted to give you the option to chat with Avery should you desire. I will move you into the courtyard just as soon as Nyx posts an action. Madame Ladybug goes pale with fear. "Gods no, Guffington is a good friend of the Guild and myself. Should I keep my eyes open, Master Guts?"
  2. Boomingham and Shawe are the same, but I don't know if we've shown up elsewhere. I use Guts' face a lot for "common soldiers". I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head.
  3. Haha, I'll clean it up! Its funny, if they had fought him earlier he'd have different attacks - though deflect was actually already interestingly enough part of his skill set.
  4. "It's for a lesson," she says simply, placing a calming hand on his arm. "I do not speak for my associates. If Cula is there, he may teach you one thing, if Victoria is there, she may teach you another. Perhaps you'll even get a lesson from the Masked Man, hmmmm. Patience, Guts. As for the bombs, yes, a deal has been struck. The Guild has heard the call for stronger ware, and is distributing it to the Bonapartes right now. I continue to strive to perfect the art, however. The man Shawe gave quite an empowered speech on the matter, so perhaps you will be seeing something on the market soon." "So be it," says Avery. "Excuse me, Lady Felix. Apparently they are in dire need of my help elsewhere." Avery follows Hybros into the hallway. Watters gives a gnarled trumpet-esque laugh. "I've answered your questions, and you ain't letting me go. Now you're bringing someone here who is meant to kill me. Red Assassins swear to not hurt bystanders if they can help it, Blues, we aren't so picky." Watters lunges at Nyx. Finale Battle of the Courtyard The Enemies Watters the Blue Assassin Level 48 Humanoid *Immune to Sleep, Blinded, Sealed, and Instant Kill* *Hastened* Health: 960/960 SP: 1 Special I: Sampling – Takes a sip of the mulled wine, becomes inspired. Special II: Bolas to the Feet – Watters tosses throwing bolas, entangling the hero, dealing the Bound and Slowed effects for the duration of the battle until remedied. The hero cannot move until both effects are removed. Cannot be used unless previous attempt already remedied. Special III: Bladestorm – Watters rains the party with throwing knives, doing 20 damage, ignoring row to each of them. Can only be used once. Special IV: Shroud – Blue Assassin Prodigy becomes invisible, making them unable to be targeted for the duration of the round. At the beginning of the next round, they will pull the hero that rolled Special Damage into the darkness, causing them to be Blinded for the next 3 rounds and Stunned. Passive Special I: Deflect – Successful hits and spells on the Blue Assassin Prodigy have a 1/6 chance of being deflected to a random ally. Passive Special II: Free Reign - Free hits pierce SP and ignore row. Drops: Mulled Wine (If Special I not rolled) Cloak of the Blue Assassin (SP: 1), Dagger of the Blue Assassin (WP: 4, Aims become Hits), 500 Gold, Spinning Bolas – WP: 5, deals the Slowed effect, but the effect is removed when retrieved, throwing weapon The Party Nyx Level 28 Battle Mage *Natural Respite* *Immune to Sealed effects* *Immune to Asleep and Fast Asleep effects* *Encouraged* Power: 42 Power Bonus: 1 Defense: 3 Health: 39/39 Ether: 40/40 Gold: 61 Equipment: Zee Standard (Staff, WP: 14 Ice and Darkness Elemental, Necromancers Raise Enemies with 2 extra levels), Robe of the Archmagi (SP:3, Max. 5. 44 is well worth the read. Its probably still my favorite quest to read to date.
  6. "I wish to speak to the elves, but I feel no need to see the Mopag. Perhaps we can meet at noon and go see our furry friends for Nerwen, and then we will make our decision and make a plan."
  7. Docken joins the others in the Dining Hall. Madame Ladybug smiles lightly. "You did not strike me as one who would be so interested in our endeavors, Master Guts. I always figured you as one for the knife and sword, not mortar and pestle, hmmmmm. But if you are indeed interested," she looks at him with interest, and cocks her head to the side a little, "well, we do train apprentices. When you begin your training with your Copper Fox, come to see the Guild, and perhaps we can teach you a thing or two." Madame Ladybug hands Guts aVoucher to the Guild with her signature on it. Perhaps later he can turn it in for a trick or two. "We don't take the second half of the payment until the job is done," clarifies the agitated Watters. "As for my target... well, you'll just have to forgive me if I go check to make sure he's dead. Words mean very little to me." Watters begins to step back into the Manor - force will be necessary should Nyx wish to stop him. "My boss is the U'Kin," says Avery dismissively.
  8. "I'll strike you a deal, Nerwen. Shall we trade spots for the day - you to Shawe, and I to the elves - and see where we stand when the sun sets again? I'll admit it, I haven't heard the elves side of all this, though I don't think I'll like it all that much." Boomingham licks his lips. "As for the Pongcanis, I've seen them murder, rather actively. But if you're going to go speak to this dreadful pirate, I'll be coming with you."
  9. "I'll speak for Shawe," Boomingham offers warmly as he glances around with watering eyes. "Does anyone else smell bacon? Anyway, Nerwen, I get wanting to cozy on up to the elves, but seeing as they've pretty much run the town to ruins, I can't say I see the benefit. If they had the means to defend the people and refused, I'd say that's pretty much murder in my books. Besides that, Shawe has promised to help the people. He's upfront about not having the most honorable motivations, but Hel, he'll get the job done, and it's what the people want. I'll be interested to see what our little Brobric elf thinks of it. Where'd you say you hid her, mage?"
  10. Docken messes around in the kitchen... Lady Felix nods merrily and heads over to talk with Avery, who seems more than happy to stop serving and start talking. Guts waits impatiently while Shawe and Ladybug finish up their discussion. Shawe leaves more happily than he has in previous encounters, and Madame Ladybug turns to Guts. "Hello, Master Guts! It has been a long time since the two of us have seen each other. I trust you remain in good health? Hmmmmm. How is it that you've gotten yourself invited to a Guffington party?" Watter's eyes narrow as Hybros and Everstien appear. Everstien engages him in patronizing and pleasant conversation as Hybros and Nyx whisper. "Quite a party you've got here in the courtyard," Watters says, pinching each word. "The man Marsh hired me. Now, if you'd excuse me, I have work to see to." Watters begins to confidently stray towards the door, keeping his narrowed eyes on the heroes and Doctor.
  11. Maybe he's Cronk's great-grandpa? I haven't built a MOC in three years. It was fun to do again, though I had to do it in only two nights while still cleaning up. It was good fun, thanks for the motivation, Draggy.
  12. Boomingham shuffles down the stairs and greets everyone with a gruff but friendly nod. Barty hovers on his shoulder. "Morning, all. What's for breakfast? I'm starved."
  13. Once, in the Orcish War, there were two generals who were set to face each other. The Great Paladin Leader Gabriel, and the Orcish War Chief Cornelius. The two were avid rivals, but they respected each other's prowess. When their armies clashed, the two found each other, and dealt each other mortal wounds. Dying next to each other, they each had but one request - that they be buried next to the creature that had killed them, the creature they respected most in the world. To this day their tombs stand (slightly weathered, of course), and rest in a tranquil spot. Some days people pay their dues, but most of the time the tombs are left in tranquil peace.
  14. An question/assignment almost exactly like that in the QM Lounge, but for all roleplayers. RANK every quest you've been on. Not in how much you enjoyed it/quality of the quest, but how important it was to your character and their development. Give a small reason why. This will help you figure out how your character has grown within the world, as they should. I think the best characters are those affected by the quests they've been on. This should jog your memory, and make you evaluate your playing/what your character holds dear/what memories affect their current actions. Might be interesting.
  15. MOC is photographed! I haven't built one in about 3 years, so I'm curious to see what y'all think. A few questions, so I'm not in trouble: 1) The MOC doesn't need minifigures, does it? It doesn't say in the rules that it does, just want to be sure. 2) We are allowed 3 pictures, correct? And no link to an external site/thread. We ARE, however, allowed to post the creation in a different thread in the (probably) History Forum, right? To receive feedback on it there? Just so long as we don't link the two... or should that be saved for after the contest?
  16. Daneeka seems to smile behind his breathing apparatus. "I'm sure there are quite a few that he can't read, but very few that I cannot. I will go fetch a decoy." Daneeka exits the room. Guts looks around and sees that all three of his queries are in the room, milling around at different places. Avery is serving Lord Chauncey, Lady Marsh is having a distracted conversation with Elba, and Lord Marsh and Lord Hinckwell are deep in talk. Watters gives a nasally laugh. "Red Assassin. Pah! A bunch of fools. Taking their oaths, having their rules. They're an older order than mine. Blue Assassins take two oaths - we don't take the money until the job is done, and we don't die. I don't know anything about this bloody red assassin. If you give me their name, I'll kill them. And there aren't any other blue assassins here. We aren't so foolish as to send more than one of us to an event. Now, I'll be getting back to work unless you have that name for me." Hybros is just barely to lift the gold with Everstien's help. It must be a massive amount. Once they get it into the magical satchels that all Heroicans wear, it is much easier to carry. Everstien flips through the account books as he answers. "Hm." He says. "Hm," he says again. "It boils down to this, I think. Lord Marsh knew that he was making an assassination. He rarely brings his wife to events. He has brought her to this one. We must assume that he did this for a reason." Everstien shrugs and tosses the book down. "He furthermore has, according to this book, paid off two undisclosed sources very recently. I believe that means he has two agents here. Which two, and their targets... that should shed some light." The search of the desk turns up dust. Docken feels a little bit healthier as he hides the body, and then discovers that, thankfully as a long range fighter, he got no blood splatters.
  17. Round Four Kitchen Finale >Docken v. Clippard - Aim/Critical Hit (92) >Docken v. Clippard - Hit/Damage (82-10=72, KO) Shrooms v. Docken - (0 Damage) (31/2=16 Damage All Shrooms) Docken fires a bolt or two through the heart. The Shrooms put forward some resistance, but they are unable to stand the heat of the battle without their former master, and crumbles shortly there-after (skipping the auto-running, you wouldn't have taken damage and would have counterstruck them to death). The battle is victorious! The Party Bartholomew Docken, Dragonslayer Level 32 Warden *Takes Halved Damage from Free Hits* *Scary* *Immune to Defense Reduction, Confusion, Blindness, Badly Poisoned, and Fragile* *Hastened* *Lucky* *Encouraged* Power: 42 Defense: 24 Health: 62/62 Gold: 865 GP: 4 Equipment: Darksteel Crossbow (WP: 10; Blinded-effect), Mythril Shield (SP: 20), Dread Hat (permanent Scary-effect; immune to Defense Reduction, Confusion, Blindness, Badly Poisoned, and Fragile; Headwear), Mail of the Renegade Commander (SP: 3; Damage of all Free Hits is halved; Bodywear), Eye of the Beholder Amulet (Accessory, Once per quest the hero may re-roll the last round) Inventory: Health Cores (3), Grand Potions (5), Remedies (5), Phoenix Incense, Phoenix Essences (2), Bones (7), Smoke Bombs (3), Teleportapple, Bedroll, Counterstrike Gloves (After the wearer is struck by a Free Hit, he counters with strength equal to his Level; Handwear), Medal of Glory (Mark of true talent that allows the wearer to gain triple experience from battles; Accessory), Cobweb Cowl (immune to Instant-KO; Backwear), Chef’s Apron (Bodywear, Immunity to fire and poisons), Pan (WP: 1, +1 Max Health, suitable for all classes), Fishstick (WP: 7, deals double damage on ships, club), Nostrum, Mead, Smelling Salts, Phoenix Essence, Doomshroom Cap, Growshroom Cap, Oneupshroom Cap, Tinyshroom Cap The kitchen stands bloody and empty. Docken can't help but remember the last time Guts left it in this state. Time: 8:10 "I'm no chemist, and mixing potions dilutes the whole batch." Everstien shrugs non-commitially. "It's not just a love potion, I'll tell you that. It gives me an adrenaline rush just drinking that little drop of it." The nightstand contains a book of accounts, a play by Stirlance, and a huge satchel. Hybros opens it up to see shimmering gold. He picks up a note on top that simply says: "I'm a blue assassin," he wheezes with a slightly defeated sigh. "I was sent here to kill someone, obviously. My target," he glances back at the house and sighs again, "is that cook, Clippard. There is more to him than meets the eye, I'll tell you that. Now, can I get back to work?" Madame Ladybug and Doc Daneeka enter the room, and after a short conversation Shawe swoops down and takes Ladybug away to discuss.
  18. For my own responses: Coming up. As I said, it was just an idea. I'm actually fishing a little - there is a quest I really want to host, but I can't get the plot together properly. It introduces an important character or two for later quests, and an item, but I don't know how to hang it together. So I wanted to know if others would be interested in that sort of stuff. Seconded about dwarves and Masked Man. And I like that idea a lot! They are never quite so grand as you think. I can't host a quest that ends the game (Sandy gets that honor ) so all the heroes sort of walk away from them and do other stuff later. It's a mixed bag. Perhaps more collaboration too. I'm just saying, those quest ideas that you had two years ago, wouldn't it be cool to see one or two of them now, with someone else's spin on them? I'm doing (purposefully minor) character fleshing out for Madame Ladybug (taking many cues off of what you've already done). But if I tossed Johnny Everyman, for example, out into the world - well, he may come back to me with even more depth, because someone else would have given him a new fun spin. It's like seeing your own character from another person's eyes. Agreed again. And an answer to one of my own questions: Chaos in Eubric - Repetitive sometimes, sure. But I can't not love it. I felt the most excited to post the next bit of the story for this whole quest. Stingy loot would be the only thing I'd fix, and maybe some easier battles here and there. Ambassadors to Dastan - My most sprawling quest to date. What can beat Dastan? Awesome culture, great characters. The Lost Party - My best story driven quest. Easy, to the point, formulaic without being boring, easy sets with decent pictures. I was pleased with this one and thought that the flashbacks worked. A Party - I get complaints that it's a bit slow. But god am I having fun. The Great Hunt - Fun characters, easy storyline, easy battle calculations. Let's Start a Riot - A pretty solid quest. Wish I had delved into McColt more, I feel I didn't develop his character enough here and he suffered from there on in. Still, okay structure, some fun battles, GREAT party. The Great Guffington - Fun battles, fun to explore one character in depth, not much more of note. A Night at the Theatre - Flat flat flat. It was fine. I liked the puzzles, but that's about it. The Arena - Was still figuring things out. Battles were too easy and too poorly run. Set the stage for some later stuff. Also, not a good part of what is now "The World of Heroica", in my opinion.
  19. Boomingham tosses over ten gold. "Hope you don't mind sharing a bed for the evening, Ranger. I can't afford much else." Boomingham turns next to the little dwarf. "Unless you want to make quick friends with Ellaria, you're on your own. Nerwen too promised she'd talk to you about picking bar fights, but my two gold on the subject, free of charge - do it again, and I'll cut you down. You endanger us by doing it, and I'm going to protect my questmates."
  20. OoC: You said you glanced across the courtyard, just making sure we were on the same page. I figured it was a mistake, just wanted to make sure. Round Three Kitchen Finale >Docken v. Hybros searches through the drawer, but finds, as always, only bracelets and other jewelry. "Suppose I give you an answer you don't like," he says, glancing at the flame. "What then?"
  21. Alright, a few "questions for the interim" for the QMs and players, just to get those brains chugging: 1) QM's, a fun challenge to get you to think about your own work - rank your quests in order of which are your favorites, and then put little notes next to each as far as to WHY it ranks where it ranks. Hopefully you will notice a trend of what YOU like to put into YOUR quests. 2) Players and QMs, what are some of your favorite specials (passive or otherwise) that have appeared in the game? Which were fun challenges? 3) Players and QMs, which are some storylines/places/characters you'd like to see introduced/more fleshed out? 4) An idea for the future: QMs, what if we did a QM swap? Laid the basis for a quest, and then passed it off to another QM to flesh out/run. That QM would trade an idea off to you! Could be pretty interesting. It could also breath some life into some stories that are getting stale, told only by one person. It would be like Sandy's stories - we know more about the Guild, for example, because other people have picked up the threads. We cameo each other's stories, but what if we tried to let each other tell large portions of the story?
  22. OoC: Scuba (this has no effect, but I feel I have to explain) - the courtyard and Dining Hall aren't the same thing. I should have thrown together a map of the house for you guys. Courtyard is a hallway away from the Dining Hall. Branching off from the Dining Hall is the kitchen, and in the hallway between the Courtyard and Dining Hall are the doors leading to a) Daneeka's study and b) the upstairs guest rooms. Again, no effect on the story or plans or anything, but, you know. "I always steal on the third strike. After you've lowered your defenses," she says with a cunning smile. "I have practice." Round Three Kitchen Finale >Docken v. Clippard - Critical Hit/Special Damage ([([10*2]+31)*2]-10=92) >Docken v. Clippard - Damage/Hit (41*2-10=72) Shrooms v. Docken - (0 Damage) (31/2=16 Damage All Shrooms) Docken buries a few more arrows in the chef. His beautiful white clothing is now stained horribly red. Enemies "I have nothing to say to you, Ranger. Hybros steps into the second room on the left. He discovers a room with a double bed, a more conventional dresser, two night stands, and a desk. On one of the nightstands is a small glass goblet. Hybros remembers it from his last search, but paid it no heed. Now Everstien goes and picks it up. "The Marshes. Exactly who I wanted to investigate. Something does not add up for me. We know that there is only one back-up plan for the attack on Guffington. Lady Marsh is supposedly a Blue Assassin... but she doesn't seem it. She can hardly fight, as we saw when we attacked her. And then there's Watters. Why is he on a list with the poisoner and Lord Marsh?" Everstien licks the inside of the glass and his eyes glaze over slightly. "This liquid is strange still." He coughs and turns away, as if to hide it. "Do your work, imp." "Someone has put effort into my death?" he asks angrily, and from the folds of his uniform draws a dagger. "You're my assassin, then? I thought I was selected too easily. Is the U'Kin in on it too? Always plans within plans within plans with this sort of people."
  23. Collaborative in that there are two hosts, or in the sense of Dastan? I think there are tons of fun ways to breath life into quests we haven't done yet. I think the QM Lounge should get a bit more attention, I actually have a post of questions to encourage QM talking that I keep meaning to write up. Maybe now is the time.
  24. It can't be posted until after Guffington is over, so we've got a bit of time. Do you want a full plot, or just a sketch? I guess BD's probably won't be done in time, so I can send you the whole thing soon.
