The party goers murmur among themselves. Reactions to the revelation seem... mixed. Finally one figure pushes forward from the crowd. "Are we to believe you, heroes? Pah! How can we know that any of this is true. For all we know, you were hired by someone to kill Marsh and the others, and offer this to us as a loose excuse! Don't think the Hinckwells have forgotten what happens when you become involved! The murder of Brobric Elves, the riots in Brendenton!" "What they say is true, Hinckwell," Lady Felix says loosely, watching carefully where each hero puts the money she was stiffed. "Trust a Hinckwell to suspect dishonesty. Takes one to know one," says Shawe with a dismissive shrug. "Why, you...!" "The heroes and I have uncovered quite a few interesting conspiracies, its true." "And who are you to tell us... hmmmmm, Doctor? What have you uncovered, hmmmmm?" Things look likely to come to head when a commanding voice rings out. "Do not disrespect these heroes," says Guffington. His guests grow quiet. "When people gather, they always bring their shadows." He lets the strange statement hang in the air brief. "Lord Marsh was mortal, much like many of you. Is it truly hard to believe that he had other motives upon attending my party. Don't we all? It is a fact we live with. Friendships are built on necessity - sometimes they flourish into more, sometimes they wither and die in the face of something else. Marsh fell for gold, but could we not also fall for knowledge, for hatred, for love. Each mortal has their hierarchy of needs." Guffington looks down at Marsh's body. "And when they die, their needs, wants, desires, their hopes and dreams and fears, they end. They leave only their shadows." Guffington punctuates his speech with a shrug. "The evening is over. Leave as you like. Heroes - hear this. I will have no more killing this evening." The party goers grumble briefly under their breath. Madame Ladybug brushes by the heroes first, bowing respectfully to Guts and then stepping out the front door. A irritated Henry Hinckwell follows. Lord Shawe and Lord Chauncey both step back into the Dining Hall, each eyeing the heroes thoughtfully. "Zora, be so kind as to go release the Red Assassin. She is to leave without being harmed. Elba, go collect U'Or. I owe both you and him an explanation and apology. Daneeka, assist Hybros with reviving the poor woman. We need to have a few words with her... and tell her what has happened." Guffington leads the heroes into the Dining Hall. He and Everstien watch them. Lady Felix unlocks the door to the kitchen and bravely steps in, murmuring a word or two. "I believe we should exchange tales now, heroes. What do you think of the evening?"

I'm asking it as an honest question. Assuming you value it as much as pretty much everyone else I know, I'd assume you value it above most everything else. But suppose, just for a second, that my compatriots and I had you at our mercy. Let's say I was holding Scupperer to your neck, and I asked you what value your life had to me. Maybe its because I've quested beside/hosted Atramor so many times during his witchhood, but I agree 100% with CMP. Sometimes you just have to deal with the consequences of your actions. Its your quest, and you, Kint and K-Nut are the ones who are supposed to extract fun from it, so if you find this more fun than I can't really fault you, but if I was in the quest/hosting the quest, I would be calling bull.

I agree. Sometimes, QMs mess up, and the questies get to take advantage of it. My rat battle was a huge mistake with a necromancer and witch, and they wiped the floor with it... but that's just what happened.

OoC: Apologies, but the results are essentially the same - you don't lose the 2 health, and Lady Marsh isn't further buffed, but with rolls of 5 and 6, you didn't put her to sleep ether.

I never change my enemies for my party - I am of the opinion that it does indeed negate some of the work the heroes have done. That being said, I understand the other philosophy. It's just not my personal taste.

Hey there, that's part of making an enemy with a special like that! He should absolutely get nuked down to one if she mirrors that, its only fair! You can't nerf a class' skill just because it messes with your game.

I'm with Guts. It's a game. We all come in knowing that. What would mafia be without conflict. I understand when attacks become personal, but its rare, and I don't think its happening here to the best of my knowledge. I fight hardest (here and in reality) with the people I know best, because I can and should. What greater sign of friendship than the lack of fear that comes with normal fights? Friends know that they can fight, and still be friends.
